It was Friday, it had been a long ass week and Kim was exhausted. Adam has been busy all week with a nasty case and they hadn't seen much of each other. Which mad for some major frustration from the couple. Adam was waiting at Molly's for Kim to show, she was late which had him worried and annoyed. "Ruze she will be here. You gotta chill!" Kevin rolled his eyes at his friend who was acting like a child, maybe jealous. "Yeah I know. I just haven't seen her much. I just want to spend time with her this weekend. I need to see my girl!" Adam almost whined. "Well here she comes Ruze!" Jay laughed at his friend who sounded like a love sick puppy dog. Adam turned around to see Kim and not only did she look tired but she looked pissed.
"Darling? What's wrong? What happened?" Adam asked worried at her appearance. "Hey sorry I'm late! It's been a shit day! Hair and make up ran long, wardrobe was late, rehearsal was pushed back and ran long. Then on my way here I got a ticket and it's bullshit. I admit I was probably speeding. But the turn signal shit is just that shit!" Kim rambled on and literally just crashed her body into Adams needing his comfort. "Hey it's all okay. Let me see the ticket and see what I can do." Adam watched her shoulders sag. "That's not the worst part! My turn signals work! Maybe I didn't use it, I don't know but look who wrote the ticket!" Kim pulled it out and tossed it at Adam. The whole team looked at it and gasped. "You met my dad as he wrote you a ticket and made shit up on the ticket? This is insane! I will get this taken care of. You don't need all these points on your license. It's gonna be fine. We will take care of this." Adam held her close rubbing her back trying to calm her down.
The team watched the couple. Seeing the softness Adam was showing her in the moment. They had just earlier today watched him throw a chair at a perp so this was a complete 180. "Darling, I promise you we will work this all out. And I know it's not about the money, it's the principle of the issue. And I already know he was a douche to you so you don't have to say it. I will deal with him and his desk sergeant, he shouldn't be writing tickets for you. His partner should be the one to deal with you. Its a conflict of interest. Now please tell me when was the last time you actually ate something? Because I know you haven't eaten recently." Adam was very concerned at this point. "You are right it's been awhile. I truthfully can't remember the last time I ate anything. I just didn't have time with the schedule mess ups today." Kim was embarrassed and disappointed in herself. She had been doing better about that.
"Okay. I have some food in my car from lunch. I'm gonna grab it and your gonna eat. I promise you will feel so much better." He kissed her head before heading to the car. His team surrounding her. "Hey it's gonna be okay. So gonna be fine. It's just the stress of the week catching up to you." Erin side hugged her knowing she just needed to hear it. "It's so silly to be crying over this, I know that." Kim sighed. "No it's not. You are exhausted and starving. This sounds pretty normal. Just try to relax and eat something. I promise you will feel better." Antonio rubbed her back trying to make her feel better. Adam walked back in watching his team try to comfort his girl. "Hey Darling. Here's a sandwiches, some chips and some water. Oh and tissues. Eat up darling." Adam kissed her head again sitting next to her. "Thank you baby! I appreciate it." Kim sat quietly eating the food Adam gave her. The team went back to talking, Adams arm still touching Kim the entire time.
"Ruzek! You know I don't allow food brought in here!" Herman calls across the bad. "Seriously man? She hasn't eaten in over 24 hours. Just let it slide this time. She's exhausted and needs food and sleep. Just this once?" Adam tried to bargain. "Yeah Hermann let it go. We don't care. Let her be." Casey calls out. He had watched Kim breaking down earlier. He knew his own wife did the same when she was beyond tired and hungry. "Fine only this once!" Hermann huffed as he walked away. Adam looked over towards Casey. "Thanks Matt! Appreciate the support." Adam nodded and looked back towards Kim who looked upset again. "Hey no more tears. Just keep eating. Your good." Adam whispered as he hugged her.
Neither noticed that Matt had left and headed out to his vehicle returning with a chocolate bar. He knew it could help her even more and lord knows he hated to see women cry. He slowly returned to the bar walking to the table sliding it towards her. "It's okay to have a bad day. You are doing great. Just keep moving forward." Casey started rubbing her back before giving her a side hug. "Thank you so much. I appreciate it. I'm normally not like this." Kim was embarrassed now. "Hey. We know that. We've all seen you shine in here. It's a bad off day. Tomorrow will be better." Casey left after that knowing she needed to just eat and enjoy your own silence. Adam waived Hermann over letting him know that he would be paying for Casey's drinks for the night. He had gone out of his way to make Kim feel better and that meant the world to him.
The more Kim ate the better she felt. Still exhausted but much more alive. The chocolate bar actually brought a smile to her face. Adam was relieved. She turned the corner and he knew she would be alright. "So you still up for date night tomorrow? I got us reservations for 6pm. So you can sleep in some." Adam asked once she seemed settled. "Absolutely. A good night sleep with you and I'll be all set." Kim smiled leaning her head on his shoulder. "Good. Tonight lots of sleep tomorrow lots of relaxing before dinner. Sunday more relaxing before getting the studio set up for teaching next week." Adam detailed what they needed to accomplish over the weekend. "Yes. Though that shouldn't be too hard. It's only 8 students and it will be more fixing their stance, footwork, posture, hands, extension. Hopefully they realize how much more natural the movements feel when it's done properly. They make it look awkward and uncomfortable. Definitely bad training." Kim explained.
"Wait you are teaching now?" Erin asked confused. "Not normally. But I have a friend who just took over a dance company in New York and they are terrible. So she asked me to help but I can't go there, I don't have the time. So she's bringing them here so they can see some professional rehearsals and then I can train them at night. It's gonna be hard work but they need help and good help so it's worth it." Kim explained. "They can't be that bad. Right?" Kevin asked watching as Kim's face turned to one of horror. "Worse! I have video! They have an Instagram page so you can see parts of all their performances. God it's so bad! No one should be paying to watch this and no one should be paying them to perform. It's horrible!" Kim pulled out her phone and showed them first hand what she was referring to. The team watched in horror as these 'dancers' performed on the stage.
"Told you!" Kim laughed at their faces. I wasn't wrong." Kim shrugged before putting her phone away. "Okay that was bad. Do you really think you can help them?" Jay asked still shocked. "Hopefully. I can guarantee you they aren't working hard enough. They don't practice at home. So a stern talk and lot of drills will hopefully have this somewhat fixed. My friend will need to stay on top of it though. Funny thing is she knows the drills and steps they need to fix. But she thinks coming from me would be better. Especially since I'm still dancing and not someone who injured out. Tough cross to bear but I'm up for the challenge." Kim explained full of hope and determination. "Well good luck. That was child like! Your gonna need lots of luck." Antonio patted her back before heading to the bar needing another to forget what he just saw.
"Injure out? What does that mean?" Jay asked confused as to how that could happen. "Well a career ending injury happens just it does for you all except we don't get shot. Back injury, knee injury, broken bones, torn muscles can all end a career. Then the mental aspect can happen with being afraid it could happen again. I worked through all my injuries including my broken foot. Just cut back performances but stayed on the stage. But it happens and it's really not that hard to get injured. A simple fall or over extension could end it all." Kim shrugged for her it was simple, it was everyday life. Trying to avoid the end. "I guess that is like ours. One simple mistake can change everything." Kevin mused. "Well I hate to break up this party but someone needs some sleep. And I'm hoping I don't have to carry her home when the pure exhaustion kicks in so we are heading out." Adam headed to pay the bill before heading back to say goodnight and take Kim home. "Leave your car. We will get it tomorrow when you are awake. It's not safe now." Kim nodded against Adam as he led her out of the bar.
As soon as the car started Kim was out cold. She couldn't fight sleep off any longer. Adam smiled thankful that she was finally going to get the rest she needed and deserved. The drive home was quietly, music playing softly as they made their way home. After they pulled up Adam didn't have the heart to wake her. He lifted her into his arms and carried her into the building. His arms tired as they got closer to the door but he never dropped his grip. As he finally got her inside he took her straight to bed placing her down before heading back to lock up for the night. Upon his return to the room he heard soft snore coming from Kim. He smiled softly before undressing her and getting her under the covers. She slept the entire time, for that he was thankful.
Adam undressed and heard to the shower. He needed to wash away the week. He stood under the hot water hoping to relax the sore and tight muscles in his body. After his shower he dried off and slid into bed next to Kim. He moved her body so he could wrap his arms around her, needing to feel her body close to him. He felt her sigh contently against him before she snuggled closer. Adam smiled kissing her head before closing his eyes to sleep. It felt like minutes later he awoke to an alarm going off. It was actually 6am and it was Kim's morning alarm. He felt her waking. "No way darling. You need sleep. You are not getting up to work out. Go back to sleep." Adam grabbed her phone turning it off and letting her sleep against him again.
His own alarm went off two hours later. He turned it off quickly not to wake Kim. He and the team had fire arm recertifications today. They planned to head in early so they could enjoy the full weekend. "Adam slid out if the bed and got dressed as quietly as possible. He left a note for Kim letting her know where he was so she wouldn't worry. He kissed her head and then headed out to meet the team. He met the team at the range, it was still early but they were eager to get it started. As they headed into the range the team was joking around trying to keep things lite and airy since it was weekend. "Person who shoots the worst buts breakfast for the team?" Kevin asked as they stepped to the bays. "Sure why not! It won't be me so I'm good with that!" Erin laughed as they started to shoot.
After they all finished shooting they allowed the Sergeant to judge who was the best shot to determine the winner of their contest. "Okay well you all passed with flying colors. I know you guys have a bet going so I'm gonna say the loser of the bet and the one who has to buy breakfast is Officer Atwater!" The Sergeant laughed as the team cheered. "Shouldn't have made the bet man!" Adam laughed as they all headed out. "Damn! Alright let's head to the diner." Kevin was annoyed but a deal was a deal.
When they arrived at the diner they found a table large enough for the entire team. "So Ruzek, hows Kim this morning?" Erin asked. "I'm not sure. She was still sound asleep when I left. Her alarm went off at 6 but I turned it off and told her to sleep. No workout at 6am today. She went right back to sleep so I think that's a good thing. Lord knows she needs it. Burning the candle at both ends." Adam answered with a shrug. "Sounds like she needs it. Poor thing looked ragged last night. She needs this. She needs you to tell her when to slow down cause she doesn't know the words." Jay replied but looked at Erin while he spoke. "Really? You're gonna say that in front of everyone and look at me Whatever!" Erin sassed at Jay. The team broke out laughing.
"Anyway! She was asleep in the car the whole ride. I had to carry her the entire way into the apartment and into bed. She never woke! Out cold!" Adam laughed remembering the dead weight that was Kim last night. "She's lucky to have you." Al spoke for the first time. He hadn't been there last night but he got the idea from the conversation around him. "More like I'm lucky to have her. She makes me want to be a better man, a better cop. I felt trapped before I met her. I'm happier than I have ever been and I feel free to be myself. I don't know I'm just happy." Adam explained. Conversation drifted off Kim and Adam after that. They ordered food and chatted as they ate.
As they were finishing up Adams phone dinged with a text from Kim. She was awake and relaxing in the tub. She had sent a photo of her legs in the water with a note saying wish you were here. Adam had to take a few deep breaths trying to calm his body. It was reacting to Kim's text, wishing he could be there as well. He decided to call her quickly. "Hey Darling! We are heading out soon. Do you want anything?" Adam asked knowing she had to be hungry. "Hey baby! I miss you! And I'm hungry! So yes please bring me something healthy to eat." Kim was smiling as they spoke. "Something healthy? Okay I can do that. And I miss you too. So let me order you something so I can get home quicker." Adam replied as he looked for something to order. "Okay see you soon baby! Love you! Only one!" Kim smiled wider. "Love you too darling! Only you! See you soon." Adam hung up and ordered her yogurt with fresh fruit and granola. It was simple and healthy and would last on the way home. Most items would get cold or soggy before he got there.
Kim had woken that same morning to an empty bed. Adams side cold. She opened her eyes to see a note. It was Adam letting her know that he was out with the team and would see her later. She smiled at how thoughtful he was. She decided to take his advice from last night and relax so she filled the tub and prepared for a long soak. She thought back to last night, she was such a mess and everyone worked to make sure she was okay and calm. She truly appreciated each and everyone of them taking time out to help her. As she soaked she thought of Adam and the date night they had planned ahead. She smiled ear to ear thinking of the night ahead. Kim decided to text Adam letting him know that she took his advice and knowing it would help him relax some himself knowing she is relaxing too.
She also loved that he called right away with an offer of food. She did need to eat, she was hungry and she actually was enjoying being able to eat more. She had felt better and stronger now that she was eating more, better. After getting the text that Adam was on his way she jumped out of the tub and jumped in the shower quick. Washing her private areas more carefully ensuring all the soap from the bath was washed away. She was just getting dressed when she heard the door opening. Kim walked into the living room in just a shirt and a thong. "Hey baby!" Kim walked closer wrapping her arms around him. "Well hello darling! I love coming home to see you like this!" Adam kissed her while putting his hands on her butt cheeks. "Well I love you being here so I gotta show you the love." Kim kissed him again.
"Food first! Loving later!" Adam sighed knowing she needed to eat first. That was most important. "So I assume you slept well last night and this morning?" Adam asked watching Kim eat. He had gone into the kitchen to make some protein to go with her breakfast. "Yes I slept hard! Thank you for getting me home and having to carry me. I know I didn't make it easy last night. Everything caught up to me and I missed that bungee work out class yesterday as well. I'm kind of embarrassed actually for how I acted." Kim looked down ashamed. "Darling! No why! You have no reason be in embarrassed. We all have bad days. We all get upset and you have every right to be upset. I'm fairly confident if you hadn't been pulled over you would have been fine. It's was the final straw, the straw that broke the camels back if you will." Adam turned off the stove before platting the turkey bacon.
"Thank you but I still feel bad. I made a scene in your favorite bar. You got yelled at by the owner." Kim sighed heavily. "Darling it's fine. Herman will get over it. And if Gabby had been, another owner, she would have backed you up. Hence why Casey did. No one thought it was a big deal, beside Hermann so it's all good. Oh and the team was checking in on you today. Making sure you are doing bette today. The important people know the real you and yesterday didn't change that. You are fine." Adam explained trying to calm her down again. "Yeah maybe, just not used to anyone seeing that side of me. I like to remain in control. I'm never seen as weak. But I guess you are right though. The run in with your dad set me off. It wasn't what I expected. You are so kind, loving, wonderful. And he was an asshole. I just wasn't expecting that at all." Kim shook her head after explaining.
"I totally get that. And I promise you I will handle it and him. It won't happen again." Adam walked around to hold her against himself. He guided her to the couch helping her to sit on top of him so he could hold her close. "Please tell me what he said. I know it's all bullshit but I need to hear it. Especially since it's bothering you so much." Adam whispered. "It's just what you said it was all bullshit. He told me that I'm the latest play thing. I think he called me a toy. He told me you would grow bored with me and dump me." Kim shrugged it off. Adam was seething in anger but tried to keep calm. She didn't need his freaking out right now. "Oh darling! That's absolutely not true. You will never be a play thing. That's a horrible thought. And I will never be bored with you. You are pure light shining. Constantly looking for new things to do and try. Spicing it up. Hell we flew to AC just for a concert and to party with your friends. There is absolutely nothing boring to you." Adam pulled her away just enough to look into her eyes.
"I'm gonna tell you something that might freak you out. I would marry you today, that's what you mean to me. You are my end game. This is where I want to be. You are who I want to be with always. Only you!" Adam proclaimed as he stared into her eyes. "I love you so much! And I want to marry you too, not yet but I'm happy to hear we are on the page. You are my endgame as well. My only one!" Kim looked at him lovingly. Adam smiled leaning down to kiss her softly but full of passion. "How about we go take a walk outside? It's beautiful outside. The fresh air will be good for both of us. Then we can get ready for our date night." Adam offered. "That sounds great! Let me go get ready." Kim got up with the help of Adam and scurried to the bedroom to get ready for the walk. They headed out of the building hand in hand for their walk. They smiled wide the entire time just enjoying the down time together. It was a great way to spend the afternoon.
