Ruby vs. Maka: A discussion

DragonKingDragneel25 walked up to the podium and cleared his throat. "Welcome!" he greeted his audience. "As I'm sure y'all are aware, Death Battle is making a triumphant come back, later this year." The crowd roared in response. "And among the promised Death Battles on the docket, is one that is widely requested: Ruby Rose verses Maka Albarn!" This caused the crowd to roar even louder.

"Ooooh yeah! My time to shine baby!" Ruby Rose cheered in happiness as she jumped next to her friend Maka, who was equally ecstatic.

"Second one from my universe to make into these revered games! I'm psyched!" Maka Albarn agreed.

"This is so beyond cool!" Soul Eater Evans shouted with a signature knife-tooth grin.

"Kick ass, Ruby!" Yang Xiao Long shouted.

"Good luck!" Blake Belladonna agreed, waving a 'Team RWBY' flag.

"Hell yeah! My baby is finally getting the respect she deserves!" Spirit Albarn shouted, waving his arms around like a mad man. Franken Stein rolled his eyes, as did Weiss Schnee from her position next to her team.

"Yes, yes! It's an amazing time to be alive!" Dragon agreed with the crowd, and they quickly quieted down. "I completely agree! However, as the countdown for this fight runs down, I'm afraid I have…one major question that no one seems keen on answering…" Here, he frowned. "Or at least, one I can't find people discussing…"

"And what is it, Dragon?" Death the Kid asked curiously.

"This Death Battle: How are they going to justify it?" Dragon asked the crowd, to their confusion. "Because in order to have Maka at her absolute best, which is their mundus operandi for the competition, Maka needs her scythe. But that would break their 'no outside assistance' aspect of the fights because her scythe is an ACTUAL CHARACTER, whom we all know as Soul Eater Evans!"

"Ah, I see where you're coming from now!" Maka exclaimed. She put a hand on her chin and mused, "You know, that's a good point. That makes the fight 2v1, in my favor against you, Ruby," she continued, turning to the Huntress.

"Eh, I'm sure it's fine!" Ruby told her. "I bet Wiz and Boomstick will have some means of countering that!"

"But Dragon has a point," Weiss commented with a frown. "Normally, if the fighter's a member of a duo and enter the fight together, the opponent has one too."

"Exactly!" Dragon shouted, pointing at the heiress. "And don't take this the wrong way, because I love the world of RWBY and everything involved with the show, but after getting into the Soul Eater manga, I have to agree with many of the predictions, and that is Ruby's not likely to win. Especially if Maka is allowed into the arena with Soul by her side."

"Well, yeah! But it's all in good fun!" Ruby explained to him. "I don't mind losing to Maka; I'm just excited for both of us to enter the annals of Death Battle history!"

"Still, he has a reason to be concerned," Maka told her. "I want to beat you on my own power, not mine combined with Soul's if you're just flying solo. No offense, Soul."

"None taken," the Demon Weapon told her. "I'd want the same."

"I highly doubt Maka is that far off from Ruby," Yang grumbled.

"That argument is up for debate, since RT kept your show's details sparse, and focused on story, rather than the fights and feats," Free commented to her. The blonde turned to glare at the werewolf, but he continued, "I'm not wrong! Your best feat came from taking a mech suit's punch, yet in Volume 8, your Aura was one shotted by not only the Hound, but also Neo! Aura's shielding is so inconsistent and untrustworthy, it never matters if you upscale it or downscale it, SOMEONE'S going to dispute it!"

"And let's not forget, Maka's somewhat comparable to Crona, who already has a Death Battle, so we have a pretty good baseline on how busted the Soul Eater universe can be at times thanks to him," Mercury Black added in.

"I was crunched for time trying to save Ruby!" Yang protested. "And don't forget, we've been fighting for two days with no sleep!"

" You put up a much better fight with Neo in Volume 2 with having no sleep for three days and fighting!" Black Star reminded her.

"Ruby has her Silver Eyes though!" Nora Valkyrie piped up. "I'm sure with how similar Black Blood is to Grimm goop, that she can immobilize Soul easily!"

"I'm…not sure it works like that," Ruby said uneasily.

"I mean, it could, but who knows how the hosts are going to interpret that," Soul admitted. "And honestly, Rooster Teeth was notoriously tight lipped on how the Silver Eyes worked. We only ever got that it only worked on Grimm, and it was from the god of light."

"And just because it might work, doesn't mean it'll be a sure thing!" Maria Calavera rebuked Nora. "Ruby used it against the Hound, and it only ever burnt off some of the Grimm skin covering that poor man!"

"And it didn't work as well against the Leviathan, either," Ruby explained. "It froze it, yeah, but it broke out just as quickly."

"But what about the Wyvern Grimm?" Penny Polendina asked curiously.

"Likely," Summer Rose piped up from her spot, "it was because that was when she first awakened her power. My dad always said a Silver Eye's awakening revealed how powerful the Silver Eye was destined to be. And none of my families' stories had a Silver Eye petrifying anything larger than a Goliath for over a century."

"And students!" Death decided to chirp. "Don't take that literally as a sign Ruby-chan can win! This is still, after all, a fanfiction, and Dragon has to take some liberties with the world of RWBY because of the sparse storytelling."

"Thank you, Death," Dragon said gratefully. "Even still, y'all make great points. But, the fact of the matter is, my concern for the fight will be how will they justify a 2v1 of Soul and Maka against Ruby solo?"

"Well, they're not likely to do Ruby vs. Maka until, at the earliest, mid 2025," Stien spoke up, gaining everyone's attention. "Knowing that, there's possibility that since Viz Media bought the IP, they'll hold off on the Battle until Viz continues with Volume 10, or remakes RWBY entirely and reworks the scaling issue."

"Hm…that's possible," Pyrrha Nikos mused with a hum. "And since Death Battle was owned by Rooster Teeth, Viz might be inspired to add something to the new version that will fix this issue we have."

"What? Like have Penny's soul inhabit Crescent Rose?" Yang asked with snort.

"Well, that would solve the 2v1 issue…"

"Yeah, but would they go for that?" Tsubaki Nakatsukasa asked.

"Doubt it," Cinder Fall grumbled.

"Are you still upset with RT?" Medusa Gorgon asked with a smirk.

"They made me stupid!" she hissed.

"Not like it was hard," Raven Branwen scoffed. Cinder turned and glared at her, but then someone else spoke up.

"Wait. What about if they use the anime version of Maka?" Patricia "Patty" Thompson asked.

"Yeah! That version of Maka had her weapon genes activated, right?" Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson added.

"Hm…Maka is less powerful in the anime because of where they stopped," Ox Ford mused. "It would be a fairer exchange…"

"FOOLS!" everyone jumped at the loud shout.

"Oh, Lord have mercy! Didn't I leave you chained in your cave?! What are you doing here?!" Dragon demanded, pointing aggressively at Excalibur, who just spun his cane and pointed back at the Fanfiction writer.

"FOOL!" the legendary Weapon cried and retracted his staff. "Why are you asking all these inane questions? There's no point to it! Death Battle has always been, at its core, a show dedicated to showing the hosts' love for their favorite characters across all mediums!"

Everyone stared at Excalibur in shock and growing awe. "It is a love letter to the stories and characters of the fictional realm! To argue and fight over petty details is FOOLISHNESS, and we should not devolve into such people!" He points his cane at the group and shouts, "That is why I must insist that you all just accept that Wizard and Boomstick know what they are doing and simply enjoy the episode when it comes out!"

"…W-Whoa…" Sun Wukong said in awe.

" That was so cool…" Neptune agreed.

"Dammit," Black Star grumbled. "Why'd he have to steal the spotlight…?"

"I agree," Kid grumbled as well.

"Wow, Excalibur," Dragon said, impressed, "it's been a while since you've dropped something so profound! It's really-"

"FOOL!" the Legendary Sword shouted suddenly, pointing at Dragon. "Everything I say is profound. Do not forget that."

"…You just had to ruin it, didn't you?" the writer grumbled. "But anyways, I think that's a wrap here. But I suppose I will now leave the question to whomever reads this fic: What are your thoughts on my question? How will Wiz and Boomstick handle the 2v1 issue of Maka and Soul against Ruby? Will they just leave it be and have Ruby be at a major disadvantage? Will they be only use anime Maka and Soul? Or will they-"

"FOOL!"

"Shut up, Excalibur!"
