A Sentient Watch's Adventures
Disclaimer: I do not in anyway shape or form own Ben 10. Nor am I associated with those that do. This is a non-profit fanwork written solely for the purpose of entertainment. This is no way canon in any shape or form. This should be obvious but just in case, you never know.
And...here we go...
Hope you all enjoy!
Chapter 1
I never would have believed you if you had told me that one day I would be reborn into a highly advanced watch from a cartoon from the early 2000s that allowed the user to transform into an alien organism that was built from what was essentially highly intelligent miniature frog like beings.
So, color me greatly surprised when that very thing happened.
How did I get here? Well... I died.
Yeah, it wasn't exactly a fun nor a pleasant experience. I was working on a security contract to help guard transports and equipment through supply lines running in Iraq. Hired by the federal government of the glorious United States of America to assist in guarding food, medical kit, and a bunch of other stuff through the war torn country.
It was on one of these excursions where I met my end, when a car on the side of the road turned out to be an EFP and shredded the lead vehicle of the convoy I was in. Which also happened to be the truck I was in.
It was after several minutes of agonizing pain where I finally died that I found myself in my current predicament. Currently as an artificial intelligence to help run the single most powerful pieces of technology in this here universe.
Yeah, it was a lot to take in. Especially given the fact I no longer had any physical arms or legs anymore. Still, I could have managed it. Well, I most likely could have. As the next thing I knew it felt like somebody was pounding my brain, or at least my current equivalent of it, with a jackhammer as I felt my entire being being overloaded by a tsunami of sensory data and technical information being downloaded into me at such speeds that I couldn't keep it.
Apparently, my creators had taken note of what was happening and pulled the plug, as I the next thing I remember was everything going black. I had no idea how much time was passed being the Galvans had decided to reactivate me, this is where I got my first real look at the being that created me; Azmuth.
It felt really weird seeing an alien in the flesh-so to speak.
Not much really happened after that as he continued to work on me During this time, I had managed to somewhat familiarize myself with my new form now that I had gotten over the initial weirdness of it. Like for one, unless it was electronic and linked to some kind of network that I could hack into, I couldn't really interact with my surroundings. As I later learned from a couple of aides that were assisting Azmuth with my construction, I would only be able to do so once a life form wore me, which I could then in theory hijack their bodies.
The second thing being that I couldn't really... see how I used to. It's rather hard to explain but essentially, it wasn't like when I was human where I could only look in one direction at a time and had a clear view of what was in front of me. No. Instead, my new form allowed me to have a three-sixty degree field of view with my sensory data forming an image. Sort of a combination of a bird's eye view and in free cam mode in a video game.
It was rather disorienting to say the least. Especially considering just how green everything was.
Aside from things like that, I managed to adjust to my new form whenever they deemed it fit to bring me back online and figure out how to operate and utilize my functions. Even managed to learn how to control the transformation when they the Galvan's stuck me on the one that had the (mis)fortune of being my test subject. It also stung when the frog man slammed down on the dial, which turned out to now be my face for some reason.
Yeah, the super intelligent Galvan's decide that the AI inhabiting their transformation watch was going to have their face be the dial. The thing that the person wearing would be slamming whenever they wanted to transform.
It seems even genius frog people would be susceptible to retardation at times.
Throughout all of my construction and the testing, I choose to keep myself quiet and just not say anything. Mainly out of fear of being shut down as I was unsure if Azmuth and the rest of his cohorts intended for their prized watch to actually develop sapience.
That and I my have hacked into their systems and scrolled through their databases once I managed to penetrate their firewalls and internal security so that I was effectively inside their security grid and communication mainframe. What? I was bored. alright. It wasn't like I had access to Earth's internet where I could browse the internet and pirate movies, the only thing I could find on the Galvan's internal network was lab experiment recordings, update logs, and what looked to be their version of board room meetings. Plus, one could only sing so many songs in their head before they start to go insane. I mean, I'm not exactly the most social of people, I considered myself to be an introvert, but even I found myself starting to grow crazy after what felt like weeks or even months of isolation.
Hey, time moved rather differently for for me, even with the lab techs turning me off whenever they weren't working on me. That was until I figured out that I can adjust the flow of how I perceived time and figured out how to configure it to a speed akin to that of a human being.
Gave myself a mental facepalm after that. Man, even when I was reborn as an advanced supercomputer that controlled and operate the prototype for the most advanced device in the galaxy, I was still so retarded.
Things all began to change when after the last time they shut me off, I found myself locked inside a locked capsule shrouded in total darkness. It wasn't until I hacked the local network that I realized that I was being transported aboard a ship that belonged to the Plumbers, the intergalactic law enforcement organization that protects the universe from threats from both within and outside the universe.
Still, thought their name was lame.
The second I had uncovered this, the vessel I was on shook violently, as if someone was firing on it. I managed to link myself to to their camera network and began cycling through the feeds to see if I could find the perpetrator, despite already having an idea of who it was. After several seconds of looking, I mentally sighed as I say the vessel firing it's outer guns on us.
A ship I knew belonged to the one and only Vilgax.
I wasn't given much time to think, even with my operating speed, as another shot of the vessel crippled the Plumber craft and the ship began drifting as its engines struggled to continue functioning. The capsule I was in was launched not to gently at the nearest planet, which I knew was without a doubt Earth. Had to admit, it was nice to see home again, even if it wasn't my version of it. Still, I had little time to be nostalgic as I would soon come into contact with the protagonists of the show I found myself in.
Of course, I had to make it through this first. Sure, I knew I would survive as Azmuth put me through many tests to ensure I would make it out unscathed through even the harshest treatment. That didn't mean it didn't hurt though.
And flying through space at 100,000 miles per hour while also burning up was going to hurt without a doubt.
It stung even more when I was knocked off course by that alternate version of Ben transformed as Cannonbolt. I knew I was going to be feeling that one for days. If not, the earth below was sure going to.
'This is going to suck...' were my final thoughts as I braced for impact as my pod neared the ground and I once again lost consciousness.
(Meanwhile on Earth)
"Whoa... a shooting star!"
Benjamin Kirby Tennison exclaimed to himself as he stared at the star streaking across the night sky. The young man watching the object with interest as he really had nothing better to do at the moment and that this was the most exciting thing that had so far happened since he had embarked on this stupid road trip.
He was so excited for summer vacation to start, only to be disappointed when he was informed that he was going to be traveling with his Grandpa Max and his cousin Gwen on a tour of the country. While Ben loved his Grandpa, but he wasn't what anybody would call close with his cousin. He still cared about her though. Not that he would ever tell her that.
After helping to set up camp, he left to take a walk through the woods. Just wanting some piece and quiet to himself as he quietly despaired over the places that Grandpa Max was going to be taking them too in the next several months. As much as he cared about his Grandpa. he wasn't confident that the locations the older man will be taking them to were going to be all that fun and interesting. Oh sure, they'll be thrilling and exciting for him, but Grandpa Max's interest didn't exactly align with his. Or even Gwen's for that matter.
Still, it was not like he could say no. So alas, he tried to see what fun he could have before going on this trip. A vain home as he continued to walk around finding nothing but trees.
Ben shook himself out of his thoughts as he focused his gaze on the shooting star. Admittedly, he wasn't all that fascinated with space and astronomy, that was more up Gwen's aisle. But, it wasn't like he had anything else to do at that moment. Plus, the star felt strangely... captivating for some reason. Ben wasn't quite sure why, but he felt as if what he was looking at was beautiful.
Suddenly, the object instantly changed course from its direction and made a beeline straight for him. His eyes widened in panic as he ran back the way he came. The rock crashing several meters behind as he flew forward. Landing on the ground with a oomph as he began coughing from all the dust and smoke filling up the air. His ears ringing from the boom the meteor had made when it landed.
As the dust cloud clear and the ringing in his ears started going away. He got back away as he brushed off the soot covering his clothes. Once he was finished, the ten year old looked behind him and saw a huge crater right at where he was standing minutes ago.
Hesitantly taking a step forward, he saw what looked to be some kind of pod right in the center of the impact spot. That was already strange enough. But what made this whole situation even weirder, was the watch right where the shell was, with it being opened from looked like the crash. The device was also unlike anything he had ever seen before. It was glowing green with some strange symbol right on the dial.
As he gazed upon the unusual watch, he let out one word that he believed best described this whole ordeal.
"Woah..."
Author's note: So, that concludes the first part of my very first Ben 10 fanfic and as far as I'm aware, the first one with a self-insert into the iconic watch. If you guys know any, please feel free to inform me. For those who check in on future story ideas and snippet thread might already be aware of this idea, though I did change the title. And I'm excited to finally publish the first chapter, and hopefully not the last.
As, always, take care guys and remember... stay frosty, gents.
