"Ruzek! You got a visitor downstairs!" Voight yelled from his office. The team looked confused but Adam knew exactly who it was. They had a last minute Christmas present for Kim and he had to pick it up and finish paying for it. "It's all good guys be back shortly." Adam jumped up and headed for the stairs. Adam was excited to see the finished product as he got closer to the artist. "Kaitlyn! Thank you for doing this so quickly!" Adam shook her hand and took the finished products from her. He opened each one to ensure it looked right. "Absolutely! I'm glad I could help. I hope she likes they." She responded nervous of what he would think. "They look amazing! Really! She's going to love them!" He was in awe of how they turned especially since it was short notice.
"I'm so glad you like them. It's always special to work on these types of projects." Kaitlyn knew losing a pet was heartbreaking so this was a special gift for anyone, a canvas painting of your beloved pet. "Again thank you much. Here's the rest of the money I owe you. I hope you have a Merry Christmas!" Adam shook her hand again but she pulled him in for a hug. They were getting looks from the desk Sergeant but Adam didn't notice. As he started to head back to work she called him over. "Ruzek, you want to explain why a girl that's not your girlfriend was hugging you?" The look she gave him could kill a mule but Adam just laughed.
"Well since you know my girlfriend Kim, when I was in the hospital she told both her cats had just passed away. One was one week after the other. She was devastated of course, couldn't even go get the ashes alone. So I took her, held her the whole time. Helped find shelves to put them on and hung them for you. So the other day I went through the pictures on her phone and found two I really liked. Sent them to my phone and had Kaitlyn plaint them for Kim as a present. I only hope I didn't over step." Adam opened the package to show her the photos and paintings. "That's beautiful Ruzek. I'm sure she will love it. It's very thoughtful. Now back to work!" Platt was over him already. Adam laughed again and headed back to his desk.
As he hit the top of the stairs everyone looked over to see him. He again explained about Kim's animals and showed them the paintings. "Adam that's so sweet! She's gonna love it. You did good!" Erin stated as she headed back to her desk. "I'm shocked man. Who knew you could be thoughtful?" Kevin laughed getting a dirty look. "I don't know. I think it's her. Kim was having a busy day off pre normal. She was running errands and getting her hair done. She took at seat at the bar and saw an somewhat older man behind the bar waiting on customers and a younger women as well. The male came down her way with a friendly smile on his face. "What can I get for you?" He asked. "Could I get a glass of red wine please?" Kim asked politely. "Coming right up." The man left to retrieve her drink. When he returned he looked her up and down.
"Your first time here right?" He asked her. Kim laughed. "Yes it is. I'm just waiting for my boyfriend. He's a regular here." Kim offered not sure how much to give away. "Ah well if he choose you he must be pretty smart. Im Herman. I own the bar. And you are?" He offered his hand. "Kimberly Burgess but you can call me Kim. And as for smart I like to think he's smart. He saved my life so he has that going for him." They both laughed and Herman went on his way to serve other drinks. A few minutes later the female walked her way. "You said your name is Kim right? Ruzek girlfriend?" She asked as Kim nodded. "Well I'm Stella I work here and at fire house 51 with Herman and a bunch of the guys here. If you need anything let me know." Stella offered as she walked to serve drinks.
Kim looked at her not seeing any new messages but the door opened and Adam walked through. He didn't notice her though. "Hey baby!" Kim offered. ' Sorry ma'am but I.." Adam looked over in shock. "Kim! My god! I did t recognize you! You cut your hair! Darling you look adorable!" Adam leaned in for a kiss. "Well hello to you too. And no it's not cut just extensions removed for a few weeks. Let my head have a rest from all the extra weight." Kim laughed but knew it was forced. "Okay so you started without me so I'm guessing you had a bad day. Let's grab a table and talk?" Adam asked for his usual and they headed to a table towards the back for privacy.
"Should I be concerned?" Adam asked as he sat down across from Kim. "No baby. We are fine. I wouldn't be here if we weren't. But I get this today and I'm pissed off and need help finding a good lawyer." Kim handed him the papers for him to read. "Wait? You are being sued by your parents to stop repayment of what they stole? Kim how much did they steal and how much have you recovered if you don't mind telling me?" Adam was shell shocked. He saw his friends out of the corner of his eye but they could see this was private time. "Adam I will tell you anything you want to know. Remember you are my only one. But it's big. They stole 500,000 from me and I have only gotten around 85,000 back. It will take probably 50 more years to get it all back. I can't let them win. I earned that money, I deserve it. I just don't understand. You know its been 10 years since I heard from them and now I had a stalker because of them and now this. Do you think it's connected somehow?" Kim asked on the verge of tears.
"Honestly I don't know but I will try to find out. But no matter what you are not alone in this. I will be there every step of the way." Adam got up from his seat and moved closer to her wrapping her in his arms as she broke down in tears. It was all too much and right before the holidays. "How about tonight you can open one present. What do you think?" Adam watched her laugh smiling wide as he wiped her tears away. "Sounds good. I'm gonna wash my face real quick and then we can meet up with your friends." Kim waited for him to nod before heading to the bathroom. Adam headed towards his friends once he saw she arrived at the bathroom.
"That looked intense. She Okay?" Kevin asked looking concerned for his best friend. "Um yeah she will be. She just this lovely shit today so it's a bit too much to handle. I need Mouse to dig into this and see if somehow it's connected to the stalker from early." Adam explained as the team read over the document. They all looked shocked but could understand why she was upset. As Kim left the bathroom she was grabbed by some drunk man she never saw before. "Hey baby! How about me and you get out of here?" The drunk whispered. "How about no! Let go of me or I will have you arrested!" Kim yelled as she tried to pull away. Adam, Kevin and Jay all ran to help her get away.
"Listen let her go. She doesn't want you and you don't want trouble. So let's call you a cab and be done here?" Kevin offered trying to defuse the situation before it got worse. "Nah man she mine now." The drunk slurred but Kim wasn't helpless. She pulled her taser and tased him in his gut. He dropped immediately groaning in pain but Kim was free. The guys all looked shocked at first but it turned to pride at how she handled herself. "Good job! That was impressive!" Jay patted her shoulder as he hauled the guy up off the floor. "Damn darling! "Well Adam can eat so good luck feeding him! He's always hungry!" Kevin totally throwing his best friend under the bus. "Gee thanks man! It's like you're calling me fat or something." Adam laughed knowing it was all in good fun. "After the holidays you should all come over and I will cook for you. Show off my cooking skills!" Kim said very confidently. They all agreed it sounded like fun and good way to hang out. As the night closed out the team slowly left for home. They all had the holiday to prepare for so made it an early night. Adam and Kim headed back to her place to open one present as promised. Adam was nervous about the paintings but hoped it would work out. He would also let her pick the box that she wanted open since this was about cheering her up.
As they arrived he could tell the emotional toll was kicking in some. He thought about picking her up and carrying her but he was sure she would protest. They reached her door and Adam placed his gifts for her on her table as he helped her out if her coat. "Okay my darling! You can pick one present to open tonight. Which will it be?" Kim picked the largest gift which happened to be the one he was most nervous of.
"Well then let's move to the couch and open it." Adam tried to keep his nerves at bay but she noticed . It didn't stop her from sitting down to open it. Adam watched as she tore into the package and opened the box slowly. He heard her gasp, tears filling her eyes as she took in the beautiful painting of her beloved cat. "There is another one." Adam told her as she looked again to see another painting of her other cat that passed away. She placed them down and jumping into Adams lap crying in his arms. He was pretty sure she loved them but he wasn't positive just yet. "Baby thank you so much! I love them! I love you! This is perfect!" Kim continued to cry tears of joy as he rubbed her back. "I love you too! And I'm happy you love them. I was afraid I over stepped and you would be upset about it. I thought these could go over their shelves to honor them." Adam watched her eyes go wide before kissing his hard.
"That is so thoughtful! Thank you for this. I truly love it." Kim snuggled in his arms as she looked at the paintings. They truly were perfect and super sweet. She never imagined someone would think do this for her. "Would you hang them for me tomorrow?" Kim asked shyly. "Of course darling! You didn't even need to ask. It was on my plans for tomorrow before heading to my dads." Adam squeezed her tight in his arms and placed a kiss on her head. "I think you should get a present too tonight." Kim stated as she got up from the couch. "I will be right back baby!" Kim winked as she headed to her room. Adam grabbed a drink and came back to the couch to wait. When Kim came back to the living room she was dressed in a black satin robe and a pair of heels. She cleared her throat to get his attention.
