I heard from my dad who heard from Mai's dad that your dad will be returning home in two days. When are you going to tell him about you know what, again?
Ty Lee asked curiously as she browsed through a rack of jeans.
Azula exhaled deeply.
"I don't know."
"I say just get it over and done with when he gets back this weekend. His reaction will always be the same. It's best that he hears it from you than anyone one else, especially his business partners. With all the rumors around school, I wouldn't be surprised if he heard anything about it by now."
She wouldn't be surprised if her father already got wind of some of those rumors either. Azula's eyebrows scrunch slightly in frustration. She did gain some weight, especially in her midsection. Not to mention that she actively avoided culinary class for a couple of weeks due to morning sickness, which wasn't always like its namesake.
Other students aren't as stupid as she once thought. Even they have noticed, and rumors are flying around as fast as the wind could take them.
"Li-Jin, you know ambassador Chin's daughter, asked me about you this morning at school. She wanted to know if you were pregnant or just letting yourself go."
Azula's eyes widened only slightly at the audacity.
"What?! And what did you tell her?
Ty-Lee rolled her eyes and smirked lightly.
"Of course, I told her that it was complete nonsense that she was spewing and in return asked her if it was true that her boyfriend got an STD from that slut, Yu-Na, and gave it to her. You should have seen the look on her face before she practically ran away.
Azula smirked back at Ty-Lee. She found herself very grateful to have the support of at least one of her friends. Mai is still coming to terms with Azula being pregnant and all. She always was a bit of a prude and needed extra time to adjust to changes around her. Azula wondered what would become of their friendship when she finds out that her brother is in love with someone else.
"So, I'm still waiting on you to tell me who the father of my future niece or nephew is. Is he ugly? Is that why you are so hesitant to tell me? It's okay if he is. Oh! Did you ever tell him about the baby? How did he react?"
"Ty-Lee?"
"Yes, Azula?"
"Shut up."
"Okay, but I need some answers ASAP!"
Azula sighed and looked around. She still didn't trust her surrounding and pulled Ty-Lee closer to her so she could whisper in her ear.
"It's Aang."
Ty-Lee gasped and pushed her self away from Azula in surprise.
"As in Aang Tenzin?"
"That's the one," Azula said nonchalantly.
"No..freaking..way!" She punched Azula light in her right arm.
"Way! It was supposed to be a one night stand next thing I know, it just becomes a fling that lasted a couple of weeks."
"Wait, wait, wait! Azula, isn't he dating that girl though? You know the water tribe girl who needs a stick knocked out of her ass."
Azula rolled her eyes.
"In the beginning they were on a break, I guess they got back together around the time I decided to end the whole thing."
"Wow! You really liked him didn't you? I mean enough to keep going back to him for weeks, he must have been great in bed too. Who knew?"
A light pink blush formed on her cheeks as she pretended to examine a plum blouse that looked way to small in size for her.
"Our relationship isn't a big deal. He was amazing in bed and he is a really sweet guy, but in the end his heart beat for her. Who am I to try to get in the way of something like that?"
"The mother of his unborn child, that's who. So, you definitely have an advantage over this girl. Besides, I think he has a thing for you too. He's always looking at you in the halls or in the classroom when he thinks no one is looking. Now that I think of it, I should have known something was going on between the two of you. The googly eyes, the flushed looks, the secret smirks. Gosh, it was so glaringly obvious but the rest of us just didn't think you two would even remotely be interested in each other. Now look at you two, getting ready to make me an aunty!"
Azula's flushed a deep red and sputtered.
"Ty-Lee! Please stop it! this is why I don't like to tell you anything, you read too much into things.
"Oh, please! You are totally in love with him aren't ya?
"Love?! Oh, no, no, no. I am not in love with Aang of all people. There is nothing romantic going on between the two of us. Just two ex- friends with benefits and now soon to be parents, maybe, if I decide to keep the kid."
"Uh-huh, I will go along with whatever you say for now. Just know I call dibs on being your maid-of-honor- for your wedding. Ooo, how about that top over there it's so cute!" Ty-Lee with a quickness moved away from the pregnant girl to another aisle leaving Azula sputtering in disbelief behind her.
The dinner table was void of all noise other than the occasional light clinking of utensils hitting the dinner plates. It was usual when their father was home from his frequent business trips. They'd sit to eat dinner together before her father would ask about their grades, college applications, any extra curricular activities.
"So," Ozai paused as he took a sip of his red wine, "How is school going Zuko?"
Azula's gold eyes met her brothers in trepidation. The message is clear between them. 'He knows.'
Her heart was pounding in her ears. Their father never asked Zuko about his grades first. As a matter of fact, he barely bothered with Zuko at all.
Zuko clears his throat and looks to his father who sits at the head of the table watching them. Waiting
"School is going well father. All A's and one B that is sure to become an A by the end of the semester."
"It better be," Ozai glared over his wine glass at Zuko before transferring his gaze to Azula.
"And you, Azula? What can I expect of your grades by the end of the semester?" Ozai questioned his gaze accusatory as he pinned her to her seat.
Azula sat up straight and answered.
"I currently have A's in all my classes…except culinary, my grades slipped a little."
"Mm, and why is that?" Ozai questioned as he took a generous sip of his wine.
Azula took a deep breath and steeled herself for his reaction. She ignored Zuko's subtle shaking of his head.
There was no better time than now to tell her father and so she did.
"I'm...pregnant."
Ozai slowly finished off his wine before carefully placing the glass back onto the dining table.
"Mm," he sounded with a short laugh.
There was nothing funny.
Azula and Zuko watched their father closely waiting for the ball to drop. There was no reaction at first then suddenly there was a commotion.
It happened so fast.
The wine thrown at her head forced her to knock her chair back to duck under the protection of the table. The table rocked violently above her, and she could see and hear the dishes crashing and liquid dripping rapidly down to the floor around her. She tried to avoid the broken glass and ceramic as she crawled away, but her hand slipped on some of the spilled water, a few pieces cut her and embedded into her right hand. She yelped and glanced down at her hand by the time she looked up she could see Zuko trying to subdue his father.
" You whore! You dare think I am a fool? I know about everything you have been up to. You think sleeping and it getting knocked up by some lower-class Buddist orphan was wise? You will not embarrass me as you already have. That baby will be rid of by my own hands," Ozai lunged forward, punching Zuko in his face. Zuko faltered momentarily before hastening himself to get in between his father and Azula. He punched his father and tackled him down to the ground.
"Azula get out of here now!" Zuko yelled, struggling to keep his father down.
"But Zuko!"
"Go!" Zuko roared at her.
Azula hesitated before scrambling to get up and run out of the room.
"That's right! Run as far as you can you little slut, because when I catch you, I will beat the child out of you! You dare to embarrass me like this?!" Ozai roared.
Fear gripped her as she grabbed everything that was hers at the front door and ran out of the house. She kept running until she was off her father's property.
She ran until she made it to the bus stop and jumped onto the next bus. She could have gone to Ty-Lee or Mai, but she their fathers worked for hers and she didn't want him to find her so easily. So, she took the bus to where she knew she would be okay, even for a little while.
Aang was finishing up a couple of assignments he was behind on, when heard the doorbell ring.
He ignored it at first but then it became incessant, and he went down stairs to give whoever was being so annoying a piece of his mind.
When he opened the door, he did not expect to find a severely disheveled Azula. Her hair was unkempt, there were so many dried tear tracks tracing her cheeks, her lips and body trembling, and her right hand that she held close to her chest was bleeding.
"I told my father about the baby," Was all she said before her face contorted and she began to cry.
Aang gently held behind her head and guided her in for a hug. He breathed deeply into her hair.
He released her a moment later and guided her up to his room where he treated her hand and helped clean her up and get her changed into some clothes of his that were a bit baggy on her. He then gave her some water and a pain killer to help with her injured hand before laying her down under his duvet.
Azula wanted to tell Aang everything, but she would cry too hard every time she tried.
The only thing she managed to tell him was that Zuko was still back at the house with her father who had gone berserk at the news.
Aang took it from there and tried to contact Zuko, but the phone kept going straight to voicemail.
He made a few phone calls to others who might be able to check in on Zuko.
He finally got in touch with Sokka, who got in touch with Katara, who apparently Zuko contacted. Aang didn't want to think too much on that.
Zuko was hurt, but he would be okay. He would see Azula tomorrow to talk.
Azula sniffled again. It was such a long and hard day. When she lay her head on Aangs pillow, exhaustion forced her eyes shut. She dreamed her father catching her and she dreamed her baby died.
