Chapter 8: Attack
Shadow was accustomed to the feeling of using Chaos Control. The squeezing sensation was almost nonexistent to him and Knuckles, both of whom were more in touch with the Chaos Emeralds than the rest of the group. Sonic was used to it, but it was still unpleasant to him. Amy and Rouge however, had very little experience with being teleported. They spluttered and had to muffle coughs as they reappeared in the docking bay of Eggman's ship. Omega, being a robot, felt no discomfort whatsoever. As the group took in the dark surroundings of the empty docking bay, Shadow reached into his quills, confirming his Chaos Emerald was still there, and drew his pistol. His eyes roamed the darkness for any sign of motion.
After ensuring that there was no immediate threat, Shadow motioned them through the door. Omega turned his claws into guns, but refrained from firing until he identified a target. Shadow took point, sweeping the barrel of his pistol across the corridor ahead of them. With no threats detected, Shadow led the strike force of mobians deeper into the ship. As Shadow peeked around the next corner, a flash of light reflecting off metal caused him to pull his head back. Raising his hand, the ebony hedgehog signaled to Omega. Nodding, the robot turned the corner, his claws had morphed into guns and he aimed them down the hallway. After several tense moments, Omega lowered his arms without firing.
"Clear." Shadow moved around the corner, pistol up. After verifying that there was no present danger, Shadow turned to the group.
"We are near the bridge. Here's the plan. Sonic, I want you to come with me. Amy, Tails. Do you think you can hack Eggman's computer system if you can get close enough?"
"Yes. It would likely take anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour." Tails confirmed.
"You may not have an hour. Knuckles, Rouge, and Omega. You are going to have the funnest job. If you see a Badnik, kill it. As violently as you want," You could practically see a massive grin on Omega's robotic visage. "Do you all understand your assignments?" Shadow asked.
"Why am I going with Tails?" Amy asked, obviously wanting to be near Sonic at all times.
"Well I can't have our resident tech wizard hacking a computer with no defence, can I?" Shadow responded, and Amy nodded thoughtfully. Out of the corner of his eye, Shadow noticed Omega motioning at the glass then to his gun. Shadow nodded. This communication went unnoticed by everyone except Rouge, who hid a smile. Shadow took a deep breath before speaking.
"Go."
Shadow and Sonic waited a few moments. Knuckles, Omega and Rouge took off, rounding the corner. Shadow heard Omega's rotary cannons whir to life. Before long, the rattle of machine gun fire echoed through the ship. Klaxons and flashing red lights were set off. Sonic and Shadow moved out. The two hedgehogs accelerated towards Eggman's control room, smashing open the door.
"Shadow? Sonic? We had a deal!" Eggman exclaimed
"This isn't from G.U.N." Shadow stated, Eggman becoming livid.
"No matter." The rotund doctor cried. "You cannot hope to win this time!" Eggman reached over and struck a button, sitting down in his chair. A massive explosion of metal and wires erupted from the ground, throwing the two hedgehogs back. Shadow climbed to his feet and drew his pistol, putting three rounds into the back of a nearby Egg Pawn.
"Shadow," Shadow turned and looked at Sonic. "Where's Metal?" Sonic asked.
"Shit." Looking around, Shadow could confirm that Metal Sonic had yet to be seen. Omega's guns rattled on, tungsten rounds chewing through ranks of Badniks. Rouge tossed grenades into large groups of Eggman's robots. Knuckles pulverised anything bearing Eggman's logo.
Turning his focus back to Eggman, Shadow looked up at the cloud of dust that was now settling; revealing a machine that made Sonic's blood run cold. Fifty feet tall, light glinting off of gun barrels and missile launchers. Chains of giant ammunition feeding into massive cannons mounted on the shoulders. A humanoid mech. Powerful hydraulics hidden by plates of metal armour. Yellow highlights accentuated edges of the jagged red metal plating. Hands that were twelve feet wide with fingers that could crush a semi-truck with ease. A wrist mounted blade slid from Eggman's creation's sheath. The blade itself was twenty feet long. The other hand configured itself into a cannon. It pointed at Sonic and fired. A blue projectile slammed into the ground where Sonic had been, the cobalt hero had rolled out of the way. Metal Sonic rose from the crater.
"Sonic the Hedgehog detected. Mission: Neutralize Sonic the Hedgehog," Metal's voice carried a menacing tone. "Mission: Commence."
As Metal Sonic finished his sentence, he tore towards Sonic.
"Don't worry about me guys! I'll take care of him!" Sonic called to them as he dodged Metal Sonic.
Shadow acknowledged Sonic's call with a nod before facing down Eggman.
"Team Dark, to me!" Shadow called. Gunshots rang out as Omega mowed a path to Shadow, flanking him. Rouge flew over the heads of Egg Pawns and alighted next to Omega. The trio stared down Eggman's giant mech.
"This is the Egg Decimator! Prepare to meet your match!" Eggman cried. The Egg Decimator raised it's arm, weapons lighting up as power flooded to them.
"Sensors indicate a surge of Chaos Energy, as well as a new kind of energy! Combing possibilities...confirmed," Omega stated, having to break his sentence off to dodge a flurry of rounds fired from the Egg Decimator's gun arm. "Energy detected belongs to Mephiles the Dark!"
"So he's powering the mech?" Shadow asked, firing a Chaos Spear at the massive robot. The bolt of energy did minimal damage to the armor.
"Yes," Omega confirmed. "Weapon systems online."
"Omega, open fire." Shadow commanded.
"Affirmative," Omega's arms turned into rotary cannons, multiple gun barrels sprouting from his forearms and chest. "Opening fire."
Author's Note: To anyone wondering, I did watch Transformers: Rise of the Fallen recently, so I based the Egg Decimator off of a Decepticon.
