After school, we all walked home and I was glad for the school to be over for the day. I'm starting to get fed with April now. I called her mom, but there was no answer and I left word to have her call me before April gets home. Beth texted her parents to tell them she won't be home for dinner and told them the reason. They understood.
"I didn't want to mention it was April's mom who told me about the accident in case April was nearby," I said.
"Makes sense," said Beth.
"She said it was a good thing she didn't give April permission to go out with Andy," I said.
"And, it was a good thing you walked to the diner and called your father when you were done with the guys for a valid reason," said Kayla.
"It made me come to realize imagine if I kept quiet? I wouldn't forgive myself if April did got hurt or killed," I said.
"I agree," said Kaylee. "You did the right thing."
When I got home, Dawn and I were on porch waiting for Dad. Then, my cell phone rang as I went inside to go answer it.
"You sounded upset when I got your message. Did April apologize to you for not listening to you?" asked April's mom.
"No, that's why I called you before she gets home," I said. "Apparently, she knew I called yesterday because she yelled at me."
"Oh, really?" asked her mom. "She shouldn't have done that to you. You did the right thing by telling me, Mary Anne."
"Dad did tell me it's okay to take a step back. I think that's what I'll do," I said.
"I don't blame you if that's what you wanted to do," said April's mom. "April's not even home right now. You don't have to worry for the time being."
She offered to help, so she was giving me some advice on how to tell April about my choice. After we had a long chat, I made a decision that was best for me. I'm following my heart and Dad's advice. Since she was not grateful that I saved her life, I ended up blocking her number- I also did that on Facebook.
Dad drove in and I went to the car. Sharon is meeting us there. On the way, he noticed I didn't say a word.
"You're quiet," said Dad. "Is everything okay?"
"April was giving me problems," I said.
"Still?" asked Dad. "I thought she'd be glad you did something about it."
"I thought so, too, but she found out I spoke up to her mom and got yelled at by her," I said.
"What is wrong with her these days?" asked Dad.
"I did nothing wrong. I was just watching out for her," I said.
"Of course," said Dad.
"Let me get this straight: how can April, who was supposed to be your friend, be yelling at you for protecting them?" asked Dawn.
"Tell me about it," I said. "I was just talking to April's mom while I was waiting for you. She was very shocked about this and added she was supposed to apologize. I was just telling her that it would be better off if I take a break from her for a bit and she didn't blame me for that or being upset."
"Neither do I," said Dad.
"I would, it's not a healthy relationship for your sake," said Dawn.
"I give up for trying," I said. "I just blocked April's number from my phone and on Facebook."
"Good," said Dawn. 'That would teach her a lesson."
"I'm still considering changing schools," I said.
At the game, Dawn and I spotted April while we were in line for snacks and drinks. I wasn't thrilled for this. Her sister is a cheerleader for their high school. When she spotted me, I whispered something to Dawn- who agreed to go meet me back to our family- and I was trying to walk away to back on the bleachers not even talking to April. I wasn't going to let her spoil my time and I was not going to embarrass her in public- That is not me.
I walked away and go join the rest. Then, Dawn came back with our drinks.
"I thought you were helping Dawn," said Sharon.
"I was trying to get away from April," I said.
"She was here?" asked Dad.
"Yes," I said. "I just walked away without her seeing me. I didn't want to embarrass her in public."
"I don't blame you," said Dawn.
After it ended, Carlos' team won by three points.
"I won't be home for dinner. I'll be going out for pizza with my team," said Carlos.
"That's fine," said Sharon.
We left for dinner afterwards. I was glad to leave from there. Don't me wrong I love attend Carlos' games to support, but If I'd known April was going to be there, I wouldn't have bothered to go. I do not want to face her.
I'm trying to think about when will be the best time to tell him about what the guys did to my wallet. Then, I'm worried that Kaylee would be right about him being mad at me if I didn't tell him? No, I told myself. He's a very understandable person. I noticed my phone was already paid off. That's odd. He might have did it and I didn't know about it. He probably knew I had a good reason. Kaylee offered to help me tell him, but I wanted to tell him my own way. Now, I can focus on what I should do about them. I might do the same like I just did with April, but there would be no break. I'm considering to end things with them. I do know Dad told me if the guys were my friends, they wouldn't force to do anything I'm not comfortable with. I wasn't feeling hungry all of sudden. Why did that had to happen now?
On the way to the restaurant, Dad said, How are you making out tonight?"
"I'm doing okay. I'm glad I made the decision for myself," I said.
"Of course," said Dad.
"Honestly, I do not regret doing what I did on social network. I'm going to tell her in person when I see her, but not in school, I save it for later unless she gets on my nerves," I said. "I can feel a headache coming on."
"It's probably from all the stress that you've been dealing with," said Dad.
"Probably," I said.
"I had a feeling that was going to happen," said Dad.
"At least it didn't happen during the game, but I should've known she was going to be there," I said.
"I know," said Dad.
"Hate to do this, but I think I'll just go home and go lie down. I didn't feel like joining you guys for dinner," I said.
"That's fine," said Dad.
"I'm not sure if we have any Aleve. I should've thought about it, but I didn't expect this to happen," I said.
"No one does. You're not alone. Do you want to go pick one up now while we're out before I bring you home?" asked Dad.
"Sure," I said.
At the drug store, I went inside to get a bottle of Aleve. After he brought me home, he said, "Do you want me to bring back anything for dinner?"
"I'm not feeling very hungry, thanks anyway," I said.
"No problem. I already told Sharon I'll be running late while I was waiting for you and she didn't blame you for coming home," said Dad. "If you need me, you can call me."
