At the Midnight Sun hideout, Gustav's team had defeated the members they had engaged. They were now wrapped in vines from a tree with a serpent's head that Gustav had created.
"Hmm, I think that profile needs a little more work," he said.
"What's wrong with them?"
"We don't stand a chance; these guys are out of control."
"So, hmm, you think maybe you could tell me where your leader is?" Gustav asked.
"Well, you see, uh…"
"Hurry up, spit it out," said Gustav as the serpent's head hissed, breathing a little fire. "I'm just itching to create another masterpiece."
"Master Licht should be…"
Then, suddenly, he began to disintegrate, and the same thing happened to the other captured members, much to their shock. They cried out in pain and utter anguish as their bodies began to break apart.
"I don't understand," said Gustav. "What's going on here? I didn't even do anything to them, I swear."
Once their body disintegrated, they could see their souls flying out of the hideout.
"Whoa, this is crazy," said Gustav.
The same thing was happening to all the other teams.
"What kind of spell is that?" Adelaide asked.
"Oow, this looks interesting," said Luck.
Outside, Cob could see the blinding light from the horizon and the souls flying out of the hideout.
Everyone was terrified of the bright lighting on the horizon across the kingdom. They were already shaken up when they first saw the swords raining down from the sky.
At the ruins of the hideout, the Blak Dragons just stared at the light.
"What is that?" Henry asked. "It's so bright."
"First, the whole sky was covered in big shiny swords and now this too," Grey panicked. "I'm confused."
"It's so bright," said Gordon. "It reminds me of our bonds of friendship, but I guess I should bring that up right now."
"It might be another attack from the Eye of the Midnight Sun," said Gaspard.
Eventually, the light died down, which confused them even more.
"It went out," said Gordon. "But still, our friendship is…"
He stopped when he saw a bright glow standing next to him. Turning his head, he saw that Gaspard was glowing this time.
"Hey, look at Gaspard," said Grey. "That's weird."
Gaspard, who didn't appear to be aware that he was glowing, frowned. "What's weird?"
"Uh, your body is…"
"Yeah, what's the matter with it?"
"It's all glowy," said Henry.
Gaspard wasn't the only one glowing; Marie was experiencing the same thing in the village of Nean.
"What is that Marie?"
Columns of light then erupted up into the sky from their bodies.
"It just never ends, does it?" said Rebecca.
At the Royal Capital, Hiccup and the twins watched all this transpiring.
"What the hell?" Hiccup stared.
In the Eye, the Midnight Sun hideout, Luck and Ben began to glow.
"Where did this come from?" Luck stared.
"Not Luck, too," said Adelaide.
Every member of Gustav's team was also glowing.
"This is so weird," said Gustav, unable to make sense of any of this. "What is it? I'm scared!"
Snotlout and En watched as Slade and Nils began to glow, and they were none the wiser about what was transpiring.
Victoria and her team watched as Rhya began to glow.
"Man, it's one thing after another," Dak groaned. "What's with the light show? You are as an explanation before all this is over, do you understand?"
Rhya merely smiled. "Too bad."
"What is?" Dak asked.
"Your worthless human race is finished," said Rhya as he began to transform.
Leyla's team was also beginning to transform, and only Maple seemed immune to what was happening.
"Oh no, I have a bad feeling," she said as her friends began to transform. "My friends… why do you look…? Klaus, talk to me."
Klaus looked at her but with a look of disdain, something he had never shown to her before.
"Don't use such a familiar tone with us," he said. "You should know we aren't teammates or friends."
Everyone who transformed now turned upon those they considered teammates and friends without a second thought.
At the Demon skull, Patry laughed in triumph.
"Begone! Begone! Begone!" he yelled madly. "Begone humans! At last, the time has come for revenge!"
Hiccup and the twins just stared at the lights, which then began to die down.
"What's with the crazy light show?" Tuffnut asked.
"Yeah, was it some sort of attack?" Ruffnut asked.
Hiccup shook his head. "No, that was an attack spell, but it was a giant burst of magic power, and the entire kingdom is now drenched in it."
"Okay, but what did it do?" Ruffnut asked.
Hiccup had no idea, but his eyes widened as he sensed something off. 'This aura… is it?'
They could hear voices below, no doubt belonging to the staff, as they tried to come to terms with what just happened.
"Where did that light come from?"
"You all right? What happened?"
"I'll call the nearest Magic Knights squad!"
Then suddenly, they heard screams, as if they were being attacked. Seconds later, Fishlegs and Owen appeared on the back of a water jellyfish. However, they were completely different, as they now had red markings on their faces and pointy ears.
"So you finally made it here," said Hiccup, looking at them suspiciously. "And when you do, you attack our guys. I'm going to need an explanation."
"It should be obvious that we are not the ones that once inhabited these forms," said Fishlegs.
"So you're saying you're not Fishlegs and Owen?" Tuffnut frowned.
"No, we're the elves," said Fishlegs. "A race that lived in this world long ago before we were slaughtered by you humans."
"Is that right?" said Hiccup, not liking when this was going.
"Precisely, except this time, it is humanity that will be eliminated," said Owen. "With no survivors, the same as before."
"Well, this is shaping up to be an inconvenience," said Hiccup. 'They did say something about being reborn into their true forms and gaining a whole bunch of magic power. But I thought they meant the Eye of the Midnight Sun would be gaining power.'
"It may be inconvenient, yes," said Fishlegs as he aimed his crossbow at him. "But I promise you it won't take long at all."
He fired arrows directly at them; the twins quickly jumped back, and Hiccup deflected the shot with his sword.
'If he is able to hit any of us with that spell, we'll lose our most recent memories,' said Hiccup as he continued deflecting the shots. 'It looks like he's booted the range and speed by a pretty big margin too.'
"Had enough?" Fishlegs asked as he finally stopped firing.
"Man, never known Fishlegs to be quite that aggressive," said Tuffnut.
"He said he's not Fishlegs, I'm still coming to terms with that," said Ruffnut.
"You two stay back," Hiccup ordered.
Hiccup then quickly covered Julius's body in darkness, and they quickly jumped back just as Owen slammed his water tentacles down on top of them.
'Owen's recovery spell is different, too,' Hiccup noticed. 'Way stronger and twisted somehow like he wants to break your body instead of healing it.'
Toothless quickly grabbed the twins, and they jumped onto another rooftop just before Owen attacked them again.
"Man, this is shaping up to be one crazy day," said Tuffnut.
"No kidding," said Ruffnut.
Owen looked at Hiccup curiously. "I don't recognise that corpse there. Is it someone who was important to you? Not that it really matters; he was a human, so he was a repulsive sinner who deserved to die anyway."
"Take that back," Hiccup glared.
"If he's so precious to you, feel free to pay your respects while I obliterate his remains piece by piece," said Fishlegs, raising his crossbow and firing.
Hiccup quickly deflected the shot with his sword
"That's definitely not Fishlegs talking," said Ruffnut.
"You're right," said Hiccup as he glared at the two of them. "And I refuse to let spew that garbage out of their mouths!"
Toothless then quickly flew up to Hiccup, who jumped on his back, and they flew up straight towards them.
"Go on, charge ride in that even easier," said Fishlegs as he raised his crossbow. "Memory Magic: Torment Canceler Attack!"
'Dark Magic: Black Hole!' said Hiccup as he created his black hole.
His blackhole and absorbed Fishlegs' attack, much to his surprise.
'Dark Magic: Dark Cloacked Lightless Blade Storm!' Hiccup swung his blade rapidly, slicing right through Owen's water jellyfish.
'What?' Fishlegs gasped.
Hiccup then jumped off of Toothless and began jumping off the pieces of the jellyfish with unbelievable speed until he was right in their faces.
'How is he moving like that?' Owen gasped.
"Dark Cloacked Lightless Blunt Slash!" Hiccup yelled, striking the two of them with the flat of his blade, knocking them out cold. "Now, why don't you stay put. I have to protect this country. I promised a man the two of you respected."
Ruffnut quickly created a gas cloud to catch the two of them and gently placed them on the ground.
"That was crazy," said Tuffnut.
"They were much more fearsome than I remember," said Ruffnut.
"You're right," said Hiccup, looking down at the two of them. "Those two are even combat mages. How did things get this out of hand?"
Hiccup then heard movement beneath his feet and quickly jumped. A few seconds later, large red roses shot out from the ground.
'Red roses?' Hiccup stared.
"Please tell me it's not her," said Ruffnut.
"Wish that I could sis," said Tuffnut.
Briars wrapped themselves around Fishlegs and Owen, and emerging from the large rose was Astrid, who had also become an elf.
"My comrades, letting down your guard as soon as you awaken," she said. "It will serve our mission better if you sleep within my spell, at least for now."
"Oh no, Astrid, not you too," said Hiccup.
Astrid looked at him indifferently. "I don't know you at all, but you seem capable for a human."
Across the capital, fires were raging as possessed Magic Knights were attacking people, which left everyone confused.
"What is that?"
"Powerful spells everywhere."
"The kingdom has been attacked again already?"
Then suddenly, a mess of roses smashed through a wall with Hiccup and the twins in tow.
"Get out of here now!" Hiccup yelled.
Everyone immediately ran off screaming.
"Ruff! Tuff! Evacuate the area. I'll handle her!" Hiccup commanded.
The twins nodded and began running to evacuate the citizens.
Hiccup then turned the giant roses that were slowly demolishing the buildings. 'Let the buildings crumble all over town. As long as its people live, a nation never dies. But with so many of these jokers running around, the people might not hold out either.'
He then turned his attention to Astrid, who was hiding among the roses. 'These roses are covering up magic power. This really isn't like her.'
He then raised his sword and clocked it in darkness. "You know what I was good at hiding seek. Dark Cloaked Lightless Slash!"
He then swung his sword and released his slash attack at one of the roses, and just before it hit, Astrid jumped out of it.
"Your intuition is sharp," she said as she drew a sword of her own made of briars.
"That's not it; it's because of your aura," said Hiccup. "It came through loud and clear."
"My aura?" Astrid frowned.
She then thrust her sword towards him, which he was able to dodge.
'Gotta love aura,' Hiccup smiled.
Then suddenly, briars shot out of the sword in all directions, but he could also dodge them and cut them with his sword.
'She's got Astrid's aura and all her moves, but the fighting style is different,' Hiccup observed. 'Her signature midrange attacks are there, but now she's got a slew of close-range spells, and that smell is scrambling her magic power. Not to mention her airtight defence; without working against me, it won't be easy to knock her out. I heard her roses turned blue when she was a little girl…'
Hiccup then started to remember when he saved Astrid from her curse, and it looked as if the curse had been lifted.
'…we thought the curse had been lifted back then, but clearly it still lingers, or else the roses would have changed colour. Well, she is an elf inside. Maybe the mark of the curse disappeared, and now she's no longer human. This must be Astrid's original Briar Magic.'
Hiccup looked up at Astrid. "The woman I married was a determined woman who used her curse to her advantage and made herself stronger." He then quickly jumped back, avoiding Astrid's next attack. "I can't believe that you allowed someone to take over your body and magic for their own purposes."
Terra then suddenly arrived with a golem and Heather by her side.
"Astrid, no!" Terra cried.
"Heather is here?" said Hiccup, looking up at them.
Heather looked at Hiccup with relief. "Hiccup, am I glad you're here."
Hiccup looked at them and noticed they were a bit beaten up.
"Astrid, what's with you?" Terra asked. "You attacked us. I don't understand, how could you? Tell me you didn't mean to hurt us, right Astrid? What's wrong?"
"Impudent snivelling human," said Astrid. "Do not address me like a friend. You mean nothing to me."
Terra looks completely heartbroken. "But Astrid…"
"Terra, I don't know what's going on, but I don't think that's Astrid talking," said Heather.
"You're right," said Hiccup as he landed on Terra's golem. "Some kind of entity has taken control over her body through the use of some very powerful magic."
"Just as I thought," said Heather.
"Then what are we supposed to do?" Terra asked.
"You can leave that to me," said Hiccup.
"What?!" Terra glared.
"You should have a good time, though," said Hiccup, handing her Julius' body inside his dark cocoon.
"What is that?" Terra asked.
"I need you to take this orb and take it somewhere safe," Hiccup instructed.
"Hey, I refuse to take orders from men! Forget it!" Terra snapped.
"Hiccup is a magic knight captain, and you should show him some respect," said Heather strictly.
"Heather, we can't just let a man rescue Astrid," said Terra.
"This isn't the time to argue," said Hiccup, pointing down at the orb. "There is a hero in there… what are you doing?"
Terra had jumped off the golem. "I won't let Astrid be rescued by a man."
"Terra, you're nowhere near strong enough to deal with Astrid!" Heather yelled.
"I won't abandon her; trust me, I could snap out of it," said Terra defiantly. She then slammed her hand into the ground. "Earth Magic: Multi…"
However, before she can complete her spell, Astrid somehow dispelled with just the presence of a magic power.
'Astrid's hyper-concentrated magic field is keeping me from casting my spouse properly,' said Terra. 'That's a tough fight, even for a captain. Does this mean I'll be totally helpless to stop her? No, not after all she has done for me.'
She then stood up. "Astrid was the woman who saved my life; I'll make a wake-up even if I get killed in the process."
She was about to charge toward Astrid, but Hiccup pulled her back. "I won't have you risk your life on a suicide mission! We are under orders to protect the people and stay alive, which means that is what we are going to do! It's not that I understand where you're coming from."
"Then let go," she said.
"Not until I've finished! You have to survive, not just for her sake, but for everyone else's too," said Hiccup.
Heather nodded. "Hiccup is the only one here with a chance of taking her down."
Terra burst into tears. "Please save Astrid. The Blue Rose Knights need their captain. I'm counting on you."
"Then stand down and let me handle this," said Hiccup.
"Terra, take that orb and go," said Heather. "I'll remain behind and ensure no one is in the area."
The two of them then went to complete their missions, and Toothless accompanied Heather, leaving Hiccup alone with Astrid.
"You missed your chance to run away," said Astrid as she sent her briars down at him.
"I don't have any intention of running away," said Hiccup and then created his defensive spell. "Dark Magic: Black Hole!"
Hiccup's spell absorbed the briars, and he swung his sword down upon hers.
"Your subordinate is crying!" Hiccup yelled, looking at her in the eyes. "You are just going to let them do what they want? That's what a weakling would do, and you're not weak! I know you're not."
The two of them disengaged, and Astrid wrapped her briars to form a giant spear.
"You're quite strong," she said. "I respect you."
"This magic power is unbelievable," said Hiccup. "Black Hole won't be nearly enough to absorb it all. One good blast from that and have the town will be blown to smithereens, taking countless lives with it. You have my respect; you had all along, and that is why whatever it takes, I will save you!"
He then raised his sword and began channelling his magic with a blade.
"Brian Magic…"
"Dark Magic…"
"Crimson Vine Spear!"
"Dark Cloacked Dimension Slash!"
The two of them then unleashed their spells against one another, causing a small implosion the moment they clashed.
Meanwhile, in the Midnight Sun hideout, Carl and Adelaide had just witnessed Luck and Ben transform. They were completely baffled by the magic power they were releasing.
"You guys… what's wrong?" Adelaide asked.
"It's just so… beautiful," said Carl, stunned.
"It's just like with Vetto and the others," said Adelaide, sensing the malice from the two of them. "It feels so evil. Why is that kind of magic power coming from you?"
