Still Blue

Chapter 18

Hours later

In the morning

I was a single woman. Living alone with my child. Of course i had a gun for protected i had every right and needed paperwork to use. North Carolina was an open carry state.

I bought it years ago. And every so often i went to the gun range and practiced shooting just in case.

And given last night's events. I felt safer and more in control knowing if i had to i would be able to defend myself and most importantly Penelope.

I carefully and quietly put the gun away back in its case that no one but me knew anything about.

I was going to get a security system installed. A police car being so close was temporary.

I went to the bathroom. Took a quick shower got dressed.

It was only then that Penelope awoke.

I smiled up at her.

"Is the quiet game over now?" Penelope asked.

"Yes Penny. The window downstairs is broken and has tape on it."

"You stay away from that and there is a police car parked outside they will be there for the next few days." Brooke explained.

"Why were we in the bathroom last night? Why was i sleeping in you're room?" Penelope questioned.

Brooke wrapped her arm around Penelope.

"We've talked about stranger danger. That's what happened last night. But you are so safe here. Momma loves you and won't let anything to you. I promise you." Brooke reassured her.

"We protect each other." Penelope said. Pulling her mom into a hug.

Brooke kept Penelope by her side for the next two days before letting her go back to school.

She informed both Rachel and Haley about what had gone on.

And knew they would tell the remaining friend group.

But she made it clear to Haley she didn't want Lucas to be told.

...

Lucas returned to Tree Hill and felt his career being strong and steady for the first time since he entered the writing world and he realized visiting Peyton only gave her mixed messages so he would keep in contact but not visit anymore.

...

"I fucking knew it! Rich bitch and that girl were home that night."

"Her car was in the driveway i told you." A man said.

"There are cops watching the house. What are we supposed to do now?" Another voice questioned.

"Wait it out or maybe go for a smaller target." The man suggested.
