"Alright gentlemen, I have a special training exercise for the two of you today." Goku and Vegeta stopped their sparring match and flew down to meet Whis.
"What is it today Whis, something cool?" Goku asked, his simple nature showing through, something Whis had found quite endearing compared to Vegeta and Beerus's attitudes.
"It has been nearly a year since you've arrived on this planet and have yet to tap into the Super Saiyan God form at will. Lord Beerus has been getting incredibly impatient, so he asked me to accelerate your training a little bit." With that, Whis let go of his staff and like a black hole, began to pull the Saiyans into it.
"Woaaaahhhhh!" Both Goku and Vegeta yelled as they were pulled in. When they opened their eyes, they found that they were in a blank, cloudy void, with only the staff between them.
"Alright, what parlor trick is- What the hell?" Vegeta said as his body showed signs of visible strain. "I-I can't move. What's going on here?!" He shouted to the void.
"It's like my body's totally stuck, my muscles won't work." A translucent figure in the shape of Whis appeared before them, projected from the staff itself.
"This is a special dimension within my staff that's very similar to that time chamber place you two use on Earth, but with one little detail. You two and all your friends waste so much energy when you power up and show off; this room is specialized so that any leaking of energy, no matter how small, will restrain your movements completely. Your goal here is to contain and harness your full power without spilling a drop of it, once you achieve that, Super Saiyan God will be at your door." With that, the Holo-Whis vanished, leaving the Saiyans stranded and floating.
"So, is it done Whis?" A gruff voice spoke from behind, Lord Beerus was sitting on a chair underneath some tree shade, an open box of pizza next to him.
"Yes it is My Lord. With any luck, those two should have control of their strength within 24 hours from now."
"Good. I can't believe I didn't think of this sooner, finally I can have some peace and quiet while enjoying this delectable dish. Speaking of which, I require another!"
"You should slow down on those Lord Beerus, otherwise it's going to get harder and harder to tell you apart from you know who." The purple cat man gave his attendant a dirty look, then tilted his head up to the sky with a huff.
"Don't even bring that up as a joke! I haven't even had that many! Now another pizza or I take out the suns again!" Whis simply sighed in defeat and walked towards the tree palace of the god to fetch another.
On the other side of the universe, Frieza just knocked out Shisami for approximately the 9001st time since he began training. As soon as the red alien hit the ground, medical staff immediately pulled him into a healing pod like it was just another day for them, by this point it was, but what wasn't normal was Frieza staying quiet, looking at his fist, flexing his fingers as he did.
"Um Lord Frieza. Do you want Tagoma to come in now?" Sorbet walked up to him timidly to ask.
"No. In fact, gather every Frieza Force soldier to this planet, I have a special request for all of them." Sorbet was taken aback by this, but knew better than to talk back against this order. Within a couple hours, thousands of soldiers swarmed the planet, with Frieza being projected for all to see on a large hologram.
"Welcome my wonderful army. I appreciate those of you who stayed in service all these years and the new recruits who found our cause useful to them. I have one very important request for all of you who have trained so diligently alongside me and my elites. I want all of you to concentrate your fire on myself." The sounds of shock that ripped through the army were immediately silenced by a single hand from Frieza. "Yes, yes, I know this is a very unorthodox request, but I wish to test this newfound power of mine and what better way than to let myself take on my entire army. Now then, soldiers may fire when ready, I promise you this isn't a trick and I will not kill anyone on purpose. You have my word." He held one hand over his chest and another up in the air as he said this. This made the force feel a little better, so a few soldiers took to the sky, then some more, until eventually the whole army was a cloud of soldiers, blocking out the star that shone on the planet, but the light of the star was replaced by an ever more brilliant glow of thousands of energy beams being charged. Frieza felt the power emanating from all those blasts, by now he'd lost his dependance on scouters and learned to sense energy like Goku and his friends.
"I might need more power than this." Frieza said to himself quietly, but with a grin of pride at just how strong his army had gotten. As soon as the beams were fired, they began to coalesce into one massive column of light and power, aimed directly at the emperor. Frieza held up a finger and prepared a supernova, flicking it at the beam as he's done to planets countless times before, only this time, the ball was being pushed back towards its creator. Frieza put more power into the ball, but he was at his first form's maximum and still his army was overwhelming him. In an instant, he went into his second, no good, third, better but still not enough, upon reaching his final form, the supernova was touching his fingertips, only to stop dead in its tracks and for him to smirk. He lowered one hand and assumed a more relaxed position, adding just a smidge of extra energy into the sphere, causing it to move away from him, slowly at first, then accelerating rapidly as he powered up more. By the time he reached 25% power, the sphere was a rocket that tore through the oncoming assault like it was nothing, causing several soldiers to abandon the attack and move out of the way of the oncoming mini-star. A few dozen soldiers couldn't move fast enough and were completely eradicated by the supernova, though Frieza couldn't care less about that collateral damage. After the attack reached deep space, it detonated into a blindingly bright explosion, its shockwave being felt even this far out.
"Wonderful, simply wonderful!" Frieza said, clapping his hands together, still in his final form. "You've all grown considerably and have helped me to achieve power I never thought imaginable. Though I am disappointed I didn't get to show off my full strength, not even close to it." Once again, chatter of shock was spread amongst the compound, but once more silenced. "Don't fret, I'll just have to save that for my rematch against that blasted saiyan. Now then, I shall select 3000 of my highest powered soldiers to accompany me to earth, the rest of you shall remain as the backbone of the Frieza force. Sorbet, you will stay behind and be in charge while I'm gone."
"But sir! Won't you need someone to-" He stopped dead in his tracks as a finger, charging a point of red light was aimed at him.
"I gave you a direct order. Don't make me ask twice."
"Y-yes sir. As you wish my lord." Sorbet, sweating, bowed and retreated, Frieza lowering his finger as he did so.
"As for those joining my crusade, recover yourselves and prepare to fly in the next twelve hours. We set course to Earth!" Unbeknownst to Frieza, one member of the force was a double agent of the Galactic Patrol, who had recorded everything that just happened and sent it to headquarters, where a certain super elite in charge of Earth got it first.
"What, Earth?! Ahhhhh come on! I just got all my paperwork done for that planet! Fine, I'll tell Bulma and then I'll leave, maybe she can save herself and Tights if I do." Jaco, a flustered mess, went down to the shipyard, boarded his craft and made his way to Earth.
It felt like weeks had passed within the alternate dimension Goku and Vegeta were in, luckily the staff provided them with food and water and they stopped questioning why they didn't need to use the bathroom a while ago. By now, the two of them were sparring in base, not letting any energy leak out, utilizing every ounce of power they had, which greatly increased their efficiency with fighting and the power that came with it.
"Hey Vegeta, I've got an idea." Goku said as they pushed against each other in a clash.
"Now that's a shocker." Vegeta retorted, kicking Goku in the chest and pushing them both backwards.
"I'm serious. We've got the energy thing under control now, but what if we do what Gohan and I did back when we were preparing for Cell?"
"You mean maintaining Super Saiyan at all times?" Vegeta stopped and thought about for a moment while Goku continued.
"Yeah! If we do that and keep our energy inside, maybe it'll be easier to get Super Saiyan God again! Worth a shot dontcha think?"
"I hate to admit this, but you might be right. And if we do get that form, we should do the same thing."
"I was thinking the same thing! Alright, let's do this!" Goku powered up into Super Saiyan and just like before, his body completely locked up as the massive amount of energy within the form began to leak out, the same happened with Vegeta. "Heheh, guess we're back to square one huh?" Goku said sheepishly.
"I can't believe you talked me into this." Vegeta grimaced as the two once more tried to contain their energy.
"What do you mean he's coming in just a few hours! What kind of warning is that?!" Bulma screamed at Jaco, who by now was used to it and kept a calm demeanor.
"In all honesty, I think I'm giving you plenty of time. Frieza force ships are fast and I received this information very recently. You should be glad I'm even telling you at all. Now that that's done, I will take my leave. Good luck, I hope you find another hospitable planet." Jaco began to walk away, but was hit on the head by a very irate Bulma.
"Oh no you don't! You're staying here and helping us fight!"
"But I'm not supposed to get involved with matters like these. The paperwork is too much for that! Besides, how are you going to fight against 3000 soldiers? Earth barely even has level 3 technology, the Frieza force scouters alone are level 4." Bulma smirked at Jaco before holding a finger up to him.
"You've been gone a while, so you don't know that Earth has plenty of strong people to fight back, especially my friend Goku and my husband."
"Even so, I doubt they'll be strong enough to face Frieza himself. The only thing that took him out last time, at least according to the rumors, was a Saiyan, but that's not true." Jaco laughed it off as he spoke, only for Bulma to look confused, and correct him.
"Well, Goku is the Saiyan who beat Frieza last time. In fact my son from the future beat him too when he came to Earth last time." Jaco stopped laughing and looked at Bulma horrified.
"Y-you're joking right? A Saiyan? Here? Future? Time Travel? Bulma, please tell me you're joking!" Bulma simply shook her head.
"What's the big deal? My husband is a Saiyan too, his name's Vegeta." This made Jaco even more terrified.
"Wait, like the prince? Agh! I'm gonna have to do so much work when I get back to base! I was supposed to keep this planet free from any and all Saiyans, but now I find out two have been living here?! And the time travel?! Do you know how much trouble I'm going to be in if word gets out?!" He started frantically pacing back and forth, muttering and thinking about what to do.
"I mean, if it's that big of a deal, I just won't say anything if you won't." Jaco looked at her and thought about it.
"You know, that wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm the only patrolman on this world, nobody else knows, it's perfect! Thank you Bulma!" He was about to hug her, but she held up a hand.
"However! I'll only keep my mouth shut if you agree to help us fight Frieza." His arms slumped and he hung his head in defeat, realizing she just backed him into a corner.
"You are a vile woman, you know that right? I'll be in my ship." He then walked to his ship and sat in the cockpit, head in his hands for the remainder of time.
"Guess I should call the others, then get Goku and Vegeta back." She pulled out her phone and began to dial her friends one by one, starting with Krillin.
"Wha- F-F-Frieza?!" Was the first thing he said after Bulma gave him the info.
"Yeah, apparently he's coming to Earth in a few hours with about 3000 soldiers and we need to get ready. I gotta make some other calls, so let the others know to meet at Capsule Corp." Bulma then hung up, leaving Krillin frozen in terror, looking up at the sky, remembering how he died on Namek. "Why?"
Bulma attempted to use the communicator Whis gave her to contact the attendant, but no answer was to be had as Goku and Vegeta, now in a controlled Super Saiyan state, fought without paying attention to it. "Darn it, what's the point of this thing if you're not gonna pick up?" Gohan and Piccolo landed by her in a green tracksuit, his glasses still on.
"Hey, Bulma, I came as soon as Krillin called me, well, after telling Piccolo of course." Bulma smiled, always nice to see Gohan.
"I'm glad you guys are here, but what are you wearing?" She looked at the eyesore that was his tracksuit and Gohan just scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
"Sorry, I was out for a run when I got the call and didn't really have time to change into other clothes." Piccolo just sighed, held his hand out and changed Gohan into a purple Gi that resembled his own. Gohan looked perplexed but then smiled at Piccolo. "Thanks, I forgot you could do that."
"Whatever the case, where are Goku and Vegeta? We're gonna need all the help we can get." Piccolo asked Bulma.
"I've been trying to call Whis about that, but he's not picking up. I'll keep trying, but I'm not sure how far I'll get." They then heard more people flying in, Tien and Yamcha arrived together, soon followed by Krillin holding Master Roshi on his back.
"Looks like the gang's all here." Yamcha said, looking around.
"I'm surprised you're here Yamcha, don't you have a baseball game to play or something?" Krillin said, looking up at his old friend.
"I'm sure the Titans won't mind if I miss a game. The season just started, they'll be fine." Gohan then bowed to Roshi in order to greet him.
"Nice to see you again Master Roshi." Roshi nodded in return to Gohan.
"You've grown a lot since the last time I saw you kid. Have you kept up with your training?" Gohan looked at the ground a little bit, refusing to make eye contact with anyone, especially Piccolo.
"Not entirely. I've kept up enough to not lose power, but not much else. Pan and my job are making it difficult to find time right now." Roshi just stroked his beard.
"Well, at least you've been doing something. Now then, what's the plan?" Tien spoke up after Roshi said this.
"Well, with 3000 soldiers and 6 of us, that's 500 a piece. Might be a good idea to use the multi-form technique if they're not too strong so we can cover more ground."
"Actually, there's 7 of you." Bulma caught everyone's attention by dragging Jaco by his shirt collar across the ground to the group amidst his cries of protest. "Everyone, meet Jaco, he's part of the Galactic Patrol and the one who warned us about Frieza. He's gonna help too. Jaco got up and dusted himself off before posing in front of the warriors.
"That's, Super Elite Galactic Patrolman Jaco, to you!" He smirked as he struck a pose, leaving everyone but Gohan in shock, he instead was about to strike a pose with him, but Piccolo simply held out a hand and shook his head. Krilling walked up to Jaco, shaking off his confusion and held out a hand.
"Well, as a fellow officer of the law, thank you for your service to Earth Jaco. I'm glad you told us. So, when is Frieza about to-" As Krillin spoke, a massive spike of energy entered the solar system, one that could be felt by all the fighters, except Jaco, who instead got a ping on his patrol earpiece.
"I'd say, right around now."
