I decided to get into Adventure Time and holy crap, I was surprised at how good it was. I took to the AT fanfiction to see the various stories, and some are really good. What inspired me to write Without Heroism is a story called Something More by Bazinga007.
I love the idea of an adult Finn that was raised by humans going to Ooo and meets Jake, Bubblegum, Marceline, and the others for the first time, especially when they think all humans are dead, so I wanted to put my own personal spin on it.
Yes, there will be Lemons, but who is going to be the first one that pops Finn's cherry? And will this be a FinnxHarem story? That will be a surprise later on.
This first chapter is just an experiment, so if I get enough reviews, favs, and follows, I'll see it through.
Chapter 1: Terra Finn
Weekends were a godsend to the young man that was known as Finn Mertens. A few days he gets to chill at home, or maybe go to the arcade with his buddies. It was 5:30 in the morning with the sun slowly peeking over the mountain and Finn walked out of his two-story home, dressed in running shoes, black gym shorts, and a blue muscle shirt ready to go on his morning jog.
The cold morning air nipped at the young man's skin, but Finn didn't need a jacket because his body would start to quickly warm up once he started to run.
He appreciated living in a nice and quiet suburban neighborhood with his mom, Minerva, and dad, Martin. He lived here all his life in this nice town in California, but now the wanderlust was starting to eat at his soul and Finn felt it was time to leave the nest and explore the world. He wanted to travel to the military not just to sightsee around the world, but to help people and of course fight.
The Marines was up his alley and he hoped he could become a Combat Medic; he liked the idea of mending the wounded and still being able to beat up his foes. All that MMA training and his dad that kept taking him to the shooting range to improve his gun skills has paid off, when he gets to boot camp, Finn already knew he would pass with flying colors.
Finn's pet dog walked out of the doggy door and yawned.
"Come on Jake, it's Cardio Time!" Finn said with a smile while patting his pet dog. Jake barked and licked his hand. Finn took off in a sprint on the sidewalk while his loyal dog followed him.
As he was running, his smartphone started to ring in his pocket. Finn took out his blue tooth, placed it in his ear, and answered the phone so he could run while talking.
"Good morning, Fio! How are you doing?"
"Morning, Finn, I got good news, and I couldn't wait all day to tell you, dude!"
Finn smirked. It must be REALLY good news if Fionna is calling him this early in the morning.
"Go girl, lay it on me."
It was surreal when Finn first met the blonde woman Fionna while they were playing the Dungeons and Orcs online game. Fionna looked like she could be Finn's long lost twin older sister, but Finn just accepted it as being a rare occurrence. After all, there have been some reports of people running into their doppelgangers that looked like them but had no blood relation to them. There was bound to be a blonde-haired young man out there that definitely had his looks despite not being related to him.
Finn and Fionna became fast friends with their love for videogames, fantasy, and both had a desire to adventure making the two bond quickly. It was too bad they didn't live close enough to hang out; Fionna lived over at New York, but it was ok because they were able to still chat and play online games with each other.
"New game just dropped, bro. Biological Matter Obliteration, BMO!"
"What the hell? That game where you kill a bunch of flying super zombies that shoot acid at you? The one new game where the trailer told us it will have epic sauce graphics and well written characters? I thought BMO would drop a month later, why is it out now?"
"I was surprised as hell too, bro, but it's out sooner than we thought. After you're done doing whatever ya need to do today, go buy it now and we'll play together when I get off work. I'm so excited!"
"Can do Fio!"
"See ya, bro. I got to go feed Cake and get ready for my crappy job at Starbucks, hopefully, I'll find a better one in due time."
"Don't worry, I know you get a better one."
"Aww, thanks my online homie!"
"Bye!"
"See ya!"
Finn hung up and continued jogging through the neighborhood while Jake kept up at a good pace. After running for some time, Finn came across some road work in the middle of the street; the construction workers had orange cones placed down and a yellow sign to direct cars to a different route as they were trying to fix a damaged street.
Finn saw that there was nobody in sight and saw an opportunity to test his agility and reflexes.
The blonde-haired man cracked his knuckles and ran towards the construction equipment. He grabbed Jake, the poor dog yelped in surprise, and with near superhuman agility and precision, Finn hopped on the top of the cones and leaped over the sign and made it on the other side of the roadwork.
"Ha, stuck it!" Finn said triumphantly while putting the shaking Jake back on the ground.
To this day, it was always odd to Finn how insanely high his brawn and agility was. He theorized that he inherited 'warrior genes' from his ancestors which explained why he was so strong and fast. After all, his own dad is an ex-Navy SEAL, so he must have got it from his side. He dominated everyone in his MMA classes, and he was a crack shot with all the guns his dad taught him how to shoot. Even all the way in elementary school, he beat up a bully that was bigger than him that was picking on him and his friends.
He always liked fighting, but he was no violent thug that started fights just because he wanted to beat up someone, his beatdowns were only reserved for the evil and unrighteous, or if he is defending himself from someone trying to deliberately harm him. Like his dad said when he was a little boy: "Don't start the fight, finish it."
It was like fate itself was telling Finn he was destined to be a great warrior or soldier, which is why he planned to join the military in the first place. He could have gone full into MMA to become a champion but chose the miliary anyway because it came with different skills that he wanted to learn and wanted to follow in his dad's footsteps.
After spending some time sprinting, Finn decided to return home to see his parents to cook them some breakfast. It was also because Jake was getting tired and didn't want to run anymore.
Finn and Jake arrived back home shortly, and the young man and dog went to the kitchen. Jake greedily drank water from the doggy bowl on the floor while Finn went into the fridge, grabbed a water bottle, and almost downed the whole thing in one go.
"Ahh, that hit the spot, huh Jake?" Finn said with satisfaction from quenching his thirst. Jake looked up at Finn for a second and then went back to licking up the water. The young blonde-haired man went up to his room to take off his clothes and take a quick shower.
Finn stood in front of the mirror of the bathroom and flexed, admiring just how muscular he got. When he was a young boy, he had baby arms and noodle legs, but now his body is harder than steel and chiseled. He wasn't bodybuilder huge as his muscles were more on the lean side. Finn liked it because bulky muscles would have slowed him down, being nimble and agile was actually more important than raw brute force.
He has seen how deadly men are in MMA, or the military. While both may not be as large and beefy as a bodybuilder, it's the fact that they are quicker on their feet, have better stamina, and know where to strike you to cause the most agony and damage is what makes them so dangerous. Finn still laughed to this day when he saw the video of two bodybuilders trying to complete the Nazy SEAL obstacle course and they couldn't do it.
His hair was cut in a military styled buzz cut, and even though he once had long and luxurious golden waterfall of hair that fell down his back, Finn thought it was important to cut it short because having too long hair in a fight would have been a weakness.
When he turned nineteen, Finn got various tattoos on his body. He had a skull tattoo on his right shoulder, a hissing snake tattoo that coiled around his right arm, and on his left shoulder was a sword and shield tattoo and a tattoo of vines wrapping around his left forearm, and finally, Finn had an anchor tattoo on his right chest.
The tattoos were a result of Finn trying to make himself look more tough and badass, much like a outgoing and cheerful daughter going through her edgy moody goth phase, but he later realized it was foolish as all it did was give off the impression that he was a mean thug; he didn't get rid of the tattoos and just accepted them as part of his body, so Finn tried to smile more and acted very friendly so everyone wouldn't immediately assume he was a thug because of his ink and rock solid muscles.
After flexing his well-defined abs, pecs, glutes, and biceps, Finn jumped into the shower and felt the nice warm water wash away all the sweat. When he was done taking a shower and drying himself off, Finn put on a fresh outfit.
The outfit consisted of a white beanie that had bear-like ears on top of it, a pair of dog tags, a light blue tanktop, white boxers, and dark blue jeans that had a brown belt that held a silver sword belt buckle. If he needed to slip outside, he had his black city shoes ready to go.
Finn went back into the kitchen and opened the fridge to grab some eggs and bacon so he could get started.
Finn's mother, Minerva came walking into the kitchen while yawning. The older woman was wearing a white nightgown and had short blonde hair that was cut in a bob. Minerva worked as a science teacher at the local high school, and it was a good thing he didn't get into her class while he was a teen attending the high school.
She babied him at home and he sure as heck didn't want a doting mother for a teacher that would have given him special 'attention' if he was in her class. While his dad was excited for him joining the military, Minerva of course felt a bit uncomfortable about it.
Finn knew she was smothering him a bit, and only did it because Minerva cared about him and loved her son deeply. She simply didn't want nothing terrible to happen to him if he were to be suddenly forced to participate in World War 3 while he was in the military.
"Good morning, mom!" Finn said cheerfully.
"Good morning, son. Thank you for making me and your father some breakfast." Minerva said with a warm smile.
"No worries!"
"Yeah, thank you, son." A deep masculine voice spoke up from behind Minerva. Muscular mannish arms wrapped around Minerva from behind as the older man, Finn's father, Martin, planted a kiss on the back of her neck, causing the woman to smile and giggle.
Martin was dressed in a white tanktop and wore some black boxers. He had a neat and tidy beard, moustache, his hair was cut in a buzz cut, and he was quite buff thanks to him taking up strength training after he retired from the military.
"Hey, dad, good morning!"
"Good morning my little warrior!"
Martin was an ex-Navy SEAL that retired from the military and married Minerva. After Finn was born, Martin saw the great potential in Finn being a soldier or warrior, since he had to keep picking him up from school because Finn constantly got suspended for looking for bullies to beat up who were picking on students, especially underclassmen during lunch break.
He realized his son wasn't just a fighter, but had a strong sense of justice and punishing the wicked. Martin thought that Finn was going to become something of a 'super cop' when he got older, but to his surprise, he wanted to become an army man just like his old pops. It filled the older man with pride and joy.
Minerva must have rubbed off on him as well. She loved helping people, so Finn wanted to help others as well in honor of his mother. He didn't want to be a bruiser that just beat up anyone that was bad and loved doing to because he wanted to see them bleed, he wanted to ensure that everyone was safe and protected.
When Finn got older, Martin started to train him and teach him skills geared towards survival and combat: teaching him how to fish, how to camp in the wilderness, trained him how to shoot a gun, even took him on a hunting trip to shoot, kill, and eat a deer, and paid for his MMA classes and that CPR class.
It wasn't like he was deliberately turning his son into a weapon, Finn wanted to know how to fight and survive and Martin showed him how. The warrior gene inside of Finn was strong and burned hot like liquid fire, and despite both parents doing everything in their power to ensure that Finn had a safe upbringing, especially with Minerva sheltering him, Finn still went out of his way to explore and take risks.
And now here he was, making breakfast for his parents.
"You had a good run, sport?" Martin asked, walking up to Finn who was getting ready to cook the eggs.
"Yep, the jog was good. I have my day already planned out dad. My morning jog, cooking you all breakfast, playing with my flute, going to the gun range on my motorcycle, trying out that totally radically new game that Fio told me about, and finishing off my day with some more workout and sword fighting." The young man answered.
"Love the sound of that, my boy. But here, let me help you cook…" Martin took out some bread from the fridge.
"Finn, sweetie." Minerva began.
"What's up, mom?"
"We need to have a chat later. There is something I need to tell you." She said hesitantly.
Martin looked at his wife confused.
"Something wrong, baby? We can talk now. We are all here."
Minerva sighed.
"Ok, I'll just spit it out. I don't feel like you should join the military, dear."
"Huh? Why not mom? Is it because its too dangerous?" Finn asked curiously.
Minerva sighed and nodded.
"Yes, I know you are a grown man now and that you can make your own decisions, but I feel like you should pick a safer option." She insisted. Finn was about to answer, but his dad beat him to the punch.
"Dear, we've been over this. If our boy wants to become a soldier, who are we to stop him? I know, I don't want nothing bad to happen to our pride and joy as well, so I somewhat agree with you baby, but we can't hold his hand forever." Martin explained.
Finn walked over to his mom and hugged her.
"Thank you so much mom for caring about my wellbeing, but I can do this. I'm not a little boy anymore, I'm strong and tough and it's time for me to open my wings and leave the comfort of the nest." He said sincerely.
Minerva hugged her child back and smiled, holding back tears. Finn and her husband were both right, she needed to stop worrying about the worst possible outcome at all times and needed to think more on the positive side.
Sometime later, Finn was in his bedroom on the second floor of the house playing the new game with Fionna. He just bought it seconds ago and is waiting for it to finish downloading on his Steam account.
As he waited, he glanced at his sword collection he had hanging on the walls of his room and smirked. They weren't fake and each blade was an actual real sword that he bought online with his cold hard cash.
Finn couldn't explain it well, but for some odd reason, he seemed to have a deep connection with swords. He was never trained in the arts of sword play and there was of course no sword training classes he could take when he was a kid, but to him…it felt so right holding a sword in his hand; it didn't matter if it was a longsword, katana, or even a machete, it felt like home holding a blade in his hand.
He never had this same deep connection when holding and shooting a gun. To him, a gun was just a tool, no different than a handyman using a hammer to smash down a nail. But with a blade? It felt like it was an extension of his spirit and willpower. Hell, even fighting in hand-to-hand combat felt more 'right' to him then using a gun.
It sucked that the military wouldn't let him carry a sword into battle.
It was taking longer than expected for the game to download, so Finn just decided to pass the time by playing more tunes from his flute that his mom bought him. After a few minutes, the game finished downloading and Finn put on his headset and started to play the game.
He called up Fionna to make sure she was on at the same time as him.
"Finn, you on?"
"Yeah, Fio. I just finished downloading BMO, are you ready for some monster slaying?"
"You know it homie!"
"Awesome sauce, let's see if Tiffany is on too."
"It's just us for tonight, dude. Tiffany can't make it."
"Ok, let's do this!"
Later on, Finn was in the backyard of his house swinging his longsword that he bought off the internet, cutting soda cans and plastic bottles. The sun was setting, and the air was starting to get chilly, but it didn't bother the blonde-haired man as he practiced swinging at invisible monsters 'attacking' him in the backyard. Jake was in the backyard with him, napping close by.
Whenever he was attacking, or hitting an inanimate object, or just shadow boxing with his fists, he would always imagine he would be striking down a terrible evil monster.
The terrible evil monster always seemed to take the form of a bizarre horned skeleton-like monster surrounded in green deadly flames. Finn would try to think about attacking zombies, or an evil dragon, but he couldn't explain why this skeletal horned monster engulfed in green fire always seemed to manifest in his mind.
After performing another swing with his sword, Finn sheathed it, walked over to a lawn chair and sat on it. He grabbed a can of beer that he opened earlier that he had resting in the cup holder of the chair and took a swig of it.
Finn pulled out a cigarette, lit it with a lighter from his pocket, and started to smoke. He only smoked occasionally, and he would never let it become an addiction. He of course only smoked when he wasn't around his parents, luckily, they weren't in the house at the moment and went on a little date at a fancy restaurant, so this a rare occasion that he can.
"You know…" Finn began, glancing at his beloved sleeping dog.
"It would be so cool if animals could talk. I know you Jake, you would probably be wondering when you are going to eat, or trying to sweet talk any female dog you meet, or try to explain to me that dragging your ass on the floor is a doggy massage that us humans can't understand. Hehe." Finn chuckled while blowing smoke from his mouth.
Finn's smartphone beeped as he got a text message from one of his college buddies, Donny.
Hey man, are you down to watch the Mystery Express tomorrow?
Sure, I'm excited. It's gonna be cool. We going at night?
Yeah, at the 9:00 showing, don't be late dude. Susan Strong is coming with us.
Mathematical!
Finn smiled, texting Donny back the replies. He was excited to see the Mystery Express because he heard that it got a lot of good reviews and word on the street is that it is well written.
Finn suddenly flinched and dropped his smartphone as a sharp stabbing pain struck his head.
"Ow, what the hell!?" He grunted as he grabbed his head. A strange image flashed in his mind, and it was gone as fast as it appeared, but Finn was able to still get a good impression of it. In the image, it showed him and Jake walking towards a large tree house. The weirdest thing wasn't the tree house, but the fact that he was a teenage boy in the image with his arm replaced by a metal arm and Jake was…standing up right like a man.
Finn coughed out smoke trying to get his bearings. He soon recovered, but he was still a bit shaken by the image as this was his first experience. It couldn't have been HIS memory, why was his arm missing and replaced by a robot limb? How was Jake able to stand up right like a man? Who built that tree house? Did he build it? Or did it belong to someone else? The blonde-haired man rubbed his arms to compose himself as puzzlement washed over him.
Finn got up from the chair and went back to the house to throw away his cigarette and beer; he just needed sleep as all and maybe that out of nowhere migraine was a wake-up call that drinking and smoking was bad, and he shouldn't have been doing it. He really should have listened to mom.
"Ahh!" Finn exclaimed in pain when another image flashed in his mind. This time he was inside the tree house, sitting on a sofa, and there was a pale skinned young woman that had long black hair and pointed ears that had her arm wrapped around his shoulder. In the image, the upright standing Jake was clearly terrified of the pale lady while the kid version of himself looked both interested, but cautious of the pale lady.
Jake being an upright standing dog was already pretty strange, but this one was terrifying as the pale young woman had sharp vampire-like fangs, red glowing eyes, and was giving him a mischievous smirk. Who was this woman? But more importantly, WHAT was she exactly? A vampire? Demon? A sexy zombie girl? Succubus? Finn couldn't deny that despite the pale monster chick looking intimidating, she was still hot.
"Ugh, no more drinking and smoking for me. I got to sleep this off…" Finn muttered. As much as Finn wanted to blame the smoking and alcohol, he had a bad feeling that something bigger was happening because this was the first time he had experienced this strange migraine with random flashes of images appearing in his mind.
Finn made it inside the house and tossed away his booze and cigarette, but Finn flinched in pain again when another image flashed in his mind, causing him to almost trip in the living room of his home.
This image was a kid version of himself getting kissed on the cheek by a pink woman wearing a pink dress. The lady was giving Finn strong Disney Princess vibes and just like the scary pale lady, there was an inhuman aspect about her too. She didn't have human hair, rather she had a large wad of pink bubblegum that went down her back as her 'hair' and sugary light pink skin that looked so off to Finn. Despite her strange appearance, Finn still found her attractive just like the scary pale lady and it bothered the blonde-haired man as to why he found himself so drawn to these non-human women that he knew nothing about.
Finn rubbed his forehead and decided to go take some medicine to get rid of the migraines.
