Chapter 4

Bella

I have not been getting the best of sleep lately. I keep having these nightmares and my sleep is not restful. Some mornings I am so sore from tossing and turning every morning. The weather doesn't help as the fog and rain makes me even more sleepy. I park my car outside the coffee shop in order to get a morning pick me up. Itll definitely be needed.

As I make my way to the door, I see the Cullen clan walking in this direction, on the opposite sidewalk. They don't seem to have jackets on despite the chill and precipitation in the air. I turn away from them and hear a screech. I turn back and see a car carreening towards me after running a red light and swerving to avoid an oncoming car.

I feel myself pulled to the side by a heavy force. I look up to see the messy haired Cullen hovering over me. We had moved down the sidewalk and I am laying in his arms. There is a coldness radiating from him. His arms feel like stone. He is staring at me, almost surprised to see me under him. I look back to where the car is, which has now hit a lightpole. The lightpole I was standing right next to, but am now yards from. How did we get here? How did he get to me when he was across the street?

People start rushing over, now noticing me on the ground. He gets up quickly and leaves with his family. No one else seems to notice. Someone calls an ambulance. Charlie is going to be so upset.

I arrive at the hospital and the staff begins to check me out. The door opens and a very young, beautiful doctor steps out. He has similar eyes to the rest of the Cullens with blonde hair. Charlie arrives and is fussing over me.

"Hello Bella, I'm doctor Cullen. I heard you had quite a spill".

"Yeah I dont even know what happened. All of a sudden the car was coming at me"

"It must have been scary". He is checking my pupils and my head. "Well everything seems to be in order but make sure you take it easy".

"I will. I would have been worse off if not for one of your sons. He is tall and has light brown hair". I am trying to get him to tell me the mans name.

Charlie asks Dr. Cullen, "one of your boys?"

Dr. Cullen smiles and says "oh that must be Edward. He must have been close to you to help"

"Honestly, he was across the street. I dont even know how he got to me".

Dr. Cullen does not respond but instead discharges me to Charlie's care. Charlie lets me know to call mom while he goes to get the car, as mine is still at the coffee shop. I am about to call when I hear voices coming from the hallway. It sounds like Dr. Cullen, an angry woman, and another man. I peak around the corner and its Edward with him. Dr. Cullen calls the woman Rose. He notices me and I ask if I can speak to Edward. Edward comes over and seems almost mad I want to talk to him.

"What", he snaps

"How did you get to me? How did we get so far away from the car?"

"Bella I dont know what you're talking about. I was right next to you. I moved you away from the car"

"you were no where near me. You were across the street"

"Bella you hit your head"

"I know what happened"

"You arent going to let this go, are you?"

"No"

"well enjoy being disappointed"

He walks away and I am left dumbfounded. I end up just going to bed when I go home.

Chapter 5

Edward

I know its wrong but I find myself visiting her at night. She's sleeping, but fitfully. I wonder if she will know I am trying to read her thoughts when she sleeps. I find her mind is more open like this but I still only get small bursts. I see glimpses of an older woman and another man standing in the sun. I think that this must be her mother but I dont know the man. I see small glipses of the woods, her hiking. It must be a pasttime she enjoys. And then I see things that only belong in dreamlands, monsters and legends. This is when she seems most uncomfortable. I see flashes of a man, standing over her. Then she is running, fog rising. She is searching for something. And then to my surprise, I see myself. She runs to me, seeking comfort.

She wakes suddenly and looks over to where I am. She seems confused and rubs her eyes. I am out the window before she can look back again.

Chapter 6

Bella

That was the first night I dreamt of Edward. Why did he show up in my dream? Why did I look to him for comfort? Is it because he saved me from the car? I dont know how to feel about him. There is something off but I cannot name it. He seems different, something more than human. And why do I feel so drawn to him? Almost like an invisible string being pulled taunt between us. I know I will not be able to go to sleep. My dream shakes me but seeing him in it shakes me more. I decide to watch some TV until I need to get ready for work.

I am exhausted when I get to the bookstore. The day goes by slowly, even more slowly when I realize he will not be coming in. The other Cullens come by, but he doesn't. I find the pixie-haired girl sneaking glances at me but I'm too tired to question it.

He continues to not come in for the week and I cannot help but feel sad that I don't see him. It makes no sense to me. Why should I care? He has only been rude to me. I just can't shake him from my thoughts. I decide that the next time I see him, I will get more answers from him.
