A/N: I will be involving Lorelei in canon events more often, including changing some things up. Let me know what you think.
"You should have killed her when you had the chance." Monroe said.
"You're telling me." Was Nick's reply.
It was Friday night and Lorelei had been hanging out with Monroe when Nick arrived. This surprised Lorelei, as she was sure Nick was supposed to be having dinner with Juliette, Hank, and Hank's date. Apparently, the date had been cut short by a case. Nick had also found out that Hank's date was Adalind Schade, the hexenbiest who tried to kill Aunt Marie.
"So just warn him off her dude." Monroe told him, sitting beside Lorelei where she had been on the sofa.
"Yeah. I mean, you're his partner. He should trust your judgement." Lorelei added.
Nick looked at them. "Yeah well, I've tried. He won't listen to anything I have to say about her. You know plus, how do you tell your partner he's dating a witch?"
Monroe laughed. "You mean so he doesn't hate you. Not easy." He paused briefly. "But this is not normal. You don't date a hexenbiest lightly. And you break up with one at your own peril."
Nick frowned. "Could she have done something to him?"
Monroe nodded. "Hell yeah. That's what they do." Nick sighed and shook his head, starting to look angry. "Looks like someone took a bite out of the wrong apple dude. Classic witches brew. Mojo, juju, hocus pocus, booga bogga, whatever you want to call it. They've got some pretty potent concoctions that can seriously mess with your brain chemistry."
Nick sat down. "Well, that would explain it."
Lorelei cut in. "Is there any chance that she just likes Hank? And he likes her?"
Nick shook his head. "No. I don't think so. Adalind alluded to as much when we were talking." Lorelei nodded. Although she hadn't had many interactions with Hank, she did like the guy and didn't want anything to happen to him.
Monroe seemed to have an epiphany. "Rosalee would know about this. I could call her." He glanced at his watch. "Oh, she'll probably be asleep by now. Not that that ever bothered you." He said, taking a dig at Nick's habit of calling Monroe at all times of the night and day.
Nick stared at him. "Call her."
"It's got to be a potion of some kind." Rosalee said as she let them into the shop. "How else would a human fall in love with a hexenbiest? They're not exactly the loveable type."
"Kinda hot though." Monroe commented. Rosalee gave him a look. He shifted awkwardly and looked away. "I mean, if you go for that obviously hot thing. Cause, I don't."
Rosalee seemed to be a little placated by this. "Who's the hexenbiest?" she asked from her position on a ladder as she handed a book down to Nick before reaching for another.
"Adalind Schade." Nick told her.
"How long ago did this happen?"
"I'm guessing a couple of weeks." Was Nick's response.
Rosalee was silent. "About the time Freddy was killed." She said quietly. She grabbed another book and made her way down the ladder. "Let me check his sales books, see if she's been here. You guys keep looking."
She handed the book she was holding to Lorelei as she passed her.
"How many of these zaubertrank are there?" Monroe asked, opening the book he had, while Lorelei and Nick did the same with theirs.
"So zaubertrank means potion?"
"Yep."
"Wouldn't it just be easier to say potion?" Nick said with a slightly joking tone.
"Yep"
"Then why don't you just say that?"
Monroe glared at him. "Because it's so much more than that." He said, followed by something in German which Nick did not understand but Lorelei did. She smiled.
"Hey, I've got something. A shopping list somebody wrote from the day my brother died." Rosalee said, interrupting the men. She walked back over to them. "Couer diable, rot inguen, and essigblasse. These are three of the ingredients of a really dangerous recipe."
Nick looked concerned. "How dangerous?" he asked.
"From deeply love." Rosalee said, pausing slightly. "To deeply dead."
Oh shit, Lorelei thought to herself. Not good at all.
"It looks like the hexenbiest that tried to kill your aunt, has set her fangs on your partner now" Monroe said, his face more serious than Lorelei had ever seen before.
"Well, how do we cure that?" Lorelei asked Rosalee.
Rosalee looked a little panicked. "I'm not sure we can…it depends on how far along the emotional and physical relationship has gone. Too far and he's…" she trailed off.
"Toast?" Monroe offered.
Rosalee nodded. "Yeah."
"Ok, well, we have to do something." Nick insisted.
"There might be an antidote. But it would take me a while to find it. First, I have to find out which zaubertrank uses this recipe."
The four of them began looking through the books they had. When those books provided no answer, they moved on. Nick eventually headed home, as he had to work the next day. Monroe and Rosalee tried to insist Lorelei go home as well. Lorelei however insisted on staying. She hadn't had a chance to really be involved in wesen related stuff before. This was as close as Nick was probably going to let her get.
"It would help if I knew what I was looking for." Monroe stated.
"Any recipe with those ingredients." Rosalee told him.
"There's like thousand recipes in here." Monroe commented.
"Remember that cop who got poisoned?"
"Boil dude?" Monroe said with an awkward chuckle. "Yeah, never forgetting that.
"Sergeant Wu." Lorelei corrected him, from her position on the floor.
"Yeah, Sergeant Wu." Rosalee said. "Remember, I was saying, that it's like the boomerang effect that happens when someone ingests a potion meant for someone else."
Lorelei got up and joined the pair at the table. "And you think that someone else was Hank?" Lorelei said.
Rosalee nodded. "It makes sense, right?"
"Does anything make sense with a zaubertrank?" Monroe asked.
"Real love is hard to find." Rosalee said softly.
"Don't I know it." Monroe replied, just as softly.
Monroe may have missed it, but Lorelei didn't miss the look Rosalee gave him, or the look Monroe gave her. She smiled to herself and returned to the book she had been looking through.
The sun was starting to rise. The Grimm, the fuschbau, and the blutbad had been at it all night. Monroe had fallen asleep, curled up on a bench. Lorelei was sitting on the floor near Monroe's head. She had dozed off briefly but had woken up and got back into it. And then finally.
"I found it." Lorelei heard Rosalee say. "I found it. Come on Monroe, wake up."
Lorelei stood up, as Monroe sat up. "Where am I?"
Rosalee held out the book to them. "La mort pour l'amour."
"Death for love." Lorelei and Monroe interpreted at the same time.
"Oh shit." Lorelei added.
"I better call Nick." Monroe said getting up.
"Can we reverse it?" Lorelei asked Rosalee.
Rosalee nodded, although she looked a little unsure. "There should be an antidote." She also got up while looking at the book containing their answer. She turned around and started going through the shelves behind her.
Meanwhile, Monroe had reached Nick who was on his way. "Couer diable, rot inguen, and essigblasse, there all part of an obsession formula" Rosalee told Nick when he had arrived.
"The heart-sucking, brain mashing zaubertrank we were talking about." Monroe piped in.
"The spell was designed to cause obsessive behaviour." Rosalee continued. "The obsession becomes so great that the brain overloads, and the body literally shuts down."
"It could explain what happened to your…"
"Sergeant Wu." Nick finished for Monroe.
"His fever and lesions suggest that he got some of the zaubertrank meant for Hank. This is what I think he took." Rosalee showed Nick the book containing the zaubertrank.
Nick looked confused. "I thought you cured Wu."
"I just treated his symptoms." Rosalee told him.
A look of understanding crossed Nick's face. "Could it explain eating coins, paperclips…uh buttons?"
"Unfortunately, yes." She said, glancing at Monroe and Lorelei.
"How do we stop this?" Nick asked.
"There is an antidote.
"And if this works on Wu, could it cure Hank?"
"It should." Rosalee said, not sounding one hundred percent confident. "Yeah, no it should. I have all the ingredients. I just have to mix it." The more she spoke, the more confident she sounded.
Nick looked hopeful. "Well, let's do it."
Rosalee quickly pulled together everything she needed, directing the other three to help her gather the ingredients and tools she needed to create the antidote. As she was transferring one ingredient, some dropped on the table and seemed to eat away at it.
"Hey, look at that, multiple uses." Monroe said, clearly trying to cut the tension everyone was feeling.
Nick and Rosalee exchanged a look, while Lorelei rolled her eyes, a tender smile directed to her friend. "How do we get it in him?" Nick asked Rosalee.
"With a nez-soufflet." She answered. She picked up a strange looking device, that looked like it would have been at home in a medical museum. "You put these prongs into the victim's nostrils and push down on the plunger." She demonstrated for them.
"You know, I don't know Hank all that well, but how the hell are we going to convince him that this is something good for him?"
"We'll just see if it works first." Nick told him, looking tense. Lorelei moved over to Nick and gave his arm a comforting squeeze. He shot her a thankful look and wrapped his arm around her, giving her a brief hug before stepping away.
The four of them packed up and headed over to Wu's apartment. Nick knocked on the door and they waited.
"Hey Wu, its Nick." He called out.
"Nick? Is that you?" Came Wu's voice. He sounded close to the door.
Nick looked at the people with him, before continuing. "Yeah, open up the door man."
"Uhhh. I can't right now…I'm in the middle of dinner."
"What are you eating?" Nick asked, looking worried.
"Fibre." Was Wu's reply. They heard him start laughing, before it sounded like he choking.
"We gotta get in there." Lorelei said, looking at Nick. He nodded and had them step away from the door before he kicked it in.
They stepped in to find Wu was indeed choking on something. "Oh my god." Rosalee said. "Get him on the couch. I hope we're not too late." Her voice was panicked.
Nick and Monroe grabbed Wu and moved him over the nearby couch. While they were doing that, Lorelei helped Rosalee put the antidote into the nez-soufflet. Wu started coughing. "Alright, hold him down, hold him down." Rosalee said.
The other three followed her instructions, as she also directed them to pull Wu's head back. She then injected the antidote up his nostrils. Wu let out a large inhale and arched his back. He relaxed for a second before doing it again. Eventually he relaxed and started to wake up, spitting out what appeared to be the rug they found him on. He looked around at them in confusion. "Where'd you guys come from? Is this a dream?" Lorelei, Rosalee, Monroe and Nick looked at each other and Wu, trying to come up with something to tell him. "Why am I in my underwear?"
He quickly got up and hurried away, trying to cover himself. "I think…it worked." Monroe said, looking at the rest of them.
"Yeah, and fast." Rosalee said, looking relieved.
"Time to get it to Hank." Nick said, pulling his phone out of his pocket. He seemed to reach Hank however the call ended quickly.
"Where is he?" Rosalee asked.
"Adalind's." Nick answered. He shoved him phone is in pocket and started heading to the door. Their little group following him. And in no time at all, they pulled up near Adalind's house. As they got out of the car Monroe said "What if they're, like, in the middle of…. you know, I mean, this could get kind of awkward. I mean, Hank is one thing, but the hexenbiest, you don't want to get them riled up man, it could get ugly fast."
They followed Nick as he walked quickly. "We are bringing her down."
"Look, I'm not saying I'm against it, but you know that's going to be a pretty hard thing for a cop to explain, you know dead body and all. What about your partner, dude? What's he going to think when you gun down the woman, he's in love with?"
Nick looked at him, as they walked up the front steps. "Well, you got any better ideas, I'm listening. And I thought I told you to stay in the car." He shot toward Lorelei.
"If you'd just let me, think for a second…no I don't." Monroe admitted. Lorelei opted to keep her mouth shut.
They finally reached the front door, which was ajar. Nick pulled out his gun and stepped in first, calling out for Hank. They wandered down the hall, Nick still calling out for Nick. Eventually they found what appeared to be Adalind's bedroom and found Hank laying unconscious in the bed. Rosalee pushed past Nick and Monroe, rushing over to Hank's side.
"Are we too late?" Nick asked.
Rosalee checked Hank's pulse. "He's still alive." She said, letting out a small sigh of relief.
Nick holstered his gun and moved around to the other side of the bed. "Then why's he unconscious?"
Rosalee slowly lifted Hank's eyelid. "Oh my god." His eye was red. Rosalee stood back and looked at Monroe. "She altered the zaubertrank." She grabbed the book and started flipping through it. "Hank is still alive, but the antidote, it's useless now."
"But it worked on Wu." Monroe said.
"He didn't have sex with her."
"Oh god, that always complicates things, doesn't it?"
Nick started shaking Hank a little. "Hey, come on Hank, wake up man."
Rosalee intervened. "Nick! Nick, its not going to work. He can't. It's…. it's like he's in a coma, but its not physical, its mental. Its like his brain is locked."
Lorelei stepped closer. "There's gotta be a way to fix this, right?" she said, looking at Rosalee pleadingly. Nick would never forgive himself if Hank died.
"Possibly, if she used her own blood." Rosalee said, returning her gaze to Nick.
"What difference does that make?" Nick asked.
Rosalee glanced at the book. "The only way to break a blood zaubertrank is by killing the hexenbiest whose blood is in it."
They all looked at each other as Nick's phone started to ring. His expression had turned stony as he stood up. "Then I don't have a problem with that." He said, answering the phone. While he was talking to Adalind, Lorelei joined Rosalee and Monroe who were looking through the book.
Eventually, Nick hung up the phone looking pissed off, angrier than Lorelei could ever recall seeing him. "She's in for a surprise." He said, putting the phone in his pocket.
"Nick, you can't kill her." Rosalee told him, as Nick started walking towards the door.
"Yes, I can." He countered.
"It's not like that." Rosalee told him. "If you shoot her, she'll be dead but that won't bring your partner back. The only way you can break the hold she has on Hank is with the blood of a Grimm. With your blood." She said, holding the book out to him.
Nick glanced down at the book then back up at Rosalee. "So, Nick needs to figure out a way to get his blood into her?" Lorelei asked.
Rosalee nodded. "Correct."
"I'll come up with something." Nick said, as he started heading out the door again.
"Hang on, I'm coming with you." Lorelei said, following him.
Nick spun around. "No, you're staying here where it is safe."
Lorelei sighed. "Nick, I can help. I'm a Grimm too." She insisted.
"No," he shouted, and Lorelei stepped back slightly. Nick had never raised his voice to her before. He noticed and deflated slightly. Nick stepped towards her, taking her face in his hands. "I can't do, what I need to do if I am worrying about you. Please, stay here where it is safe."
Nick was almost pleading, not just with his voice but his eyes as well. Lorelei stared into his eyes for moment before sighing again. "Fine, I'll stay."
"Thank you." He said, pressing a kiss to her forehead. He looked to Monroe, and they seemed to have some kind of silent conversation. Monroe nodded; Nick nodded back before leaving.
Monroe came up to Lorelei and wrapped his arm around her shoulder. "He'll be ok. He's Nick." He said, holding her tight. Lorelei just nodded, burying her head into Monroe's chest. She hoped he was right.
While Nick went to face Adalind, the remaining three waited by Hank's beside. Monroe had taken to pacing the room. "He's gotta be with her by now. Right?" he asked, looking at Rosalee. He let out a heavy sigh and continued pacing, running his hands through his hair. "I should have gone with him."
Rosalee was sitting on a chair by the bed while Lorelei was on the floor beside her, resting her head on Rosalee's leg. The older woman had been stroking the top of Lorelei's head gently, trying to keep the younger woman calm.
"No, you shouldn't have." Rosalee told him calmly, yet forcefully. "He had to do this alone."
Monroe continued his pacing. "I mean, how do we know when it's over?"
Rosalee looked the unconscious man. "If Hank wakes up, then she's dead."
"And if Hank doesn't wake up?" Monroe asked, sounding as if he was on the way to hysterics.
Rosalee didn't answer, but when Lorelei looked up, she saw she was exchanging a look with Monroe. "I should have gone with him." Monroe said, returning to his pacing.
It wasn't long after that when Hank woke with a gasp. He looked around and saw the three of them there. "Are you ok Hank?" Lorelei asked, kneeling beside him to hand him a glass of water as Rosalee checked his pulse.
"Uh…yeah." Hank said slowly, looking at her weirdly. "What are you all doing here?"
The three interlopers exchanged looks. What the hell do they tell him?
"I gotta call Nick." Monroe said, pulling his phone out of his pocket. Lorelei looked at Monroe expectantly, hoping to hear that her brother was ok. "Hey Nick, you're ok right? Hanks ok too. He woke up, he seems fine….Um, but there's a problem." Monroe's voice lowered and he step away from the bed.
"I am fine. But seriously, what the hell are you guys doing in Adalind's bedroom?"
