*Picks up from previous chapter*
Luna- 10
When Luna had heard those words from the woman she had moved back some with an upset look on her face. Gia held her daughter's hand but the ten year old had snatched it back.
"I know you're mad but I can explain," Gia said.
"No. You left me just...just go away" Luna pushed her away.
"Lu Lu please"
"Don't call me that just go away"
The ten year old stormed away, Gia looked on as a tear fell from her eye. Soon after she had left the school. Luna had run out the back way, she didn't wanna get caught by her uncle's partners. The ten year old started to run as fast as she could.
As she ran a man from a van had watched her and began following her.
Gia was upset when her daughter shoved her away but part of her didn't blame her. She did abandon her for ten long years and didn't call or even write a letter. If she was in her daughter's shoes she'd feel the exact same way. The young woman had ended up at a bar and ordered some drinks.
As she drank them someone came in the bar, it was a man who was slightly older, he wore regular clothes and he went over and sat next to Gia.
"I guess things never change with you" The man, Terry said.
Before she could respond to him she looked at him and her eyes widened, her blood ran cold. "Terry"
"You thought you could leave New York without paying me?"
"I paid what I could"
"You owe men 10 grand you gave a mere 500 bucks. I want all my money. I expect it all or I'll have to pay your precious little girl a visit"
Gia had shot him a look. "Don't you dare bring my daughter into this"
"Then get my money or the next time you see her. Her head will be in a box"
"I'll do what I can"
Terry then left the bar and called his guy. "Pick the kid up. Gia needs to learn a lesson"
His other guy who was still following Luna, he got out of the van and followed the youngest Halstead. He caught up with her and quickly snatched her. Luna looked back scared as she tried to fight. As she fought he put a needle in her neck and pushed down. Soon the ten year old went limp in his arms as he put her in the van and drove off.
At 2:30 school had let out, Adam had waited outside the car for the mini Halstead as he called her. All the kids ran out the building and went their ways after the crowd of kids was gone Adam still didn't see Luna. He was getting a really bad feeling.
"Kev, I'm gonna head inside and see what's taking Luna so long," Adam told his partner.
"Want me to come with?" Kevin responded.
"Stay here for the moment"
Kevin nodded and Adam went inside, Adam went to the office and pulled his badge.
"Excuse me, Chicago PD, I was looking for a student. Luna Halstead"
The secretary looked in the folder. "She hasn't been back in class after lunch. We called and notified her father"
Adam phased out after that all he took in was Luna's missing. Jay and Will would have his and Kevin's heads. He ran out.
"Kev we got a problem"
Over at the 21st Will had gotten the phone call about his daughter missing. He marched up the steps to see his brother.
"Jay!" Will called going up the steps.
Everyone had heard the older Halstead, Jay was just getting off with Adam. His heart dropped. His niece was missing. When he saw his brother the brothers shared the same look. Jay had cautiously walked to his brother, Will already took the hint.
"No. Jay please" Will practically begged.
"Luna's missing," Jay told him, his voice choking up.
The young father collapsed against his brother, the air had been sucked from his lungs. His soul had been sucked from his body. Jay caught his brother and carried him to the lounge.
"Let's sit down bud" Jay put his brother on the couch.
"Y-you gotta find her Jay please"
"I will. You know I will. Would you know who could have done this?"
"Gia. Without a doubt in my mind"
"We can find her and question her. I give you my word we will find Luna"
All Will could do was nod, he felt numb. Incomplete. Without his daughter he was lost. Jay went out and to Hank's office, the older Sergeant looked.
"Everything ok?" Hank asked.
"Luna's missing," Jay answered, his voice quivering.
"We'll start looking. Do you or Will have any idea who could have taken her?"
"Her mother, Gia Kyle"
"Get Mouse to track her and I'll have her picked up"
Without wasting a second Mouse had started tracking Gia, he pinged her at a bar. Erin and Antonio went. Hank had no choice but to pull Jay off the case. Jay waited with his brother, Will was sobbing, the young detective had sat beside his brother and pulled him in for a side hug.
"We'll find her. I promise" Jay assured his brother.
Will buried his face in his brother's shoulder, he tried to say something but nothing came out except more sobs. He just gripped his brother tight. All Jay could do was hold his brother.
Erin and Antonio arrived at the bar where Gia was, there was no sign of the youngest Halstead. Erin marched over with a fierce look in her eye. She had considered Luna her niece, she and Jay had been engaged a few months now, she already had considered Will and Luna family.
"Gia Kyle?" Erin asked sharply, she was in no mood for games.
"What the hell do you want?" Gia asked, drinking another drink.
"Where's your daughter?" Antonio asked.
Gia turned to face them. "Who wants to know?"
"Chicago PD. Detectives Dawson and Lindsay, we work with Luna's uncle. Detective Halstead"
"What's Will saying I did now?"
"Your daughter is missing," Erin stated.
The young woman's heart sank. What? No. That couldn't be right.
"That's not possible. I just saw her not even an hour ago"
"And where were you when you saw her?" Antonio asked.
"I know what school she goes to, I snuck in and wanted to talk to her. I told her I was her mother and she pushed me away. I respected her wishes and left. Where's my daughter?"
"Let's take this down to the district"
"So help me if Will did this as a trick"
Erin then stepped in her face. "Will's more of a parent than you ever will be. Move it"
They brought Gia down to the 21st, they walked her inside and up to the squad. When Will had seen her all of his sadness went away now he was fired up. He was seething. Jay tried to stop him but was shoved away.
"Where's my daughter?" Will demanded, glaring at Gia.
"News flash Will, she's my daughter too" Gia shot back.
"She hasn't been your daughter since the night you abandoned her"
"I didn't abandon her!"
"You disappeared for 10 years and now you pop up! You abandoned her and you don't have the guts to admit it"
"Alright that's enough" Antonio said sharply between the angry parents. "Will go back with Jay to the lounge now. Gia, follow Detective Lindsay to interrogation"
"Not till she tells me where my daughter is" Will looked at the senior detective.
"Will come on man, let's go" Jay pulled his brother back.
"Where is she Gia?"
"Screw you Halstead! I bet this is your fault!" Gia yelled.
Jay was pulling his brother back to the lounge. Erin was taking Gia to interrogation. Will ran his fingers through his messy curls. After a moment Antonio joined the two brothers in the lounge, the young father looked to Antonio.
"I'm sorry, I'm not usually like this. But her coming back and Luna going missing it can't be a coincidence" Will said.
"She told us she went to Luna's school and saw her briefly but that was it" Antonio told the brothers.
Will had balled his fists together tightly, feeling his anger rise and his temper flare. Jay put a hand on his shoulder. Jay looked back to his friend.
"Did she say anything else?" Jay asked.
"No, she did seem surprised when Erin told her Luna was missing"
"Is it possible she may not know?" Will asked, his voice lowering.
"We're not sure yet until we talk to her. Besides Gia, would you know of anyone who'd wanna take her?"
"No she would have told me if anyone was bothering her or anything out of the ordinary"
Antonio looked to Jay, his look asking him the same question. Jay shook his head. "She hasn't said anything to me"
Will was shaking as Jay wrapped him in a hug. This was slowly killing the young father. Jay looked to Antonio with tears, his look spoke clear as day. Find Luna.
Erin was in the interrogation room with Gia, she glared at the young woman. She was no better than Bunny. Picking booze and everything else over her daughter. Gia looked at the detective with an annoyed look.
"You gonna go find my daughter or stare at me all day?" Gia snapped.
"I will find her after you tell me where she is," Erin replied sharply.
"I don't know where she is! The last time I saw her she told me I wasn't her mother and shoved me away"
"Why were you around her to begin with?"
"She's my kid. I wanted to see her"
"Why now? Why after all this time?"
"Because I can. Stop wasting your time with me and go find my daughter!"
"I suggest you watch your tone before things get really ugly. If you didn't take Luna, do you know of anyone who'd wanna take her? Did anyone make threats against you recently"
That had caused Gia's eyes to go wide. She had a feeling she knew who was behind her daughter's abduction. She shot up from the chair and to the door but Erin blocked it.
"No you don't"
"You don't understand, if I don't get him his money he'll kill her!"
"Who is he?"
"His name is Terry Malcom. An old bookie I knew from New York, he must have followed me out here. I own him ten grand, I only paid 500. He wants all of it. He threatened to take Luna if I don't pay him. He must have taken Luna"
"How can I find him?"
"That's the thing, you don't find him. He finds you"
"Does he know how to find you?"
"Most likely he does"
Before Erin could respond Gia's phone rang she pulled it out Erin put it on speaker and Gia started talking.
-Hello. Gia kept it cool.
-Where's my money? Came Terry's voice.
-I'm working on getting it. I need some time.
-You have 24 hours. No more, no less. And if you even think about going to the cops. Little Luna gets a bullet in her head.
Erin whispered something in her ear and Gia nodded at her.
-I understand. I want proof of life my daughter is alive.
There was a brief pause when a broken sob came on. -H-Hello.
Gia had swallowed the lump in her throat hearing her daughter scared and terrified. This was her fault.
-Luna, it's Gia. You're mom. Don't worry honey, I'm gonna bring you home.
-I want my dad.
-I know you do honey. I'm coming as fast as I can.
-There's your proof. Happy now? Terry came back on.
-Terry you bastard, you didn't have to take my daughter. She's innocent.
-I want my ten grand or your daughter dies. You have 24 hours.
Before Gia could respond the phone cut out, she dropped to her knees crying. As much as Erin didn't like her at the moment she was a mother desperate to get her baby back. She bent down to her level.
"This is all my fault, I got Luna kidnapped" Gia cried.
"You can make this right, you can get her back. I know some part of you loves Luna. I can see it. I need you to reach deep down inside you and get all that anger and fire. All of that. Use that to get Luna back"
"It won't matter if I get her back or not. Will is never gonna let me see her again"
"Will's angry and scared right now, so is Jay. This could prove to them that you love Luna and you'll do anything for her"
"I have to go tell Will I got our daughter kidnapped"
"I'll help you break the news"
The two women left the room and went to the lounge, Gia was nervous as she stood in front of the father to her daughter.
"It wasn't your fault that Luna got taken Will" Gia started. "It was mine"
Will raised his eye and felt his heart race. "What did you do?"
"When I was in New York I owed a lot of money to a bookie. I left New York to get away from him, he must have followed me"
"How much did you owe him?"
"Ten grand. After I saw Luna today he found me, said if I didn't get him his money he'd take Luna. He has her"
"What?!"
She winced hearing his voice raise but didn't blame him for getting angry it was her fault. She's kicking herself for it enough.
"I have 24 hours to get him his money or else.."
The young father wiped a hand down his face and stormed out before he would say something he would really regret. Jay had gone to follow his brother to help him cool off.
Gia looked at Erin and sniffed. "I told you. He's pissed, he'll never let me see her again"
"You can't be sure of that. Look, let him cool off. He's still angry and scared. He doesn't wanna say anything he'll regret"
"I don't know where to get ten grand, I don't have that kind of money"
"Let us figure that out"
She nodded and sniffed. After cooling off Will went back inside, Gia knew she shouldn't do it but she approached Will.
"I am sorry for what happened. I'm going to make things right, I'll get Luna back"
"I don't care about our differences, all I care about is getting Luna back. We can work our stuff out later. I just wanna find m- our daughter"
Gia then broke down crying again, it was the first time Will had mentioned Luna being their daughter together. As much as Will and Gia weren't on the same page for the first time in years they are. Will had hugged the mother of his daughter and held his own tears back. The two parents just cried and held onto each other.
Jay looked on watching, he then realized Gia was family. She was trying to be there for Luna. Trying to be a mother. She was a mother, Luna's. She would always be a part of the Halstead family just like Erin was. He knew what he had to do. He had to save his niece for them and that's what he was going to do. He was going to bring his niece home to her parents.
