After their skirmish in training, Aizawa made it a mental note to keep Bakugo and Sai as far away from each other as possible and decided to call a meeting with the faculty to try and deter this in other classes as well before All Might could decide to pair them up sporadically. "Okay, I know it's a little sudden for me to start griping about students…But I think these two could benefit from being griped about." He mentioned as he placed a picture of Bakugo and Sai on different sides of the board, the marker writing between them simply read "HAZARD ZONE!"
"Aizawa, don't you think you're being a little extreme about this?" Nemuri aka Midnight asked her fellow teacher; "I mean; They're both kids, kids fight all the time so why is this so different?"
Aizawa then pointed to Bakugo; "Because this kid spews all kinds of hostile stuff at other people and it got him slugged in the face during my class." He explained plainly before pointing at Sai; "While this kid has an almost dangerous trigger when it comes to Bakugo and the insults thrown at him."
"Well…I suppose we can try to keep them separated, though it is fair to assure that plenty of the staff here are capable of handling a simple dispute." Principal Nezu agreed; "We might be teachers and guides on how to become better heroes but it is down to them to become better people."
"Speaking of….All Might's class will be next for 1A; Let's make sure that we can keep any potential mishaps to a minimum." Aizawa mentioned as he saw their next lesson for History of Heroes/Combat Training.
"I AM HERE!" A grandiose and very recognisable voice yelled out from behind the classroom door before it swung open and showed All Might wearing one of his vintage Hero costumes; "Entering the classroom like a normal person!"
Seeing and hearing the Number 1 Hero in their class was enough to make nearly everyone go nuts barring Iida, Izuku, Bakugo and Sai who had either already seen him plenty of times, wanted to be polite or just knew he was going to be there. "We got All Might as our teacher?! This is gonna be amazing!"
"Alright, you little Zygotes…We've got ourselves a special exercise so come meet me at Grounds B for a Trial Match…And take these with you!" All-Might instructed as he pulled out a remote and activated it to send cases out to meet them; "You've all had your Costumes prepared and ready by yourselves or by the Support Team so go get them and we'll meet everyone there in full gear!" He finished and vanished out of the door since his time as Large Might was running out for the moment.
—Later—
All Might stood waiting and grinned more once he heard the sound of footsteps approaching; "Someone famous once said that "The Clothes make the Hero!" But from what I can see, you guys are already shaping up to look good!" He remarked as he gazed upon the newly costumed students of Class 1A; His gaze ending by landing on the last two to arrive which were Sai and Izuku.
Izuku was wearing his green jumpsuit that had rabbit ears and a plastic mouth guard that could both protect his face and resemble All Might's smile.
Sai on the other hand went for something that better fit; He was wearing what looked like a metal helmet that covered his entire head and almost resembled a skull with it's toothy grin however it also had a set of triangular holes where the eyes were meant to be. It would have been something that All-Might would have criticised but on further inspection saw that those triplicate holes were enough to see out of and even then they opened and closed whenever he blinked or adjusted his eyes. The rest of him was a dark red and white long sleeved jacket and pants that seemed to resemble a mix of a kung fu/shuxiu suit and a straight jacket.
"Yakumo, my boy! I trust that you've made the appropriate measurements with your helmet, you look like you can barely see in that thing." All-Might mentioned as he looked over the two costumes.
"I've cleared it with the Support Class, sir! They've made the eyeholes into sockets so they can expand or focus when I blink." Sai explained; "The sleeves are to benefit my skill as well."
All-Might mulled it over but figured that if Power Loader was okay with green lighting the whole thing than it should be fine with him. "Alright students, now that we are all here…I can discuss the training we will be doing: The test for today is Team battles!"
"Team battles?"
"Is he thinking this is a tournament?"
"Hope I team up with someone good…"
"Now I know you students are itching to go but we shall draw lots to pick your partner….One side will be the Hero and the other will be the Villain Team." All-Might elaborated while trying to funnel out the numerous questions thrown at him. "Each of you pick a ball and I shall pair you all up!"
By the time that everyone drew lots, The teams each showed up on the boards along with their respective matches:
Team A: Izuku Midoriya & Ochaco Uraraka
Team B: Shoto Todoroki & Mezo Shoji
Team C: Momo Yaoyorozu & Minoru Mineta
Team D: Katsuki Bakugo & Tenya Ida
Team E: Yuga Aoyama & Mina Ashido
Team F: Rikido Sato & Koji Koda
Team G: Denki Kaminari & Kyoka Jiro
Team H: Fumikage Tokoyami & Tsuyu Asui
Team I: Sai Yakumo & Toru Hagakure
Team J: Eijiro Kirishima & Hanta Sero
Battles:
Izuku Midoriya & Ochaco Uraraka (Team A) vs. Katsuki Bakugo & Tenya Ida (Team D)
Shoto Todoroki & Mezo Shoji (Team B) vs. Sai Yakumo & Toru Hagakure (Team I)
Fumikage Tokoyami & Tsuyu Asui (Team H) vs. Eijiro Kirishima & Hanta Sero (Team J)
Denki Kaminari & Kyoka Jiro (Team G) vs. Momo Yaoyorozu & Minoru Mineta (Team C)
Yuga Aoyama & Mina Ashido (Team E) vs. Rikido Sato & Koji Koda (Team F)
Everyone all paired up with their assigned team member to varying reactions; Bakugo was annoyed and indignant that he got paired with the biggest stickler in the class while simultaneously sharing the mutual feeling about not being on a team with either Sai or Izuku.
Momo was uncomfortable for…A number of reasons considering that her partner was Mineta, though the others seemed to be relatively okay barring Izuku's bashful talk around Uraraka and Sai's…rather talkative partner.
"So, you're the guy that I'm partnering with? Can't say I'm disappointed, I'm happy that I got to hang out with the other person who's Quirk somewhat resembles mine." Toru mentioned as she sat on a nearby wall while Sai leaned against it.
"Oh uh…My Quirk isn't actually Invisibility…I can use mental powers like arms to manipulate stuff…Like this." He explained as he used one of his Vectors to lift up a discarded soda can and crush it before dropping it into a trash bin.
"What do you mean? It's still pretty cool, though I gotta ask…Why the helmet? It seems like a waste to cover up your cute face when it could make you real popular as a Pro Hero." Toru asked him as she tapped the top of his helmet; She was honest to a fault and she wholeheartedly believed that Sai could pull off the brooding bad boy look if he wanted to but she also knew that he was admittedly more socially awkward like Izuku was.
"Well, since my powers are based on my head…I don't really want anything to be a threat." Sai admitted, not quite catching that she just called him cute. "Well…I can still do this." Sai explained as he tapped his mask's sides and it popped open like it was a spring locked mechanism with a click. "It helps if I need to stretch my jaw or talk coherently."
"Or make it a fun surprise for the ladies when they see you~" Toru thought to herself; "I mean, my Quirk's not exactly anything special…You're pretty much looking at it." Toru sighed, of all the powers she could get and it had to be just plain invisibility.
"Hey, don't beat yourself up about it, lots of Heroes have some mundane sounding Quirks that can be used amazingly…You got Gang Orca, Kamui Woods and that seal Hero Selkie…They may not be first choices against Villains but with the right training and proper focus, I'm sure you can make your Quirk kick ass." Sai mentioned with a little more vigour that he anticipated, turns out that hanging around Izuku since they were kids rubbed off on him. "I mean, invisibility is awesome but strong enough invisibility could make things that you touch turn invisible or you can completely hide yourself from sight or sound even with any outfit."
Toru giggled a little; It wasn't often that people complimented her Quirk and even less people that called it awesome; "That's real sweet of you to say but you don't have to lie to make me feel better…" She said bashfully while trying to wave off what he said.
"Why would I lie? All Quirks can make a good Hero, you just have to know how to use it." Sai pointed out with a small but still reassuring smile; "Take it from me, I've had to keep that lesson close to heart when I first learned what my Quirk could do."
Toru sat a little closer to him as what he said was making her feel way better that she normally did and on a smaller level, what he said and with that smile: It was giving her butterflies and made her feel like she could take on the world.
"Man, she is just going all in with him…" Mina mused as she was half listening to Aoyama explaining the significance of his costume.
"Why couldn't I get him as a teammate? Or Midoriya for that matter…" Momo and Jiro both mentally complained since they were stuck with a potential future sex offender and a smart talking loudmouth respectively.
Soon enough the strategising time limit was up and everyone was called into the observation room so they could watch the first matchup: Midoriya's team vs Bakugo's team.
As the horn sounded; Sai found it hard to watch as Bakugo not only ignored Iida's warnings but he also took the first few seconds to rush in and bee line it for Izuku. "Sir, is this really an okay matchup? I know them both for a long time and this isn't going to end well at all."
All-Might turned to Sai and noticed the visible concern; "Young man, trust that as a teacher; I can ensure both teams will keep to the rules and that if anything should go wrong then I shall intervene." He mentioned seriously as he maintained the role of teacher. "Though I do have to admit, whatever animosity that Bakugo is showing Midoriya is rather concerning…Maybe Aizawa had a point about the three of them…" There was a warning alarm to shake him as the screen showed Bakugo aiming his gauntlet at Midoriya with the intent of firing it like a cannon, once the screen stopped shaking and the smoke cleared to show a partially blown up building; This gave him all the reason to issue a final warning. "Bakugo! Using an attack like that is dangerous and very reckless while indoors…Use it again and I will have to cancel the match along with disqualifying both yourself and Mr. Iida!"
While Bakugo did agree with not using his gauntlet shots, the alternative didn't look any better as the hand to hand combat became less of a training match and more of what looked like a vicious beating. Nearly everyone in the class could only watch in amazement at Bakugo's skill, however this also gave rise to thoughts about how far was he willing to take this.
"This isn't even an exercise anymore…This is just torture…." Sai thought to himself as plenty of the others including Tsuyu, Kaminari, Momo and Mina couldn't help but feel like it was excessive to watch.
Though it looked like it was coming to a head as both Midoriya and Bakugo clashed with a powerful updraft that knocked out all of the windows and smashed up the floors with Uraraka snaring the win by capturing the warhead.
"HERO TEAM WINS!" All-Might called out over the intercom while the medic robots ventured in past the shellshocked Bakugo to pick up Izuku and take him to be seen by Recovery Girl. "The next match that we have is Team B: Shoto Todoroki and Mezo Shoji as the Heroes vs Sai Yakumo and Toru Hagakure as the Villains! You four make your way down to the next building while we go over our last Teams' efforts!"
—Later—
Sai was currently using his Quirk to make up a barricade in front of the "Weapon" with nearby tables, chairs and even a cabinet, he didn't know exactly what it was but he had a vibe that there was something more to Todoroki than a frosty attitude. "I think we should split things up, Hagakure…Since you can become invisible and there's poor lighting in the building, we can use that to our advantage." Sai prompted as he looked to the door ahead and went to go get a chair to prop it against once she went out.
"Yeah, that's a good idea…I'll just sneak past 'em and then when they're not looking….BAM! I'll get the cuffs on them like…" Toru explained as she nonchalantly stripped off her costume which for her consisted of her gloves and shoes, normally she was fine with this but some mindsets remained the same and even moreso when she remembered that Sai was in the room while she was now technically fully naked; "Um…Do you mind not…looking at me?" She asked shyly and made an effort to cover herself.
"Oh uh..Right!" Sai realised that since she had her costume off, she could be anywhere and his gazing in a direction could be at her however the fact that she was practically unviewable made it hard. "Sorry…I'm not really used to the whole…invisible girl thing." He mentioned honestly as he tried to put focus on anything other than the invisible naked girl in the room.
"Well…I'm pretty sure I can let that look slide, since you're not deliberately being a perv~" Toru remarked to tease him a little, even though she couldn't show it, Sai could tell that there was a cheeky grin on her face but then the penny dropped. "Uh…Sai….Did it get cold in here?" She asked in confusion but then quickly gasped as a cold snap hit them and a wave of ice came towards them and then a sudden shout as Toru was now facing the cold temperatures.
Thankfully for Sai, he had opted for boots in his costume instead of going as a traditional martial artist so he didn't have to face the risks of tearing the skin from bare feet, however he still fell into that same pitfall of getting his legs frozen to the ground. "Shit….Holy shit this is freezing!" He thought as he heard the crunching of ice getting closer.
It looked like it was just Todoroki wandering in; "I wouldn't move if I were you, even in boots; You're still frozen to the ground and I'll just simply freeze you again if you try pulling free." He warned as he placed his hand just shy of Sai's chest. "I've seen how your Quirk works during the assessment tests with Aizawa and I can tell that you have a set radius to use your telekinesis since you always kept things at range."
"Pretty sharp, I'll give you that." Sai nodded along as he kept his gaze on Todoroki; "But you're forgetting something important when it comes to a close quarters encounter."
"If you're talking about your teammate then I wouldn't do anything if I were you, from what Shoji said; there were two of you running around and with the floor frozen solid; I don't think Hagakure wants to risk ripping any skin while barefoot." Todoroki mentioned as he felt like this was an almost assured win for him.
"No, but the thing you're forgetting is that if you're in close quarters with someone…You might want to watch your surroundings." Sai said with a smirk, then without warning or any indications; He made his move.
All Todoroki had to do was touch him to freeze him into an ice cube and he intended to do so if he struggled against him, though the fact that he didn't see but he felt a pair of palms sharply smack against both sides of his head to discombobulate him and knocked him off balance when his ears started ringing.
"TORU, NOW!" Sai yelled as he let his other set of Vector arms go and watched Todoroki collapse to the floor with a very specific indent of Toru landing on top of his back. The click of the cuffs on both of the icy boy's wrists made it clear that the winner wasn't quite so clear cut.
"A-And just like that, The Villain Team WINS! I never thought I'd actually say that out loud…" All Might called out in a shivering voice as the cold affected the observation room as well. "N-Now please warm up in here, Todoroki…Some of us need the heat."
"Mr. All Might! Tsuyu's starting to hibernate!" Someone called out as Tsuyu was now slumped against a chair and looking very sleepy.
"Too…Cold…Need nap…Gero…." Was all she could mumble as she tried to keep her eyes open while Todoroki used his trapped hands to thaw out the ice from the building.
-A Few minutes and a Few Heat packs later-
"So, who wants to review what we saw during that last bout?" All Might called on the group as the four made their way back in and everyone was back to room temperature.
Much like the last test, Momo was the first one with her hand up; "We've seen what happens when Heroes aren't careful."
"Exactly, though I'm looking for why exactly?" All Might clarified; "Yes, there are rare occasions that villains might either give a hero the slip or end up capturing one of the Heroes…But just like a Villain can make mistakes in a fight, Heroes can too so let's see if we can theorise."
Jiro then put her hand up; "Well, Todoroki went into the building on his own after freezing over the entire thing…So he wouldn't just freeze the villains if the building had hostages or innocent people on other floors…Even if Shoji told him there were two people in there."
"Okay, good…that's a good note, while it does hold a good image to have confidence, it's a fine line between confidence and arrogance." All Might agreed but then pointed to Sero.
"Well, Because he was more focused on trying to take Sai down on his own and prove a point, he didn't bother trying to check where he was in case Toru was hiding somewhere….He just talked about how he beat Sai by getting into his proximity." Sero detailed with a note of hesitation.
"Exactly correct! If the Silver Age has taught me anything, it's that you should never get caught monologuing…as a Hero or a Villain…Because Mr Todoroki was more fixated on trying to show that he had the advantage, he ended up putting himself in a compromising position." All Might explained and then added in an extra tidbit; "But one thing you have to note is Quirk Collaboration is also important, both for Heroes to work together and make their combined efforts stronger…While Villains will do the same…In short, The Heroes lost because of overconfidence and a lack of care while the Villains' quick thinking and element of surprise turned the tables."
Shoji looked rather disappointed at the fact that they had lost while Todoroki was quiet about the whole matter, the fact that he managed to get one upped by both Yakumo and Hagakure stung in several ways.
The day carried on as the other teams tried to show off their skills like the first teams did and ended up with varying results until it came to the end of the day as everyone was just vibing and letting things settle down. Though the highlights of the day wasn't just Izuku and Bakugo's intense fight, most of the others were crowding Sai about how he was able to get Todoroki floored. "Dude, that was amazing! You gotta tell us how you did that!" Kirishima grinned as he was surprised that Sai kicked butt like he did.
"How were you able to surprise Todoroki like that?"
"How did you know Todoroki's Quirk was gonna freeze the floor?"
"Or how Hagakure's butt felt when you grabbed her."
Sai looked to Tokoyami, Shoji and Mineta who respectively asked those questions and decided to rattle them off. "Quick thinking, I didn't and I'm not dignifying that with an answer."
The girls on the other hand were quizzing Toru about what it was like teaming up with him since he seemed pretty capable if he got the drop on one of UA's recommended students.
"So what's his Quirk like up close?" Jiro asked out of curiosity since she found the fact that he could invisible punch Bakugo of all things rather interesting.
"It's like…He has multiple arms, just that they're invisible…Nothing really that special but he's able to use them effectively." Toru mentioned calmly as she remembered the nice things he said about HER Quirk so she wanted to do the same.
"How did you get up there to drop on Todoroki like that?" Momo quizzed her as she had the more task oriented question between the trio.
"He just lifted me up in the air with a pair of his Quirk Arms and held me up before I could get frozen, then jumped out and threw all my body weight on Todoroki to cuff him down." Toru followed up.
"More importantly…How'd it feel getting naked in front of him~?" Mina said with the biggest and smuggest grin on her face as she decided to opt in with the first thing that entered her head. All this earned however was a blush from the girls that Mina had the surprising confidence to ask it while Toru was blushing because she had felt something entirely different.
"It…It was different, he had a very intense stare but it's not like he was deliberately trying to look…He actually looked kinda cute when he was embarrassed and flustered like that." Toru mentioned as the faint hint of pink tinted her cheeks.
"Oooo~ Someone's got a crush~!" Mina grinned and elbowed Toru's side to further tease her, earning a motormouthed volley of protestations from the invisible girl.
"Mina, can you stop teasing her? I think she's gonna explode if you keep it going, Gero…" Tsuyu mentioned as she was nice enough to try getting Mina off her friend's case. "Or are you just jealous that Toru got a team with him and you didn't?"
Mina was the one to blush as she was suddenly in the spotlight but quickly deflected it by glancing to the opening door; "I don't know what yo-Hey, look! Midoriya and Uraraka are back, let's go talk to 'em!"
While the others followed suit to ask Izuku about his amazingly strong Quirk and how he was able to kick butt even though he lost the fight to Bakugo.
"Heh, welcome to popularity, Izuku…Then again…I'm not exactly used to the whole thing either." Sai mentioned as the bell rang for the end of the day.
