"You know" I say gazing upon the twinkling lights of the city, "We are all supposed to be created equal, the only thing separating us being our drive, the motivation to reach higher." I continue as I slowly stand up, idly playing with the loose end of the bandage wrapped around my left arm.

"Well, in that case, what about those of us created without drive? whose only motivation was ripped from our hands? Were we created equal to the other? Or is it our fault that we were born this way?" I turn my head looking at the spectral figure of a young woman sitting at the edge of the rooftop, lazily swinging her legs, her beautiful black and green dyed hair swaying in the wind.

I walk closer to the memory reaching for the carton of cigarettes laying on the railing.

"You never did like it when I smoked, did you? I hope you can forgive me for this one last time…"

A sad smile on my lips as the snick of a lighter sounds in the night. the flame illuminating the rooftop in a warm orange glow.

"If our story was written,"

I take a deep drag, letting the nicotine fill my lungs.

"Then it would surely be,"

I stand up and turn around, Gazing upon the spot I wished was occupied one last time. as I fall backwards off the edge.

"A Tragedy"

"Well aren't you just a tragic little thing." A voice echoes throughout the darkness that envelops my mind. "Now now, did you think I would let you end your suffering that easily? No, you will keep going. And in the end I will have what is rightfully mine."

As my mind clears and I am able to process the voice booming painfully inside my skull 'Wait, Painfully? That can't be right, pain is for those amongst the living. How can I be alive?' My thoughts in turmoil, I open my eyes to try and get my bearings. 'AGH Holy fuck that is BRIGHT!' Only to immediately shut them once the immense bright light blinds me.

"Don't worry my little spider, you are far from alive" I get pulled from my thoughts by the voice once more, this time it has a mocking tone to it. "I have decided to pluck you from the stream so to say, you are going to be put into another world to continue with your journey. And since I am not a cruel benefactor I shall grant you a gift of sorts, one I believe you are quite familiar with from your obsession with reading." my eyes adjust as the voice of my 'Benefactor'? continues on, allowing me to make out the shape of a tall slender shape clad in black, a hint of ivory white peeking out from underneath the hood that adorns its head. The beings entire figure excluding a presence unlike any I could have ever fathomed before this moment, this being, it feels like death, destruction, decayinfinityvoideverythingnothing. I quickly avert my eyes as I feel my head pulsating and the vessels within my eyes bursting, the inability to comprehend the being standing before me becoming clear to me with every passing nanosecond leading towards my entire being breaking from within.

"Now now my little spider, it is too soon for you to gaze upon me. Why you almost erased your consciousness just now" The being giggled "Luckily I did not go through the hassle of removing you from the flow of souls just to let you erase yourself so I will fix the damage caused to you from your carelessness before i place you into your new world."

'New world? What are they talking about? Did I get placed into some shitty isekai novel?' I can't help but wonder when I am able to keep a thought for more than a microsecond, my being restored more the longer the being talked until the only thing remaining being a dull ache and an instinctual fear of remaining in its presence any longer.

"You are closer than you might think, little spider. I am going to give you a system like those used so often in fanfictions that you were partial to while you were alive, then I will send you into a world you are going to be familiar with, but it wouldn't be fun if you knew what awaited you, sooo I am going to mix things up a bit. not to worry, you will be able to survive, my goal isn't to expend all this effort just to kill you once more, in that case i might as well not have bothered with it in the first place. No, you will survive, and once you get accustomed to your situation I believe that you are going to quite enjoy this journey I have put you on. Now be on your way little spider, I look forward to seeing the web of despair you spin in the future."

I hardly have time to register what the being says before I feel my entire being fade from the plane where I was, presumably being transported to this new world I am being sent to, well then, let's not disappoint. this world will fall and I will finally have my rest. Beware of the one who has lost all with nothing more to gain. the one whose only wish is to reach the rest that has been denied.
