It had been a few days since the couple arrived in Paris. They had done plenty of sightseeing and shopping but tonight they were headed out on the town after Kim performed. I can't wait till you are my wife officially." He kissed her softly. "I didn't do anything. But this has been an incredible week and I can't wait for you to be my husband officially. And for the record I love the fuck out of you." Kim smiled wildly knowing how he loved her saying fuck. "Come on let's go!" He growled.
The couple got seated quickly falling asleep almost right away. When the couple landed it was still early in the morning. The couple got all their luggage and headed right to the hotel which was in the airport to sleep even if only for a couple more hours. Adam awoke the first the next morning loving that Kim was still sleeping. He looked over at the clock seeing that they needed to get moving. They were meeting Kim's friends in an hour. "Darling! We have to get moving quickly. We are meeting your friends in an hour." He felt her sitting up kissing his chest right before stretching out. "I will start the shower so we can head out." He kissed her head softly as he stood up. He returned from the bathroom seeing her going through her things to get in the shower. He smiled watching her move around the room.
She walked past him in to the bathroom before reaching out to grab his wrist. Her eyes said everything, she didn't want to shower alone. They took a quick shower before getting dressed and heading out to the ballpark. It wasn't a far ride but traffic was bound to be nasty. So Kim decided to take the Septa line from the airport to right outside the ballpark. It was literally just easier. They arrived out front of the ballpark complex and started to walk towards Citizens Bank Park. "So are you excited for the game?" She asked as they walked hand in hand. "Yeah this looks really cool so far. All the people tailgating, the people playing instruments for money, tons of vendors selling shirts. It's a good vibe." He was looking around checking it all out as they walked. "Well Keith and Nicole are waiting by the Mike Schmidt statue. But before we meet up, Nicole entered rehab so we aren't drinking around her. She has less than a month under her belt so we all need to be supportive." Kim tried explaining without being too loud. "Hey that's fine! And I'm proud of her. From what you have told me that was the best decision for her, for them. So let's go now." He leaned down to kiss her softly before they continued to walk. He followed her lead since she was very familiar with the area.
Both girls started to yell when they saw each other running to hug each other. The guys laughing but shared a bro hug. "Alright who's ready to see the game?" Kim was excited for this. "Well we definitely are since you were in Paris for your birthday. So let's head in and get some food I'm sure you are hungry!" Nicole laughed knowing Kim never ate before the game. Saving the calories for the ballpark. "I'm so excited let's go!" The girls walked arm in arm laughing as they got to the entrance. Kim scanned all tickets and then they walked around the ballpark showing Adam all his options for food. "Alright so I'm in Philly so cheesesteak?" He asked looking for insight. "Sure. I think Tony Lukes is the best available so let's go." They headed over Kim pointing out cool things. The girls taking selfies as they went. "How many people does this stadium hold?" Adam asked unaware of just how big it was. "Anything over 42,000 is considered a sell out." Kim laughed watching his jaw drop.
After getting some found they headed to the club area. Kim wanted a crab cake sandwich but also wanted to sit at a table to eat so that's what they all did. The group sat around a small table talking about everything. "So you guys are going to see Jim tomorrow right?" Keith asked, "Yeah I haven't seen him since the last time I was east so I'm excited but also nervous to see him. See how he's doing now. I know the memory is getting worse so I'm not sure what to expect really." Kim shrugged knowing it would be hard. "You are right his memory is getting worse. He still thinks it's 1967, but still thinks he owns the red Jag that he got in 1996. He repeats himself asking the same questions and he gets frustrated easily. Hopefully it's a good day. Maybe take him outside for a bit." Nicole knew this was everyone's worse nightmare. Watching someone you care after slipping away mentally. It was brutal. "We got this. Don't stress yet. Let's enjoy today. I expect epic rants my dear!" Adam got her laughing as he pulled out his phone to show them her rants from spring training. Keith and Nicole crying in laughter.
The food finished shortly after so they headed to the seats, Kim loved club level seats since you could see everything but also got the heat and AC which was extremely important. "Good seats! I'm liking this already." Adam got comfortable only for Kim to stand and start yelling as her team took the field. He had never seen her yell this loud before and cheer so hard and game hadn't even started yet. As the opposing team took the field he listened as Kim booed each playing laughing at her silliness. The guys talked while the girls chatted away bit Kim's focus never left the field. And after a particularly tough at bat a very inside pitch left the batter on the ground barely missing being hit. Kim was on her feet screaming and yelling at the pitcher. Down right threatening him. Adam would have been concerned but see wasn't the only one yelling threats. "Is it always like this?" He asked quietly once she settled. "Yeah! This is Philly! This is what we do! It is why teams hate coming here. It is why we are listed as some of the worst fans. Don't fuck with Philly!" Adam laughed so hard at her impassioned speech. Though those around her agreed. And not just her friends, all the fans around them agreed.
Another two innings and Kim was in her feet screaming once again about a bad call this time yelling at the refs. Adam tried to calm her down but it didn't work so he let her yell. Only offering her a drink when she plopped back down huffing. "You got a voice left after all that?" He laughed seeing her dagger eyes. "This is normal for her. She's fine. If they lose just get her some ice cream." Keith knew all too well how crazy Kim could be at a game. It wasn't the first time nor the last they would be here together. When the drinks dried they headed in for more drinks and more snacks. Kim had things she wanted to eat but knew sharing was the best options for her weight constraints. They grabbed the crab fries with cheese and a braided pretzel with waters before heading back to the seats. "I got to admit this place has some really good food. And this has been a really good time. I'm happy we did this." He wrapped his arm around her kissing the side of her head as they shared the fries and then the pretzel.
The game came to a close with the Phillies winning by 2 runs and Adam videoed Kim singing along to the prerecorded song. It was a vintage track that Adam didn't know but it seemed tradition here so he watched her sing her heart out with small tears in her eyes. Nicole standing right next to her dancing away. The group chatted some more not trying to hard to leave knowing traffic would be a nightmare. So they relaxed and chatted more trying to get to each other better. Kim was loving the effort they all made to make a friendship and to bond. After another 30 minutes the group started to walk towards the parking lots. The coupes went separate ways after hugs and some tears but agreeing to hang out again soon. Kim led the way back to the septa station so they could head back to the hotel. "What's the agenda for tonight?" He wasn't sure if she had big plans or not. "I don't know. It's not too late in the day but it's also a Sunday. So I'm not too sure. Maybe some dinner and an early night sleep before tomorrow. Anything you want to do?" She asked knowing he hadn't been before.
"I think most of the things I would want to do are probably closed or closing soon because it's Sunday. Which means we just have to come back soon." He knew that would make her very happy. "Sounds like a good plan. And I have an idea of something to do but no idea how to get there using the train so let's get a Uber." She pulled out her phone typing where she wanted to go. It was a short wait luckily. "So where are we headed?" He was very curious. "Well I thought we could go to the Spruce Street Harbor Park. It has local vendors, food stands, mini golf and I think roller skating. Plus it's on the water." She explained pulling it up on her phone. "Looks cool and nice to stretch the legs a bit." He handed her the phone back as their Uber arrived. After confirming the location the couple was off. Adam watched the city go by. See the water close by as well. It reminded him of Chicago but he really did want to explore the history one day soon.
When they arrived the couple got out and started to walked through all the vendor sites first. Kim loved shopping local and small businesses when she could so this was a nice way to see what was available. She found several soaps that smelled nice and some jewelry pieces that looked cool. Kim got a bag of crabby popcorn before they walked towards the mini golf. They closer and sat on a bench just watching the water. Adam noticed the glow was back. It seemed it was any type if water that caused the glow. He took a quick photo knowing she wouldn't even realize it. He was just happy to see her relaxed and munching on her popcorn. He had to admit it was pretty good so he happily partaking in the snacks. Even once it was finished neither made an attempt to move. He knew she was just happy looking over the water. "How are you really feeling about tomorrow? I know you gave an answer earlier but I could tell you were sugar coating it." He watched her smile like he knew her too well.
"Well I'm definitely excited to see him. But I'm definitely nervous for what I'm going to see. I know he's in better health than he was last time I saw him but mentally he's worse. So it's a pretty mixed bag I guess. I know it's going to be hard seeing him on a bad day but it's life so I will deal with it. Just happy you will be by my side this time. That will make it easier. Just a heads up he lives in a gated community, on a golf course. His home is for sale for 1.45 million. It's over 9000 square feet with two kitchens, two bars, a wine cellar and a theater room. It's insane. But he's humble and down to earth. He's only living in the finished basement now but it's referred to as the lower level. It's truly insane how big this house and property is." Kim took her eyes off the water to look over to Adam who was slack jawed. "Yeah thanks for the heads up. That's insane! I can't even imagine hanging out there all the time and I know you did. Craziness!" He smiled seeing the relief on her face knowing he wasn't running from the crazy.
"Maybe we could take him out to dinner? It's Monday so his usual restaurants won't have that usual suspects but there is a diner close by we could take him to. It's not far and he likes it there." Kim shrugged a bit. "I think that's a nice idea. I'm sure he would enjoy that." Adam wrapped his arm around her pulling her closer for a kiss. "Thank you for putting up with all this craziness. I do appreciate it." Kim kissed him softly. "Nothing to thank me for. We are just visiting a friend and taking him out to eat. That's pretty normal. This is what we do when you love someone." He smiled reaching out to take her hand leading her to the mini golf. "Let's play!" Kim winked. "Are you challenging me?" He laughed loudly. "Oh absolutely! Are you up for the challenge?" She laughed back loving this friendly banter. "Bring it darling!" He loved watching her relax and have fun. Seeing her be childlike, letting her inner child shine.
Neither played this course before and Kim couldn't remember ever playing mini golf but she was willing to try her best to beat him at the game. The couple had fun trying to one up each other each hole. They laughed and giggled the entire round. They throughly enjoyed it and agreed to play again Chicago. Adam won the game laughing as Kim pouted. He kissed her hard lifting her up carrying her towards the roller rink. He wanted her to have all the childhood experiences and this was one of them for sure. She was nervous but he promised to hold her the entire time. He helped lace her skates before lacing his and then helped her up. He led her gently to the rink staying close to the wall just in case. He loved her watching try new things but this may have been his favorite since he got to touch her the entire time. "You ready?" He asked. "Yeah let's try this." He helped them move around the rink slowly at first till she seemed to get the hang of it. As she got more comfortable she took off on her own laughing the whole time.
It started to get dark and the couple decided to head back to the hotel and order dinner in. They were getting tired and the jet lag was catching up to them both. The cab ride wasn't that long but they ordered food as they rode so it would be quicker. They got settled into their room as they waited for dinner to arrive. "Two childhood experiences crossed off the list today. Was it all you imagined?" He watched her smiling as she thought about it. "It was a ton of fun! And we have to them both again soon. It was nice just being able to have fun with no one watching us and no one caring we were there. I love it and love you!" Kim explained as she hugged him tight. "I love you too. But I also love seeing you shining bright as you get to experience all these new things. The laughter was childlike, your smile wide and your glee was bright. I can't wait to see more of that!" He kissed her hard before heading to the lobby to grab their dinner.
He returned to find her waiting for him on the couch. "Hope you are hungry?" He asked seeing her eyes lighting up. "Starving! Bring it on!" Kim got up to help with the food before digging in. Neither spoke during dinner just enjoying the peace and soft touches. Kim cleaned up they were finished eating. "What should I expect tomorrow?" He asked holding her on his lap. "Um a long ride. Jim probably not being really aware of the present time. Plenty of signs he's not totally being cared for by his family. Signs they are using him and don't respect him or his property. Probably a huge mess since no one cleans up after themselves. It's a shit show to say the least. It's why I help out so much. His aide asked for two months for a different shower head that had the handle part so she could shower him easier. That should have been right away but after two months I just bought it and asked a friend to install it for them." She paused adjusting herself so they could talk face to face.
"He's supposed to be on a high protein diet but yet he gets fed Mac and cheese for dinner. Or pasta with no meat. Bagel with cream cheese for breakfast. Or better donuts for breakfast. It's ridiculous!" Kim huffed. "Oh then the trash piles up because they forget to take the cans up the driveway. Leave piles of mail all over the counters. The laundry room is piled high with clothes. The lawn doesn't get mowed, the weeds don't get pulled. It's a lot so I help where I can." Kim shrugged a bit. "Sounds like they aren't trying all that hard. I get it's been 5 months of dealing with this but the effort is being made to make things better. Also sounds like spoiled people who would rather have someone else do the work." He wasn't really sure but it sounded right. "The grandson doesn't have a job. Even with the aide there he still hasn't gotten a job. And he doesn't even go to the grocery store, he just has everything delivered. So he's paying way more plus all the fees. His credit card bill has been over 4000 a month. It's beyond insane! Oh and he broke the Audi Jim has more times than I could count. It's ridiculous and just pisses me off." She fell against him.
"Sounds like a bunch of shit and I hope I can keep my mouth shut when I meet him." He shook his head angry for a man he didn't know. "Oh you can tell him off I doubt he will listen. When he was told off about all the fast food he denied it! Was more concerned about who was spreading rumors about him. Refused to admit that he was the cause of the 15 pounds of water weight. Still won't admit it. It's just sad. Jim could have been living a much better life already but nope. His 15 years old autistic grand son helps take care of him. And that kids a creep! He's followed me to the bathroom before, tried to trap me in the laundry room. And worse we plays with himself in the living room where people can see him. I refused to be left alone with him. But he's free labor so they have him watching Jim. The whole situation is just nuts." Kim sighed as she buried her face under his chin.
"Sounds crazy but I'm here. We will face it tomorrow together. For now just rest. We can worry about tomorrow for sure." He kissed her softly before helping her into bed. They settled together in the bed wrapped together. She fell asleep almost right away. He fell asleep shortly after her. He was just happy to keep her safe from the outside world.
