It was 3:04pm. Ann was on her couch. She was staring at her telephone, which was on the table. There was a knock on her door.
"Come in."
Donald entered. "Hi, Ann."
She got up and hugged and kissed him. "You got the time off, wonderful!"
"Fortunately, we're not so busy at the moment. Ok, what's the big news?"
"My agent Seymour will be calling me, soon. He says I might get that play roll!"
"You mean for Murder at the Ascot Hotel?"
"Yes! Well, it's actually Death at the Ascot Hotel."
"Wonderful! Didn't you tell me that there's a scene in it where you end up in a swimming pool with all your clothes on?"
"That's right!"
"Well, I'm right here for you, when the call comes through."
"Oh, Donald, thank you!"
They sat on the couch together.
"Want to watch tv, while we're waiting?" he asked.
"No, I'm too tensed-up for that!"
"Ok."
They grew silent. A call came through, after a few minutes.
First Ring:
"Oh, my gosh, this could be it!" she said.
Second Ring:
"Aren't you going to answer it?" he said.
Third Ring:
"I can't, Donald!" she said.
Fourth Ring:
"Well then, I'm going to!" he said.
He picked up the phone and gave it to her. She shook her head. He glared at her and shoved the phone over to her, and she reluctantly grabbed it.
"H-Hello?...Hi, Seymour...I GOT IT?! Oh, that's wonderful news!...Ok, I'll be there tomorrow. What's a good time?...10:00am, that's fine. And thank you so much!...Bye!" She hung up. "Donald, I got the roll!"
"So, I gathered! That's fantastic!"
They hugged and kissed.
"Seymour wants me to come over so I can sign the contracts, tomorrow. Oh, Donald, I can't believe it!"
"Congratulations, Ann, you deserve it, after all these years."
"Thank you, Donald!"
Again, they kissed.
"So, you don't mind going swimming in a maid's uniform, every evening?"
"If it's the path to success, why not! Hey, perhaps I could train for it."
"What, you mean jump into a pool with all your clothes on?"
"Sure, why not!"
"Are there any pools around here?"
"No, but there's a fountain close by."
"Ann, you could get arrested for swimming in a public fountain!"
She thought about this for a bit. "Yeah, I guess you're right!"
"Why don't I treat you to dinner, tonight?"
"Sounds wonderful! It's still early, so let's relax for a bit."
"Good idea, Ann."
She turned the tv on, and they watched soap operas. At 5:00, they went to dinner.
