Ch.2 Panther and the Siren
"Thank you everyone for coming. It is with a heavy heart that I announce that Tokinada Tsunayashiro has passed away peacefully just moments ago. A lawyer will be coming in the morning to go over his will. Till then I ask that everyone please take a moment to enter one at a time to pay your respects". Sosuke's great aunt announced tearfully to the gathered crowd of various members of the Aizen family outside of the room Tokinada's body lay covered with a white sheet over his body. He had been her sister's last surviving child and now that he was gone it was like she had lost a piece of her all over again.
"My condolences for your loss, Mr. Aizen". Gin stood next to his boss in the back of the crowd. Watching as the people in front of them showed a various mix of emotions from true grief to indifference, and even impatience and giddiness to see if they were mentioned on the late Tokinada's will. Gin supposed this was to be expected when one's family only valued you for your assets.
"Yes, it's unfortunate indeed, but I know my uncle is resting peacefully in heaven… or hell". Sosuke said that last part under his breath lest his great aunt hear and call him out for impropriety during such a sensitive time. "My second uncle was rather callous to those around him. I'm surprised my great aunt is shedding tears for him. As I recall he tried to send her to a mental institution because she had sole control over his assets including bank accounts due to his habit of what she deemed "misappropriation of funds".
"What does that mean"? Gin tilted his head.
"He was squandering his side of the family's fortune in the gambling dens and brothels throughout the state, so one day my aunt brought a lawyer to Tsnayashiro mansion and found a way to bind him to a conservatorship agreement against his will. She's had access to his assets ever since and even has her name on everything he owns. It wouldn't surprise me if she managed to sneak her name on his will bestowing herself a generous sum of his money".
"I see. Your aunt is quite cunning. It must be a family trait". A grin spread on Gin's face.
"Indeed". Sosuke continued to face forward as he saw the next family member enter the room. A small smile of his own appeared on his lips.
(Five days later)
"Welcome back, Sosuke. I received your telegram. I'm sorry about your uncle". Anju gave her husband a sympathetic look. They were in the foyer where a butler was helping the master of Aizen Estate with his coat and hat.
"Thank you my dear. Everyone was quite upset, but they all sobered up when the lawyer read his will. The man may have been inhospitable to the family during his lifetime, but he was quite generous with his distribution of wealth. No doubt my great aunt's influence". Sosuke handed the butler his coat and walked to stand in front of Anju.
"How have you been my dear? It looks like you've been eating well. Though you don't appear to be as big as a hippo". Sosuke looked Anju up and down and to the side in case she was hiding her hippo fat behind her earning a giggle from her and a chuckle from him. "I must say I'm a bit disappointed. I would've liked to have come home to see such a thing. I'm sure it would've been quite the spectacle". He pinched Anju's cheek and grinned.
"Oh, you". Anju chuckled at her husband's words while playfully swatting his hand away from her face. "I've been well. I read about what happened to Haschwalth Konzern in the papers a few days ago. It's too bad, but these things do happen. If only Herr Haschwalth diversified his trade routes sooner, the damage could've been reduced or completely avoided".
"What do you mean"?
"Haschwalth Konzern uses a single trade route to deliver its exports to other countries. It goes around in a sort of circle-like shape and stops at various ports until it makes its way back to Germany to repeat the process all over again. It's been like this since I was a little girl when Herr Haschwalth Sr. was the head of the company, and surprisingly is still the case even after Herr Haschwalth took over the konzern. Though sometime before the incident occurred, it was reported that Herr Haschwalth was looking to procure alternative overseas trade routes, but with the konzern needing time to recover from the incident, he's had to put this goal on the back burner until everything has stabilized".
"Where did you get this information"? Sosuke quirked a brow.
"From Kisuke, he sent a letter three days ago".
If what Anju had said was true and her information was from Kisuke then that meant Herr Haschwalth believed that he could recover from this setback and once he did, continue looking into finding alternative trade routes. Pondering what the hidden opportunity was that Anju wanted him to see. Sosuke's eyes lit up.
"Did you figure it out"? Anju chuckeld knowing the gleam in her husband's eyes meant they were on the same page about this.
"Your considerate nature knows no bounds, my dear". Smiling, Sosuke took Anju's hand and leaned down to kiss it. Holding her gaze, he smiled before standing back up straight.
"Of course". The blue-eyed woman crossed her arms and nodded her head. "My considerate nature is also why I've had tea, and a light snack prepared for your arrival. Would you care to join me for it in the drawing room"?
"I'd be delighted".
Extending his arm to her, she took it, and they walked to discuss the matter further in the drawing room over some refreshments.
"To think that once Haschwalth Konzern recovers, we will swoop in like the white dove with the olive branch in its mouth to negotiate the distribution of Aizen textiles and access to the Yugetsu trade routes for access to Herr Haschwalth's business connections in Germany. Of course, the agreement will include more than that, but these are the most important parts".
Sosuke poured Anju some tea and handed the cup and saucer to her. Like him, she preferred her tea plain unless it was black, then a sugar cube and some cream was her preference. Pouring himself some tea, he took a sip enjoying the warm feeling in his throat. It had been cold at his uncle's mansion and the provided food and tea were nothing like what he was accustomed to at Aizen Estate, and the lack of stimulating conversation from the rest of his family had led to Sosuke having a dull time.
Putting his teacup down he watched as Anju continued to sip hers. Sighing contentedly, he felt glad to be back home.
Putting her teacup down, Anju brought her attention to the man sitting across from her.
"I'm glad you think so. It would be a good opportunity for the Aizen company to expand into a foreign market as large as Germany's, and for the Yugetsu trade routes to get more business than they do currently. I should write to Kisuke to see if he could facilitate a meeting with Mr. Ishida Sr. and see what a potential policy for the coverage of Herr Haschwalth's goods would look like. I know it's early to even be discussing this with Ishida Insurance, but the sooner we see what we have to work with, the sooner we can make a proposal and send it to Haschwalth Konzern when the time is right".
Seeing that Sosuke had raised a fist to his mouth to stifle what sounded like a laugh, she felt an amused smile form on her lips as she watched her husband be overtaken by a laughing fit. It wasn't often that Anju had seen her husband laugh like this, but when she did, she found that he looked more human and less robotic as his eyes crinkled, and he appeared to be genuinely happy in the moment.
"Oh my. It appears my husband has caught a severe case of the laughing fits". Anju put on a tone of mock concern and placed a concerned hand to her chest. "I should send a servant to fetch a doctor for bloodletting at once". Anju jested as her husband continued to laugh. She had joked before about how laughter from him should require a doctor's assessment to make sure that he was still of sound mind since it was rare that he did it. That had earned a chuckled from the man who was now doubled over in front of her remembering the jest.
"Yes, I suppose I am coming off as mad right now, aren't I dear"? Re-clutching his belly, Sosuke continued to laugh, Anju smiled as she watched him struggle to compose himself.
Ever since their days of courtship, Anju was aware that her husband was not normally the emotional type as he preferred to be composed at all times. When dealing with others, he often wore a look of required politeness, or schooled indifference when it came to business courtesy of his father. It was a wonder to her how no one else could tell that he was faking his expressions as it was clear as day to her. Something she'd tease him about once they were in their carriage.
When it came to, her however, she noticed that Sosuke showed her a softer side and expressed his true feelings more with her. While she sometimes felt like something was off whether it be a gleam of something in his eyes when he told her about his business dealings, or looked to be gauging her reaction to something, Anju accepted that this was just how her husband was. With his background it made sense to her that he'd be this way, but she felt he truly was putting in effort for her sake, and that alone was enough for her, and he did treat her well despite-
"Don't' go there". Anju bit her upper lip to stop it from twitching. Putting on a fake smile of her own to
Having managed to settle down. Sosuke fixed his posture taking another sip of tea. "Forgive me dear, I didn't mean to concern you". He let out another laugh as he continued to get them out of his system. "It's what you said about sending a proposal to Haschwalth Konzern when the time was right. You got this look in your eye that I haven't seen in a long time". He put his tea cup down. "For a moment there she looked like my great aunt. How amusing. Don't you agree, father"?
At the thought of the previous head of the Aizen Estate a gleam of something flashed across Sosuke's eyes. Smoothing out his suit jacket, he ran a hand through is hair.
"I'm pleased to see that you have not lost your passion for business and that you are acting more and more like your old self my dear. Dr. Yamada's treatment must be making a breakthrough". He smiled. His eyes now had a softness to them.
"You think so"? Despite acting like she was happy to hear that her husband thought she was getting better, Anju didn't feel like she was that much different… Maybe he saw something in her that she herself was unaware of.
Biting her thumb nail, Anju tried to think about what it could be, so she could work on it, but nothing stood out to her.
Picking up the tea pot to pour himself more tea, Sosuke looked to see Anju's near empty one looked like it needed a refill as well. "More tea, dear"?
"Yes, please". Anju removed the thumb she had been biting and pushed her saucer forward watching as her husband poured the amber liquid into her cup.
(Flashback)
"I'm so glad that you've come to your senses my dear. Now we can be happy together. Don't you agree"? Sosuke handed his wife a cup of tea he had poured for her. He had invited her to the drawing room so he could get her out of her room instead of lying in her bed all day. The doctor said even if it was just to walk around the house that getting Anju out of her room would be good for her.
"…"
"That's alright, you don't have to answer. Seeing you get out of your room is more than enough for me. If you're feeling up to it. I'd like for you to join me in the dining room for dinner. I'll have
"…ok". Anju's head was down as the cup of tea sat on the table in front of her.
Eyes lighting up at the response, Sosuke smiled. "I'll have the chefs prepare on of your favorites so we can work on re-stimulating your appetite. I'd like you to try to take at least five bites if you can since you didn't have much for lunch today. I worry that I may have to have a servant force feed you if things don't improve soon, but I don't want to resort to that unless absolutely necessary". Sosuke put on a look of sympathy. In truth he had no qualms about resorting to any means necessary if it helped Anju recover, but that may cause more resentment and a willing participant was always easier to deal with than an unwilling participant.
"I'll do my best. May I go back to my room now"? Anju's head was still lowered
"Thank you. That's all I wanted to hear, and yes. I'll have a servant fetch you for dinner. Thank you for joining me for tea today, dear". Smiling. Sosuke watched as Anju got up and walked to exit the drawing room. She still wouldn't look at him which was to be expected, but he had hoped that when she saw that he was putting in great effort to help her recover she'd eventually come around. Taking another sip of tea, he looked to her still full cup and smiled.
"I suppose, I just need to be more patient".
(Flashback End)
"What is it dear? You're staring". Sosuke handed back Anju's saucer and teacup.
"N-nothing. I'm just honored to be served tea by such a handsome man". Anju beamed. She hated when she had to pretend that she felt something other than what she did.
"Why thank you my dear. It makes me happy that you still find me attractive".
"Of course". Anju took a sip of tea noting the herbal taste was stronger from the tea leaves having steeped in the water longer. She supposed it was ironic in a way as she had been steeping in the estate for so long but had yet to see any change in herself. Maybe one day she'd be strong like the tea leaves, and nothing would bother her anymore. "This tea is quite good".
"I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'll be sure to serve it to you again next time".
"I'd like that".
"My, that's quite the brilliant idea Mr. Aizen. In the meantime, we'll keep an eye on the situation to see if any new developments arise. It should take three months before we hear a more information on if Herr Haschwalth was able to recover or not". Kisuke wrote down some key notes from the plan Sosuke proposed to open their trade routes to Haschwalth Konzern. He'd have to speak to Mr. Ishida Sr. to see if something could be worked out along the lines of what Sosuke suggested.
"It sounds like a good plan. I look forward to seeing what becomes of this proposal". Mr. Kyoraku took a sip of water that smelled suspiciously like sake before clearing his throat.
"I as well. I will also be taking a trip sometime this year to visit our distribution managers in the trade district and review reports to get an update on our standing before we finalize the proposal". Sosuke smiled to the board of directors portraying himself as someone who was happy to be working for the sake of the Yugetsu Corporation.
"Yes, it's about time one of us goes to check up on our distribution managers. Thank you for volunteering, Mr. Aizen". Mr. Ukitake wrote down some notes to correspond with Sosuke before his trip so he could ask him to get other documentation in addition to the bi-yearly reports for filing purposes.
"It's my pleasure".
"It's rather late, Mr. Aizen. If you'd like you can stay at my mansion for the night. I'll have a room and warm meal prepared for you"? Kisuke walked with Sosuke out of the conference room. Both men were wearing coats and hats as they headed towards the entrance of the building.
"Thank you for the offer, Mr. Urahara, but that won't be necessary. My wife is expecting me, and I have more paperwork to fill out. I've already missed dinner, so she must be worried sick wondering where I am".
"You could send her a telegram and tell her that you'll see her in the morning".
Sosuke could see a hint of hopefulness in Kisuke's eyes. For some reason this man had been trying to get him to spend the night at Urahara mansion, but unfortunately for him, he would do no such thing.
"I couldn't possibly do such a thing. Anju prefers it when I'm home with her, and it hasn't even been a day since I came back from my last trip".
"Oh, that's right. My condolences about your uncle, Mr. Aizen".
"Thank you for your care, Mr. Urahara. I'll be sure to tell Anju that you said "hello"". Tipping his hat at the older man, Sosuke walked to his carriage seeing that the footman was holding the door open for him to step inside.
The whole time, Kisuke had been watching looking for any sign of inconsistency.
Seeing Sosuke smile and wave from the window as the carriage took off. Kisuke put on a friendly smile and waved back till he could no longer see the brown-eyed man. Putting down his hand he walked to his own carriage and sat down on the cushioned seat.
Taking off his hat, he ran a hand through his hair sighing.
"Dammit, he didn't take the bait. I know he's been trying to isolate Anju from me, but unless she tells me she what's going on herself there isn't much I can do since under law she's essentially her husband's property. One thing's for certain though. When I told him to bring a fresh perspective, not only did he say something that Anju would have said, he also acted like he came up with the idea himself. Mr. Kyoraku also has suspicions and Mr. Ukitake has stated that he also feels like something is off".
Looking out the window, Kisuke saw a line was formed in front of a small restaurant. The patrons seemed to be chatting away not minding that they were standing in the cold for a chance to be seated at the restraint chic looking bistro. In a way it reminded him of the Yugetsu soup kitchens. Feeling a small smile form on his lips, he smiled at the memory of when a five year old Anju had demonstrated how her mother had taught her to serve soup to the guests who visited the soup kitchens saying that when she was old enough to volunteer she'd be the best soup ladler ever.
Kisuke had chuckled at this. After patting her head, he had told her that, that was some dream she had, but unlike the smile at having been praised, or embarrassed blushed he had expected for her reaction, she had instead told him that it wasn't a dream. It was a goal, and she wanted to help people just like her mother and father. Ladling soup was just one of those ways. Her expression had been determined. Kisuke found the look suited her just as it did Mrs. Yugetsu who smiled from across the table at hearing her daughter's aspirations.
Closing his eyes, Kisuke reopened them looking at his satchel that sat in his lap. They contained the notes he had taken during today's meeting.
"I think there's more to this story than any of us realize. Hang in there, Anju. I'm going to get to the bottom of this".
"I can't believe we've been here for over two weeks". Yylfordt patted some cologne on the sides of his neck and chest. The scent of musk mixed with something green filled his nostrils.
Just as Ulquiorra had said, when Mr. Aizen had come back from his trip, they'd get the night off, and what a better way to celebrate than with drinks and women down by the docks.
"I'm surprised how easy it's been. Aaroniero made it sound like the job was much harder than it actually was". Nakeem took the bottle of cologne from Yylfordt and applied some to the sides of his neck as well. Tossing it to Shawlong.
"Don't listen to anything he says. Mila Rose told me the security detail likes to mess with newbies for a bit of fun because they're bored doing nothing but patrolling. According to her the mansion hardly ever gets attacked and if it does the threat is dealt with quickly, and if we hear anything that sounds like an animal being tortured coming from the basement to ignore it. That's just Ulquiorra showing their guest some hospitality". Di Roy finished tying his boot and unrolled his pant leg over it. Standing up he went to wait by the door for the rest of the men to finish.
"Is that what they call it here? Well, I guess changing up words is how Mr. Aizen hides what he really gets up to. Our official job title is "errand boy", but we actually go on assassination missions and do security detail. Though in a way, I guess we are sort of like errand boys". Grimmjow stood in the mirror while he finished shaving his face. Shaking some after shave in his hand, he rubbed his hands and applied it to the sides of his face, chin and neck patting them to cool down the burn.
"Yeah, delivering people to the afterlife". Di Roy chuckled followed by Yylfordt.
Ignoring the tasteless joke, Grimmjow gave himself one last check in the mirror running his tongue over his teeth to make sure nothing was in them. Turning around, he headed for the door of their quarters.
"Is everyone ready to go"? Grimmjow put an arm through his coat followed by the other buttoning it up. The weather was pleasantly cool by the estate, but by the docks it would be chilly.
"Yeah, let me just finish styling my hair". Edrad rubbed some pomade through his dark locks neatening his signature hairstyle". If he was lucky maybe he'd attract more serious female company tonight. In his younger years he'd made do with visiting brothels, but he was at an age now where the thought of settling down was more appealing than spending the night with a nameless stranger. Something the rest of the men had called him a sap for. Especially, Yylfordt and Di Roy. Those no good womanizers.
"If I didn't know better, I'd say you think you're going to get lucky tonight, Edrad". Yylfordt gave the larger man a teasing grin. "Why bother dressing to the nine's when you're just going to pay for services like everyone else. It's not like the prostitutes care what their customers look like so long as their cash is pretty. Ha ha ha". The blonde man laughed. As far as he was concerned, Edrad was doing too much.
"Who said I'm looking to buy services in the first place? I overheard some of the maids saying they were going to the bar we're going to, so it wouldn't hurt to make a good impression". Edrad folded the sleeves of his shirt neatly before putting on his coat and cap.
"Well, aren't you just the romantic. Aren't relationships in the estate forbidden anyway"? Di Roy picked his teeth.
"They are, but I'm thinking about my future once I leave the estate. I think after this assignment I'm going to retire. The maids are pretty here and some have goals similar to mine, so I wouldn't mind settling down with one of them".
"That's the stupidest thing I've heard yet from you. You really think guys like us can settle down and live a normal life? Ridiculous". Grimmjow stood leaning against the wall with his arms crossed.
"You say that boss, but I think even a man like you could find someone to settle down with". Edrad stopped in front of the blue-haired man. Giving his boss the look of someone who was hopeful for all of their futures to be more than their current lives were.
"With my background, I doubt it". Pushing himself off the wall, Grimmjow opened their shared bedroom door. "Let's go. The longer we wait the less time we have to get out of this stuffy place".
Walking out of the room, they headed down the hallway to the back entrance.
"I swear if you get drunk, I'm not carrying you home, you big lug". Yylfordt shot a pointed look at Nakeem. "You need to learn your limits". He scolded the largest member of their group remembering the time they had gone to a seedy bar after a long day's work and all five of them had to carry a passed-out Nakeem back to their at the time current living accommodations which was on the second floor.
"I already told you. My drink was spiked, but if you want to talk about limits. Weren't you the one who got so drunk you didn't even know up from down". Nakeem quipped without looking at the blonde man.
"A ha ha ha, you remember that"? He nervously laughed.
"We sure do. Remember when he pissed yourself and you thought you gained the ability to piss beer"? Di Roy laughed hysterically at the memory. Yylfordt was a riot when he was drunk. Though he was the only one who thought so.
"I did not". The taller man denied. "Did I"? He grinned putting an index finger to his chin as he tried to remember the events. Of course, he didn't remember it because he had been drunk, but it did sound like something he was capable of doing. Wouldn't be the first time he was told after a wild night at the pub that he had done something crazy.
"You did". Edrad nodded smirking at the memory of Yylfordt trying to show his newfound ability to Grimmjow who had run around the apartment while Yylfordt tried to make himself piss beer just for him. The rest of the men, except Di Roy had tried to catch him because the shark-tooth man had been laughing hysterically from the dingy run-down couch watching as the scene unfolded. Not even Grimmjow's threats to kill him unless he helped get Yylfordt under control made him get up from that couch. Even Edrad had to admit it was funny, but he respected Grimmjow's authority too much to not do as he was told to.
"Well, whatever you guys do. Don't get carried away. We have to conduct ourselves to a higher standard now". Grimmjow put his hands in his pockets to warm them up as he looked up at the moon while they continued walking to the bar.
"Yes, boss". The men said in unison.
"Whoa, so this is the dock. Zommari was right. This place is ripe with sin". Di Roy stared in wonder at the selection of bars, three brothels, and eateries he saw. It was like a paradise for men.
"Look, there's the bar, I was telling you about". Edrad pointed to a bar at the further end. Shouting and singing could be heard every time someone opened the door.
"Well, then let's go, boys". Yylfordt ran with Di Roy not wanting to miss out on the fun.
"What a couple of children". Grimmjow shook his head walking towards the establishment with Nakeem, Edrad, and Showlong following along.
"Can I get a lager on tap"! A customer shouted over the noisy patrons to the bar maid.
"Coming right, up"! A woman with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes filled an iced mug with beer. Placing it in front of the customer she held her hand out for payment. Taking a dime out of his pocket, he deposited it in her hand taking a long swig of the frothy beverage. Letting out a satisfied sigh, he put his mug down. "That hit the spot".
Entering the bar, Grimmjow looked around seeing that Ylfordt and Di Roy were already ordering drinks, so he walked over to an unoccupied booth to wait for them followed by Edrad, Nakeem, and Showlong.
"Well, what do you think, boss? It's livelier than the bars back home that's for sure". Showlong looked around the boss. Finding the more animated than he was used to atmosphere to be kind of nice.
"It's alright". The man seated next to him shrugged.
"Don't be like that. We're here to have fun. Are you still mad about Nnoitra"? Edrad asked looking around the bar to see if he could find any of the maids who said they'd be there. Seeing several seated together and some scattered about, he made a note to talk to them later.
"Tch. I don't want to talk about it". Grimmjow propped an elbow up on the table and rested his chin on it. Closing his eyes, he tried to think about something else other than that psycho pervert and that weeping princess who had caused his irritation.
"Did something happen"? Showlong asked.
"Earlier, Grimmjow and Nnoitra got into it and Ulquiorra had to reprimand them". Edrad explained recalling the events he had witnessed.
"Why"? Showlong furrowed his brow wanting to hear more details about the incident.
"Because our boss was on guard duty for Mrs. Aizen while Mr. Aizen was away last week, and that stick bug of a man was teasing him for it saying Grimmjow's balls must've turned as blue as his hair that whole week since he couldn't touch Mr. Aizen's pet. He's an antagonistic one that man. I don't like the look in his eyes either. It's like he purposefully tries to make people go over the edge so he can have an excuse to fight them. Though, I suppose I'm not one to talk since I used to be like that". Edrad grinned remembering how belligerent he used to be in his younger years.
"What do you mean? You still are". Di Roy grinned. He and Yylfordt had brought six mugs of beer and were passing them around the table.
"Cheers". Yylfordt raised his mug in a toast followed by the rest of the men. The clinking of glasses was followed by six men chugging down their beer. All setting out a satisfied sigh when the cold liquid started to burn their throats.
As the men continued to drink away. Grimmjow felt eyes on him. Looking around, he saw a woman with dark eyes and hair looking at him. He knew that look. "Well, if she wants me, she can come over herself". Grimmjow put his beer down taking a look around the bar. He saw some familiar faces as various servants and security details from the Aizen Estate had also come to the bar on their night off. He saw a bar maid bringing another round of drinks requested by one of the tables in the center of the room, and he saw the woman who had been staring at him earlier approaching his booth. "I guess, she's made up her mind".
Taking another swig of beer, the woman was now standing in front of the booth giving each of the men a knowing look.
"Evening, gentlemen. Are any of you looking to have some fun tonight"? She focused her eyes on Grimmjow sensually pursing her lips at him and lowering her eyelids, so they gave her a bedroom look.
"Heh, she's really putting on the works". Grimmjow had long since been desensitized to the tricks prostitutes used to entice him into spending his money on them, but when he had a yen for some female company, it didn't really matter to him what tricks they used so long as they knew how to get him off. "Do you have a room"? Grimmjow took another swig glancing at her.
"Of course. It's furnished and I have clean water that you can use to wash yourself with". She smiled tilting her head to the bar's door.
Taking the last swig of his beer, Grimmjow stood up and exited the booth. Looking the woman in her eye, he noticed that they weren't fully clouded with that soulless look most prostitutes he had come across had. "She must have a lover or benefactor or some kind". "How much do you charge"?
Hearing that the man had accepted, she took his arm and started leading him out of the boisterous bar. "Let's see…".
(Explicit Content)
Pushing herself from the headboard, she watched as he got up from the bed and walked to the vanity where a basin of water and worn towel waited for him. Dipping the towel into the basin and squeezing the excess water out, he used it to clean himself.
(Explicit Content)
"So how was it"? Miyako asked standing up to put on her robe that hung from the side of the headboard. She'd freshen herself up in preparation for the next customer after her current one left. For now, she'd straighten the sheets and fluff up the pillows.
Bending down to grab the sheet that had fallen to the floor during their session, she took it off the bed and shook it before putting it back on the bed and tucking in the ends.
"It was alright". Grimmjow continued cleaning himself, not even looking at the prostitute through the mirror that was attached to the vanity. Putting the soiled towel next to the basin, he gathered his clothes and began dressing himself.
"Just alright, huh. You're not much for giving compliments are you". She smiled as she smoothed the light comforter on the bed, used to men telling her all manner of things whether it was praising her skills, or trying to make her feel less than just because they couldn't get a proper lady and had to resort to her kind to feel any sort of intimacy.
Turning around, she waited for Grimmjow to finish.
When Grimmjow finished dressing, he handed the prostitute a lengthwise folded ten-dollar bill and left without saying a word. Shutting the door behind him.
"Definitely not one for giving compliments". Miyako shook her head chuckling to herself.
(2 weeks later)
"Get him"! Starrk shouted as the intruder tried to escape.
Running past several of the security detail, the blond teen wearing a butler's outfit dodged the approaching men and jumped over a hedge. He was losing them. Running past an archway covered in vines he entered what appeared to be a garden with lush tress, bushes, and even a fountain in the cetner. Running, he jumped over several bushed and ducked into another archway.
"I think I lost them". Gremmy caught his breath, he was somewhere on the west side of the estate, but needed to get to the south side so he could exit using the south gate.
Moving from his spot, he continued to run as he found himself at the south side of the estate until he saw something blue dart toward him from of the corner of his eye. Turning, he saw a man with blue hair coming at him from the side. Since he was fast, the spy had no choice but to confront him if he wanted to escape. Taking out his knife, he slashed at the man when he was close enough and slashed him on his leg and chest.
Ignoring the stinging sensation, Grimmjow thew a fist at the teen's head which he dodged only for Grimmjow to land a punch on the other side knocking the spy off kilter. Getting his bearings straight the spy rubbed his jaw.
"Not bad. What's your name, sir"? He grinned.
"Grimmjow Jaggerjaquez. You"? The turquoise-eyed man took out a knife from the strap on his leg.
"I'm Gremmy Thoumeaux. It's too bad I wasn't able to find those documents, I would've made a lot of money if I had, but I guess being able to fight you for a bit won't be a bad deal. Unlike the others you look like you might be fun to spar with". The teen's eyes lit up excited for the prospect of seeing what the man in front of him was capable of. Although he was a spy who specialized in information gathering and item retrieval, Gremmy had a thrill seeker side that appreciated anyone who proved to be a challenge for him. It was almost like a game trying to figure out how to defeat them. Something his boss thought was a distasteful habit of is.
"Well, we'll just have to see about that won't we". Charging at the boy, Grimmjow swiped his blade towards his face. Only to feel a slash on his waist. "What the"? Looking down he saw a red line begin to stain his shirt.
"What's wrong? You look like you're surprised? Not used to fighting someone who's been trained"? Gremmy taunted gleefully. Aware that Mr. Aizen took in ruffians straight from the street.
Looking at the boy with an irritated expression, Grimmjow ran towards him and swiped at his chest. Only to fall back as he narrowly dodged a swipe to his shoulder.
"What are you talking about"? Grimmjow dodged another swipe this time to his wrist. He was starting to get the hang of predicting this guy's movements.
"I can tell you got your fighting experience from surviving on the streets. You're moves are too rigid and you leave yourself too open. It's a shame really because I can tell with proper training that you'd be a good fighter".
"I already am a good fighter". Kicking the boy in the stomach, Grimmjow was able to push him back several feet.
"How overconfident. That ego of yours could get you killed you know"? Gremmy smiled dropping his knife to the floor and crossing his arms behind his back.
"What are you doing"? Grimmjow quirked a brow at the now surrendered boy.
"Your friends are coming and I'll be outnumbered, so I've decided that I'm giving up. Is that surprising"? The boy tilted his head to the side pleased to see a look of confusion on Grimmjow's face
"Why"?
"Because it's more fun this way, silly". Gremmy answered as if it were the most obvious thing.
Grimmjow wasn't sure why this spy would let himself get caught, let alone why he thought it would be fun when he'd just end up tortured in the basement by Ulquiorra, but based on how he acted maybe this boy just wasn't right in the head.
"Grimmjow? Oh, good. Looks like you caught the spy". Starrk walked up to his partner and looked down at the blonde boy with his hand on his holster. "Are you giving up"?
"Yes, I am". Gremmy nodded still smiling like this was all one big game to him.
"Then stay where you are and put your arms up". Walking up to the boy, Starrk began patting him down to make sure he didn't have any other hidden weapons.
"I'll take it from here Starrk. Mr. Aizen wants me to have a chat with our guest". Ulquiorra walked past Grimmjow without acknowledging him. Holding the boy by the upper arm, Ulquiorra walked with him taking him to the basement, but once they walked past Grimmjow, Gremmy spoke from over his shoulder.
"It was nice getting to know you, Grimmjow. We should do this again sometime". Giving the man one last grin, Gremmy faced forward as Ulquiorra led him away.
"You got pretty beat up there" Starrk gestured with a finger to all the cuts he could see on Grimmjow. "C'mon I'll take you to the infirmary". He put a hand over his mouth yawning.
"You better follow him, boss". Showlong spoke up. He had gotten there after Ulquiorra but did not say anything while the green-eyed man took away the intruder.
"Why? You worried about me or something? You've seen me get wounds way worse than this" Grimmjow grinned.
"No, but it wouldn't hurt to get your wounds checked out. It wouldn't do good if they got infected".
Seeing that Showlong would not budge on the matter, Grimmjow sighed running a hand through his hair.
"Fine, but when I get back you better not treat me like I'm an invalid". Grimmjow said, alluding to Showlong's habit of babying him whenever he was injured or sick
"Yes, boss". Showlong nodded his head.
Walking back to the mansion, Grimmjow followed after Starrk who led him to the infirmary.
Watching as his boss walked away, Showlong felt a small smile grace his lips.
"I worry about you for good reason, Grimmjow. You saved my life after all, so the least I could do is return even a bit of the kindness you showed me".
Taking another route, Showlong headed back to his post. Walking by the garden's fountain, he paused when he saw movement coming from one of the second floor's long windows. He hadn't seen who was there but knew that someone had seen what had occurred moments before. Not paying it any more mind since it was none of his business, he passed by the garden's fountain and walked towards a vine covered archway.
"What happened"? Anju curiously looked over a bloodied Grimmjow. She had been walking towards the corridor that led to the dinning room and kitchen to get a snack for her and her maid when she saw Starrk and Grimmjow enter from the back entrance to go to the infirmary. Curious she had followed to see what had happened.
"None of your business". "It was an accident, mi 'lady. I fell… on some rocks".
"I've never seen a rock make those kinds of wounds before. Did something happen"? Anju asked worriedly. Getting a closer look at how deep the cuts on Grimmjow's body were.
"No, ma'am. He speaks the truth. A squirrel jumped out of the bushes and scared him so bad, he fell on some rocks. I saw it with my own eyes". Starrk nodded his head, the faint smile on his lips quickly disappeared. He knew what he said would piss Grimmjow off. Anything that made him out to be less than tough would. Stealing a glance at the man beside him. He was right. Grimmjow was fuming but tried to keep it together in front of Anju.
"Is this really what happened"? Anju looked at him with sympathetic eyes.
"Yes, every word of it". Grimmjow nodded trying not to grind his teeth at having been made out to be pathetic. He hated that he had to make himself look weak just so Anju wouldn't find out that someone had broken into the mansion. Even though, she seemed to know some stuff, Starrk hadn't told her about the incident, so he assumed it was supposed to be a secret.
"You poor thing". Anju looked to the torn and bloodied white shirt that Grimmjow had been wearing that laid next to him on the cot. "I'll be right back". Lifting her skirts. Anju ran off.
"You better thank her when she comes back". Starrk's arms had been crossed and his eyes were now closed.
"Huh"? Grimmjow looked to the man wondering why he'd need to thank the blue-eyed woman.
Seeing Dr. Granz bring a medical tray with two tubs, cleaning solution, disinfectant, towels, bandages, and ointment. Grimmjow looked into the doctor's yellow eyes. Despite Dr. Granz's cheery expression, he could tell something was off about him. Just like everyone else he met at the estate.
"Your wounds aren't deep, so you should recover from them quickly". Dr. Granz grabbed a stool from behind him and started cleaning Grimmjow's injuries. Grimmjow could have sworn he saw the doctor's eye light up every time he tensed in pain. It was pretty creepy.
Ten minutes later Grimmjow found his wounds had been cleaned, ointment was applied, and they had been bandaged professionally. Despite the unhinged feeling the doctor radiated, Grimmjow though his work was pretty good.
"All done". Dr. Granz stood up to go wash his hands. "I'll write a note temporarily excusing you from duty so you can rest for the next four days. Don't do anything strenuous and be sure to eat well and drink lots of fluid".
Drying his hands, he walked to the medicine cabinet and took out a bottle of white pills putting some in a metal tin for Grimmjow to take in case he felt his pain worsen over the next few days. "These are aspirin pills. Take two every four hours for pain management, but no more than that".
Putting the tin and note into his pants pocket. Grimmjow heard the sound of heels coming down the hallway towards the infirmary.
"Oh, good. You're still here. I found some of Sosuke's old clothes that haven't been donated yet to replace your damaged ones". The woman handed the bundled shirt and pants to him.
Remembering what Starrk told him, he took the bundled clothes and thanked Anju for them.
"You're welcome. When I saw your only outfit had been ruined, I felt I should replace it. It's a good thing you and my husband are around the same size".
"How do you know I only have one outfit"? Grimmjow asked buttoning the shirt he had been given. He'd change into the pants when he got back to his quarters.
"Anytime new workers come to Aizen Estate their belongings are thoroughly checked, but neither you nor your men had any belongs aside from the clothes you were wearing, so I figured, it was the only outfit you had. It's the least I could do since those rotten squirrels ruined your clothes".
Looking up, Grimmjow saw Anju put a hand to her mouth to stifle a laugh. "I know how your shirt really got ruined. I saw the whole thing from my bedroom window with my maid, we had a good laugh about your squirrel story. I meant it when I said I'm aware of the kind of people my husband employs. That includes what goes on in and outside the estate".
"Is that so". Grimmjow buttoned the last few buttons of his shirt and stood up from the cot.
"I've asked the chefs to prepare you something and I've asked a maid to deliver it to your quarters when it's ready. You must be hungry". Anju smiled as she watched Grimmjow pick up his soiled shirt. Likely intending to throw it away or see if he could get a maid to wash and mend it for it.
Seeing that Starrk was signaling from behind Anju for him to thank her again, Grimmjow shifted his eyes to the silver-haired woman. "Thank you, mi 'lady".
"Of course, I hope you feel better". She nodded.
Grimmjow looked into the woman's blue eyes. He didn't see anything that really stood out to him except for genuine care and warmth. It made him feel uncomfortable. "Me too, ma'am". He bowed his head moving past her. Nodding to Starrk who nodded back, he exited the infirmary so he could go to his quarters to get some rest and see what the maid Anju has asked to bring him food would give him.
"Squirrels, huh"? Anju stifled another giggle.
"What can I say". Starrk shrugged. "I thought it would cheer you up to watch him fume a bit. I almost blew my cover myself. He's an easy one to rile up".
"Oh, it did. Your sister says "hi" by the way. I'm thinking of having a little tea party in my room. Would you care to join us"? Anju smiled up at the taller man.
"I'd be honored to, ma'am". Starrk bowed at the waist. Something that earned another giggle from Anju and a chuckle from himself.
"I would offer to invite you as well, Dr. Granz, but I know you are not fond of such things". Anju turned her attention to the pink haired doctor
"Don't worry about me, Mrs. Aizen. I'll be having my own fun sometime later today or tomorrow". The doctor's eyes glowed. He had been informed that Ulquiorra had a new specimen, er, guest in the basement, and after he was done with said guest, Dr. Granz was allowed to do as he pleased with their guest or their guest's cadaver. It didn't matter to him if they were alive or not. He had plenty of experiments he could do to either or.
Turning to face Anju, he smiled without it reaching his eyes. "It's always a pleasure to see you, Mrs. Aizen. Take care". He bid farewell as Anju and Starrk exited the infirmary.
Finishing cleaning up, Sayel disinfected the cot and changed its sheets for clean ones. Walkign to his desk he wrote down all the things he wanted to do when Ulquiorra informed him that he was done interrogating the guest. A nasty grin spread on his lips.
"Where you able to find anything, Gremmy"? Ryuken Ishida sat on a red lounge chair in his office.
"I checked his office, but didn't find any incriminating evidence".
"I see". Ryuken nodded. It didn't surprise him that Gremmy wasn't able to find anything since Mr. Aizen was a rather meticulous individual. It was known between him and Kisuke that he was the reason behind the ordering of several dispicable crimes, but due to lack of evidence, he was never suspected, let alone caught for any of it. It would seem his home was just as meticulous as he was.
"How was Anju"? Kisuke asked from the lounge chair he was seated in.
"She seemed ok. I wasn't able to slip her the message you gave me because I was caught by one of the butlers before I could sneak into her room, so I swallowed it. Though I don't think that man was a butler". Gremmy tapped a finger to his chin grinning as he remembered his time in the basement.
The man hadn't gotten far with torturing him because a man with silver hair had entered informing him that Mr. Aizen needed to speak to him about something. The look he had given Gremmy before leaving had promised that when he returned Gremmy would be subjected to something distasteful. It had excited him, but alas, it was time for him to escape, so he wouldn't get to see what the green-eyed man had planned for him.
Remembering the man with blue hair, he bit his thumb trying to calm his excitement while he was in front of his boss and his friend lest his boss scold him for displaying his bad habit in front of a guest.
"I wonder what will become of you, Mr. Grimmjow".
"Did anything else happen? How about any potential allies"? Ryuken asked seeing the boy before him had a dreamy twinkle in his eyes. The boy was too easily distracted when something or someone interested him, but this time Ryuken had felt relief instead of mild annoyance to see that Gremmy was acting like his usual self.
"Based on what I saw, I don't think any of the staff at Aizen Estate are willing to trade sides since the impression I got was that had them all by the balls".
"Gremmy". Ryuken warned.
"What I meant to say was". Gremmy scratched the back of his head smiling sheepishly. "That he likely has dirt on all of them or made them offers that they couldn't refuse".
"I figured that was the case". Kisuke sighed tapped his fingers on the arm of the lounge chair while the other was propped as he rested his cheek on his fist.
The mission had been a failure since his note had not been delivered to Anju, but it wasn't a total waste of time now that he knew she was at the very least doing ok. He just had to pray that she remained that way till he could find a way to meet with her.
Looking at Ryuken, Kisuke stopped tapping his fingers and put his arm down. "I think for now we should let the incident cool off before I try something else. Thank you for your help, Mr. Ishida. I appreciate it".
"The pleasure is mine, Mr. Urahara. While my wife's illness was deemed to be incurable. The medicine you were able to smuggle to us allowed my son and I four more months with her. Letting you borrow one of my spies is the least I could do for such a precious gift you have given us".
"Of course". Kisuke smiled nodding. If you and your son need anything that I'm able to provide don't hesitate to ask. If you'll excuse me, I need to go back to the drawing board".
(One month later)
"Over here seems fine. I guess I'll go check out the next section". Grimmjow gave the area one last look around. "Yylfordt. I'm going on ahead. You and Di Roy stay here. I'll call for you if I need it". He turned behind to address the blonde man who was scoping out a section of the area he was assigned to.
"Sure, boss". He nodded. Walking away to find Di Roy so he could relay the message.
Continuing to scope the area as he walked from the western side of the estate, Grimmjow made his way to the southern side where the garden was located. A cool breeze had whistled through the trees shaking their leaves before dying down. It wasn't until he got closer that he heard something that sounded like crying. Curious, he walked closer and stopped behind a tree peeking out to see who was crying by the garden's fountain.
In the moonlight, he could see a figure wearing a white night dress and shawl over their shoulders with long silver hair that flowed past their low back. It was Mrs. Aizen.
"Why am I not surprised". Grimmjow put a hand to his forehead as he shook his head. Deciding that he didn't want to get involved, he backed away slowly. If he pretended like he hadn't seen her, then he wouldn't be held responsible for her. It was a solid plan that made sense, until he stepped on a twig. Freezing he cursed under his breath.
Anju turned to where the noise had come from and wiped her eyes with her shawl. "Is someone there"? Sniffling as she tried to stop crying in case someone was.
Deciding that it was best to reveal himself in case there was a misunderstanding. Grimmjow stepped from behind the tree revealing himself to a pair of red puffy blue-eyes.
"I heard a noise and came to investigate. I'm sorry for disturbing you Mrs. Aizen". Grimmjow bowed his head.
"Anju". The woman wiped another tear away.
"What"? He returned his gaze to the woman in front of him crossing his arms.
"I'd prefer it if you called me by my name. I request this of anyone who works at Aizen Estate while it's just us one-on-one". Anju's sniffles were quieting down.
"Ok…Anju. What are you doing out here at this hour? Do you need me to escort you to your room"? "Please say yes, I have a patrol to finish, and I can't do that if I have to wait with you till you go inside".
"I was staring at the fountain and some water splashed into my eye because I got too close. It's chlorinated so it burns. That's why my eyes are so red". She lied.
She continued to watch as water gently flow from the mermaid's urn. The fountain had been a gift from Sosuke depicting her star sign to encourage her to get out of her room.
When she first saw the bronze sculpture that depicted Aquarius as a mermaid with long flowing hair and a beautifully crafted tail, she thought it looked magical and was reminded of the fairy tales her mother and father used to read to her when she was little. It was a comforting sight that quickly became a safe place for Anju to shed tears whenever she remembered something unpleasant and needed to sooth herself. It was her one true comfort, and she hoped Grimmjow didn't force her to leave when she needed some time to collect herself.
"Right. … and you felt the need to stare at a fountain at one a.m. in the morning"? "Dammit, Grimmjow! Why are you asking about things that are none of your goddamn business".
"It's better than stumbling home drunk around two a.m. on your days off and relieving yourself in the bushes just because you're too lazy to head back to the mansion to do it when you're on patrol". Anju glanced at Grimmjow seeing a slight tinge of pink had dusted his cheeks. Letting out a breath from her nose she smiled.
"I can see most of the garden from my bedroom window. If it makes you feel better, I haven't told Sosuke you're the reason why his bushes have started to turn yellow".
"I- thank you, mi 'lady". It won't happen again. Grimmjow bowed his head, he had no idea that anyone was watching, and he'd seen other details relieve themselves in the bushes on occasion, so it's not like he was the only one who was too lazy to walk back to the mansion to do it.
"So". She turned to face him fully. "Do you and your friends go by the docks on your day off".
"…".
"You can tell me".
"Yeah. What of it"?
"In that case, I would like to give you some advice. There is a whore house by the name of Madame Iba's Brothel. Stay away from it". Anju's expression turned serious.
"Why"? Grimmjow blinked. Recalling that was the name of the brothel he'd sometimes go to on his days off.
Turning back to the fountain, Anju looked at the mermaid's sculpted face. "Sooner or later anyone who goes there gets a venereal disease that makes their lower part fall off".
Hearing this, Grimmjow felt a chill run up his spine. "What are the symptoms"? Grimmjow's tone had an edge of fear to it.
"I'm not sure". Anju shook her head. "All I know is that every once in a while, Dr. Granz has to deliver the unfortunate news to a security detail or servant that they caught the disease, and there's nothing he can do to cure them". Anju turned her head towards Grimmjow who looked like he was fighting the urge to check if his dick was still attached.
"So, tell your men to be careful as well. The girls at Madame Shutara's Flower Garden are subjected to monthly check-ups so you're less likely to catch anything, and she even requires customers to use condoms. They are on the more expensive side because of this, but at least your prostitute for the night will be clean… I'm joking". Anju started laughing at Grimmjow's expression. Annoyed that he had fallen for such a trick he narrowed his eyes at the laughing woman.
"Well, not really. It's true that Madame Shutara holds her girls to a higher standard, and while there is no venereal disease that could make your part fall off. I've been told by patrons at the Yugetsu soup kitchens that getting one will make you wish your part would fall off".
"For a lady, you sure talk about vulgar subject matter easily". Grimmjow watched as the woman adjusted her shawl.
"That's because I've been desensitized. When I was more involved in the soup kitchens, I'd hear all sorts of stories about people's daily lives. I wish more brothels could be like Madame Shutara's. Seeing the occasional women who got pregnant by an unknown john or the people who had the misfortune of contacting a venereal disease was quite sad, but the hardest part was seeing the children who got into prostitution or dangerous jobs like drug trafficking and arms dealing just so they could survive". Catching herself, Anju gave Grimmjow a sheepish smile.
"My apologizes, I've probably taken up more of your time than I needed to. I'm really passionate about my philanthropic work, so I have a habit of rambling about it. You must be busy patrolling the estate grounds. It's a bit chilly so bundle up". Anju smiled turning back to the fountain.
"As much as I'd love to go about my business. Since I know you're outside, I can't just leave you out here by yourself. I have to stay with you until you decide to go back inside. Otherwise". He paused smirking.
"I'll get my eyes gouged out". He made a scooping motion with his index and middle fingers towards Anju's eyes causing her to put a shawl covered hand over her mouth as she giggled.
"Did Starrk tell you that? He's joking. He prefers to shoot his targets. He only scooped that man's eyes out because Sosuke ordered him to".
"I see. But how do you know this? Aren't we supposed to keep stuff like that a secret from you"?
"Can anyone keep something that's out in the open a secret"? Anju quirked an amused brow.
"Fair enough". Grimmjow chuckled. "But what about wanting to speak with us so casually? Aren't you supposed to address us as your servants or something"? Grimmjow quirked his head to the side.
"That's because my father and mother never really paid mind to the strict order of the hierarchy. Even though our servants at Yugetsu Estate used our proper titles, and we used there's, we didn't really see that as good reason to treat them or any of the patrons at our soup kitchens as less then, but just for you. I will take back my request to call me by my first name when it's just us and you may refer to me as Mrs. Aizen at all times. Don't let the other staff find out that I've only given you this special privilege Mr. Jaggerjaquez". Anju grinned.
"Wouldn't dream of it, Mrs. Aizen". He smiled thinking that his bosses wife may not be that bad.
"Now be honest". Anju's expression turned teasing. You thought I was some innocent spoiled rich girl, didn't you? That's why you still act surprised that I know so much".
"Just a bit". He made a gesture with his index finger pinching closer to his thumb snorting when Anju replicated the gesture snorting herself because she knew Grimmjow was lying. Lowering his hand, he re-crossed it with his other arm, and turned his head to look at the Mermaid in the fountain. It must've been expensive to commission. "So how long are you going to be out here for anyway"? He turned his gaze back to Anju's.
"Why are you eager to walk around the estate another five times before taking a break to pee in the bushes"?
"You look out your window often"?
"I sometimes have a hard time falling asleep, so when that happens, and it's too cold to come to the fountain, I look out the window and count how many times whoever's on guard duty walks by my window. It's like counting sheep, but with people".
"Are you going to report me"?
"For what? Peeing in the bushes on your break? Of course not. Such a thing is of no consequence to me and it's not like you're the only one who does it. So long as you don't flash your part at me, I don't really care which bush you pee on".
"I wouldn't do anything like that" Grimmjow shook his head grinning. "If I did, you would've gotten a show. I may even find myself becoming the new head of the Estate".
Shaking her head, Anju fanned herself with a hand as she felt her body heat up from laughing so much. "I swear. Men have the strangest habit of overestimating their size".
"I'm not exaggerating. Ask any of the prostitutes by the docks when they come by your soup kitchens. They'll tell you.
"I'll be sure to ask them when I get the chance" Anju hid her face in her arm as a loud snort escaped her throat at Grimmjow's insistence. Bringing her head up she chuckled. "Though you should know what a prostitute tells her john and what she tells her fellow girls are two different things. So don't be too disappointed if what you were told and what they tell me are not the same thing".
"You're kind of mean you know that. I thought you were supposed to be a kind woman who cared about the wellbeing of others". Grimmjow teased.
"I do". Anju nodded.
"Then why don't you care about my wellbeing. I can't even piss in peace without you watching me from your window".
"I do not". Anju scoffed giggling as Grimmjow used his hands to cover his body as if Anju was some sort of peeper.
Removing his hands, Grimmjow chuckled as Anju continued to laugh at the man's antics.
Glancing at the mermaid's face one last time, Anju turned to fully face Grimmjow. "I suppose, I should go back inside now. Thank you, Mr. Jaggerjaquez for lifting my mood. I feel much better now".
"Grimmjow".
"What"?
"If I'm to use your first name, you can use mine" The man before Anju nodded his head. His eyes had softened slightly.
"Well, then Grimmjow. I hope your patrol goes well". Giving him a smile, Anju walked back to the mansion.
As Grimmjow watched her shut the door to the back entrance. He heard a noise behind him. Turning around he saw Di Roy approach him.
"Why aren't you back at your post"? The softness in Grimmjow's eyes disappeared.
"Sorry, boss. Yylfordt and I finished patrolling the area and thought one of us should join you. What are you doing here? Did something happen"? Di Roy looked around but didn't see anything
"I needed a piss break. Go back to your post until I send for you". Grimmjow started walking away scoping out the rest of the southern side of the estate.
"Yes, Boss".
(Four days later)
"Still crying, I see". Grimmjow walked up to the fountain.
"Still spying on me, I see". Anju smiled wiping away her tears.
"You're the one who said you watched me piss from your bedroom window. If anyone's the spy it's you". Grimmjow pointed his index finger several times at her in jest.
"Is it really my fault if I just so happened to look out while you just so happened to be reliving yourself at the same time"?
"No, I guess not".
"Find anything of interest on your patrol"?
"Just some siren crying by the fountain".
Laughing, Anju wiped another tear away. "Careful, Grimmjow. I may lead you to your death with my siren song. But if I'm a siren, what are you"?
"A panther".
"A panther... The siren and the panther… No, wait. Panther and the Siren. Doesn't that sound like it'd make a good book? It could be about a not so good man who comes across an evil wizard that turns him into a panther and while he travels to see if he can find the wizard to change him back he stumbles upon a siren in need of help, but initially brushes her off until he realizes that he can make money off of her beauty and talents when he becomes human again, so he brings her along, but after getting to know her, something within him changes and he revels his past to the siren that he was once a man who only cared about himself, but the siren does not judge him, she instead continues to offer her patience and kindness as he gains his humanity back and with new found strength is able to defeat the evil wizard and he and the siren are able to live happily with their new found life. Doesn't that sound romantic"? Anju beamed telling Grimmjow her idea.
"I guess". He shrugged
"Of course you would react that way. You probably think it was boring because it lacks over done bloodshed, but I could always add a battle with a poacher or another mythical creature. How about now"?
"Better". Grimmjow shook a flat palm
Letting out a sigh Anju snorted at how hard to please Grimmjow was being. "How about this. The panther eats the siren and the warlock eats the panther".
"That sounds like a great book. Can't wait to read it".
Grimmjow felt his grin fade to a smile at the sound of Anju's giggling at his enthusiasm for her heavily modified story. It was pleasant.
(Two weeks later)
"You again? If I didn't know any better, I'd say you purposefully come out here just to see me. What are we on? Almost the end of week three of me seeing you out here? I bet the crying's just an excuse. It's ok, you can tell me the truth". Grimmjow teased coming up to the fountain. Anju was sitting down on its ledge.
"I assure you these tears are real, but If you must know I have found your company to be not too poor, and It's not like I come out here every day. I think I'm quite generous with giving you several days off in-between my visits to the fountain". Anju wiped a tear away smiling as the approaching man came to stand by her.
"Ouch. You couldn't just tell me that my company was "ok". You had to say reduce me down to "not too poor". Well, if that's how you feel. I'll just keep my distance". Grimmjow put his hands up. A grin forming on his face.
Anju giggled. "Fine. Your company is ok… I suppose". She couldn't resist adding in a tease.
"Ha ha. I'll accept that. So, what's got you crying on this fine night".
"It's nothing".
"It doesn't sound like nothing". Grimmjow tilted his head to the side.
"It's because… I lost something important to me, and it makes me sad whenever I think about it".
"Why don't you ask a maid to help you look for it. It's probably in the same place you left collecting dust behind a couch or something".
"It's my parents. I lost them due to a carriage accident two years ago, so there's no looking for them".
"I see. Sorry for your loss".
"Thank you.
(Three days later)
"It must've been difficult. I can only imagine".
"It was, but when you're at the bottom the only way to go is up". Grimmjow pointed his index finger to the sky. He was sitting with Anju on the ledge of the fountain.
"I can understand that". Anju nodded.
"You can"? Grimmjow watched as Anju turned her head to look at him.
"Yes. Our circumstances may be different, but there are some similarities. I know you may not want to hear it since I have such a cushy lifestyle compared to most, but it's true". Anju giggled well aware of Grimmjow's dislike for the upper class.
"I… originally thought you were nothing more than a pampered princess who cried over nothing, but the more you tell me, the more I realize that was not completely true. You're still a princess compared to most, but not in the way that I thought. I'd be annoyed as hell if I had someone constantly checking my bedroom, and not being able to do the things I wanted to, or taking medicine that taste like a rat's ass-"
"I said it tasted like overly sweet maple syrup. Why did you associate that with a rat's ass"? Anju chuckled.
"Same difference.
"If you say so" Anju shook her head chuckling. Leaning closer to the man next to her eyes lit up "Could you tell me about your last outing to the docks"?
"You sure you want to hear about it"? Grimmjow peeked a teasing eye open.
"The censored version". Anju quickly amended.
"Well, alright. I went to the bar with my men, and some bozo tripped over himself and landed on a table knocking mugs of beer over. The men and their company for the night did not like that, and a fight broke out. One guy got his nose broken and another even took out a gun. I thought I was going to have to step in, but a bar maid with blonde hair stood up on the bar counter and shouted for everyone to stop. I couldn't believe it everyone stopped immediately and when the bar maid told them to clean up the mess they caused they started picking up all the broken pieces of glass and straightened all the knocked over tables and chairs and some people even started sweeping and mopping. I've never seen anyone command a room like that. They even apologized to her too. Saying, "Sorry, Rangiku".
(Flashback)
"You worked for him this whole time?! Was Rangiku involved in this scheme too"?
"If she was"?
Anju's eyes widened. The thought of Rangiku also being a traitor was too much for her to bear.
"I'm kidding. She had no idea. She truly was grateful to your mother and father. Unlike me, she never would've dreamed to betray their trust or their dear precious daughter". Gin grinned down at the speechless woman. He rather liked how glossy her eyes had become.
"…From now on don't speak to me unless it's an order".
"Oh, yes ma'am". Gin mockingly bowed giggling at Anju's frustrated expression.
(Flashback)
Shaking her head at the unpleasant memory, Anju held her hands together. "I'm sorry can we talk about something else".
"Sure. Did you want to hear how the rest of the how my night went"? Grimmjow wiggled his blue eyebrows.
"I told you to tell me the censored version". Anju jokingly chided having an idea of how the rest of Grimmjow's and practically all the male servant's and security detail's nights went in one way or another.
"Awe, you're no fun". The man pouted crossing his arms. Grinning down at the woman next to him who looked up to at the moon.
"Haah, you're too much, Grimmjow". Anju smiled.
"I know".

Feeling something soft on his forehead, he opened his eyes seeing the woman he had bedded wiping a small towel over his brow and face.
"Is this your way of getting extra pay"? His eyelids drooped to half-lidded. He was tired but needed to get his pent-up desire and frustration out of him somehow. He hated to admit it, but he was starting to enjoy his visits with Anju by the water fountain. He knew she was untouchable, but that didn't stop him from having the occasional dream about her or sometimes imaging the women he bedded were her begging him for his cock.
"No, mister. This is my own special brand of care, free of charge. You look like you've had a hard day, so I wanted to help you relax. Unless of course you wanted to pay for another round, ha ha". Haruko threw in to see if she could possibly squeeze more money out of her patron.
"Heh, there it is".
"I'm just joking". She held Grimmjow's arm out continuing to wipe the sweat off his body moving on the bed to sit behind him as she wiped off his back and other arm. "Do you want to talk about it"?
"With you? No".
"Harsh. That bad, huh"?
"Very". Grimmjow nodded.
"Say, I don't think you told me your name"? Haruko got off the bed and sat down in front of him wiping his chest. Admiring the outline of his muscles and the way they dipped leading down to a "v" and what lied between his legs as she did.
Feeling the towel go lower down his abs. Grimmjow stood up not liking how intimate the woman's touches were becoming.
"That's because I didn't. I never kiss the women I sleep with let alone tell them my name. Your money is on the nightstand. Now where did I put my pants"? Grimmjow looked around the room for any articles of clothing that belonged to him. He was done here.
"But, mister-"
Quickly putting his clothes on he closed the door and headed back to the estate.

Lifting himself up with an arm he reached for the sheets that had settled by their waists to wrap around them. It was a chilly night tonight and he didn't want Anju to catch a cold just because they had lost themselves in the throes of passion. Pulling the sheets around them, he saw Anju was drifting off to sleep. Smiling at how angelic she looked despite the sinful act they had committed moments before, he ran a thumb over her cheek kissing it before he adjusted himself under the covers.
Once adjusted, he pulled her close to him and lowered his chin to place it over her head inhaling the scent of hair perfumed with Moroccan roses. During a past trip to Morocco, he had come across a famous perfume maker and had bought a bottle of the expensive scented oil for Anju thinking she'd like it. Since the bottle was small, she only wore it during special occasions, so it made him happy that she thought him coming home from a month-long business trip to Mexico was special enough.
It didn't happen on a set schedule, but whenever he was away from the estate for a period of time, he would make arrangements to invite Anju to his room for a candle lit dinner and chance to reconnect in a more intimate setting. The candles on his private dining table gave the room a soft amber glow. Scattered on the floor were red rose petals that he had instructed the maids to place around the room tastefully. For dinner he had the chef prepare Anju's favorite meal and even scooted his chair closer to hers in order to feed her, her dessert much to her embarrassment, but his insistence that he had wanted to feed his lovely dear wife.
Everything had been perfect.
"Well, you're home early? Things not go too well with your lady of the night"? Edrad asked nonchalantly while he read the next chapter of Pride and Prejudice.
"It was ok". Grimmjow removed his coat. And hung it on a hook that had been nailed to the wall.
"Doesn't sound like it. Is this about what happened between you and Anju"?
"Can we not talk about this anymore"? Grimmjow's tone was exasperated. "I messed up, ok. I wasn't thinking". Grimmjow sat down on his bed untying his boots as he recalled the events.
He and Starrk had gone on an outing with Anju so she could go gift shopping for Aizen's great aunt's birthday. He had noticed what appeared to be a child keeping his distance and looking at Anju. Starrk noticed him too and instructed Grimmjow to keep an eye on the kid while he went inside the shop with Anju. Going to see what the boy had wanted, he sighed when he saw him retreat into an alleyway. This was an obvious trap, but he had to check it out. Entering the alleyway, Grimmjow dodged a knife that had been thrown in his direction. The boy he followed held several of them in his hands and was getting ready to throw the next one. Impressed with the boy's skill for his age, Grimmjow banished the thought when more knives were thrown his way.
With only two knives left, the boy looked like he was trying to see if he could find a way to escape, but Grimmjow wouldn't let him. Running towards the boy what Grimmjow didn't count on was him sliding between his legs. Watching as he got back up and ran from the alleyway, Grimmjow quickly ran out to see the child watching as Starrk and Anju exited the shop.
Shaking his head for the child not do it, the child just smiled and ran with a knife pointed towards Anju. Having caught sight of the approaching threat, Starrk quickly got in front of Anju to protect her from the attack. Thinking quick. Grimmjow grabbed one of the throwing knives that had landed on the floor and threw it at the child's back. Seeing the child fall to the ground with a thud, he was pleased with himself for handling the situation, but it hadn't occurred to him that his action would have a serious ramification until he saw that Anju had been peeking out from behind Starrk. The look he saw on his face made his heart sink. She looked blank.
Watching as she walked in the direction to where the carriage was parked, he tried to run after her to explain himself but was stopped by a hand on his shoulder from Starrk who told him to let her go and give her some space.
To curb his guilt after the incident, he told himself that if Anju had been telling the truth about not being bothered by any of their backgrounds, then she had no right to be upset with him when she already knew what kind of things he was capable of. "Because seeing and knowing are two different things", Showlong had told him, and he was right. Regardless if Anju accepted the workers of Aizen Estate or not, it was one thing to know that someone was capable of being cruel and actually seeing their cruelty play out. Just look at who she was married to. He doubted Mr. Aizen showed her what kind of things he got up to, otherwise she wouldn't be so nice all the time.
Having been given advice by his men, Grimmjow decided he'd do something he never did. Apologize, but every time he stopped by the fountain when he was on night duty. She was never there. Waving at her window got him no reaction either. He'd even thought about pissing on the garden's bushes again to get a reaction, but that was a bit much. Coming up on the sixth day, he feared he'd lost someone he could confide in who saw past his rough exterior and didn't judge him for it.
Deciding to visit the fountain one last time before giving up, he followed his regular route on patrol and stopped when he saw a silver haired woman sitting on the edge of the fountain with her head in her hands.
Walking up he hoped his presence would not scare her off.
"Hey". Grimmjow said hesitantly standing in front of her.
Lifting her head, Anju looked up at him. "Hey".
"Can I sit here"?
"Of, course". She patted the edge next to her. "It's been a while. How have you been"?
"Good. You"? He blinked hoping she wouldn't tell him to go away.
"Is everything alright, Grimmjow? You seem kind of down"?
"I'm sorry". Grimmjow grabbed her hand getting down on his knees
Anju gasped not sure how to react.
"For killing that kid. When I saw him try to attack you my brain went on autopilot, and I acted without thinking. I know this won't bring him back, but I'm truly sorry. I didn't mean to upset you". He lowered his head waiting for her reaction.
"What are you talking about? And forgive you for what? It's unfortunate what happened to that child, but he did try to kill me, and all actions have consequences... Oh, did I look distant or something"? Anju met Grimmjow's eyes.
"You looked blank like this". Grimmjow made a similar face to what he remembered that day.
"Ha, ha, ha. Loly is right. I do look like a dead fish when I space out". Anju laughed using the hand that Grimmjow wasn't holding to cover her mouth to stifle her laughter. Seeing Grimmjow was still confused, she explained. "I wasn't upset with you Grimmjow. Seeing that child get killed just reminded me of some stuff from the past. I sometimes space out when that happens".
"But Starrk held me back and told me to give you space". Grimmjow gave her a questioning look urging her to explain.
"That's because when I get like that, I need to be alone for a little bit so I can for lack of a better term "wakeup"".
"What about when you didn't come to the fountain this past week. I even waved to your window and thought about pissing in the bushes to get your attention".
"Did you"? Anju quirked an amused brow.
"No". Grimmjow shook his head.
"Good because I think the gardener is getting suspicious. As to why I haven't been here it's because Sosuke's great aunt was sick and requested that I take care of her till she recovered. It was all last minute, so I had to leave right away".
"I didn't hear anything about it from Ulquiorra".
"That's because he went with me".
"Oh".
"Why don't you get up off the floor now. It must be uncomfortable squatting down like that. I sincerely apologize for the misunderstanding, Grimmjow, and now that I'm back we can talk about whatever you'd like if you wish". Anju smiled stroking Grimmow's hand that was still holding hers comfortingly.
Letting go of her hand, Grimmjow stood up and sat on the ledge next to Anju.
"I don't really have any more stories aside from the usual, but lately Edrad has been reading Pride and Prejudice. He said you recommended it to him".
"Well, I wouldn't say recommended. More like I saw him in the library looking at the romantic literature section and coughed under my breath that the maids have been talking about that book lately".
"So, you're the one who's been encouraging him to be a sap. I should've known". Grimmjow teased.
"Can you blame me? What woman doesn't want a man who has a sensitive side and is well versed in subjects of interest to them. I think it's sweet that he's trying to better himself so he can one day get married and raise a child or two properly".
"He told you"?
"Oh, yes". Anju nodded. Believe it or not you're not the only one I talk to. Di Roy and Yylfordt in particular are quite the characters. I'm surprised the slums haven't seen an increase in the birthrate with the way they get around. I'm sure Di Roy breaks a lot of hearts, but I'm not to sure about Yylfordt". Anju put a finger to her chin in mock contemplation.
"I don't know about Yylfordt, but Di Roy's a real lady killer. Makes me wonder what the secret is since he's not nearly as handsome as me". Grimmjow grinned.
Putting her hands over her mouth, Anju giggled. "Well, I don't know about looks, but I do find your company to be rather pleasant". Anju looked up at the moon. It was full tonight, and somehow it reminded her of her mother. A small smile formed on her.
"I do too". Grimmjow stared at Anju's side profile. Focusing on her lips. "Don't cross the line, Grimmjow".
"Did you say something"? Anju turned her attention to the man beside her.
"It was nothing".
Bonus Story: The Prostitute and the Fallen Aristocrat
In a room in a brothel. Miyako had finished servicing another customer. The man had requested to spend the night, so Miyako was lying in bed with her back against the wall as she stroked his head in her lap.
"I'm serious".
"You're not, and your parents will never forgive you for marrying a prostitute. Shouldn't you be filling your head with economics and politics instead of with those fairy tales and romance stories you tell me about? In this world people like me don't get a happy ending. I'm not sure anyone does, really".
"I assure you. I've never picked up a romance novel in my life. In fact, I'm not fond of reading for pleasure and prefer to make up my own stories from the things I experience. I love you, Miyako. Truly, an I want to marry you. You don't need to worry about my parents or reputation. They died years ago and my reputation as an aristocrat has fallen since then. My younger sister and brother have already given me their blessings as well, so you being my wife wouldn't effect anything since no one pays attention to Shiba family anymore. Well, maybe you would affect something". Kaien scratched his cheek blushing. "For I'd surely be a happier man if you said yes to my proposal". He looked up at her from his position in her lap. His smile was gentle causing Miyako to blush. Taking her hand that had been stroking his head, he gave it a light squeeze.
"For the third time now. Miyako, will you marry me"? Kaien smiled with those playful green eyes of his that Miyako had come to adore.
Miyako smiled as tears began forming in her eyes. If there really were no barriers that would be an obstacle to their love, and they really did love each other then..."Yes. I'll marry you Kaien". She nodded wiping her tears away just for more to spill over. Feeling arms being wrapped around her, she felt lips press to her temple.
Pulling away, Kaien held her gaze and gently wiped her tears away. "I suppose it's true what they say about the third time. I promise to create a better life for you, Miyako. You have my word". He placed a kiss on her lips
"You better". Laughing, Miyako cupped his face and kissed his softly.
(The next morning)
"So, you're finally leaving this place. You were one of my best girls, but I'm glad you're being redeemed". Chikane Iba the madam of the Iba Brothel took a drag of her cigarette smiling at the now lit-from-within Miyako that stood before her. It made Chikane feel good that one of her girls would get the opportunity to live a better life than what this old place could provide. "Now, if only I could find someone to marry my good-for-nothing son. I could finally retire in peace. Any takers ladies"? She turned to look at the rest of the gathered girls from over her shoulder.
"No! Several said at once.
"Hell no"!
"I wouldn't marry him if he was the last man on Earth"!
"Eww"!
"Whoever said "eww" I'll keep the toilet seat up just for you. You can fall in and drown for all I care". A red bulge formed on Tetsuzaemon's forehead. The sound of feminine laughter rang out in the foyer causing him to clench his teeth in irritation. The girls were always so mean to him thanks to his mother who condoned it.
"Take care Miyako". Chikane bowed her head. Giving her a departing smile.
"Don't forget to write".
"If it doesn't work out you know where to find us. My cousin's in the Mafia, so I'm sure he could cut you a good deal for murder".
"Live happily, Miyako".
"Ha ha, Bye everyone". Miyako waved looping her arm with Kaien's extended one as they walked from the docks to where the carriage was parked.
Miyako had no idea what the future had in store for her, but if Kaien's words were true, she was sure that she would live a happy life with him. Looking to him, she saw him down at smile at her. Helping her into the carriage, they headed towards the Shiba mansion to start their new lives together.
(Eight years later)
Funeral bells rang as a casket was lowered into a grave. Dressed in funeral garb. Miyako stood with her sister and brother-in-laws. With a lowered head, she reflected on her life with Kaien.
"Don't worry about me dear. I've put my share of the accounts and properties in your name. You'll be well taken care of after I'm gone". Kaien's hand was cupping her cheek. He had been diagnosed with a disease he'd likely gotten overseas in an attempt to bring the Shiba gunpowder and fireworks business to a new business market.
Miyako couldn't help the tears that trickled down her cheeks. This man she hadn't taken seriously in the beginning had treated her with care and affection. She had come to truly love him even his silliness as he continued to woo her with stories of romance and tell her that they were living proof that happily ever after does exist.
Putting her hand on his, she nuzzled her cheek into his palm.
"Don't cry dear. We all have to face the day of our demise at some point. Mine has come sooner than expected is all. Take care of yourself, and should you remarry. Make sure he treats you well". Kaien smiled.
"Please". Miyako brought the hand that cupped by her cheek to her lips giving the palm side several pecks before placing it in her lap. "Don't say such things. Let's just enjoy the time we have together".
Eyes softening. Kaien gave Miyako's hand a loving squeeze. "Of course, dear".
Feeling a hand on her shoulder. Miyako looked to see Kukaku was offering her support. Smiling to let her know she was ok, she watched as the grave diggers piled dirt on the lowered casket.
"Why did you marry me"? Miyako had asked one night lying in bed next to her husband. She was lying on her back staring at the small chandelier that hung from the ceiling. She still couldn't believe that everything in the room belonged to her, but she supposed she'd get used to it as their marriage progressed. Feeling her husband shift to place a peck on her cheek, she felt him turn her chin towards him.
"Well, my dear earth angel. Would you believe me if I said that it was because of love at first sight"? He grinned teasingly. Knowing that Miyako still wasn't fully a bliever of fairy tales and all that came with them.
"Does such a thing even exist"? She chuckled.
"I assure you it does. I've experienced it for myself". Kaien had given her the most loving look she had ever seen from a man.
Blushing, Miyako got on top of Kaien and kissed his cheeks, neck and chest.
"Well, aren't you eager for a second round, my lovely nymph. I am a lucky man indeed to have such a loving wife". He chuckled. Their gazes meeting. Miyako leaned down and they shared a sweet kiss.
"Thank you all for coming. Kaien would surely appreciate it". Miyako smiled. She had lived a wonderful life with Kaien and would always keep those memories close to her heart.
"Thank you, Kaien. For loving me".
"Of course. You deserve nothing less my dearest Miyako". Kaien moved her hair to behind her shoulder

Due to a huge technical difficulty, my computer for some reason didn't save my chapters properly, so I'm going to need a few extra days to figure out what's going on and re-edit each chapter. I'll probably release the next chapter by Thursday. Thank you for your understanding.
