After the explosion happened, Jordan watched the house burn as it was engulfed in flames. Jay's arms holding her tight. She was frozen. No. Her father was in there. Maybe a couple of the others as well. A moment later she started to fight to get out of Jay's hold.
"Let me go Jay! Get off me! Dad! Daddy! No! Get off me!" Jordan struggled as tears fell from her eyes.
The young detective was trying to pull her away but was having a hard time as she fought his hold. "Jordan stop. I need you to relax"
"Get off me!"
The teen didn't want to but she had to get to her father, she stomped hard on his foot and started ramming her elbow into his midsection. Jay's grip was starting to loosen but it wasn't enough to release her.
"Sorry Jay" She muttered. As hard as she could she bit down on his arm.
He screamed and his arms dropped letting her go, Jordan bolted for the house. Jay saw her. "Dammit Jordan. Casey! Severide! Jordan ran inside!"
"Son of a bitch" Kelly cursed.
He quickly put his gear and ran after her, Jordan covered her nose as she was in the burning house.
"Dad! Daddy! DAD!"
Kelly had run in the house and quickly found the teen, the teen was inhaling too much smoke and was getting dizzy. She had kept trying to keep her nose covered but failed as the deep black smoke blinded her. Kelly lost her for a moment but had found her and grabbed her. She couldn't fight as he rushed her outside.
"Brett! Gabby! She needs oxygen!" Kelly called frantically.
He rushed her over and laid her on the gunnery, they put an oxygen mask on her. Antonio went over. "I'll stay with her. Kelly, can you and the others go find Hank, Kevin, and Olinsky?"
"Yeah" Kelly gave a nod.
The squad had gone to search for the three missing officers, the truck worked on putting the fire out. After getting some oxygen the teen started to come to and coughed harshly. She was trying to fight getting the mask off.
"Jo, Jo stop sweetheart you need this to breathe" Gabby told her.
"Dad...Daddy...no" Was all she could cry.
None of the adults knew what to say, they didn't know if Hank was dead or alive. Antonio looked at her.
"Jo, what were you thinking? You could have been killed" He said.
"I had to find my dad. I had to. He's all I've got" She sniffed back tears.
"Try and rest sweetie, they'll find your dad and the others" Brett says softly.
They put her in the ambulance and Antonio sat with her holding her hand. He looked hoping Kelly and the others found Hank and the others.
In the backyard, Hank, Kevin and Alvin, were laying in the grass all knocked out. Hank slowly came around first, he felt as if he was hit by something hard. A very loud buzzing in his ear, he looked to see Kevin and Alvin being helped up by the squad guys, Kelly had found Hank.
"Hank. Hank it's Kelly can you hear me" Kelly said.
"I...I hear you" The older Sergeant replied.
"Let's get you checked out"
Kelly helped the older man to the front, Cruz had Alvin, Capp had Kevin. When they got to the front Alvin and Kevin were taken to ambulances, Hank just shrugged it off as if he was fine.
"Hank you were near the explosion, I really think you need to be checked out. You could have a concussion, you could have some other kind of injury"
"Kelly, I'm fine. I barely have a scratch"
"At least let Gabby or Brett give you a look over for a moment"
"Fine, a quick look over but I feel fine"
When Hank got to the front he stopped, his heart skipped beat. The scene was chaotic and there was no doubt about that. Fire Trucks, ambulances, and cop cars filled the streets. He scanned the area what seemed like multiple times. He could not find his daughter. She wasn't anywhere around. Not with Casey. Not with Boden. Not with anyone from his team. Where was his daughter?
Suddenly it felt as if Hank couldn't breathe, he kept looking around for her but didn't see her. A fearful thought went into his head. What if Jordan was hurt in the explosion or worse? Kelly saw him and got worried.
"Hank, you ok?"
"Jo...where's Jo?"
"She's getting oxygen, she tried to run in after you"
The older father quickly went from cop mode back to father mode as he rushed and began searching for his daughter. Antonio managed to keep Jordan calm for the moment but still didn't know what to tell her about her father.
Antonio looked outside of the ambulance and saw his boss, he sighed in relief knowing he's ok which means Kevin and Alvin were ok. He hopped out and went over to him.
"Hank!" Antonio called.
The older Sergeant turned to hear his name be called, tuning he saw his senior detective. He grabbed him in a desperate hold. "Antonio, where's Jo?"
"Right in there with Gabby" He pointed to the ambulance with his sister and niece.
After taking a breath Hank had gotten the air back in his lungs. He ran over. "Jo! Jo!"
Gabby was brushing her hair back when they all heard a familiar gruff voice. Jordan knew it anywhere, looking she had seen her father. As quickly as she could she practically ripped the mask off her face and scurried off the bed.
"Daddy! Daddy!" She called.
Hank was close by and she jumped into his arms, she had wrapped her arms around his neck tightly burying her face into his shoulder. The older father was relieved as he sighed in relief holding his little girl. One hand rested on the back of her head and the other on her back.
"I'm here sweetheart, I got you. You're ok, I'm ok" He whispered in her ear.
"I...I thought..I lost you" She sobbed a bit.
"Never baby. Never"
After a few minutes he pulled away and wiped her eyes. "Don't think we're not gonna talk about you running into burning buildings later missy"
She gave a chuckle and wiped her face. "Sorry about that"
"Never do that again or you're grounded"
"I swear I won't"
Once the scene was secure and the fire was out, Hank had gone over to Boden.
"Chief, I think we could use your help with this," Hank said.
"We'll help anyway we can," Boden had told the older Sergeant.
"This guy was going after, he's no amature. He knows what he's doing. We know he's had some sort of training for this. Almost like he's done this before. The ingredients he put in the bombs, I may believe he's a former firefighter, he could have been let go of the job for whatever reason"
"We'll find out what we can and get back to you"
"Thank you"
The 51 crew went back to the station while the intelligence unit went back to the 21st. Jordan had stayed quiet, she had a feeling they would chew her out for her running into the burning house the way she did. The teen already knew her father was gonna get her for it.
Everyone had gotten back and went to the common room to rest for a bit, Casey had stayed outside thinking. He had overheard some of Boden and Hank's conversation of how it could possibly be a former firefighter or one that lost their job.
Jordan had gone to the truck Lieutenant. "Casey, I'm sorry for how I acted at the fire and ran inside the building. I was scared I had lost my dad"
Getting to the teen's level he saw the look in her eyes. "I know you're sorry but Jordan you could have gotten yourself killed. It was a very wreckless thing to do"
"I know and I'm sorry. My dad is all I have, I didn't wanna lose him"
"And you'll never lose him. Just never again do something like that again"
"I give you my word"
"Good. And Jo, you'll never be alone. You have a whole family who loves and cares about you"
She had smiled and hugged him. "Thanks Casey"
"You're welcome kiddo"
They had gone back to get some food. An hour later Jordan was asleep on the couch, Kelly had carefully picked her up and carried her to the bunk area. He covered her up and sat on the bed watching her.
He couldn't believe that the teen had run into a burning building to save her father, part of him didn't blame her; he would have done it to save his own father. But the other part of him his emotions were mixed, he was angry, worried, she was under their care and she had pulled a stunt like this that had nearly cost her her life.
Stella had gone to the bunk area to check on him, she saw him watching the teen sleep soundly. Quietlyshe went over sitting next to him.
"You ok Kel?" Stella asked softly.
"I'm good, just wanna keep an eye on Jo" Kelly replied with a soft smile.
"Kelly, she's fine. She's asleep"
"We almost lost her today"
"But we didn't you got her in time"
He sighed sadly looking at the teen. "Nobody ever knew she existed at first, Hank hadn't told a soul about her except a few people. We found out because Antonio told us about her. It was right after Hank went to jail, he had a case and needed someone to watch her. He had brought her here. Hank had kept her in the dark about everything so people wouldn't jump down her throat about the stuff he did, he wanted people to leave her alone and not drag her into anything"
"She's a sweet girl"
"She always has been"
"Let's leave her to rest"
They had gone out to the common room, when they had gone out there Hank, Antonio, and Jay were there. Kelly had gone to them.
"Hey, is everything ok?" Kelly asked.
"Can you get Boden and Casey?" Jay replied in response.
The squad lieutenant had gone to get his boss and Casey, they all had gathered in the conference room. They closed the doors so they wouldn't be disrupted.
"What's going on Hank?" Boden asked.
"We may have a name on the possible fire fighter, Declan Tristen" Hank started.
"I know him," Casey spoke up.
"How do you know him?" Antonio asked.
"We started in the Academy around the same time. We had a class or two together. I hadn't heard from him in a long time"
"Back in 2011, he was injured in a fire. He lied to the department about the injuries and lied about all his psych evals. When the department found out they fired him" Jay had said this time. "Ever since then he's been getting in trouble with the law. DUIs, assaults, battery, he has now upgraded to arson and bombings"
"We think what could have triggered him. He tried to reapply to the CFD and they turned him down. Or he just lost his finance in a fire. Could be both. He's armed and dangerous" Hank says this time.
Before anyone could say anything the door was opened by Otis. "Casey, you have a visitor"
"Who is it?"
"All I got was a Declan"
"He's here," Jay said.
Hank had felt his heart race a bit. His daughter was in the same building as a possible armed and dangerous suspect. He tried to keep his cool. Antonio had seen the look on his face.
"Hey Jo's fine. She's safe" Antonio told the worried father.
"I know" Hank replied, trying to believe it.
When Casey went out Declan was there, he wore a big jacket he looked around he was a mess. Bags under his eyes, hair was a mess, eyes were bloodshot.
"Declan, what are you doing here?" Casey said, playing cool.
Turning around the man saw Casey and smiled. "I thought I'd come see my friend"
"I'm here. What's going on"
"It's been so long since we seen each other"
"It has been a long time"
"Why didn't you help me when the department kicked me out?"
"I didn't know Declan"
"Bull. Everyone in the department heard about me, you mean to tell me everyone but you haven't heard it?"
"I did hear it but what was I supposed to do? It wasn't my decision"
"You could have spoken for me!"
"Declan it wouldn't have mattered. You lied about your injuries and a psych eval. If I spoke or not it wouldn't have really done anything. They would have still let you go"
Coming down from the bunk area was Jordan, rubbing the sleep from her eyes as she was going to the common room. Hank had peeked out the window seeing her, his heart had just about stopped. No. Not again. Jay had slipped out and quickly went after her. He tried not to get noticed by Declan.
Going up behind the teen he quickly grabbed her and covered her mouth, Jordan was in panic mode as she fought.
"Shh Jo it's me. It's Jay" Jay whispered in her ear.
She had settled down as she looked at him and he uncovered her mouth. "I need you to do as I say ok"
"Where's my dad?" Jordan asked, scared.
"He's here I had to get you away from this suspect"
"You mean the bomber? He's here?"
"We think so yes"
Declan saw Jay and saw he was talking to someone, he went over taking a gun out. He put the gun in Jay's back. Jordan saw him and her eyes went wide seeing the weapon go in Jay's back.
"Play along" Jay told her quietly. Jordan had nodded in response.
"Who the hell are you?" Declan asked Jay angrily.
"I'm Jay, I'm just here to pick up my daughter, Andy" Jay answered, slowly getting up and raising his hands. He made sure to keep the teen behind him.
"You know the people here?"
"I do. He" He pointed to Casey. "He's my cousin, I asked him to watch my daughter while I was at work. I just came to pick her up"
The former firefighter looked to Casey. "That true?"
Casey looked to Jay, the detective gave him a nod and a look that said, 'play along'
"It's true, I was babysitting for my cousin. I was the only one who was available to do it" Casey answered with a straight face.
Jay saw something small in his hand, it looked like a detonator for a bomb. He swallowed hard. The young detective had to play this out carefully. Looking at Declan he saw some wires through the jacket. He had the bomb strapped to him. The young detective had an idea.
"Look can I just have my daughter call someone to come get her? I don't want her mother to worry" Jay said, he held Jordan's hand and squeezed it giving her some comfort.
"Fine" Declan told him.
Bending down he got to the teen's level. "Jo, I want you to go to the conference room. I want you to call Uncle Hank and Uncle Tony. Tell them the electrician is coming he's at the house, he got wrapped up in something"
He so hoped the teen knew what he was getting at, if it was one thing Hank taught his daughter. Talk in code. Jordan nodded understanding.
"I understand daddy, please be careful" She said nervously.
"I will sweet girl, I'll come find you when I'm done" He kissed her head.
Jordan had run off to the conference room opening the door she saw Boden, Kelly, her father and Antonio. When Hank saw his daughter he immediately swept her up and held her close.
"My baby" He muttered in her hair.
"Daddy, Jay wanted me to tell you and Antonio something. He said the electrician is coming today, he's at the house, he got wrapped up in something" Jordan told her father.
"Electrician. He's talking about Declan. He's here. He's wrapped up in...oh no. He;'s got a bomb strapped to him" Antonio spoke.
"What do we do?" Kelly asked.
Back in the hallway, Declan unzipped the jacket showing the bomb. Jay and Casey saw it but remained calm.
"You don't have to do this ya know" Jay told him.
"Don't tell me what I have to do" Declan snarled at him.
"Declan he's right. What if I talked to the CFD for you? I could help you get your job back" Casey tried.
The younger man laughed. "It's too late for all that. You had a chance to help me and you didn't" He moved his thumb towards the button.
Coming up behind him were Hank, Boden, and Kelly. They moved slowly and cautiously. Kelly had moved a bit closer and got him from behind Casey went for Declan's hand and grabbed the detonator. Hank and Jay had pulled their guns.
"CPD asshole" Jay looked to Declan.
"If you twitch I'll blow your brains out" Hank warned him.
They pulled Declan up and arrested him, Jay had taken him out to the car. Hank had gotten light headed and dizzy.
"Hank you ok?" Casey asked.
Before the older Sergeant could reply he had thrown up a bit then passed out, they had surrounded him.
"Gabby! Brett!" Casey called.
The two paramedics came running to see Hank passed out, Sylvie ran to get the bag while Gabby tended to him.
"Hank? Hank can you hear me" Gabby said to him.
He didn't respond, Sylvie came back with the bag and they got to work on him.
"Pulse is good and strong" Brett spoke.
"Could be something from the explosion" Gabby looked at her.
"Maybe a concussion or something?"
"We'll see, let's transport him to Med"
Jordan went out to look for her father; she saw that they were putting him on the gunnery. Her eyes went wide again. "Daddy!"
As fast as she could she ran over Antonio had tried to keep her back. They transported Hank to Med. Antonio wasted no time in going to his car with Jordan and followed the ambulance with the lights and sirens.
"Is my dad gonna be ok Tonio?" Jordan asked, scared.
"I'm sure he'll be fine sweetie," Antonio assured her.
In record time Gabby and Brett arrived with Med, they were met by Will.
"Hank, Hank. It's Will. Can you hear me" The older Halstead looked at the older man's eyes.
Hank had let out a groan as he came around. "Where...am I?"
"You're at Chicago Med. You passed out"
"Wha….Jordan? Where's Jo?"
"I don't know yet, someone is probably bringing her"
He tried to sit up but Will laid him back down. "Until you get checked out I need you to relax"
"Not till I know where Jo is"
"Antonio is bringing her. They were right behind us" Gabby told the worried father.
"See she's coming" Will says.
The older man had given up and let Will treat him, Hank had a concussion from the explosion when he had hit his head when he landed.
Antonio and Jordan rushed in, Jordan in the front. Will had seen them, the teen ran to the older Halstead. He got to her level.
"He's in trauma 3 resting if you wanna see him" Will told her before she could ask.
She smiled and kissed his cheek and ran to the room. Antonio smiled and went to him. "How is he Will?"
"Stubborn as hell but he'll be fine. He has a concussion" Will looked to the senior detective. "We'll keep an eye on him if everything looks good he should be able to go"
"Thanks"
Jordan was in the room her father was in. He was resting when he heard someone enter the room. Opening an eye he smiled seeing his little girl. Wasting no time the teen went to her father, she carefully climbed onto the bed.
"Are you ok daddy?" Jordan asked her father worriedly.
The older father smiled and brushed her hair back. "I'm just fine sweetheart"
"I saw you passed out..I didn't know.."
Wrapping his arms around her he pulled her close. "I'm just fine baby. I'm not going anywhere for a long time. Now about you running into that burning building"
"I'm sorry"
"Jordan that was very dangerous and reckless. You could have gotten killed and you could have gotten a lot of people into trouble because of that"
"I was scared I lost you"
"I understand you were scared but don't you ever and I mean ever do something like that again"
"I won't. I promise"
"That's my girl" He kissed her head.
The 51 crew came to see how Hank was, Gabby went to them. "Hank's fine, he has a concussion. Jordan is with him now"
When they went to the room they peeked in, Hank was resting with his arms wrapped firmly and protectively around his daughter. Jordan was curled into his father's chest. They smiled, they had decided to leave them to rest after the hell of a day they had.
