It had been a normal day in the city of Chicago. Young Jordan Voight had been at school one day, she was in study hall doing some catch up work. A loud bell rang, breaking her from her thoughts she solved her books in her backpack and went to her next class which had been chemistry. The young teen was the first in class her teacher hadn't been there yet.
Jordan had been the first to show, the last to leave class. It gave her a few minutes of peace to get ready mentally. As she prepared herself someone had quietly come in and bashed her over the head knocking her out, when she fell the side of her head hit the desk and she ended up getting a small cut. The young Voight laid on the floor as the person walked around bending to her level getting her finger prints on a few things, dropping them by her and going to one of the tables turning on a burner setting a fire.
Within minutes the classroom was on fire, the person walked out leaving Jordan. All the fire alarms started ringing and the sprinkles wouldn't go off.
Over at FireHouse 51 it had been a quiet day not many calls, everyone had been enjoying the quiet when the alarms went off about a school fire when they heard the address they all froze.
"That's Jordan's school," Cruz said, nervously.
"Let's move," Casey spoke with force.
He, Kelly and Boden were all first heading to their vehicles, after they had all been loaded up. All of firehouse 51 had been on the move speeding through the streets lights and sirens blaring loudly. They knew Hank was most likely on scene if he wasn't already.
When they arrived on scene just like any other normal fire scene, it was loud, crazy, chaotic, a bunch of people scattered all over coughing harshly from the smoke. The fire was damn near out of control. Wasting no time Boden had taken command of the scene, he sent the squad and a few members of truck in to search for any other victims inside. When looking around nobody had spotted Jordan, that had worried Mouch when he hadn't seen his goddaughter.
"Chief, I don't see Jordan anywhere. You don't think she could..could be inside do you?" Mouch asked nervously.
"We'll find her Mouch" Boden assured his friend. He then pulled his radio to his mouth. "Squad 3, truck 81 report"
"There's a lot of smoke Chief, so far nobody's on the first floor" Otis came on.
"Truck is moving to second floor Chief" Casey came on next.
"Squad is heading to the third floor" Kelly came on. "Hey Chief, can we find out which class Jordan was in before this started? Maybe we'll have a better chance of finding her if she's in here"
"I'll find out for you Severide" Boden told his Squad Lieutenant.
Before Boden could look at Mouch for the answer a car sped up on scene, it was no other than Hank's SUV. He got out in a rush and tried to run inside only to get stopped by Boden.
"Hank, I can't let you in there. That fire is out of hand" Boden told the Intelligence Sergeant.
"What if Jordan's in there? Has anyone seen her?" Hank asked worriedly.
"She's not accounted for out here so we may think she's inside"
That made Hank try to get by Boden only to get pulled back by the chief and Mouch along with Herrmann.
"Hank, can you think of the class that Jordan would be in right now?"
The older man's mind was shooting over a thousand miles an hour trying to think and process everything.
"Hank we're running out of time, we need to know. What class?"
"Today she had Chemistry. She said something about a big test today"
Boden grabbed his radio. "Squad 3, Truck 81, listen up. Look in any and all Chemistry classrooms. That's where Jordan maybe"
"Copy that Chief"
Kelly, Joe, and the rest of the squad were on the third floor searching all the classrooms they had all been empty. Cruz had gotten to one and the door was locked. Inside was Jordan laying on the floor unconscious, her skin was covered in black smoke.
The teen was very slowly coming around. Her vision was blurry and it took a few minutes for her vision to clear. The first thing she saw was the ceiling of the classroom, the room was a bright reddish orange color. Black smoke filled the air. She had started coughing harshly when a gust of smoke hit her and she tried to get out. Her head hurt like hell.
Her vision was still blurry and getting clouded by the black smoke that was starting to thicken. She fell between two desks as she tried to crawl to the door. The smoke was beginning to be too much for her to handle not to mention her head.
"H-help. Help!" She cried weakly.
"Fire department call out!" Came Cruz's voice.
"Joe? Joe! I'm here!"
"Jordan! Hang out kiddo!"
"Hurry! I...I" She coughed harshly again. "Can't….breathe!"
It took a moment till the door was busted open by Cruz and Kelly the two rushed over to her and helped her up. They carried her down the flights of stairs, she had kept coughing from all the smoke she had inhaled.
"Almost there sweetie" Kelly told her.
"Kelly..I..I don't feel so.. good"
"Hang on we're almost out Jo" Joe told her.
By the time they reached the doors of the school and got out, there was a loud explosion from the top of the building and the two men surrounded and shielded the teen's body so no glass would fall on her. A second explosion came about. It was smaller but enough for everyone to pull back.
"That's it I'm calling it, squad 3, truck 81, everyone that's still inside get out of there now. I repeat, get out of there" Boden told his men.
"On our way Chief"
Kelly and Joe carried the unconscious teen over. "Medic! Medic!"
Gabby and Brett ran over with a stretcher, Hank followed behind the two women. Once the stretcher was stopped and it was held steady in place Kelly and Cruz placed the teen on it and the two women began to work on it. First thing they had to do was put an oxygen mask on her. Gabby checked her lungs with the stethoscope.
"She has smoke inhalation, who knows how much she inhaled from her time inside" Gabby spoke.
"Is she gonna be alright?" Hank asked worriedly.
"Hank, you've gotta give us a chance to work. But most likely yes, she's gonna need oxygen for a while to clear her lungs. We're taking her to Med. You riding with?"
"Without a doubt"
The teen started to come to again as they began taking her to the ambulance. Her eyes fluttered open.
"D...Da..Dad" She mumbled.
"I'm right here sweetheart" Hank told her.
"My...my head...no...no pain meds. No meds"
"I promise"
"Jo, honey did you hit your head when you fell?" Brett asked.
"Hit...I felt...something hit me and it...it went black"
"Jo, was anyone in the room with you when the fire started?" Gabby asked.
"It was..just me.. Mr. Drake always gets...coffee before class"
"Alright no more questions" Hank told them, he eyed them.
There was no possible way his daughter could have set this fire. Jordan may have acted out and done many things. But setting a fire? No possible way. Not in this lifetime or the next. They loaded the teen into the ambulance and they took off for Med, Brett drove while Gabby stayed in the back.
Jordan still seemed a bit out of it from the blow to the head, Gabby kept the oxygen mask on her. Hank couldn't help but eye Gabby. The female Dawson was used to the intimidation looks from Hank, they no longer scared or bothered her. If she was anything like her brother she knew how to handle Hank. Pissed off or not.
"Whatever it is you wanna say Hank, just say" Gabby says, moving around trying to make sure Jordan is stable.
"What's with the questions earlier?" Hank asked bluntly. "Are you trying to insinuate that Jordan set this fire?"
"I'm not trying to insinuate anything, I'm trying to get the facts together"
"Facts for what?"
"Hank, I'm not doing this here and now. It's not the time or the place for it"
"Jordan may have been through a lot, she may have done a lot of things. But she would never resort to arson or anything remotely like this"
"I didn't say she would"
Before another word could get spoken they arrived at Med, Hank turned his attention to his daughter who was being unloaded and taken inside. Connor had begun looking her over and checked her eyes.
"Pupils dilated, let's get her a head CT and MRI to rule anything out" Connor spoke.
Once again Jordan was coming too. "Where...Where am I?"
"Jo, it's Connor can you hear me sweetheart?"
"My...head"
"Did you hit your head on anything?"
"I think something did hit me"
"Do you know what it was?"
She shook her head weakly. "No...no meds Con..Connor. No meds"
"No meds. We're going to get you upstairs for your head CT and MRI to see if there's anything wrong with your head"
She nodded weakly before she could react. Jordan had started seizing.
Meanwhile
Back over at the school the remaining members of intelligence had arrived and the fire was just about put out. Water was still being put on the building in case it had any extra hot spots and another fire sparked.
Antonio and the others walked over, he shook hands with Boden. "What happened here Chief"
"We just got the fire put out. They were just about to go inside and check it out but it looks like the fire came from the third floor. Once it's safe and stable to go in I'm gonna send them in to do overhaul and check for anything"
"Where is Jordan?" Erin asked, trying to keep the fear out of her voice.
"Taken to Med. They said she had smoke inhalation, she mentioned something hitting her on the back of the head" Kelly answered.
Soon they had been told the scene was safe to check and everyone went inside. Kelly, Casey, Antonio, Jay and Erin all went to the third floor where Jordan was found. Erin was trying to control her emotions. The thought of losing her sister in a fire scared the living hell out of her. She felt a gentle squeeze on her shoulder and looked back to see Jay.
Once they had gotten to the room, the room was burnt to a crisp. The air still smelled and reeked of the smoke. They all looked around, using a flashlight Kelly pointed between the two desks.
"That's where Cruz and I found her," Kelly said.
Snapping on a pair of gloves Antonio went and found Jordan's torched and burnt backpack. "Here's Jo's stuff. Anyone else in here Kelly?"
"No just her. Boden asked Hank where she'd be, he said Chemistry. She had a big test"
"I don't know why she'd be in today. I thought she'd stay home" Erin spoke.
"Why do you say that?" Casey asked.
"It's Justin's birthday. Since he died she doesn't wanna do anything, she stays home"
Antonio found something they had looked like bottles, the plastic melted and was too burnt to tell. Next to them he found matches, a small electric lighter. Kelly and Casey went to the lab tables they saw two burners tipped over and what looked like paper burnt around it and next to them were bottles of liquid.
"What the hell" Kelly says looking at them.
"What?" Casey asked his friend.
"Sulfuric acid and sodium chlorate. Look at this" He pointed to what looked like lines on the table. "It looks like someone poured the acid and the chlorate together lit this and boom fire insistently"
"And if Jordan was the only one in here.." Casey trailed off.
"Woah hold on. There's no way Jordan would resort to arson. She would never do that" Erin snapped in defense.
"Erin calm down," Jay tells his partner.
"You all can't believe Jordan would do this"
"We don't wanna believe she did it, we know she wouldn't" Antonio spoke, trying to defuse the situation.
"Then what do we make of this?"
"Either Jordan was set up or" Casey didn't wanna finish.
"Or Jordan snapped and set this fire" Kelly finished. "Which means we gotta work fast and find who did this otherwise this will fall on Jordan and she'll go to jail for a crime she didn't commit"
