Elena was busy getting ready for her date tonight. A blind date that Caroline had set her up with some guy named Diego, who happens to be working with Klaus Mikelson, Caroline's husband. A date that Elena never really wanted to go on. She honestly can't believe that she actually let Caroline talk her into it. Elena still can't believe that she's actually going tonight.
All week Elena has been dreading this moment. It's not that Elena wants to date again or is interested in dating again. It's just that Elena recently filed for divorce and doesn't think she's ready to date again. It's been ten years since she last went on a date. Mainly because Tyler hardly ever had time to take her out.
As Elena was finishing getting ready, her cell phone started ringing. Setting her brush down, Elena sighed softly as she reached over to pick up her phone. When she noticed it was Bonnie, Elena answered right away.
"Hey, Bon, what's up?"
"Hey, I just wanted to wish you luck on your date tonight."
"Thanks, because I'm definitely going to need it." Elena said with a sigh as she leaned back against her chair. "Honestly, Bonnie, I don't know why I'm even going. I don't know this Diego, and I've never met him either."
" Because you promised Caroline that you would go on this date. Besides, what Caroline told me about Diego makes him seem like a nice guy." Bonnie said as she shrugged her shoulders slightly.
" That sounds kinda dangerous." Elena has seen too many movies and crime shows to know if a guy seems like a nice guy ends up being a killer or even worse.
Bonnie snorts a laugh. "Hey, you know what I mean. Besides, how bad can it be? All you're doing is going to dinner with him—that's all. I mean, it's not like you're going to sleep with him or anything. I mean, you're not planning on sleeping with him, are you?"
" You know me better than that, Bonnie. I never sleep with a man after the first date." Elena said with a laugh as she then heard a knock coming from her front door. Looking over at the clock on her nightstand, Elena blew out a breath when she saw her date was on time. "Hey, Bonnie, I gotta go. My date is here."
" Call me back as soon as you get home so I can get all the details of the date." Bonnie said with a chuckle before hanging up and letting Elena go.
Getting up Elena checked herself in the mirror once more to make sure she wasn't missing anything." Well Elena, it's now or never." She said to herself as she took a deep breath and walked out of her room.
All through dinner Elena was trying to listen to Diego when he was telling her all about his job and what he does. But Elena was only half listening as she was bored out of her mind. Diego is cute, she'll give him that. But he's boring and after sitting here with him, Elena already wants to leave.
After Diego got done with his story, he reached for his glass and took a drink of his bourbon. He then clears his throat setting his glass down." So, Caroline tells me that you own a bookstore. That's very impressive." He said with a grin on his face.
Elena nods her head as she sets her glass down after taking a sip of her wine. "Caroline speaks the truth. I've been owning my own bookstore for a few years now."
What made you want to open a bookstore?
Elena shrugs her shoulders. "I always wanted to open my own bookstore. Ever since I started reading at the age of five. Besides, it was either that or end up working at my ex-husband's company, and that was never going to happen since I hate working behind a desk. Not to mention, I don't really get along with his employees."
" How long ago did you file for divorce?"
" Not long ago, actually. I'm just waiting for him to sign them."
Diego nodded his head in understanding. "So, tell me something, Elena. Do I get another date after tonight?" He asked as he reached over and grabbed her hand, gently rubbing his thumb across her knuckles with a smirk.
Elena was totally caught off guard by his question. She hadn't really thought about a second date. It had never really crossed her mind. "Oh, um. I don't know. I might have to think about it," Elena said as she shrugged her shoulders.
The next morning, Elena was suddenly awakened by a knock at her front door. She reached over and grabbed her cell to check the time. When she heard the knock again, Elena sighed softly and finally decided to get out of bed. "I'm coming," she called out to whoever was outside her door.
Pulling the door open, Elena gasps in surprise. "Damon, how did you know where I live?" She asked, as she wasn't expecting to see Damon at her house. Especially not this early in the morning.
"Would you believe me if I said that I was just in the neighborhood?" Damon asked with a chuckle. "I stopped by the bookstore earlier, and your lovely assistant, April Young, gave me your address." He said as he smirked a little.
Elena snorted. "April is just my employee and friend. So, what's in the bag?" She asked as she leaned towards the bag in his hand and tried to peek inside.
Damon chuckled softly as he handed the bag out to her. "Just a fresh baked muffin just came out of the oven and, of course, fresh coffee." He said with a smile. "Mind if I come in?"
Elena took the bag and the coffee out of Damon's hand as she shrugged her shoulders. "Well, that depends on why you're here. Is this a business visit or a social one?" She asked as she took the first sip of her coffee.
" Just a social visit," Damon answered softly with a small smile.
Elena thinks about it for a moment as she then slowly nods her head when a smile appears across her face. "Since you did bring me breakfast and coffee, and since this is just a social visit, yeah, I guess you can come in."
" Yeah?" Damon asked softly. "I mean, I don't want you to feel uncomfortable or anything."
Elena shook her head as she stepped back into her apartment and to the side. "You're fine, Damon. Come in," she said with a smile as she invited him in.
Nodding his head and smirking slightly, Damon stepped into Elena's apartment as she closed the door behind them. "You have a lovely home, Elena," Damon complimented as he looked around the living room while taking off his jacket before following her into the kitchen.
"Thanks, I seem to like it so far," Elena said with a chuckle. "Can I get you something to drink?"
"Got any bourbon?" Damon asked as he sat down at her kitchen table.
Elena nods her head as she walks towards the cupboards. "Yeah, I think so." She said as she grabbed a glass and walked towards where she kept her liquor. After pouring him a glass, she walked back towards the table. "Here you go."
"Thanks," Damon said as he took the glass out of her hand and took a sip of the bourbon before setting the glass down on the kitchen table. He then looked up when he noticed Elena staring at him. "What?"
"Are you sure that this is just a social visit?" Elena asked, unable to shake the feeling that Damon had come over for a reason, and that reason had something to do with her divorce.
"Of course, I am sure that this is just a social visit. Why are you asking?"
"Because you're my lawyer, Damon, and I've never met a lawyer who visits their clients for a social visit." So, what's going on, Damon? Did Tyler finally sign the papers?" Elena asked as she sat down across from him.
After Damon took another drink of his bourbon, he set his glass down and shook his head. "No, he hasn't. I haven't received them since the last time I met your ex-husband, and that was over a week ago."
Elena sighs deeply as she picks up her cup of coffee and takes another drink. "I will talk to him and get him to sign them. Can I ask you something?" She asked as she set her cup down.
"Of course you can. You can ask me anything you want," Damon answered, smirking slightly.
"Last week, when you showed up at my bookstore, Tyler asked who you were. You told him that you were a friend of mine. So, did you mean it? Are you my friend, Damon?" Elena asked, unable to help but wonder if what he said was true.
Damon nods his head. "I meant it, and I would like to think of us as friends. I mean, if that's alright with you?" He asked with a grin.
Elena smiles softly and nods her head. "Yeah, it's alright with me." Elena doesn't mind being friends with Damon. A small part of her is kind of hoping that they could become more than just friends. But, of course, that's up to Damon.
