"Where's Phoebe?" Prue asked as she and Piper experimented with a potential vanquishing potion for the demon that had sent Andras after them and Xander and Cordelia and inadvertently targeted Cordelia's parents. "Cordelia's birthday is in just a couple of days. If we're working on the potion, we need her working on the party."
"I don't think Phoebe's in either a party or potion making mood." Piper commented. "Hand me the cockles."
"Cockles?"
"They're over there next to the dried crickets."
"What are they?" Prue asked, picking up the container and peering at the contents.
"Small, chirping insects." Piper said sarcastically.
"Ha, funny. Not what I meant." Prue answered, passing her the container.
"I'm not sure actually, but some the most powerful vanquishing potions in the Book of Shadows have them as an ingredient in the potions. I'm hoping it helps supercharge this Belthazor vanquishing potion."
"So why's Phoebe not in a party mood?" Prue asked.
"She hasn't heard from Cole since the night of our big Andras inspired fight. She said he convinced her to come home and work things out with us, but he hasn't returned any calls since then and she's worried about why."
"And that's a bad thing?" Prue asked. "Aside from it hurting her feelings, I mean."
"Prue." Piper warned.
"You know what? I don't like him and I don't trust him. And it has nothing to do with him being a greasy lawyer either. Something about him feels off and has my instincts on edge."
"I think Phoebe's falling in love with him."
"Oh, boy. Maybe we should asked Coop for some advice."
"No." Piper said firmly. "Phoebe's a big girl now and we're going to trust her to handle Cole herself."
"And if it turns out I'm right?"
"You don't say I told you so. She didn't say it after Roger turned out to be an ass. And he lied and claimed she tried to seduce him."
"Alright, it's just, I worry, okay?"
"Of course you do, so do I, but until we know for sure there's something to worry about, we let Phoebe handle it. And if you are right, then we kick his ass."
"Hell, yes."
While Piper and Prue were working on a possible vanquishing potion for Belthazor, Belthazor in his demon form shimmered into a cemetery. He lost his balance and fell against a gravestone, hand pressed to the knife wound in his side, it had reopened and was bleeding again. He fought to regain his human form and once he had, he straightened painfully and moved away from the gravestone, a smear of blood unnoticed on it. He made his way out of the cemetery and blended with a crowd of humans.
Another demon shimmered into the cemetery and spotted the blood and touched it. "Belthazor, I'm getting closer." He murmured. "The bounty on you was set by the Source himself, you should feel honored. I'll be sure to tell you that when I catch you." He shimmered out, intent on finding his quarry.
Phoebe, having given up on waiting for Cole to return her phone calls and getting no answer at his apartment, decided to try his office instead. She found the door unlocked and walked in and looked around. She spotted someone sitting in Cole's chair facing the wall. "Cole?" She inquired. The chair spun around and she saw a man she didn't recognize is sitting in it. "Oh, I'm sorry, I was just looking for Cole Turner."
"Well, that's all right, so am I." He got out of the chair and walked over to Phoebe. "Reece Davidson. DA Bureau of Investigations." He showed her his badge. "And you are?"
"Phoebe Halliwell." She answered. "Is Cole okay?"
"How do you know him?"
"You didn't answer my question." Phoebe observed.
"I know. Look, I have no idea if he's all right or not. That's what I'm trying to figure out. Nobody's heard from his since Monday. Are you his girl?"
"Yeah, I'm his girl. Or at least we've been seeing each other for a couple of months."
"Well, did he mention anything to you about what he was doing? Where he was going?"
"No. A couple of weeks ago he had a suitcase packed but he said his plans had changed." She answered honestly.
"What plans?" Reese questioned.
"I don't know. Uh, something about a big case that he was working on."
"Hmm..." He picked up a folder. "Now, according to his filing he hasn't been working on a case, big or small. Not for a couple of months, since he started with the D. A.'s office actually. All he's done is file extensions. Makes you wonder what he's been doing with himself. Well, if you happen to hear from him or if you think of anything that might help," he handed her his card. "call me okay. Okay?"
"Yeah. I'll do that." Phoebe muttered as she took the card and hurried out, wondering what was going on. She headed back to his apartment to try again to find him there.
"Cole?" She banged on the door. "Please, Cole, I'm worried about you." The door opened and Phoebe saw Cole and the blood on his side. "Cole! What happened?"
"I was attacked, stabbed." He answered, swaying
"We've got to get you to the hospital!"
"No, I can't. Phoebe, just leave please, I don't want you caught up in this." He struggled to hold his human form, terrified he'd hurt her.
"Cole, tell me what's going on!" She demanded. "Why is someone from the D. A Investigators looking for you?"
"You didn't tell them anything, did you?"
"I don't know anything. Cole, please." She was begging now and she knew it, but damn it, his secrets were going to get him killed! She barely managed to catch him before he passed out and lowered him to the floor and did the only thing she could think of.
"Cordelia! I need help!"
