I knew Ryder was asleep, but I didn't sleep I needed to be sure nothing bad happened, plus I needed a plan. I mean how the hell was I supposed to get Klea a message or my dad. I had nothing and it was beginning to frustrate me, I hated this so much, like what the fuck could I even do. I had no idea who was doing this or if what even my fault. Like was I the target or was Ryder. I hoped to hell it wasn't Ryder because he was just a kid. I would take whatever this person had coming, I would do whatever I could to make sure nothing happened to Ryder. After what felt like forever someone walked into the room, they were wearing a mask, but I could tell it was a girl, they had long hair. "What do you want?" I asked, "you will find out soon enough, for now here" she said putting food in front of me she had some for Ryder too. "It is not poisoned yet anyways" she said laughing as she left. I should have tackled her like I could have taken her ugh. Ryder woke up, "hey bud" I said, "Max, I want mommy" he said, "I know I am still working out a plan, here eat some food" I said and he nodded. I watched him eat, and I ate a little too just to make him feel better. I wish I had more answers, like who was she? What did she want? I did think this had to do with me now and Ryder was just collateral. She brought him to get to me or to get me to do whatever she wanted, and I had a feeling I would most likely do it too.
I was such a soft cop ugh, like anytime someone I loved was in danger I would cave for them. Hell, I would give this woman whatever the hell she wanted as long as she didn't hurt Ryder. "Max, are we going to be, okay?" Ryder asked, "of course, I will not let anything happen to you" I said, "who is doing this?" he asked, "I am not sure yet, I am sorry Ryder I don't have the answers" I said, "is Uncle Chase looking for us?" he asked, "I hope so bud, but I don't know. I have no phone and I can't get out of this room" I said. Ryder looked at me and started to cry again, dammit like I didn't want to lie to him but I also felt like the truth was just scaring him more. The lady walked into the room again and she looked right at Ryder, "I see the little one is awake" she said, "what the hell do you want!" I yelled at her pulling Ryder behind me to protect him, "haha well Max if you must know. You had my husband arrested and had my son stolen from me" she said, "he must have deserved it" I said and she came at me and tried to hit me but I dodged her and pushed her over, I pulled Ryder with me and ran out of the room. I found a phone I had no idea whose it was but I ran out of the house. Ryder was slowing me down but I wasn't going to leave him, "run Ryder" I said as I noticed the lady following us and she had a gun, like why does ever criminal have a gun. I thought they were illegal ugh okay things just became worse. I used the phone and called 911 it was faster, "911 what is your emergency?" a lady asked, "my name is Max Chapman, I was kidnapped and I am running from a crazy lady with a gun!" I said. I didn't exactly have time to explain to her, but she transferred me I think it almost felt like she hung up, "MAX" I heard my dad, "Dad I need help" I said, "we are looking bud where are you?" he asked, "I um am running, I am not sure we are in a forest, dammit Ryder come on" I said as he was falling behind. "We are close Max hide" he said, "dad she has a gun" I said as she tried to shoot me again, I knew that if I stopped running she would catch up to us.
I felt bad pulling him along with me but he needed to run faster or he was going to get shot, and I couldn't have that, he was crying. "I am sorry Ryder but we need to keep moving" I said. "Okay" he said crying harder as he tried to keep up to me, "I will catch you MAX!" the woman yelled, I didn't doubt that she was fast and gaining on us fast. I had a 5 year old slowing me down, she had no one. I saw 2 German Shepards running towards me, Titan slightly faster and I smiled, as he ran full blast into the woman knocking her down. He bit her hand and she dropped the gun, then I saw Klea and my dad, "thank god" I said, my dad arrested the woman. "Vanessa nice to see you, I am sure your husband will be glad to see you" he said. Vanessa that was her name ugh, I am just glad no one was hurt. Klea hugged me, "are you okay?" she asked, "fine yes, Ryder?" I said. "I am okay too, I just want mommy" he said, Vanessa was put into a police car and Chase hugged me and Ryder. Titan tackled me and licked my face. I felt like he knew I was in trouble the whole time. He was pretty incredible, I had a feeling he and I were going to be a great team. Klea might be the brains of the operation but Titan and I were going to be unstoppable. I feel like we would be the ones doing the hard stuff and Klea would be the problem solver, the 3 of us would be amazing.
Another crime solved but at what cost to Vanessa, I mean did she accomplish anything? She just ended up in jail and that was not good for her son, my dad filled me in on who she was. Her husband was the one smuggling the Pangolins and I mean her son was better off without them both. I know he was in foster care now and he could live a better life. I still felt like I knew him though and I still had yet to place him, like where have I seen him before? It was killing me that I didn't know, "Klea that kid, Vanessa's mom why does he look so familiar?" I asked, "I don't know I have never seen him" she said, Titan barked and I looked at him he was looking at the photo of the man I was supposed to stop in the future. "No way" I said, "what?" Klea said, "its him the kid, he is going to be that guy I stop" I said, "no he is like what 8?" Klea said, "yeah but it is the future, we just need to keep an eye on him" I said. "Man our dog is awesome, he was on fire today" Klea said. "He is pretty incredible he knew you were missing before any of us. Led us right to Cassie's house" Dad said, I smiled and pet him, "that's my boy" I said and Titan licked me. We were now working with my dad and Ryder was reunited with his mom. I think he needed a male in his life and I still planned on talking to Cassie about that, Ryder deserved better.
