Luna- 11
Will had started a relationship with his colleague, Natalie. They'd always had feelings for each other and never admitted them until now. Will had also gotten a better relationship with his daughter's mother, Gia. They co-parent their daughter the very best they could. Gia had been more active in her daughter's life, she had did the motherly thing by letting her stay with her father. She didn't wanna disrupt her life for her own selfish gain.
Will hadn't told Gia or his daughter about being with Natalie yet. He knew he had to tell Gia so it would affect their co-parenting relationship. One morning after getting Luna off to school, Will cleaned up what he could of the house and had Gia over. He had made a fresh pot of coffee as Gia walked in, Will had given her a spare key so Gia could be with their daughter at his house.
"Morning ginger snap" Gia says.
"Morning. I made coffee" Will responds.
"You're a lifesaver"
"How are things over at the district?"
Gia had given up her fed job in New York and moved to Chicago to be with her daughter, Jay had talked with Hank and vouched for her to join Intelligence. She had been partnered with Adam. Jay had made it crystal clear to his friend to keep away from his niece's mother in a romantic way.
"It's great. I really owe Jay for helping me get that job. So something's on your mind, what's going on"
"I'm seeing someone. Her name's Natalie, we work together. I didn't want you to find out on your own or hear it from Luna"
"Does Natalie know about Luna?"
"She does. All my co workers do, they love and adore her"
"Are you happy?"
"I am very much so"
"As long as you and Luna are happy I'm good. I do wanna meet her. I just feel protective of Luna being around another woman"
"I understand. I'd be the same way if you'd be seeing anyone"
"Does Natalie understand you have to put Luna first right"
"She does, she has a son of her own. Owen"
"How does Luna feel about all this?"
Will had stayed quiet. He hadn't told his daughter, he knew she was at an age she'd understand but he didn't know how to approach her about it. Gia had seen the look in his eyes.
"You haven't told her?"
"I don't know how. I don't want her to be upset, I don't want want her to feel Natalie is replacing you"
"If you want I can help you"
"Really?"
"Of course. We may not be together Will but were still friends and we have Luna to think about"
"Thank you" He took a swing of his coffee. "So are you?"
She drank some coffee and glanced at him. "Am I what?"
"Seeing anyone"
"Oh no. No. God no. My last relationship with this one guy was such a wuss. I gave up relationships and focused on myself. Working on being a better mom to Luna"
"That's good. So between us how much of a wuss was he?"
"He collected dolls"
"You mean action figures"
"No, I mean actual dolls"
"Say no more I get it"
"Not to mention he was scared of everything, including his own shadow. It would be nice to get back out there but I don't know"
"If it makes you happy go for it"
"You think so?"
"Yeah, you shouldn't be tied down altogether with your job and taking care of Luna. It's why I'm here to help you. I don't mind keeping her if you wanna have a night out or a day out"
"Thank you Will"
"Anytime"
The day had passed and soon it was time to pick Luna up from school. Will didn't have to be at work until that night. Soon he'd be moving to day shift which somewhat complicated things. He shook all that off for now, he wanted to spend time with his daughter.
When he went to get Luna from school she was hunched over on the steps holding her stomach that had gotten the redheaded father's attention as he rushed over.
"Luna, baby what's wrong" Will scanned her over for any possible injuries.
"My stomach," She whimpered.
"Does it hurt or do you feel sick?"
"Both"
He placed a gentle hand on her forehead and she was warm. "You're definitely warm. I think you caught a bug. Let's get you home"
After he scooped his daughter up and got her in the car, Luna laid in the back seat half asleep whimpering as Will drove home. When he got there he carried his daughter in and up to her room, he let her change into some pajamas while he went to get her some cold medicine he kept handy along with some orange juice and soup.
The young father had been so wrapped up in taking care of his daughter and making sure she was alright, he had completely forgotten about his shift. Once he saw his daughter was asleep he stepped out to call Sharon letting her know he wouldn't be in that night. He was grateful he had a boss that understood.
Once that had been taken care of he set around doing light house work while his daughter slept. Once the light stuff had been done and some laundry was in the washer he made himself something small to eat, his front door opened and he went to see who it was. If he had to guess it was either his brother or Gia coming to check on Luna. But instead it had been Natalie.
"Nat, what are you doing here?" Will asked.
"Goodwin said you called in because Luna's sick. How is she?" The dark haired doctor replied.
"She's asleep for the most part. She's warm, mild fever. I think she caught a bug from a kid at school or something"
"Poor kid. Anything I can do to help?"
"I don't know yet. Aren't you supposed to be at work? I don't want you getting in trouble"
"I'm off. And Helen insisted on taking Owen for the night. Apparently I need a life"
What Will wouldn't do to be with her but his sick daughter came first. Which sparked something in his head.
"Nat, I told Gia about us"
"You did?"
"I had to. It took us a while to repair our relationship and we had to for Luna's sake. We don't hide anything from each other because somehow it will involve and affect Luna. I don't wanna mess up our relationship because I didn't tell her this. She'd be furious. Just like if she were dating someone, I'd wanna know because I want to know who my daughter is going to be around"
"You are an amazing father Will, don't let anyone tell you otherwise"
"Thanks Nat"
"Go check on Luna and I'll make us some food and her some soup"
Will had gone to check on his daughter, Luna had been tucked under her blanket, fast asleep he left a light fan on to keep her cool. She had slightly stirred a bit her eyes cracking open a bit.
"Daddy" Her voice cracked.
"Hey, how are you feeling honey?" He says gently, going to her.
"I don't feel good"
"I'm sorry baby, here sit up and I'll take your temperature"
Slowly she sat up and with a thermometer he took her temperature. He waited for the small device to beep and it registered her temperature.
"101.4. It's high"
"Does that mean I have to go in? Is Uncle Ethan or Uncle Connor gonna help me?"
"If it gets any higher I will for now, Natalie is gonna make you some soup"
Luna stayed quiet, she wasn't dumb if she picked anything up from Jay it was to observe people. She knew her father liked Natalie. The two were like high school kids, they had been head over heels for each other. Will saw the look and had a gut feeling he knew what was bothering her now.
"What's wrong little star"
"I don't want a new mom. I like having my mom"
"What are you talking about honey?"
She sat up looking down. "I know you like Natalie. You're probably dating her. Which means you're going to marry her and that means I'll get a new mom. I don't want a new mom. I like having my mom"
He moved and pulled his daughter into his arms and gently rocked her. "Sweetheart, that would never happen. Just because Natalie and I are seeing each other doesn't mean we're gonna get married right away. We're nowhere near discussing that yet. Besides, even if Natalie and I got married, she would never replace your mom"
"You swear?"
"I promise. I'd never let anyone replace your mom just like your mom wouldn't let anyone replace me"
"Replacing you that be a hard sell," Came Gia's voice.
The father and daughter looked over and saw Gia standing there, she walked in and sat on her daughter's bed and kissed her head.
"How did you know where I'd be?" Will asked.
"I'm Superwoman, I can read minds" She teased. "You never went to work and they said you called in to care for Luna because she's sick. I came over, I assume that's Natalie downstairs. I don't think she heard me coming in"
"Sneaky ninja"
"Very much so. Now what's the conversation between you two about"
"Dad and Natalie being together," Luna told her mother.
"She was afraid of me being with Natalie, she'd replace you" Will added for his daughter.
"My baby, that'll never happen," Gia says, hugging her daughter. "No matter who your father and I see, we can't be replaced. You only get one mom and one dad"
"It's just, you came back. I don't want nobody to replace you and I don't wanna lose you" Luna replies softly.
"I promise you'll never lose me and nobody can replace me. I'm here to stay"
The sick girl hugged her mother. "I love you mom"
"I love you too my baby"
Will smiled, even though he and Gia were broken up. It was good to see her bonding with their daughter. It was all he wanted for her. The trio went downstairs and Natalie had fixed a small dinner.
"Nat you didn't have to" Will told his girlfriend.
"I wanted to. I made soup for Luna. For the rest of us I heated up a lasagna and made a simple salad" Natalie replies with a smile.
They all had sat down and eaten, Luna managed to eat half her soup and drink her orange juice. Gia gave Will a look and he nodded. He took his daughter back up to bed and tucked her in. Gia looked at Natalie.
"Let me help you with the dishes," Gia offered.
"Thank you," Natalie replied.
The two started cleaning the dishes and Gia glanced at her. "You make Will really happy"
"He makes me happy. We make each other happy"
"That's really good. I'm happy for both of you. I just hope that mine and his relationship affect yours with him. Whatever happened between Will and I it's in the past. All me and him have to worry about is our daughter. I'm not the jealous ex. I just wanna make sure Will's good and happy as is Luna. I want what's best for him and my daughter"
"I completely understand. I'm the same way with my son. He comes before any relationship"
"Happy to hear that. We'll be great friends Natalie"
"I hope we will"
Will was outside the kitchen listening and smiled. His girlfriend and the mother of his child are on good terms. He didn't want to be the guy caught in the middle of a nasty fight. This is hopefully the start of something new in his life.
