Bonds of Blood
Elena waited until both Salvatore's were gone before removing the dagger from Rebekah. It was unfortunate that she had dagger Rebekah, but it was necessary. Rebekah was a wildcard that she needed out of the way until the Salvatore's enacted their idiotic plan.
Elena had a plan of her own, and it was pretty much the exact opposite of Stefan and Damon's. Honestly, even if her goal had been the same as theirs, she wouldn't been that stupid about it. Their plan was almost nonsensical. They brought Mikael back, a complete wild card, and hoped that they could get him to kill Klaus and then disappear again. It was insanely stupid. Elena only participated in it thus far because it gave her the opportunity to take care of the loose end that was Mikael.
Once Elena removed the dagger from Rebekah, she uttered a spell to expedite the process of waking the original up. Yes, a spell. She was a witch, a fact none of her friends nor her 'enemies' knew. They underestimated her, and that worked for her. It allowed her to manipulate things to her advantage. Unfortunately, tonight, she would have to give up that advantage.
Elena watched as the color began to return to Rebekah at an agonizingly slow pace. "Come on, I don't have all night."
Suddenly, Rebekah's eyes popped open. She sat up and then glared at Elena. "You little bitch!"
Elena watched her get up and then lunge at her before raising her hand. She sent her into a chair within seconds and then uttered a spell to hold her there. "I can see you're a bit upset, but do try to reign in your emotions. We have little time for it."
Rebekah stared at her in shock for a minute. Elena had just used magic on her, but Elena wasn't a witch, was she? She'd never shown any affinity for magic before tonight. "How did you do that? Let me go immediately or I'll rip your throat out!"
"Dear, I suggest you listen to your own words before you say them out loud. You do not want to sound like an imbecile," Elena said as though she were speaking to a child.
"Who are you? You're not Elena," Rebekah said.
Elena smiled. "Of course, I am. I'm just much more than that as well. I let people see what they want to see. It makes it easier to outmaneuver them. You wanted to see a weak little human. Most vampires do. It makes them feel superior," she said before going over and kneeling in front of her. "Vampires are such egotistical little things, especially you and your siblings. And there's nothing wrong with that to an extent. You wield a lot of power, and you ought to be aware of that, but there's something you should remember. Vampires were created by witches."
Rebekah glared at her. "So, witches are the superior species and we should bow down to you? Is that what you're saying?"
"No, darling. See, I have nothing against vampires, other than the fact that your egos have made you a bit stupid, or in the case of the Salvatore's, a lot stupid. But I digress. We have much to discuss and not a lot of time to do it. Niklaus is in town and Mikael and the Salvatore's have gone to kill him," Elena said.
Rebekah frowned slightly. She didn't think Elena had ever referred to her brother by his full name before. No one did. Only family ever did. However, it was a trivial matter. What was more concerning was the fact that Elena seemed bothered by the fact that Nik might end up dead. "That's what you wanted. It was your plan."
"No, it was Damon's plan. I just let him think it was what I wanted. I told you, I let people think what they want to think," Elena said.
"The Salvatore's don't know that you're a witch, do they?" Rebekah asked.
Elena smirked. "Of course not. That would take away the appeal, wouldn't it?"
"Because they want a weak human," Rebekah said, repeating the other woman's own words. She was honestly pretty astonished. She clearly never knew this girl. Now, she hadn't known the doppelganger for long, but she thought she had her pegged. Of course, she supposed that was Elena's plan the whole time. "Who are you?"
"That is a question for another time. We are on a time crunch. Right now, we have to go save your brother," Elena said.
Rebekah stared at her in disbelief. "Why would you want that? You convinced me to help you kill him."
"I never had any intention of that, and I doubt you would've done it either. That's why I had to dagger you," Elena said.
"What? That doesn't make any sense," Rebekah said. If Elena didn't want Nik dead, why would it matter if Rebekah didn't go through with it in the end? Why dagger her for that?
"You would've warned him. I couldn't have that. You were a wild card, my dear. I hate wild cards. The last wild card I had ended with someone I cared about getting killed and a ripper with no humanity on the loose," Elena said in an irritated tone. That was why when she made a plan, she typically accounted for every variable. She didn't like surprises. Surprises were wild cards, and wild cards had the potential to destroy a plan. "I needed to ensure that the rest of the cards were in play before I released you. That way I could make sure you would behave."
"Stop talking to me as though I am a child!" Rebekah snapped.
"Stop behaving like one," Elena countered. "Now, as I said, we have little time. We need to get the Lockwood mansion. If I let you go, will you behave?"
Rebekah gave her a withering glare. "Even if I were to believe you wanted to save Nik, why should I help you. He killed my mother!"
"Because no matter what he's done, he's still your brother. You'll never be able to let him die. Believe me. If Mikael killed him because of your actions, you'd never forgive yourself. You don't turn your back on family, not real family. And truth be told, I don't actually need your help. I can do this myself and leave you here to wait," Elena said. Her reasons for saving him were similar. She wouldn't let him die, but he would suffer the consequences for the things he did. But she would decide those consequences, not a couple of adolescent vampires and a sadistic monster who called himself a father.
"Then why even remove the dagger?" Rebekah asked.
"Because you deserve to see what happens next. You deserve to watch as I rid you of the plague that is that monster that you call a father," Elena said in a cold tone.
"You're going to kill Mikael," Rebekah realized in shock.
"I'm going to neutralize him once and for all. How that happens, I'll let you see for yourself. Can I assume you're interested?" Elena asked.
Rebekah remembered every single time Mikael put his hands on her or her siblings. She remembered more than once him nearly killing Nik for trivial offenses. She remembered him destroying entire cities to hunt them down. Elena had said that one didn't turn their back on family, but Mikael didn't count as that. "I'll do as you wish if you promise Nik will survive."
"You have my word," Elena said before releasing the spell and standing up. "Let's go. There's no time to waste."
Rebekah stood up. "Tell me one thing first. Why do you want to help us after all we've done to you?"
Elena smirked. "It's like I said, dear. You don't walk away from family."
