Hello everybody, I'm back with another chapter, the one thing I want to say about this Chapter is that part of it focuses on the spiritual realm. I'm a Christen and I wanted to model my story after my faith in our lord Jesus Christ. You might not care about religion and that's okay, but I do want to say this I am very strong in my relationship with Jesus and I want to show that in my story, so I'm sorry if you are looking for something that has worldly beliefs, but my stories will not contain anything like that, but they will contain the story of Jesus. Enough chit-chat and let's dive in to the story.
Chapter 21: The Two Realms
Chase raced towards the hospital, sirens blaring. Chase walked into the hospital and walked straight for the operating room. But a few of the nurses tried to stop him from entering.
"Uh sir, you can't go in there," one of the nurses said.
"Police officer Chase, I have the authority to enter if I want, now please let me through," Chase said.
"Just because you an officer doesn't mean you can just waltz in here and act like you own the place," the other nurse said.
"Oh, you've got some nerve talking to me like that; let me in, that's my girlfriend in there, she needs me," Chase said desperately.
"I can't let you do that sir," the nurse said holding him back.
"Hay, let him in, he needs to be with her," Dr. Heeler said.
The nurse slowly stepped away and let Chase through.
"How is she doc," Chase asked.
"Uh, not good Chase; she's loosing blood, and fast. We can't operate on her without a blood transfusion, but we don't have her blood type," Heeler said.
"What is her blood type?" Chase asked.
"AB; we've called Foggy Bottoms hospital for more blood units, but I don't know if she can wait for them," Heeler said.
"Use mine, I've got O blood type; I'll do anything for Skye," Chase said.
"That's paw-fect, let's go; Marshal I need an IV line, and Stella I need you to keep an eye on her vitals," Heeler barked.
Soon Marshal returned with the IV and carefully inserted one end into Chase's wrist. Heeler then attached the other end to Skye's wrist. Soon Chase's life blood flowed through the line and into Skye, keeping her alive, for now. With his free paw, Chase stroked Skye's fur gently.
"You're going to be okay Skye," Chase whispered.
"How we doing on her vitals," Heeler yelled.
"We've got steady oxygen and blood flow, her heart rate is a little fast, but not a problem yet." Stella said.
"Okay I'm going to remove the bullet," Heeler said.
Slowly Heeler made a small cut in Skye's side. Chase watched, a wave of different emotions flooding through his mind; fear, fascination, hope, disgust, all of these emotions were present in Chase's mind. Eventually Heeler slowly brought the brass bullet out and onto the medical tray. Heeler let out a sigh of relief. Chase didn't realize he was holding his breath and finally took a breath of air.
"I think we're good," Heeler said.
Heeler proceeded to stitch Skye's side up, and every one let out a sigh of relief. Then suddenly, the heart rate monitor began to beep rapidly!
"Oh, no, no, no, we're losing her," Heeler cried.
"What's wrong?" Chase asked with concern.
"Her heart rate is increasing to dangerous levels, but I don't know why," Heeler said, franticly looking for the problem.
"what do we do!" Chase panicked.
"We can't do anything if we don't know what the problem is," Heeler said.
The monitor begins beeping faster.
"No, no, oh Dear God, please don't let this happen; oh good Jesus, please help her; I can't lose another friend, please," Chase prayed with tears in his eyes.
"Chase, there's nothing we can do; it would take a miracle to save her," Heeler said sadly.
"No, I refuse to accept that; God can work miracles; I refuse to accept that she's gone," Chase said, wrapping his paws around her.
Heeler and Marshal watched with sad eyes as Chase hugged and Kissed Skye's motionless body.
"Skye, I love you, please come back to me; please, SKYE," Chase cried.
Skye opened her eyes and looked around.
"Where on earth am I?" Skye said to herself.
A dark, heavy fog loomed around her. She tried to look through the fog to see where she was, but it was too thick to see anything.
"What is happening?" Skye said.
"You're a long way from the barn little lady," came a voice familiar to Skye.
Skye whipped around and was dumbfounded by who she saw.
"Stardust," Skye whispered.
"Hello little sis," Stardust said.
"But… but the blizzard; you died protecting me from the cold?" Skye said with confusion.
"That's right," Stardust said with a smile.
"Oh no, does that mean I'm dead too!" Skye said with fear.
"Ha, ha, not yet Skyla; you are in between life and death," Stardust said.
Skye, please come back to me, SKYE, This voice was also familiar to Skye's ears. She looked down and saw herself on the hospital bed, with Chase's paws wrapped around her.
"Chase," Skye said.
"Looks like he really loves you; I told you you'd find a loving family one day." Stardust said, wrapping a paw across Skye's shoulder.
The warmth from Stardust's paw told her that she wasn't dreaming.
"Yeah, they are a great family." Skye said, a tear slowly falling from her eye.
"I was sent here to you for one reason," Stardust said.
"To take me to heaven," Skye said with a hint of sadness.
"Mm, not quite that is your choice; I was sent her to ask you if you wanted to come home with me, or go home to Chase," Stardust said
Skye looked up towards the sky. Heaven was right there! She could see the great pearly gate. The streets of gold and a world of rest and comfort within her grasp. But her eyes fell on Chase. His passionate kiss on her lips and the tears of sadness falling from his eyes made Skye's choice for her.
"I appreciate the offer big sis, but Chase needs me," Skye said.
"I understand; you know we will meet again, right?" Stardust said.
"Yeah, and next time, I'll be ready to come home with you," Skye said with a smile.
"Live your life Skyla, live it well," Stardust said as she ascended into heaven.
Skye smiled again and closed her eyes. The fog began to spin rapidly around her as her spirit was taken back to earth. Meanwhile Chase continued to hug and kiss Skye, crying and praying at the same time. Heeler lowered he head in silence. Marshal looked back at the heart rate monitor and was shocked to see Skye's heart rate going down.
"Dr. Look," Marshal said.
Heeler looked in surprise. She looked at Chase again.
"How are you doing that, Chase?" Heeler asked.
"Doing what?" Chase said, still crying from the thought of loosing Skye.
"Her heart rate is falling back down; how are you doing that."
"I don't know," Chase said with hope.
"Well whatever you're doing don't stop," Heeler said.
Chase turned back to Skye.
"Don't worry Skye, I'm coming for you," Chase said planting another passionate kiss on Skye's lips.
Eventually Skye's heart rate fell back down to a stable pace. Chase cried with joy this time and stayed with her until she woke up a few hours later.
"Ah, Chase," Skye groaned weakly.
"Oh, Skye, you're awake," Chase said with joy.
"Oh, I always thought it was cats that had nine lives, but it seems as if dogs have them too," Skye joked.
"Hehe, Hay don't you ever try and do something like that again." Chase said.
"Do what again," Skye said innocently.
"Put yourself in unnecessary danger! I almost lost you," Chase scolded.
"But I'm here now, aren't I" Skye said.
"Just don't scare me like that again, I… I don't think I could live through that again. I… I love you Skye, ah, I can't hold it in any longer, I really love you, you are a smart, beautiful pup who is really brave and good at your job, and I really do love you Skye," Chase confessed.
Skye had the biggest smile on her face.
"I love you too Chase; you're a brave, strong pup who loves his friends and his town. You always think of a way out of a problem and you never give up, and I love you for that." Skye said.
"Oh Skye," Chase said softly.
Chase and Skye kissed each other. They enjoyed every second of it, with their eyes closed and their tongues entwined. After what seemed like an eternity, Chase broke the kiss.
"Oh, I really do love you Chase; what took you so long," Skye moaned.
"I… I was afraid, that you would be mad and not want to be my friend anymore," Chase said.
"Oh Chase, I could never be mad at you for anything," Skye said.
The two kissed again, this one more passionate then the last. Chase and Skye continued their little acts of love and affection for a good long while. That is until Marshal accidently walked in right in the middle of one of their many kisses.
"Oh, uh, hay guys, uh sorry to interrupt, but I kind of need to ask Chase something privately and then you two can uh get back to whatever you we're doing." Marshal said, hiding his face with a paw.
Chase sighed and gave Skye one more kiss and then stepped out of the room with Marshal.
"Now what was so important you had to interrupt the best moment of our lives," Chase said with annoyance.
"It's Spot; I need to talk to him; where's he being held at?" Marshal asked.
"Adventure county jail; the police officers there can get you into the interrogation room to talk with him," Chase said.
"Thanks Chase; Oh hay did you finally tell her how you feel?" Marshal asked.
"I sure did," Chase said with pride.
"I told you, you could do it; so are you boyfriend and girlfriend yet," Marshal asked.
"Not yet, but I hope to be by the end of the day."
"Well then go get her tiger, I'll leave you two it now," Marshal said.
Chase and Marshal hugged. Then Marshal went off to face his brother. He pulled up to the Adventure county jail. Inside he was greeted by one of the police officers who was on guard duty.
"Good morning Marshal Sir," The officer said.
"Good morning to you to officer; listen I need to talk to my brother, Spot Dalmatian," Marshal said.
"Certainly I'll get him ready," the officer said.
"Oh and officer, might want to keep him hand cuffed; he really wants to kill me right now," Marshal said.
The officer nodded his head and went to get Spot ready for interrogation. Meanwhile Marshal thought about what he was going to say to Spot. The officer moved Spot to the interrogation room and hand cuffed him to the table to keep him from killing Marshal. Marshal took a deep breath and then entered the room to talk with his brother.
"Hello Spot," Marshal said.
"You, gah, if it weren't for these hand cuffs, you would be dead already," Spot growled.
"That's why they're on you, to protect me," Marshal said slyly.
"What do you want," Spot grumbled.
"I want to know where my friends are," Marshal said bluntly.
"Sure, after you atone for your sin against me," Spot said with an evil grin.
"I've already apologized a million times; what more do you want," Marshal said.
"You can talk to the fist about that," Spot said.
Marshal instantly knew what Spot wanted.
"I'll think about it Spot; that is all I need from you," Marshal said.
Spot was moved back to his kennel and Marshal drove back to the hospital to talk with Chase about Spot's words. Marshal walked up and knocked this time on Skye's hospital door.
"Come on in Marshal," Chase said.
Marshal entered the room. Chase was sitting on the bed with Skye. The two had the biggest smiles on their faces and they both held each other's paws.
"Oh, Marsh, you'll never guess what just happened," Skye said.
"No way, did you finally ask her," Marshal asked, looking at Chase.
Chase nodded his head yes.
"And so," Marshal said.
"We're boyfriend and girlfriend now," Chase said.
"Oh that's great you two, I told you you'd be able to do it one day," Marshal said.
"Well, I couldn't have done it without you always teasing and pestering me about it, so thanks for not giving up on me," Chase said.
"Yeah, I enjoyed teasing you about it; now I can't I just wish I still had my Evey," Marshal said sadly.
"Oh Marshal, we'll get your Everest back, don't worry," Skye said.
"Hay did you get anything out of Spot," Chase asked.
"No, he won't talk until I pay for my sin against him." Marshal said.
"What does that mean?" Skye asked.
"It means I'll have to face Spot's wrath," Marshal said in a gloomy tone.
"Oh no, we're not doing that; we'll find our friends without Spot," Chase said.
"Chase, I need to do this for myself as well as for my friends," Marshal said.
"No, I'm not going to let Spot kill you."
"Spot will do as he wishes to me; a pup's gotta do what a pup's gotta do."
"Absolutely not; I'm not loosing another friend," Chase said.
"Son of a mutt Chase can't you just respect your friend's wishes," Marshal yelled.
Chase immediately fell silent. The two stared at each other for a moment.
"Okay, if that's what you really want, I'll take you," Chase said.
Chase turned and gave his new girlfriend a kiss. Marshal gave Skye a hug and the two set out to meet the wrath of a hurt, angry Dalmatian named Spot. Soon Chase and Marshal walked up to Spot's kennel.
"What do you want this time," Spot growled.
"I want to atone for my sin," Marshal said.
"Hehe, this is going to be fun," Spot said with and evil chuckle.
"I'm here until you are satisfied; so Chase, lock me in," Marshal said.
Chase reluctantly opened Spot's kennel and let Marshal In. as soon as the door was locked again, Marshals mouth was greeted by Spot's fist. Marshal stumbled back, slamming into the kennel door. Spot then sank his teeth into Marshals neck and began thrashing him around.
The thrashing only lasted a few minutes before Spot threw him on the ground. Marshal laid there, blood dripping from his mouth as spot landed endless blows to his chest and stomach.
"This is for leaving me with that drunkard. And this one's for not trying to reach out and reconcile with me and this one is for all the drunken beatings you missed." Spot said.
Marshal lay on the ground, coughing and bleeding from multiple places.
"Marshal," Spot said his eyes widening as he realized what he was doing.
Marshal didn't respond he just lay there silently.
"Brother," Spot said, sadness and regret starting to fill his mind.
"I'm here Spot, I'm here until your satisfied, go head, hit me again," Marshal said.
Spot raised his fist again and Marshal prepared himself for the punch. But it never came, Marshal looked up at Spot. Spot started to cry and couldn't bring himself to hit Marshal again.
"I…. I can't, because you're the only family I have left," Spot cried.
Spot helped Marshal up and the two hugged each other.
"Oh Marshal, what have I become," Spot said, lowering his head in shame.
"Nothing Jesus Christ can't save," Marshal said.
"Are you sure, could God really save a wretched sinner like me," Spot said.
"Yes Spot, he can, and he will if you call on him. Reach out to him Spot; he'll help you," Marshal said.
Marshal turned to leave.
"Marshal Wait; Your friends, they're in Foggy Bottoms. Mayor Humdinger paid us to pup-nap you guys." Spot said.
"Thank you Spot; you've done good telling us that willingly," Marshal said.
"Be careful; last I heard he was building some sort of super weapon to destroy you," Spot warned.
"Thanks for the warning; take care of yourself Spot; reach out to God, he will help you," Marshal said.
Chase and Marshal drove back to the lookout. Ryder and Ella were there waiting for them.
"Did you guys get any information," Ryder asked.
"One word, Humdinger," Chase said with annoyance.
"Of course, had to be vile Humdinger; he just earned his death warrant," Ella said.
"Ella," Chase said sternly.
"I mean his arrest warrant," Ella said.
"What do we do now?" Marshal said.
"Nothing until Skye's healed; until she is strong enough to leave the hospital, we're not doing anything but planning for the battle ahead." Chase said.
"That sounds good, but if we are going to come up with a good plan we need to rest. We were up all last night. If I've learned anything as an assassin, you need you rest to complete your mission, even if you're in the middle of a large city with angry terrorist after you. You need to sleep, and yes I have done that," Ella said.
"You're right Ella, Let's all get some rest," Chase said.
The rest agreed and went to their pup houses and went to bed. Chase knew that the battle ahead was going to be hard. He didn't know just how hard this mission was going to be.
Wow, Skye's miraculously alive, and now they know that humdingers behind it all. Next chapter we'll find out what is at Humdingers fortress, so come back next week for more on Adventures of the PAW Patrol.
