"What do you mean 'gaining time'?" asked Danny his sister. He was visiting his parents when some odd things started to happen. Or not to happen. Activities that felt like hours only lasted for minutes at most. When Jazz came from Yale, he told her. She said something about temporal powers, then that he was 'gaining time'. "That sounds like something I should ask Clockwork about?"
"Do that." she said. "But before you go, I have a question for you: How… is living with Vlad?"
"Surprisingly nice. I mean, of course because of the money, but also because I don't have to hide my powers."
She nod. "That must be nice. Something not possible here."
"Well, I visit Clockwork."
…
As he found Long Now with ease, Danny had the feeling Clockwork wanted to talk to him about the temporal thing. Flying in, he asked, "I assume you know about what Jazz and I talked?"
"Yes. And she is right, Daniel. You are gaining minor time powers." answered Clockwork, not bothering to be cryptic.
"But how is that possible?"
"Try to remember." And there was his typical vagueness.
"Well, I traveled time more than others, I… can copy powers, like Vortex that one time… Dan fused a medallion with me." said Danny slowly. "Is the medallion the reason?"
"Yes. It was fused with your core, Daniel. Back then, your core was not fully developed, in fact it still is not. However, your ghostly half influences your puberty, which in turn accelerates the medallion's influence." explained Clockwork. "On that note, your ghost side will change a bit soon. Be prepared."
"Should I worry about the temporal powers?" asked Danny. "Time is your thing."
"It is, isn't it? You don't have to worry. Not that I would mind an apprentice. Or assistant. I am sure you will have a lot of time in your hands in the far future." mused Clockwork, "But I doubt you would want to listen to the Observants."
"Listening to the eye balls sounds nightmarish." answered Danny. "Or like torture."
…
As time passed, no new temporal powers materialized, however he did note some changes. But not all changes were good. He started to sound like Dan! Sam did punch him when he gave them a scare at the lockers. "Admit it, you did it intentionally!"
Other than that, his powers got stronger. Which also means he lost his control at times. This was especially painful for Box Ghost. "Sorry Boxy!" he said when he froze Boxy solid the third time the week.
Then the fangs came in, which Vlad noted. Not a ghostly feature perse… but then again, Vlad is his biological father, he has fangs.
"Ah, Daniel. Yes, fangs hurt, but they are worth it."
"Doubt that." he replied, an ice pack being held to his jaw. "Not worth it. Still better than the voice, though."
"Why do you dislike your voice so much?" asked Vlad. "Your peers can only dream of such a deep, mature voice."
'My peers didn't have to battle their future self.' he thought.
"And you pretty much skipped that awkward in-between cracking. I was pretty much mute until it was over. And I had a normal puberty! I can't imagine how a ghostly puberty is!" said Vlad. "Albeit, I suppose the first few months after I got my powers could count as a secondary puberty. Oh, I remember a remedy when I got my fangs!"
"No need for that, father." he rejected. "I think I'll manage."
…
Slowly Danny got used to switch between Vlad's and FentonWorks. What he could not get used to was to hide, to hide is other half and the issues it brought. He lounged in his room, looking at the ceiling. The glowing plastic stars his dad put on were still glowing weakly, despite being on the ceiling for nearly a decade. If it wasn't for the ectoplasm sensors, he would paint them with ectoplasm, for a richer, eternal glow.
His dad came in. "Hey Danno!"
"Hey dad…"
"Is something wrong?" he asked. "I've noted something has been bothering you."
Danny sighed, he could not talk about the ghost stuff, the voice, gaining time, the fangs. "Just the same old puberty stuff, dad."
"So, you're tired! Got it!"
"Yeah, that too."
…
When he returned to Vlad, his father said, "Jack called me. You didn't tell him about your issues."
"Well, I can't exactly tell him I'm part ghost." answered Danny. "Or the thing with the time powers."
"Time powers?"
"Oh, right. You don't know. You're aware I know Clockwork, right?" said Danny.
Vlad nod. "I don't know if I should be impressed or be worried that you are in contact with the Master of Time. What about him?"
"There was a bad timeline, in which I turned evil, destroyed the world. Clockwork helped me to stop that timeline from happening. I sound like that future self and I can't stand it." explained Danny frustrated, his fists clenched at the last words. "On that note, my future self fused a time medallion with my core, so I developed a minor time power. I 'gain time'."
Vlad blinked. "That explains some things. Your utter dislike of your new voice."
"Adding to that, my powers got stronger, I lose control."
"That sounds like power output issues. Well, when you're here, you can use up that excess energy. Ghosts normally have nothing to worry about, their excess just becomes ambient ectoplasm, it becomes part of the Infinite Realms." said Vlad. "There is something you should know, Daniel. While I haven't proven it yet, I think we could be immortal."
"Clockwork and Death hinted at something like that, actually." admitted Danny. "Immortality… living out everyone."
"You met Death?!" Vlad lost his mind.
