Not exactly the most original idea ever, but I wanted to try my hand at this time-travel premise. Note that I will not be using the dialogue from scenes exactly because I can't be asked to copy them, but the end result will be the same so it shouldn't matter.

"Alright everyone, Kakashi's fallen ill today, so it'll just be you two with me." Minato announced to his team who had inquired about Kakashi's whereabouts. It was unlike him to ever miss a team training session.

"Must be pretty serious for him to not come anyway." Noted Rin, eyebrows furrowed in worry. "What does he have?"

"A form of bacteria, from what I understand. He came down with quite a fever, so it put him out of commission." Minato clapped his hands as if it was an announcement to switch topics. "Now, I figured since one on one training is very effective, I asked for some extra help."

"Help?" Obito questioned. "Who could be a better teacher than you, sensei?"

Minato smiled. "I'm glad you asked. Kushina!" He called out to the tree above his head, and out came the woman in question.

The red-haired woman jumped down, all smiles. "Hey brats! Hope you're ready for some serious training! From what I've heard, Minato takes it too easy with you."

"Aww, not her!" Obito joked, which prompted Kushina to glare daggers at the boy. "J-just kidding!"

Rin, however, was more serious. "Lady Kushina, it's an honor to be trained by one of the strongest female ninja in the village!" She bowed to her.

Kushina cooed at the girl, kneeling down to her level and giving her a big hug. "You're just so cute, Rin! Oh, I wish Kakashi was here so you could see me put him in the dirt for you."

Rin blushed at the affection, but felt warm inside, and very worried for Kakashi's well-being.

"So, who's getting who?" Questioned Obito.

Minato cleared his throat before speaking. "We'll be alternating as the hours go by, Kushina will be helping with hand to hand sparring, and I'll be working on ninjutsu with you. For now, Rin can go with Kushina and you can stick with me. I'll announce when we switch, got it?"

Both children nodded, "Got it!"

After some hours had passed, Obito had finally been allowed to work with Kushina. The woman pulled Obito to her, whispering to him away from Minato's view.

"Obito, wanna prank that dopey sensei of yours?" She asked, already aware of his impending answer.

The boy's eyes almost sparkled for a second. "Are you serious? I've always tried but he never falls for any of them."

Kushina laughed. "Because you think small time, what I've got is something a little different."

"Like what?"

"A seal." It almost felt ominous.

Obito knew next to nothing about seals, and even he felt a bit intimidated with even messing around with one. "What kind of seal?"

"If my work is right, and it normally is, then this seal when activated near Minato should teleport all of us into the river a ways from here."

"Isn't it a problem if we get sent over too? I don't want to get wet."

Kushina shook her head. "Didn't Minato teach you three how to walk on water?" Obito nodded at her. "Then there shouldn't be a problem. I'll tell Rin, and that way we'll all be ready for it, but Minato won't be. Besides, what's the fun in dunking him in some water if we aren't there to see it?"

"That's true, but won't Minato-sensei be fast enough to react in time?"

"Usually that would be true, but if it's me giving it to him, he'll always let his guard down, that softie." She smiled fondly at the memories that flooded her mind. "Even though he knows that I love pranking, he'll always give me the benefit of the doubt."

"Sensei seems like an idiot."

"Ha! Isn't he?" Kushina laughed an evil laugh, and they got to plotting. "Trust me, absolutely nothing can go wrong with this. I'm a seal master, you know!"

In short, many things went wrong. Because when Kushina activated the seal near Minato, they weren't sent to the river. Oh no, the seal simply blinded them all and when it was all said and done, nothing around them had changed.

"Nice try, Kushina." Minato teased, for once gaining the upper hand. "Seems like you're losing your touch."

"Darn it! I knew I shouldn't have written this after being awake for two days straight off a mission." She pouted.

"Anyway, now that that's over, let's finish up training, and then we can all get changed and grab a bite to eat, my treat."

Rin looked a little sad. "I feel bad going out to eat without Kakashi."

Obito was almost offended. "But Rin! He never even comes with us anyway!"

"Now, now, you two, relax. We'll swing by and give Kakashi a visit right after with some food." This placated Rin, who agreed.

Once training concluded, Team Minato and Kushina went over to Ichiraku Ramen, at Kushina's request.

Sitting down on the stools, Kushina boisterously yelled, "Hey! Teuchi! I'm gonna need four bowls of the good stuff!"

Oddly, Teuchi didn't even look her way, as if he hadn't heard her at all.

"Hey, did you hear me?! I don't like being ignored, you know!"

Minato looked confused, "That's odd, it isn't like him to ignore customers, much less a regular."

"Maybe he's had a long day?" Rin offered.

Obito crossed him arms, stealing a glance at Rin to his left. "Must have been one hell of a day, then."

Minato gave a small smile to smooth over the tension. "Well, if Teuchi doesn't feel up to it then we should leave him alone, let's go the barbecue restaurant instead!"

"Hmph, fine." Kushina begrudgingly let it go. "This isn't over!" Doesn't mean she'll let it go though.

Hopping off the stools, they were making their way to the restaurant when Obito abruptly pulled on Minato's sleeve.

"What is it, Obito?"

"Sensei, something's off with the Hokage Monument!" Following his finger, Minato looked over to the monument, and indeed, something was really off.

His face was on it.

"Is that my face?!" He blurted out, at a complete loss for words.

"You don't look half bad up there." Kushina commented. "Don't know why they put it there, though."

"Geez, you'd think the Third Hokage would be a little more subtle for his successor." Obito said. "He hasn't even told sensei yet."

"We need to see the Hokage. This is serious." Minato commanded, catching himself. "I need an explanation for this. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's exciting but for this to happen so suddenly... something's off."

Picking up the speed, all four ran straight to the Hokage's door, ignoring all protocol. Minato was going to knock on the door when he gasped in shock, his hand went right through the door!

"What's wrong, Minato? Got stage fright?" Kushina joked, but even she knew it was unlike Minato to be shocked at anything, and even if he was, he could hide it pretty well.

"My hand... it went right through the door." He told them, inspecting his hand and trying again to get the same results. "This can't be, are we dead?"

"Dead!? I think I would have noticed if I was a ghost." Obito yelled. "Wait, do you think Kushina's seal killed us all?!"

Rin's heart dropped, even if she doubted it. "There's no way, Lady Kushina wouldn't use a seal without reading it over first, right?" She asked, staring up at Kushina with ill-placed hope.

"Um, I'm pretty sure we aren't dead, so it doesn't matter. Trust me, I would know if I died." She told them, holding a hand softly to her stomach.

"Then.. what do we do now?" Rin asked, fearful.

"The plan hasn't changed. We won't know a thing until we at least see the Hokage. Something's wrong with us, but that doesn't mean we can't speak to others."

Obito spoke up then, "Now that I think about it, everyone in the Hokage Tower didn't even glance at us as we rushed in. Wouldn't somebody have said something?"

"Good point, Obito. But let's just take this one step at a time. If we can seemingly go through things at will, then all we have to do is just... walk through the door." Minato was first to step though, and he expected an odd sensation from going through the door but it was as if he hadn't just done so. Nothing changed.

Once they were all piled in, they got a good look at the Third Hokage, who happened to be debriefing an Anbu ninja.

"Are we even supposed to hear this? Anbu intelligence is pretty confidential, Minato."

"Normally, I would agree with you, but we don't exactly have many options right now. Although, it doesn't seem like the Hokage can see us, either."

"Hound, I'm seeing to it that you are removed from the force."

'Hound' said nothing, but the tightening of his fists did not express a happy reaction.

Minato walked around the Anbu, inspecting him. "I can't say I recognize this man." That wasn't anything crazy, but Minato prided himself on a good memory and he can't recall a single one of them having gray hair (he had helped the Hokage allocate what Anbu should go on what missions). The only two people Minato knew with gray hair were Kakashi and his father, but Sakumo was dead and Kakashi was still a boy. So, who was this?

"Your colleagues have expressed worry for your mental state, and as a result, have requested you be given the status of Jonin once again. Effective immediately, you will hand in your mask and collect your things from the Anbu headquarters. Following that, you will be assigned a genin team and you will decide if they are worthy of passing. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes, Lord Hokage." The deep voice muttered. Slowly, he took his mask off, and all four meddlers were shocked at what they saw.

It was Kakashi, but older, with a... scar over his left eye.

"What the hell?!" Obito yelled what everyone was thinking. Before anyone could respond, their vision went wavy before they all passed out.

Waking up, the group found themselves in another place. This time they seemed to be on some random balcony of a building.

"Ugh, that made me nauseous for a second." Obito said, holding him stomach and preparing himself to hurl. Thankfully, he didn't.

"It felt similar to my Flying Thunder God technique. Kushina, did you utilize any of it in your seal?"

The woman held her hands forward, palms facing forward as if to tell him to stop. "Hold on, what makes you think it was my seal that's doing any of this, anyway?"

Team Minato stared at Kushina with a deadpan expression, making her blush in embarrassment.

"Whatever. Yeah, I took some peeks at it but I haven't studied it in-depth."

"Perhaps... and I might be totally off here but... Kushina's seal may be using parts of my Thunder God seal as power for it, since they are constantly powered unless I use them, though I have no clue how it also added in time travel. I tried that for a while and had no luck at all!" Minato pouted, upset he failed. "Usually I can feel my teleport points, but I can sense that two have been drained now."

Rin interjected, "So, in essence, we'll keep teleporting until all your seals are used up?"

Minato smiled and nodded at the girl, proud of her assessment. "Yes, that's right. So, all we have to do is wait until all my seals burn out of chakra, and we should hopefully be back where we started."

"Minato, how many seals do you have, anyway?"

The man put a hand to his chin in a thinking gesture, shutting his eyes for a moment. "Hmm, let me think, I think there are about-"

"Never mind that! Look, someone's coming up here!" Obito pointed out, and indeed, everyone could feel someone's approach.

Kakashi in his normal jonin outfit, hopped onto the railing from the side of the building, and stood against it with his arms crossed. It was like he was waiting for someone.

"I can't believe he still wears that stupid mask!" Yelled Obito, flabbergasted. "Does he ever take the thing off?!"

Minato chuckled, and responded, "Actually, yes, he does."

Rin's neck turned at a speed that couldn't be normal and moved closer to Minato. "Sensei, you've seen Kakashi's face?!"

Minato pushed her back back a foot or so to gain some space. He rubbed his neck sheepishly before telling her, "Well, as you know I did meet Kakashi when he was five years old so he could become my student. On our first C-rank, Kakashi got a bit overzealous in his skills and he was eager to prove himself to me, and unfortunately the enemy punched him pretty hard. Hard enough that I believe he got a concussion and passed out on me, and there seemed to be blood coming through his mask, and I then found out he had lost one of his baby teeth from the attack. So, I've only seen it due to necessity than him showing it to me willingly."

Kushina seemed conflicted on the story. "On one hand, the thought of Kakashi as a little toddler is really cute, but then I remember how much of a brat he is, you know?"

Obito agreed with her, "Tell me about it. He's so protective of his face you'd think he had some hideous scar under there or something. It wouldn't even matter, scars are cool!"

"Can you describe his face, sensei?" Rin asked, looking up at him.

"I could, but it wouldn't help you at this point. Kakashi is much older now, so he would have changed a lot since then."

Rin's face fell. "Yeah, I guess that's true." She was going to continue until they heard footsteps coming up the stairs near them.

"Ha, beat you to it, Sasuke!" A young voice yelled, looking back at someone.

"I wasn't even trying, idiot." Came from another child.

"Yeah, Sasuke wasn't even trying Naruto! He'd beat you in a race easily." This one was clearly from a girl, if the high pitch was anything to go by.

As the three stepped up to Kakashi after climbing the stairs, everyone got a good look at them.

"That's a bit too much orange, even for me." Obito shuddered.

"Pink hair, it's pretty, but is that natural?" Asked Kushina, admiring it. "Reminds me of this one guy I met in the civilian district one time."

Obito stood right in front of the boy with the blue collared shirt, studying his appearance. "This black haired kid is definitely an Uchiha, do you see his eyes? There's no doubt about it, he's even got a stick up his ass, just look at him!"

Minato put a hand to his face. "Obito, you really need to watch your language."

The boy blushed, "Oh, sorry sensei."

"How about you tell us something about yourself first, sensei? So we'll know what to say!" Asked the blonde boy. The other two nodded in agreement.

"Very well. My name is Kakashi Hatake, I have some likes and dislikes, and I have a hobby or two. I don't really have any dreams."

"... you just told us your name! That didn't help at all!" Yelled the blond boy.

Kakashi merely shrugged and pointed towards him, "You'll go first."

"Didn't you do this with us, sensei?"

Minato nodded at Obito, "I did, it's interesting that Kakashi would use it with his own students. I thought he hated all of our team exercises."

"-and I hate waiting for ramen to finish cooking! My dream is to become Hokage so everyone will have to acknowledge me!" Yelled the boy.

Obito was affronted, "Hey, get in line kid! I've got dibs on being the fifth Hokage!"

"Alright, you-" Kakashi pointed to the other boy, and pointed to the girl afterward, "- and then pinkie over there."

"My name is Uchiha Sasuke, I don't like much of anything and I dislike lots of things, and my dream... no, my ambition is to kill a certain man." Sasuke told them.

Kushina sucked her teeth. "Ugh, this kid reminds me of Kakashi."

"To have such a goal to such a young age... I wonder who this man he's referring to could be." Commented Minato.

"Okay, my name is Sakura Haruno. I like-" Sakura looked towards Sasuke while squealing, who was not even looking at her, "I dislike... no, I HATE Naruto!"

"Say what?!" Naruto felt more so devastated by what she said more than he was offended.

"Even Kakashi and Obito get along better than they do." Rin added, shaking her head at the hostility.

"Yeah, why would the Third Hokage put these guys in a team if they so obviously hate each other?" Asked Kushina, turning to Minato in hopes of an answer.

Minato returned her stare, and thought about it. "Well, Lord Third has let me sit in with him on some days. If I had to guess, they were either all that were left without a suitable team composition, or there is a specific reason that they were paired with Kakashi. Assuming Kakashi's specialties haven't changed in the future, he mainly uses ninjutsu and then taijutsu as his second favored ability. I can see Sasuke being the ninjutsu specialist being that the Uchiha all fall into that category alongside Genjutsu proficiency, and Naruto could be the taijutsu focused one. Did anyone of you catch if he was from a clan?"

"I think we talked over his introduction for the most part, sensei."

Obito piped up, "Oh! Maybe he's a Yamanaka, he's got blue eyes and blonde hair after all." He finished with a grin, satisfied of his analysis.

"Good guess, Obito. But no, the Yamanaka's eyes have no pupils, and their hair is more of a pale blond." Corrected Minato. "Regardless, Sakura seems a bit too thin to be set up for taijutsu, at least at this stage in the game, so she must have been put on for a different reason. Not sure what she would excel at without seeing her records."

"Um, sensei?" Rin began.

"Yes, Rin?"

"They're gone."

"Huh?" Indeed, as Minato turned to his side, the team had already left. "Oh, guess I shouldn't have gotten so carried away talking, ha ha..." He trailed off lamely.

All of a sudden, that nauseous feeling washed over them all again, forcing them to their knees.

"Not again! Does this mean we're gonna get moved?!" Obito had his eyes closed to keep his food down.

"This seems to... be the trigger." Kushina responded, who did keep her eyes open.

After some moments had passed, everyone got up and looked around them. They were now in a training field within the village in the morning, if the sun's position in the sky was anything to go by.

"Are we back to our time?"

"No, this is different from the one we were training in... this is the one I gave you two the bell test."

"Don't remind me, I hated being tied to that stupid block of wood."

"Minato, do you feel that?" Kushina eyed him.

"Yeah, that's Kakashi's chakra in that tree over there."

"Maybe he's actually catching up on sleep for once." She joked.

"As much as I would like for that to be true, I doubt it."

After some time, Kakashi's students came to the field and stood around for their sensei to 'show up'.

"Is he not going to meet them?" Obito asked, confused.

"If he was, he would have done it already." Kushina told him. "He's probably just observing them to see how they act when he's not around. He's not even trying to hide himself all that hard, but a genin would have zero chance of ever detecting him."

Three hours passed before Kakashi actually revealed himself, which made Obito lose his mind before Rin reminded him that he was always late too.

"Yeah, but not by THAT much!"

"Quiet everyone, let's hear what Kakashi is going to do." Minato ordered, and the two quickly went quiet.

"Alright, you three, your job is to take these two bells away from me by any means necessary, come at me with the intent to kill."

"But sensei, there are only two bells but there's three of us." Commented Sakura, hands behind her back.

"Very observant of you," Kakashi responded sarcastically, "one of you will be sent back to the academy. So, make sure you give it your all."

End of Chapter 1.

A/N: I decided to bold the dialogue of anyone from the future talking to make it easier to understand, but if you would prefer I just keep it all the same, then please say so. I will be going in order, more or less of significant parts of Kakashi's stories with maybe some returns to the past (like him gaining the Sharingan later on). As always, I appreciate any and all criticism thrown my way! I'm not too familiar with how Kushina would act, so I hope I got her right for the most part.
