It was a new week and Adam was returning to work after spending the weekend having people over to see their new place. It had been a great weekend and fun for everyone. Kim had planned to relax a bit and run a few errands which was exactly what Adam wanted for her. When he left her she had been heading into the studio to workout a bit. He loved their life. It was truly more than he ever imagined he could have. He entered the district happy and content but excited to get back to work. "Morning!" Adam stated as he came in to the bullpen. "Hey! Great time yesterday! The house is amazing!" Erin was still in love with their place. "Thanks! Kim really did a great job with it. But we love it for sure." Adam was so proud of her and the job she did. He loved coming home to the lake house. It brought him such joy and peace.
"Got to be honest man. When we met Kim we never thought she could be so much fun. But she's a lot of fun to be around." Kevin admitted though everyone kind of knew that already. "I get that. I really do. But she's a shit ton of fun. She just needs to learn how to trust people before she opens up. And that unfortunately takes time." He shrugged a bit. "I get that. She's been used by the people who should have protected her. That type of broken trust can't be fixed over night. So i get it." Antonio offered knowing Kim's life was hell at one point. "That's for sure. No matter how strong she appears she still dealing with all the broken trust, the betrayal, the using. But watching her heal, grow and learn is amazing. I'm so happy on this journey. It's been magical." He smiled wide thinking about Kim.
"So Ruzek! Apparently Kim and Erin were conspiring to get me to buy a lake house too. That what all the laughing was about." Jay added to the conversation. "Actually the laughing was because Kim told Erin she should ask while y'all were having sex." Adam laughed seeing his face. The team cracked up as well. "Really Er?" Jay was shocked. "It was her suggestion. And not a bad one. And honestly I don't think it was that expensive." Erin shrugged knowing that it wasn't really a conversation to be had here. "We can talk about it later. I'm sure no one wants to be a part of this conversation." He just wanted to discuss it in private. "That's fine. That's all I ask is a conversation about it." Erin hoped that could have an open conversation about it later. "If you decide you are interested I will let you know about the house to ignore. The lots beautiful but it's over priced and needs too much work. And they won't budge on the price. Broke Kim's heart for a bit. But I won't push it, only if you ask." Adam didn't want to get involved but he wanted them to know just in case. "Thanks we appreciate that. It's good to know if we decide to go that route." Jay did appreciate the advice if asked for. He also appreciated that no one was getting involved.
"Alright now that's over let's get to work!" Voight needed the team to work on the current case. The teams all headed out to the current crime scene. Adam and Kevin jumped in the car heading to the scene. "I really loved the house. And how happy you both are. Plus she's a great cook. It's almost insane how good she is." Kevin really wanted Adam to know how happy he was for them. "Yeah she's such a good cook and baker. She really spends a good amount of time looking for new recipes to keep things fresh. She wants to keep us from getting bored with dinner. I appreciate that. You know I love to eat so this is very helpful." Adam replied loving Kim's cooking. "That's great! Well you can always bring leftovers for me. I love to eat too." Kevin added causing them both to laugh.
At the scene they saw the house was ransacked with two dead bodies. The team worked clearing the house and looking for evidence. Any ideas of what happened in this home. Adam felt his phone buzz but kept working knowing it could wait till they left. After several hours they left scene. It seemed they had an idea of what was going on. So they headed back to work on the leads. Adam checked his phone seeing Kim texted him about a workout class that was happening today that she was headed too. He saw the time and figured it was probably over by now. But he was happy for her since it was a class he knew she wanted to do. It had been booked solid for months so he was excited to see how it went. "Kim good?" Kevin knew exactly who texted just by Adam's face. "Yeah she was just letting me know she got into a workout class that was booked up. She should be done soon. It's outside her comfort zone so I'm excited to see how she did." He shook his head knowing it was really outside her comfort level.
"What class is it?" Kevin asked knowing she worked out a lot. "It's called Fly Dance Fitness. It's high energy dance class to energetic music. It looks insane. But it will help her for National Dance Day which is coming up. She's been prepping hard core for it. She's freaked out since she's staying home and Chicago is Hip Hop." Adam watched a Kevin's jaw drop. "Yup! She's scared to death about not being able to do it. And refuses to not go because that would be easier. I admire her for that but feel bad for her too. Let's hope this helps." Adam laughed thinking about Kim dancing hip hop. "I need to see this! Sounds crazy!" Kevin laughed thinking about it. "I can guarantee she's going to be sore tonight. Thank god for the big ass tub." Adam laughed again picturing how sore Kim would be. "Yeah she's going to be a mess tonight. Good luck!" Kevin laughed as they arrived back at the district.
"Let's get this done so I can go home and massage the wife." They laughed knowing she would need it. Everyone was working hard trying to solve the case, no one wanted to stay late. It was hard work for sure but they needed to find the person who did this. It was hours before they found the suspect they were looking for. The teams all headed out vests on, armed and ready for action. They arrived at the suspects home breaking into two groups one in front, one in the back. As they entered shots were fired at the police but they returned fire. The suspect getting shot Adam trying to put pressure on the wound to try to stop the bleeding. He wasn't giving up hope as they waited for paramedics. He was pulled off the suspect when paramedics arrived giving them the room they needed to work. He watched, hands covered in blood as they worked.
He saw them back away shaking their heads. He knew the suspect had died. While not the first one to die it still bothered him. It was only as paramedics were getting ready to leave they noticed Adam had blood on his leg. "Sir. You were hit." They pointed to Adam. "What? No way." He looked over his body finding the wound in this thigh. "Fuck! It barely hurts. Didn't even feel it." He shook his head. "Get it looked at! Just to be safe. It's obviously not bad but you need it cleaned up." Adam nodded and headed to the hospital. He decided to call Kim right away. "Hey baby! How's your day going?" Kim sounded cheerful. "Hey darling. Um just want you to know I'm headed to Med. I have a flesh wound on my thigh. I didn't even feel it but it has to be cleaned." He heard her sigh but also sniffle. "Okay I'm on my way. I was at the condo putting away the dry cleaning so I will come right over. Are you sure you are okay?" She rambled freaking out. "Darling. Please try to relax a bit. I honestly didn't even notice. Please bring me another pair of jeans." He asked hoping she hadn't left yet.
"Okay I'm grabbing it now. Anything else?" She asked hurrying around their place. "Nope I'm good. I promise. I love you." He knew she was scared. "I love you too! I will be there shortly." Kim hung up running to her car. As she drove to the hospital she was scared, holding back the tears as she went. She parked her car running to the hospital. "Excuse me what room is Adam Ruzek in?" Her voice shaking as well as her hands. "I'm sorry but only family can head back." The receptionist said. "Great I'm his wife. And his emergency contact! What room?" Kim was getting nasty as this point. "Ms Burgess!" She snapped her head around. "Come on back! He's doing fine. Literally 10 stitches. Some pain meds and taking it easy. It will be fine." Will stated. He knew she was on her way since he saw Adam coming in. "Right through there. Take care." Will left her be.
Kim entered the room shaking like a leaf. "Hey darling. See not that bad." He pulled her closer letting her cry. "These things will happen but I'm good. I honestly didn't even feel it as I tried to stop the bleeding of the suspect. I only realized when the paramedics pointed it out. Please try to relax." He held her tight. He felt her crying softly. "Hey it's okay. I got you. We are safe." He just let her cry it out as the doctor finished covering his wound. "Officer you are done. I'm going to start your discharge paperwork. I'm not writing a script for pain meds since you seem fine without them. If that changes let us know. Otherwise keep it clean and dry. No running till the stitches come out. Take it easy on the stairs. Any questions?" He asked. "Nope we are good thank you." Adam offered a hand shake. The doctor left after.
"Are you finishing shift today?" Kim asked still in his embrace. "Yeah I think so. I don't see a reason not to. I would rather save the days off for when we can travel." He saw her smile briefly. "Okay. I understand. Just know I'm worried about you and only want the best for you." She sighed a little. "I know that I really do. But look I'm getting dressed again with little issue. So I promise I will take it easy and be home tonight wrapped in your arms. Because I love you so damn much." He kissed her softly not wanting a scene in the hospital. "I love you too so fucking much!" She smirked knowing he loved hearing her curse. "God I love it when you say fuck!" He growled pulling in for a more passionate kiss.
"Little incentive to stay safe and get home in one piece." She smiled knowing they both needed a little sugar, a little fire. "I promise no more street time this week. I'm on a desk duty the rest of the week. I already know that. So it's good. Peace of mind for you." He hugged you as they started to leave the hospital. They waved to everyone as they left. They shared one more very passionate kiss before they headed in separate directions. He was able to drive there so that eased her mind some. He headed back to the district in Kevin's car knowing the team was still working hard. Kim headed back to the lake needing to clear her mind again. As he entered the district again he felt the pain of the pulling stitches. But he made it to the bullpen.
"Okay what did they say?" Voight asked as soon as he saw Adam. "10 stitches. No running till they are out. Told me to take it easy but nothing else." Adam shrugged. "Okay does Kim know?" He asked. "Yup! She met me there. Cried. But she's okay." He sat at his desk after handing Kevin his keys. "Alright good to hear. Get your paperwork done and then you can leave for the day." Voight headed back to his office to deal with the shooting paperwork. As soon as they all finished they decided to head out together for a drink. He texted Kim to let her know the plans but that he was only have one before heading home for dinner with her. She was fine with that giving her more time to relax. As the team settled around a table at Mollys Adam bought drinks for the team. "We should be buying you drinks since you were shot today!" Kevin laughed.
"Barely anything. Not worried about it at all. I'm thankful it wasn't worse. They gave me nothing for the pain that's how small it was." Adam shrugged not phased by it. "Well that's good. How pissed was Kim?" Erin asked knowing she was probably angry. "She wasn't. She was upset but she did good. She held strong most of the time. I think she needed to see it for herself that it wasn't that bad. She was headed back to the lake to relax on the dock." He knew she was doing okay but she would probably break later. "That dock definitely is her place. I couldn't believe how transfixed she was on the water standing in the dock. It was crazy seeing her glow like that. But you could clearly see the weight had been lifted off her shoulders." Jay had been so surprised seeing Kim like that. "It literally is her saving grace. That was exactly why I wanted that place for her. She's laughing all the time now, she's lite and airy. It's been truly amazing." Adam was thrilled with how well she was doing now that she away from the city.
He wondered if they could make it their everyday home but he knew the drive back and forth everyday for Kim twice a day would be too much for her. But he would seriously consider it if she started to back slide again. He was thrilled with her progress and he wouldn't allow her to back slide with any part of her health. She had come way too far to back slide. "Alright I'm out of here! Going home to the wife. See you guys tomorrow." Adam headed out excited to get home to Kim. He texted to let her know that he was on his way. She started dinner right away knowing he would be hungry when he got home. It was an easy enough dinner but it looked good and would be filling with the rice so she was excited for him to get home. She worked to clean the kitchen as she went not wanting a mess when he arrived. Kim turned on the music and danced as she worked.
She was sore from the workout earlier but her current dancing was nothing serious. Just some swaying, some shoulder shakes, lots of arm movements. She was even singing a bit just loving being free. Free to relax, free to heal, free to enjoy life, free to just be her. It amazed her how free she felt at the lake. Dinner was just coming out of the oven when Adam arrived home. "Hey darling! You look happy and relaxed." He dropped his bag walking closer to hug her tight. "Hey! How are you feeling?" She hugged him tight. "I'm good! Dinner smells delicious! What did you make tonight?" He kissed her forehead as he broke the hold. "I'm glad you are feeling good. I've been worried about you." She wasn't going to sugar coat it. "I know and I appreciate it. But I wouldn't have been able to drive myself to the hospital if I was that bad. Do you really think Voight would let me drive if I was that bad?" He knew she was scared. But it was okay, he was okay, they would be okay. "I guess not but I was still freaking out. I never want to see you injured. Just like you don't want that for me." He could see the fear in her eyes. "I get it. I really do. But how about we enjoy this dinner together and then relax on the couch snuggled together watching some baseball." He knew that would get her.
"Okay. I am hungry." She grabbed the plates and plated dinner before moving it to the table. "So what is it? You ignored my question earlier." He poked her side a bit. "Sorry but we had to talk about the other first. So it's a French onion dip chicken bake. It smells so good." Kim smiled as she sat down to eat. "Looks good to me." He moaned taking the first bite. "So good darling. And it has rice. That's great! Thank you for cooking again." He loved her so much for cooking every night. He was sure it couldn't be fun all the time but he loved her for it. "You know I don't mind cooking for you. And the off season allows me to do this for you, for us." She reached out to hold his hand. "I still appreciate it. I never had this. Even as a child I didn't have home cooked meals often. My mom tried but she claimed she was too busy with work. And my dad can't cook. So I really enjoy this time relaxing together. Enjoying meals together. This is what a family feels like I guess." He wasn't sure since he never really had one before. "I think so too. I was always in classes at night so I'm not sure either. But the days I was home my mom cooked. But it was all plain, boring, no flavor. I really try to not be like that. I think that's important for sure." Kim tried so hard not to be like her parents.
"Well I'm glad you cook with flavor. Makes me very happy. Kevin actually to.d me to feel free to bring leftovers for him any day." He watched Kim laugh a bit. "I'm sure we can make that happen." She smiled brightly. "So this week we start volunteering and this weekend we have a game. But Saturday I want to go to the farm market in town. It's something you've never done and really I haven't either. You game?" He asked knowing they wanted to explore and do normal couple things. "Sounds good to me! I'm excited to just be a normal person. I love when we can just be us without people watching. It's exciting!" He watched her dancing in her seat. "Well you are normal. But I understand what you are saying. It's nice when we aren't in downtown Chicago or NYC. I'm sure that might change after your sponsor ship fully takes effect. But for now I'm happy living in the moment. Living this life with you." He kissed her softly before they continued eating.
It was a lovely, peaceful dinner. The couple just enjoying the company. As they finished eating Adam cleaned up the rest of dinner. He left the leftovers out to cool before storing them in the fridge. He found Kim on the couch relaxing finding the channel for a game to watch. He moved her slightly so he could join her on the couch. "How are you feeling after your class today?" He asked knowing he had forgotten earlier. "Oh lord it kicked my ass! But I did better than I thought I would. Even the instructor said I did better than he thought I would do." Kim laughed a bit. "Well I promise you a bath later to relax your muscles." He kissed her as they settled in to watch the game. A few innings had gone by and Adam was up again looking for some left over dessert from the weekend. "Do you anything for dessert darling?" He asked as he rooted around. "Maybe a little bit cake?" She replied but her eyes were still on the game. "Okay you want the banana cake?" He was pretty sure that's what she wanted but he wanted to double check. "Yeah that works. I might have a bite of yours if you get the cannoli cheesecake bar." She smiled loving how sweet he was. "Sounds good baby!" Adam made them small plates heading back to the couch.
"Thank you baby!" She kissed him softly before turning her attention back to the game. "You are welcome. You cooked all the time. Me bringing you dessert is the least I can do." After he finished his plate he moved her to sit in his lap. Held her close enjoying the downtime. It was almost the end of the game before she spoke again. "Thank you for this. I will never be able to repay you for going along with this crazy idea. But I truly love that you did. And I truly love you." She whispered startling him for a moment. "Oh darling. You never have to thank me. I'm thrilled that we did this. I'm thrilled with how you are healing. And I love how relaxed we both are here." He kissed the side of her head. "I am so relaxed. I've never been this relaxed. But tonight I want to have some fun." She smirked madly.
"Well what kind of fun were you thinking about?" Adam asked smirking looking towards her. "Well what is something we both said we wanted to do?" She was trying to see if there was something specific he wanted to do but she had her own ideas. "Oh well there are many things we both want to do. Things we both want to try. But outside seems like it's too cool for that right now. So I know you once said something about things you wanted to try during dirty talk. Am I on the right path?" He looked into her eyes reading her. "Maybe." She smiled but her eyes were full of fire. "Uh well I think we should move this to your studio. Because that's what you were thinking right?" He asked knowing he had her dead to rights. "Maybe!" She laughed as he tickled her. "That's it!" He lifted her up throwing her over his shoulder carrying her to her studio. Kim laughed the whole way.
As they entered the studio he noticed her already had moved the reformers to the closet. And set up an air mattress with sheets and pillows. LED candles flickering around the room. "You planned all of this?" He looked around surprised but also he fell in love with her even more. "I thought after your bad day this would be a nice way to spend the evening." She was hoping this was where his mind was going. "It's perfect!" He moved closer seeing the glint in her eyes. "Is there more?" He wondered seeing the mischievous look in her eyes. She never spoke just removed the burner phone from her pocket, handing it to him. Now he was shocked. "Good damn girl I love you!" He kissed her hard. "I love the fuck out if you too!" She moaned as she wrapped her arms around his neck.
