Okay so. Hi! I'm back! I haven't written for a while so please bear with me while I shake off the rust. I must adress a few things first. For this fic firstly you'll notice shadow is a woman. Secondly it's in the third person. Though there will be some first person bits and the "POV" will jump around occasionally. And finally, this shadow isn't dumb. At first they will, just like in Canon, believe the cult is a joke and his girls are just playing along. But she will figure it out. Give the girl some time tho.
A yawning void stretched out in front of me. A void of shadows so thick it was suffocating. Yet, I didn't so much as blink. Why would I have? When the void stares into your eyes, what other choice does a girl have but to stare back?
She awoke with a start, her body jolting slightly as she did. Shaking her head she stood and looked around for a second, a bit of a headache on the forefront of her mind. Bringing her hand up to her head she sighed. "I shouldn't have stayed out that late. Hunting bandits might make me money but… God it can be exhausting."
She sighed again and stood, her nightgown fluttering slightly as she did so. Blearily her black eyes looked around her room as she stretched. That's when she noticed one of the maids was in her room. "Hello Miss Kagenou. Ready to get dressed for the morning?" The maid asked softly.
She only sighed. "You can call me May when no one is around." She says dismissively. She understands the need for formality when in the presence of others but when alone she prefers not to be treated specially. It does help her blend into the background more. Or so she thought. In her previous life she wanted nothing more than to live everyday life in the background.
All so that she could become a powerful force that lurked in the background of society. I'm the shadows of you will. As the eminence in shadow. "No one has entered the spare materials shed since last night, correct?" She asked the maid as she strolled across the room and opened her closet. Intent on choosing her outfit for the day.
"No ma'am. As per your request it hasn't been entered." Came the swift reply. Seemingly satisfied that the young master was even speaking. It was a definite step up from the normal cold exterior. But the maid could tell from one look into her master's eyes that the sadness that was normally there was stronger. But she knew better than to ask.
"Good." Was the only reply given. She stepped into the closet and allowed the black slime she used for everything to form her clothing today. Out of sight of the maid she worked her magic and the slime took shape around her. The final outfit was a pair of black slacks, with an elegant yet still somehow very simple white long sleeves blouse. Resting on top of the blouse was a rather formal suit jacket, also in black. She then left the closet and looked at the maid again. "My sword?"
She extended her hand outward and retrieved the weapon that was being handed to her. A simple steel training blade. After fastening it too her waist she looked over herself once more in the mirror. Her long black hair came down to her mid back and her black eyes stared back into each other and that familiar feeling from the dream came back with a violent force. But unlike most it caused her eyes to soften. After all, why would you be afraid of your own home?
"Clair. I don't understand why we have to do this." May sighed out as she faced her sister. Her black eyes focusing on Claire's blade, her own drawn and held in front of her defensively.
"It's because at your current level, when you reach the academy in a couple years you won't be able to defend yourself." Clair replies. "now en garde!" A cloud of dust explodes into existence as she rushes forward.
May sighs internally as she holds her blade up to meet her sister. Right before their blades connect time slows and May moves. Her body moving so fast it seems as if time has stopped around her. She swings her own sword seven times, none connecting but all of them lethal in their own right. Then May moves back to her original position and allows herself to be blown into the river, skipping off of the surface once or twice before falling in.
"This is pointless." May thought to herself as she got out of the water. She could dry herself off in an instant but doing so in this moment would be obvious so she allowed the water to stay. It didn't really bother her too much anyways. That's when a maid showed up and pulled her sister away. She didn't quite hear the conversation
"Good. I can go check on that meat bag." May thought to herself as she dismissed her own maid and went to the shed she had placed the thing in. "Ah good. You're still here." She said to the possessed flesh bag in front of her. This possession was essentially mana overload. And since it seemed highly durable she's been testing her magic on it. And it doesn't seem to feel anything. So she decided that today she would try and control its mana and see what that does.
A purple flame spluttered into existence in her hand, the dark glow it produced seeming almost ethereal in nature. May crushes it in her hand, guiding the energy forward in small amounts, working the threadlike man's she had just made as if creating channels for excess mana in the creature to travel through. After a moment it seemed as if a whole new man's network was created and a bright light began to emanate from the creature.
After the light reached what seemed to be a peak of brightness May yanked her hand back, removing the network along with all the mana it was channeling, forcing it into herself and absorbing it.
At first nothing seemed to happen. But just as May was about to give up and leave the excess flesh began to melt away, disappearing in motes of purple light as the figure of a blond haired elf began to take its place.
May smiled internally and after the light show ended her internal smile reached the outside slightly. Or at least, she thought it did. In truth, her visage barely seemed to change. Maybe a slight upward turn in her lips. "Ah. Good. You're freed from the possession." She said as the elf looked up at her.
"W-who are you? And where am I?" The elf asked, her mind struggling to remember what happened to her. "the last thing I remember, my home was under attack. Now I'm here." She looked up into the black eyes of the woman before her and her heart skipped a beat. "She's beautiful."
"You are in a storage shed." The figure in front of her said as she jumped onto a box in the corner of the room. Taking a seat and staring. "You were possessed, nothing more than a monster with no free will or rational thought. But I brought you back from the brink." "Maybe I can use this. To be a true Eminence in Shadow, I need an organization of some sort. I could train this elf. But she would need a cause to fight for." May looked around the room, and noticed a box of books behind her.
The elf was also looking around. But only to take in her surroundings. When she refocused on the girl she saw a red colored book in the girl's hand.
"Are you aware of the three heroes' story?" May asked her. The book of said story held up before her. Her eyes took on a red glow, replacing the black color they had once been. "This story and everything in it is true. After the world realized this a group called the cult of Diablos formed. And controlled that information, allowing no one else to know."
She looked back to the elf and noticed she had her eyes opened wide in a sort of mystified wonder. "Why are you telling me this, My Lady?" She asked. Having ready decided she was in a place of subservience to the woman who just saved her.
"Because, I'm forming an organization of my own. To fight back against this group. An organization that will live in the shadows. To hunt down and destroy the shadows. And I'd like to offer you a place. But, be warned. Joining me in this endeavor will mean you will never be able to walk freely in the light again. You will, for all intents and purposes, disappear to the everyday man. While you may still operate in the light it will never be your true self." May paused for dramatic effect. "But even still. I'd like for you to join me. By day I am a noble named May Kagenou, by night I am my true self." She injected her magic into the slime that made up her clothes, allowing it to a high collared black suit coming into existence, a good covering her head as buckles and came into existence.
With her ensemble completed she took another look at alpha, allowing excess slime to flow off of her. Using magic she swirled it around the girl. "Will you join me in hunting down this cult?" She asked. "My true self, known as Shadow, will train you and grant you the power to fight. The power to repair this world, you were possessed because you, yourself possess the blood of the hero. Meaning they will come looking for you. Either way I shall grant you some power. The only question is, will I be granting you the power to defend yourself, or the power to defend the world."
"Good. That should do for giving her a cause. Now let's see how she reacts to all of this. I personally wouldn't believe it because I made it up. But who knows. She might." May thought to herself. But when she looked back over her shoulder to where the elf was she saw the girl kneeling.
"Lady Shadow, please allow me to join you in this endeavor. I would like to join you." The elf's voice didn't waver or falter for a moment, and she seemed resolute in her actions. "Someone must help you, so let it be me." Her bowed head rose, and she looked into her new master's eyes, nothing but resolve could be seen in the blue eyes of the girl.
"Then, Your new name shall be Alpha. And the organization we will build shall be called Shadow Garden. I will train you in both magic and swordsmanship. And after I deem you ready I shall send you in search of other possessed. We will need more people if we are to stop the cult. And others with the hero's blood do exist in this world."
"Agreed." The elf says as she stands. Some of the excess slime that was swirling around her covers the nude elf and May forms it into a maids outfit. "We shall purge the world of the filth known as the cult."
So yeah. This is a thing. Any reviews would really help me. Both constructive and non.
