10/7/2656- Siege of Opponaru Drags On

"Today, it was revealed that the Sunuvral Republic's invasion of Opponaru has fallen behind schedule, with several objectives meant for capture as early as day 2 still being fought over with Union defenders. There are several reasons for this delay, two of which are poor coordination with the Republic's forces and unexpected resistance among the population. This is the Republic's first major ground operation beyond Sunuvral, meaning that complications were to be expected. However, the level of poor communication and low quality officers shocked all observers. Many of the officers in the Republic's forces are either mercenaries or former resistance fighters, who only recently moved from leaving small bands of fighters to commanding entire formations. Major restructuring has begun within the Republic's armed forces, though their nature has yet to be revealed."
