"Kim darling! Your phone is dinging! Why? It's too early for that crap on your day off." Adam groaned as he woke up due to the annoying noise. "Sorry. It's just Kaitlyn." Kim turned off the volume and put her phone under her pillow. "What does she want this early in the morning?" He asked groggily. "Um it looks like two links. One for a dress she thought I would like for Paris. The other looks like a wedding dress option with the caption don't show Adam." She laughed seeing his pouty face. "Well since I'm up. How about you show me the one I'm allowed to see?" He asked. "Okay so it's one of my favorite designers and one of my favorite flowers, dahlias." She opened the link showing him the phone. It was strapless, cinched waist. The skirt was tea tenth, and a bit puffy. The main flowers were a dark red with some pink in the background. It was the perfect cocktail dress.
"It's beautiful Kim. Pricy but it's really nice." He was concerned that the dress was just under 5 grand but it was really nice. "It is pricy. But it's silk and designer. And honestly that's what I spend on most of my dresses for events. Hence why they are locked away. I think I need to order it and then later I can look at the other dress." Kim smiled looking at it again. "How about you have Kaitlyn order it and then you can look at the other dress while I use the bathroom." He knew she was dying to click the link. She nodded firing off a text about the first dress before clicking the other link. He watched her eyes tear up seeing the link open before her then a big sigh. He stopped in his tracks. "What's wrong?" He was concerned seeing her reaction. "Oh um it's perfect but it doesn't release till Spring 2024. But they do have some others that are very pretty as well. I think I will set up an appointment to try on their dresses. Several styles would be perfect for the location." Kim shrugged. "Hey you will find it and maybe they will let you use that fabric early?" He winked kissing head before heading to the bathroom.
She was still on the phone when he returned. "Finding anything else?" He asked laying next to her. "Yeah they even have one that's very ballerina looking. But I definitely won't be buying that one. But they have lots of styles and options that I like. Some that look really pretty. I will need to touch them and wear them to see how I like them. I'm also sure this is going to be stupid expensive. I don't even know if I want to go the designer route. It seems crazy to spend that much on something I will wear once. I don't know what to do." Kim put her phone down rolling into Adams chest again. "Hey you do whatever you want to do. It will look stunning no matter what. I've seen you in dresses you deem cheap and you still look beautiful. It's you not the dress. So wear what makes you happy." He kissed her lips gently.
She smiled softly. "Well since we are awake should we go for a run?" Kim asked looking up at him. "A run? Ugh! I feel like we could make better use of that time. Plus you are supposed to be relaxing. Not working out, so no to a run. But how about we drive up to the lake house and walk around the lake for a bit. It's an easy walk, it's peaceful and you glow. What do you think?" He watched her eyes light up again. "Yes! Let's do that! We can also check on the house. Take up some more of the stuff I bought for the house." Kim got up quickly heading to the bathroom. Adam chuckled at her excitement over going to the lake. "Can I join you?" He asked watching her swing her hips wider on purpose. "Oh I'm taking that as a yes!" He jumped up running after her scooping her up when he reached her. She squealed in laughter.
He placed her on sink while turning the water on. "I love when you are care free and happy like this." He stood between her legs looking into her bright eyes. "Well it's nice being able to be care free and happy. I feel like I can just be me with you. I don't have to pretend. It's why I love you so much. You don't judge, you don't belittle, you don't control. Even when you are angry with me I know it comes from a place of love, caring and concern. It never feels like I'm being yelled at. You know I heard this song yesterday when I was alone and it just really hit home. I think was called perfect by Alanis Morissette. Totally how my childhood was. I love that I don't have to be perfect for you to still love me. It's strange having never had that before." She buried her face in his neck as he engulfed her in a hug. "No one is perfect. And if they were I wouldn't want that. I love seeing your flaws or imperfections. Its what's you, you." He whispered in her ear knowing what she shared was really hard for her.
"Let's get showered and to the lake. I think we both could use the fresh air today." He carried her into the shower before placing her down making sure she was steady first. "Fresh air sounds perfect to me." Kim turned to start washing their bodies it wasn't sexy at all just a simple washing but it was sensual all the same. They both knew a shower together never ended with just a shower but they enjoyed taking care of each other for a bit before the eternal fire got too much. "You know we can't do this in the new bathroom at the lake house. No walls to press you against." He started kissing the back of her neck and shoulders running his fingers down her sides to her hips. "Guest bathroom has walls. And no one said you had to pin me to the wall to fuck me in the shower." Kim know that would get him going for sure. "Oh really? Well then let's experiment with that theory then." He loved when she cursed, especially saying fuck. It turned him on in ways he wasn't sure he understood. But it was almost like a primal need to be inside her when she was cursing.
She let him take the lead bending her over a bit so her hands were lower on the shower wall. "You mean like this? Your hands on the top of the claw foot tub you wanted." He asked holding her hips to steady her. "I may be able to touch the wall depending on how long the tub is but yeah that's the general idea." She looked over her shoulder to see the smirk on his face and his very erect penis. "Just making sure we are on the same page." He didn't hesitate to thrust into her hard and fast. He needed her in that moment and he couldn't wait. "You know I love it when you say fuck. Really gets me going." He groaned as he thrusted hard inside her. "Well fuck! I will say it more often. Fuck!" She moaned loudly feeling her release coming hard and fast. It didn't take much longer before the couple came together, Kim yelling fuck as she came. "Well I guess that works huh?" Kim smirked back at him panting from the workout. "Yeah it did. How's your back?" He asked. "It hurts like hell! But it's fine because we are going to the lake." Kim cheered.
He grabbed her hips holding her tight. "Darling! No jumping in the shower! You are gonna get hurt!" He laughed but didn't let go. "Sorry I'm just excited to get to the lake!" Kim giggled. "Alright let's get going. We needed to finish showering and then we can head out." He started washing her all over again. He was thrilled seeing her smile so wide and so bright. After the shower they dried off quick and dressed even quicker before they headed out to the car. Kims car had a few bags of things for the new house, mostly for her studio but she wanted to bring them and start setting some things up. Adam decided they needed to stop for breakfast before going to the lake.
They stopped at a diner that Adam liked, Kim had never been there before. But she was willing to give it a try. He got a booth towards the back to have a bit more privacy. "You never brought me here before?" Kim looked around the place. It was definitely an older building and in rough shape but it was packed. "Yeah I used to come here a lot when I was younger. The food good and the people are nice. And it's still inexpensive. They keep it rough looking to keep the prices down." He smiled looking at a photo wall by the kitchen. "If you go over to that photo wall there is a photo of me as a kid. It was after a little league game." He pointed towards the wall and watched as she stood up to go over and look for his picture.
She smiled bright when she saw the photo. She stared long and hard at it trying to memorize it. She walked back smirking at him. "Adorable! So cute! I need to see more photos of baby Adam!" Kim giggled knowing it would embarrass him if she found them. "I will see what I can do. But let's order so we can head out." He waved for the waitress to come over. They ordered more than enough food but he wanted her to get enough healthy foods as well as the sweet stuff. And of course coffee. Both would have a wicked headache shortly if they didn't get some caffeine soon. "Did you come here with your mom or your dad?" Kim asked trying to find out more about the man she loved. "My mom. My dad always tells people that he worked the beat so he could be there for my practices and games but that's not true. He was always out making bets. Getting in debt. But my mom she was at my games and brought me here after each game." He was lost in his thoughts.
She reached out to grab his hand. "Hey I'm sorry I asked." Kim felt terrible for him. "Hey no. Not your fault. We have to let each other in to the ugly parts. I just want you to know that I promise our kids will always come first. I never want to be like my father. I want our kids to know I love them, not question it. Not wonder if they are on,y love when they fulfill a need. You know like when I paid my dads debts. He cared then. But did he always care about it. I don't know. I want to believe that yes he did but I don't know." He shook his head not wanting to ruin their day. "Well I know for sure you love me always. I never doubt that. And our children won't either." Kim smiled at him knowing it was what he needed to hear. "Thanks darling! I do love you completely." He got quiet again as the food arrived. They both ate in silence but happily. "You are right this place does have good food. And bonus no one has bothered us." She couldn't contain her happiness at being like a normal person. Being able to have a meal with her fiancé without interruptions.
"Yeah I noticed people looked over but no one came over and I haven't noticed anyone snapping photos either. I'm not going to complain about that. I rather enjoy not being bothered by your fans." He knew she would take no offense to it. "Yeah like I don't mind signing autographs but not when I'm with you. I want privacy when I'm with you. I want to enjoy our time alone together." Kim smirked. "Oh I know that! I love our private time too!" He smirked right back. "Let's finish up and head out." He winked watching her blush a bit. "Yes! Lake house here we come!" Kim smiled knowing it was her happy place and the place they would make tons of memories as a family. "You ready to go?" Adam asked after he noticed her plates empty and her coffee gone. "Yup! Let's go." Kim got up and headed to the register. "I got this one. You pay for too much already." Adam gave her a look telling her her money was no good there. She just nodded with a smile and allowed him to pay.
They exited the little diner and headed to the lake. Kim dancing in the car as he drove. He turned the music up and she started to sing along. Adam just laughed loving seeing her like this. He loved watching her act like a kid. It was fun and exciting. The drive seemed super short since it was so much fun in the car. They pulled up to see Casey there with some other people working on the house. "Let's see how it's looking." Kim jumped out grabbing her purse and grabbed a few shopping bags while Adam grabbed the rest. They entered the house seeing the new flooring and new light fixtures right away. Casey popped out hearing the door open. "Hey guys! We had the day off so we figured we could get some work done. You wanna check it out?" He asked. They both nodded and followed him around as he showed them the progress. "This looks great! I'm impressed with all you've gotten done so far." Adam was thrilled with the progress for sure. "This does look so good! I did have an idea with something to add." Kim heard Adam groan a bit. "It's not that bead Adam!" Kim swatted his chest making him laugh. "Kim what did you want to add?" Casey asked. "So I know a lot of beach houses have outdoor showers. Mostly enclosed so you don't track the sand and crap in the house. So I thought what if we added one here, next to the deck?" Kim looked between the two men.
"Actually I think that's a good idea. Especially when the dock gets finished and we are in the lake more. We could strip down in there and leave the wet suits in the shower. Head in in towels or robes. Works for me." Adam really liked the idea. And it made tons of sense. "Okay yeah we can add that. Let me come up with some drawings and prices and I will get back to you. Also I see all the bags. The closet in your studio is done if you want to store stuff in it. Both bathroom vanities are set up so stuff can be moved in. And once the kitchen cabinets come in we will remove this one. It's honestly helpful to have it still during lunches and holding our tools." He knew they would be curious. "That's fine as long as it goes in the end I'm good with it. Alright I'm heading to my studio for a bit then we can walk around the lake." Kim grabbed the bags and headed to the studio. Adam smiled watching her go. "Thanks for all of this. Being here literally takes the weigh of the world off her. Later on watch her when she's by the water. I swear she literally glows! This place will save her life. She has no idea how to slow down but here she actually does. She needs it to breathe again." He was still watching her but knew he wasn't alone. "It's really beautiful man! I'm gonna get back to work changing out these windows." Casey left him with his thoughts.
Adam stayed there for a bit before following Kim to the studio. She had her baskets out on the floor and she was filling them with the items she needed to sort and store. She had already labeled the baskets so she just had to fill them and then put them away in the closet. She liked having her dance supplies organized and tidy. She also made a list in her phone of items she was missing. Adam helped place the baskets in the closet where she wanted them before helping her up so they could walk. She held his hand as they strolled around the lake. It was a very casual pace but they were happy enjoying the fresh air and time together. Every once in awhile she would bump his hip with hers laughing when he look offended. They stopped several times taking photos together and separately. He even texted a photo of her to his team showing him the glow around her.
It took more than an hour to walk around the lake at their pace but they didn't care. When they returned to their property Kim stayed by the water just watching the water rippling against the shoreline. He kissed her head and headed to the chair grabbing a chair from the car. He brought back the camp chair and set it up for her. Allowing her to rest in the chair while watching the water. He headed back inside to help with the clean up and move things into the bathrooms. Kim had set up kits for each bathroom so it was easy to place them in the vanity and move on. It had all the cleaning supplies needed plus toilet paper and a plunger. He stored all of it away and headed back to studio to clean up all the bags Kim had lugged in earlier.
Casey has been walking past a window when he caught sight of Kim in the chair by the water. "Oh wow." He whispered but caught the attention of the men working with him. "What's up man?" Kelly asked. "Kim. Adam told me she glowed by the water. But he's right, look at her. It's breathtaking." They all turned to look out at her. Adam had come out of the studio to see the men all looking towards Kim. He smiled fondly at them. "It's crazy right?" He asked catching them off guard. "Yeah. It's insane. I really thought it was just your vision of her but no she truly glows." Casey watched as Adam took out his phone showing them all the photo he sent the team. "Yup she's stunning! The glow just takes my breath away." He stood there watching her for a bit longer no realizing he was alone again.
He eventually went out to join her picking her up and placing her in his lap. They stayed there till she fell asleep in his arms. The sun was starting to go down some so he picked her up and headed for the car. Once she was secured inside he went inside the house to let them know he was leaving. He was surprised she was still sound asleep when he got back but he figured she needed it. He drove them home with the radio playing quietly trying not to wake her. As soon as they parked she started to stir. "Did you have a nice nap?" He asked seeing her looking around confused. "Yeah. We're home?" She asked sleepily. "Yeah. After you feel asleep for a bit I figured get you home. Let you rest in comfort here. It will be better once we have furniture up there." He watched her nod and start to get out of the car. He jogged around to help her. "How about tomorrow we go look at some furniture? I know we are going to redo wooden pieces but we need beds and couches. So we should start that tomorrow." He watched her light up a bit but he could see she was still sleepy.
It was still early so they sat down to watch the last of spring training before they cooked dinner. They both enjoyed working together to cook the meal. It was different but fun. They both imagined it's what a real family did. Neither would know as they came from broken homes. Broken in different ways but still broken. "I want our kids to learn how to cook and bake. I want them to be excited about being in the kitchen with us. I had that with my grandmother when I was really little. But then all the dancing got in the way. She died while I was still over seas. No one bothered to tell me. Like I know I don't talk to my parents or sister but none of my aunts or uncles or cousins called me. I went to her home when I got back to find out she was gone and had been for 2 almost 3 years at that point. We always made cookies together." Kim's words broke him. He could imagine how that felt for her. Seeing the tears in her eyes killed him though. He pulled her tight into his arms. "Our kids are going to be so lucky to have you as their mother. Your heart knows no limit. And I know they will always feel loved and know love." He kissed her head and held her till the tears subsided.
"I know this month is crazy busy but how about we go visit her grave. You talk to her. Might help you release some emotions." He had no idea where this women was buried or if it would help but he had to try, for her. "Yeah maybe. I don't know where she's buried. The person who owned her house didn't know. And I figured why ask my family since they didn't care enough to tell me in the first place." She shrugged. "I will have Mouse look into it. I'm sure he can find it easily enough. In fact I will text him right now. Your moms mom right?" He asked for clarification. Once she nodded he sent the message to Mouse asking him to find anything he could about her death and where she was buried. He knew it wouldn't take long but he had his hands full with Kim and didn't want to be distracted.
They finished making dinner and then curled up on the couch watching reruns of old cop shows. Kim ruining the plot every time. Adam just laughed it off but was a bit surprised how she knew it within seconds of the show starting. It was kind of sad but also scary. He also couldn't believe she could guess the approximate season by who was in the cast. It was insane but she was happy and relaxed. It was all that mattered. It was close to 10 when his phone dinged with all the information he needed. He read over it before talking to Kim. "Alright so I got a text from Mouse with the information. Apparently she died from a Leukemia. And she's buried in your favorite place Ellicot City Maryland. So it looks like we have to take a trip to your birthplace so you can say goodbye." He felt her stiffen at his words but knew it was because it was not a place she ever wanted to go again. He had hope that it would help set her free from the pain of the past. Even if only a little.
They both were startled by Adams phone buzzing with a new text message. He looked at and groaned. "Tell me it's not a new case?" Kim asked looking at his hardened face. "Nope but not someone I want to talk to either." He put his phone down. "Hey what ever it is we can handle it?" Kim was very concerned. "It's just Wendy. My ex before you. She said she needs to talk to me. I couldn't give two shits about her." Adam sighed. "Well you can ignore it if you want. Or you can just talk to her. Maybe it's something important. Maybe it's not but at least you will know for sure. If she was in trouble and you ignored it and she got hurt, you would never forgive yourself. Just invite her over and you can figure it all out. I trust you and know where your heart lies." Kim explained. He pulled her into his lap kissing her passionately.
"Thank you. I will text her now." He pulled his phone back out and sent her a text inviting her to his new place giving her the address and telling to text when she got there so he could buzz her up. Wendy responded right away that she was on her way. "Should we get dressed appropriately before she gets here?" Kim looked at their outfits and back at Adam. "Maybe we should. I doubt being half naked is appropriate." He picked her up carrying her to the bedroom dropping her on the bed. He grabbed some jeans and a flannel to put on while Kim grabbed some leggings and a hoodie. Not even 20 minutes later his phone buzzed again signaling she was there. He replied letting her know to go to the 4th floor and it was the door on the left. And asked Kim to buzz her in. He was taking a few extra deep breaths before talking her. He had a bad feeling that he couldn't place.
Kim buzzed her in and grabbed some papers from the small desk by the door. She always had non disclosure forms handy when new people came over just to protect herself. She placed it on the table with a pen when she heard a knock on the door. "Adam baby! She's here!" Kim called out right before she opened the door. "Hi you must be Wendy. Please come on in. Adam will be right out. Can I get you a drink?" Kim opened the door wider for her to come in. "Um yeah thanks. Who are you?" Wendy asked walking in cautiously. "Oh how rude of me, I'm Kimberly Burgess. It's nice to meet you. And now if you don't mind if you could just read this form and sign it that would be great. It's just your standard non disclosure agreement, if you mention to anyone this address or that you saw me here with Adam I get to sue you for 10 million dollars." Kim handed her the pen. She had noticed Adam had entered the room looking smugly at her.
"Darling! Thanks for letting her in." He kissed her forehead letting his lips linger making it clear he had moved on. "Hey Wendy. What did you want to talk about?" He asked taking a seat at the table. "Um is this for real?" She asked. "It's absolutely real. You need to sign that before we can talk." He stated sternly. "Fine I will sign this but what's going on here? I don't understand." Wendy asked weirded out. "Well as you can tell Kim is a celebrity and with my undercover work I need to stay out of the papers. But no one needs to know where we leave. One stalker getting through that door was enough. As for Kim, she's my wife. Now tell me what exactly did you want to talk about?" He explained already annoyed with her presence. "You're married? Already? Baby I thought you just needed some time to forgive me. I want you back." Wendy was fighting the tears.
"You wanted me to forgive you and give you a second chance after you cheated on me in my own apartment! What you thought you would walk in her obviously pregnant, but not far enough for it to me mine, and what thought I would take you back? And raise your lovers baby? Yeah not gonna happen. I'm happy. Happier than I have ever been. So just leave us alone. We want to live in our happiness and be dragged down by you and your bullshit." Adam got up and opened the door indicating that it was time for her to go. She moved out the door crying as she went. Adam locked the door behind her turning to look at Kim. "Well that was fun! Are you ready for bed?" He just walked over to her. "Yeah let's go! I think you could use some extra loving tonight. But just so you know I love the way it sounded when you called me your wife even if I'm not legally one yet." She smirked pulling him into a deep passionate kiss.
"So since that particularly stressful for you. You can have and do whatever you want tonight." Kim gave him complete control over the night knowing he needed it after that whole experience with Wendy. "You know it was stressful but all I really want is to make love to my soon to be wife. You supported me completely through that and never lost faith in me or us. Even when you clearly saw she was pregnant. I can never thank you for that." He had moved closer to her taking her in his strong arms. "Always! Trusting you is easy. You have never given me any reason to doubt you. Now enough with talking. Let's let our bodies do the talking." She watched as he slowly striped his body then hers before taking her to their. Making love to her till they were both exhausted.
It had been an amazing day filled with highs and one very strange low. But they had never been stronger.
