I've been deep into my Glee and Flash phase and just finished rewatching/watching some episodes of Glee again. I am currently loving the "What if Barry lived with Marley" fics (Bad Blood by TeganLynn at AO3 is one of my faves so far) and I cant help feel that the Shooting Star scene needed a little more drama if Barry was involved.
Background : Seb and Barry are twins. Marley is their cousin. Barry spends his Senior Year with Marley and her mom, Barry was in McKinley when the shooting happened.
Barry sat beside his cousin Marley. His hand holding on to one of hers tight while she snuggled beside her boyfriend. The shooting in McKinley had shaken the entire school. And the Glee club and the band decided to ditch the assembly to just do what was best for them and sing.
Years of his love of musicals from watching Singing in the Rain with his mom and his brother. Music was always his way to express his emotions. He doesn't know how he would've coped if he didn't have Glee club. Moving across the country to live with his Aunt and Cousin when Central City became too much, seeing his brother for the first time in over seven years and opening their problems for the first time since his mom's death. And most recently, fearing for his own life hearing the gun fired in the school. The dread that he will never see his dad free from prison, never seeing Iris and Joe, and for the last thing he said to his brother being some stupid argument.
Take all of your wasted honor
Every little past frustration
Take all of your so called problems
Better put 'em in quotations
Say what you need to say (x3)
Quick footsteps echoed through the backstage hallway. A boy in a disheveled Dalton Uniform sprinted out and entered the stage where the Glee club was settled.
The Glee club turned to see Sebastian Smythe not like they've ever seen him before. His hair ruffled and flat over his head almost covering his swollen bloodshot eyes. His shirt partially tucked under his blazer his tie hanging loose on his neck.
"Bas?" Barry whispered approaching his brother.
"Barry."
Sebastian grabbed his brother tighter than he did when their mother died. The Warbler holding tight as he knelt on the ground with his arms around his brother. Tremors shaking his shoulders as he silently sobbed into his brother's shoulder.
"I'm sorry." he sobbed softly into Barry's shoulder as the Glee club continued to sing together. "I'm so sorry! I don't want it to be you. I never want it to be you."
Barry helped his brother on to his feet as they sat on the stands. Arms wrapped around each other. Barry brushed his bangs off the face of his usually well put together brother. Sebastian wrapping his fingers between his brother's slowly feeling the comfort of having his brother beside him.
You better know that in the end
It's better to say too much
Than never to say what you need to say again
Say what you need to say (x3)
Even if your hands are shaking
And your faith is broken
(Even as the eyes are closin')
(Do it with a heart wide open)
Wide heart! (Wide)
Say what you need to say (Oh say what) X3
Sebastian hummed with the New Directions. Feeling the warmth of his brother beside him feeling the vibrations of the instruments on the ground and the voices of his Rivals echoing through the auditorium.

Dalton
Sebastian was making his way back to his dorm when he saw his brother in the hallways of Dalton.
"Barry." Sebastian greeted. "Please tell me you're not here to try and decoy Hunter again like with the trophy. I don't think it'll work a second time and I'll be able to keep him from tossing you out this time."
"We need to talk." Barry looked around the ever crowded hallway of Dalton. "In private."
Sebastian nodded his head towards the classrooms.
The two found an empty classroom. Sebastian placing his bag on one of the student chairs motioning for his brother to proceed.
"I know what you did." Barry said. "What you and the Warblers did."
"And what is that."
"You guys used performance enhancers for sectionals." Barry declared. "You may be more athletic between the two of us. But you cant do fancy flips and tumbles. I know you get nauseated easily."
"These are baseless accusations. First off, no where in our choreography did I do any fancy flips or tumbles." Sebastian defended calmly. "And secondly, we haven't lived in the same room for more than seven years. I haven't gotten motion based nausea for a long time."
"Just admit it, Seb." Barry insisted. "You know what you did. I know it's eating you up inside. You gained more muscle than you did when we first reunited, you're breaking out, and you're way more irritable than normal."
"Barry." Sebastian said with slight condescension. "Dalton isn't like that precious public school of yours. The classes are harder and more demanding, of course I'm stressed. When I'm stressed I start breaking out. And some of the guys can be frustrating to work with you know. Not to mention, I play in a contact sport that requires random drug testing on their athletes. Why in the world would I be subjecting myself to injecting performance enhancing drugs for a Glee club."
"You know what I mean, Sebastian." Barry said clearly angry. "You know better than to resort to drugs. Dad always warned us about them back when you were performing."
Sebastian rolled his eyes. "Yes, I am going to follow the advise of a murderer."
"He didn't do it!"
"Grow up, Barry!" Sebastian exclaimed. "He killed our mom."
"It wasn't!" Barry insisted. "The man in yellow in the lightning…"
"What I'm supposed to believe that a human sized Pikachu came into our house in March, days after our eleventh birthday. To Stab our mom with a knife?" Sebastian demanded incredulously. "If you were going to start making up lies, you could've at least been a little more creative about it. Like I don't know it being the Grim Reaper. Or some sort of mugger."
"He's our dad!" Barry shouted back. "How could you not believe him? Not believe me? You know that he would never hurt my mom."
"She was my mom too." Sebastian glared. "I would never forgive him. He broke our family. He broke us apart. You aren't any better."
"Me?" Barry was taken aback. "What did I do?"
"Do you ever wonder why I had to go into foster care. Why I had to be adopted by the Smythes?"
"Joe couldn't take both of us…"
"Oh you are so wrong, Bartholomew. So naïve." Sebastian taunted. "No one wanted to adopt you. All these allegations, the fantasies, the delusions. They wanted to take me away so you won't infect me with these illusions. I had to be taken away from my home! Away from everything, I knew. My friends, my school, even you. Just because you can't keep your freaking mouth shut! Joe didn't take you because he wanted to. He took you out of pity."
"He wouldn't have had to if dad wasn't convicted for what he didn't do!"
"You know what, I don't even want to talk about this anymore. We obviously will never agree on anything." Sebastian said walking out of the classroom. Barry chased after his brother to the mostly empty hallway.
"You've changed."
"It's called growing up, Barry." Sebastian turned away from his brother. "It's time you do so as well."
"Mom would be disappointed in you." Barry declared. "She would be rolling in her grave. Knowing her husband was serving a life sentence. For his son, abandoning her."
"You didn't love her like I did!" Sebastian cried his face growing hotter and the sides of his vision blurring. "I would never dishonor her name by setting her murderer free!"
"But he is!" Barry exclaimed. "And she'll be most upset with you. She wont know her precious Sebby. He's grown into a coward, a cheat, and a chauvinistic bully!"
Sebastian froze. Rage and anger exploded in his head when he turned to his brother and practically lunged at him. He was caught and held back by two familiar Warblers when Blaine turned up pulling Barry away from the angry Sebastian.
"What is going on here?" Nick demanded as he held back the struggling Sebastian.
"I hate you! I wish it was you!" Sebastian screamed. "I wish you had died instead of her!"
Barry's face practically shattered with emotion as Blaine started to pull him away. Nick and Jeff pulling their friend towards the dorms away from the halls.

Say what you need to say (Oh say)
Say what you need to say (Oh say what)
Say what you need to say (Oh say what)
Say what you need to say (Oh say what)
Say what you need to say
Sebastian felt so exposed being with his rivals in his state. But feeling his brother's arm around his shoulders. He didn't think he cared.
The hallways were a commotion that morning. The Warblers had gotten the news McKinley High School had a gun shot incident. Two bullets were fired within the campus. Sebastian was feeling the withdrawal harder than any of the Warblers. Hunter had wanted his roommate, co-captain, and lead be at the top of his game. He had started on him before even broaching it to the Warblers.
The last few months were torture. But when the news broke, Sebastian felt all the blood in his body drain.
Barry. He cannot be… He cannot have the last thing he said to his brother that he hated him. He can't lose his better half. He can't lose Barry without him knowing the truth.
Sebastian had barely put on his uniform before he was sprinting off the halls. The Warblers so confused with their currently sickly and lethargic withdrawing Captain. Until Jeff murmured "Barry". They all just hoped and prayed from their school covering for their distraught captain. Hoping to hear news.
Sebastian held tightly to his brother. Tears still streaming steadily from his eyes. Even after they finished the song. Barry could feel Sebastian trembling under his arm. Sensing that his brother was more distraught than the rest of them, and knowing he wouldn't say it in front of his fellow club mates, Blaine helped Barry lead Sebastian to the Choir room. Sebastian practically attached to his brother. Robotically following but still trying to merge his body with his brother.
"Thanks Blaine." Barry said.
"Of course." Blaine said closing the doors of the choir room to leave the brother to their privacy.
Sebastian's sobs started again a little more audible in the quiet acoustics of the room.
"I'm sorry for what I said." Sebastian sobbed. "What I did, I can't even… I didn't want… I don't ever want to lose you."
"I'm alright, Bas." Barry rubbed his arms up and down his brother's back "We're both alright."
"News just got to the Warblers." Sebastian sobbed. "We were under probation. If it had been you, and after all that I said. Everything that I didn't tell you. What I haven't gotten a chance to… I just got you back!"
Barry continued to try and comfort his brother, his own tears rolling down his cheeks as he held tight to his brother.
When Sebastian had managed to calm enough to pull himself away from his brother enough to face him. Barry gently wiped the tears off his brother's cheek. Sebastian placing his hand right on top of Barry's at his own cheek leaning right into his hand.
"I'm so sorry." Sebastian said his voice cracking. "I love you, Barry. I don't ever want to lose you. I didn't mean what I said. I was angry. I was hurt. I …"
"I forgive you." Barry whispered. "I was wrong to say all those things. What happened to us… it was not normal. I know. But I can't leave him in there. Not when I saw something. No matter how impossible."
Sebastian shakily stood up and took a few steps away from his brother. He had his back to his brother his right foot sliding a little front and back while staying in place. Barry knew this is how Sebastian was when he didn't know what to say. Or when he was nervous.
"I…" Sebastian took a deep breath when he turned to look at his brother again. "I get these nightmares. From that night."
He played with the edge of his blazer his eyes not meeting Barry's "I see Edgar and water floating over his tank. Hearing the window breaking. I could hear the screaming. You were calling for mom. Before these flashes of red and yellow light just blinked outside our window."
"You saw it, too."
Sebastian nodded slowly. "After everything that happened with Hunter, Dalton required the Warblers to talk to a professional. They thought maybe some of us were a little too easy influenced."
Barry looked at his brother in the eye. The usually well kept, prim and proper façade his brother used was no where to be seen.
"I was affected more than the rest." Sebastian said. "Hunter was my roommate. And he was my friend. They thought I might have been too influenced by the drugs or the pressure. And when my therapist found out I was adopted. Found out about our history. She thought it was weird. I can't remember anything from that night. Repressed memories she said."
"I don't want to believe it." Sebastian admitted angrily to himself. "I didn't want to believe any of it. Because it means that we left him. I left him."
"We'll get him out, Bassy." Barry grabbed Sebastian's hands "One day, we'll catch him. And we'll get dad out of prison."
Sebastian pulled his brother into a hug again. Calmer but his emotions no less fierce than earlier.
"How much trouble are you gonna be from speeding your way here?"
"Oh, I'm sure I'm going to get detention once I get back, at least." Sebastian said off handedly. "But it's worth it."
"Maybe we can get a coffee soon?" Barry said. "Call me when the jailbird is out?"
"Of course." Sebastian said. "I do have one question."
"Go for it."
"Why is Blaine in a cheerleading jersey?"
Of course I had to give Sebastian a snarky comment on Blaine's outfit. XD
This was touching. Heartbreaking and I kind of love the fight. I don't particularly want to remake this trope as the ones I've found so far are well written and admittedly I am only 75% invested in S04 McKinley plotline. I loved the Warblers more (obviously as shown in my story list) I just had been watching the show recently and I wanted to take a whack at this narrative.
