*Takes place during the Ray Burke storyline. Will contain material from the show and mine as well. Will try and make this my version not from the show*
Luna- 11
After Pat Halstead had died, Will and Jay were hurt. They may not have always gotten along with their father but no matter what, at the end of the day he was their father. Will somewhat regretted keeping his daughter away from his father. Now Luna would never have a relationship with her grandfather.
Luna had tried to help her father and uncle while they grieved, this was her first loss but she didn't know how to take it being she wasn't close to her grandfather. The night of his wake she was there with her parents and Jay. Will was with Natalie, they each had a cup and drank some. Jay was away from them drinking beer after beer, the words in his head played over and over like a loop.
Gia had also gone, like her daughter she didn't know Pat but she was going to be there for her daughter's father and Jay. They were her family now. She had kept her daughter close. Will stepped away from Natalie to get her and him fresh drinks, while he did that he was going to check on his family.
First he had gone to Gia and his daughter, Gia managed to find a place to sit with her daughter. Luna laid on her mother's shoulder, the tall Halstead man saw them and smiled.
"Are you guys doing alright?" Will asked.
"We're good. Are you ok? I know this is a difficult time" Gia replied.
"I'm doing good" He then bent down to his daughter. "And how are you doing little star"
Luna smiled sleepily. "I'm ok dad"
"Stay with your mom, we'll leave soon"
"I hope it's not too late she does have school tomorrow" Gia reminded him.
He looked at her. "I know"
He kissed his daughter's head and went to find his brother. He found Jay sitting on a step and drinking another beer, his brother's tie loosened and hanging his dress shirt unbuttoned and loose.
"Jay, how are you doing man?" Will asked his brother.
The young detective looked at his brother, his eyes glossy with tears. "Hey man. I'm good"
The redhead patted his brother's shoulder, during the wake Will had run into one of his old childhood friends. Tim Burke. He told Will his father was sick and didn't want to go to the hospital, so he agreed to do a house call.
After the wake Gia had taken Jay and her daughter home, Will had taken Natalie home. When Gia got her daughter home, Luna had gone to get ready for bed. Will had gone to check on his daughter being Gia had her for the week, they would alternate time with her.
Grabbing a water bottle from her fridge she drank half of it when she heard her front door open and Will coming in. She looked to see him.
"Thought you went home for the night with Natalie" She spoke.
"I dropped her off so she can put Owen to bed. I wanted to see Luna, make sure she's alright" Will replied.
She nodded. "Say who was that one guy you were talking to tonight? Big heavy set guy"
"Just an old friend from childhood. Tim Burke, his father Ray, he's not doing so good. I said I'd go over tomorrow and check him out"
"Should you be doing that?"
"Why not? ED docs make house calls all the time"
"I just don't want you doing anything that'll get you into trouble, Will. I'm looking out for you. I don't wanna see you losing Luna"
"I promise I won't. I swear"
"You better keep it that way"
"You were always so protective"
"I always will be. I have to think about you and Luna. Like I said Will just because we aren't together doesn't mean I won't worry about you. You're my friend and my daughter's father, were family Will"
The two looked at each other, old feelings had been showing. They hadn't been together in almost 12 years. The old feelings they once had were slowly showing. Gia snapped out of it.
"You should go see Luna, I gotta get her lunch packed for tomorrow and then get my stuff ready for work"
Soon Will had snapped out of it. He couldn't have those feelings for Gia, he was now engaged to Natalie. He couldn't have those feelings for her. He did love her and care for her but he wasn't in love with her. Or was he? Either way he shook all that off and went to see his daughter.
Luna was up in her room getting ready and climbed into her bed, Will gently knocked and peeked in. "There's my girl"
"Hi daddy"
"You already for bed?"
She nodded, her red curls slightly flying. "Yup"
He went over and tucked the blanket around her and kissed her head. "Sweet dreams. I'll pick you up after school tomorrow while your mom and Jay are at work"
"Dad, do you think grandpa would have liked me?"
That made Will freeze. That was a bit difficult. His father never approved of his or Jay's choices in life. He loved them but never really showed it. Will didn't know if his father would have approved of his daughter.
"I'm sure he would have loved you sweetheart. Time for bed"
"I love you daddy"
"I love you too my little star"
With one last kiss to her head he cut her light off and quietly left the room going down the stairs, Gia was still in the kitchen. Will went there.
"She'll be out for the night. I'm gonna head out. I'll pick Luna up after school tomorrow"
"Thank you, I have to help with a joint case with the feds"
"Big case?"
"Yup. Say uh, I never actually thanked you for our arrangement for letting me keep Luna. She's an amazing little girl so sweet"
"That she is. She gets the stubbornness from the Halstead side"
"Don't I know it, she's just like you. She's your mini me"
Will chuckled. "That she is. I gotta go see you tomorrow"
"Have a good night Will"
"You too Gia"
After Will left, Gia was thinking to herself. Could the reason she never let herself move on is because she does have feelings for her child's father? Every relationship after Will failed. The only relationship that worked was Will. But Will was with Natalie. He was in love with her. No. She wouldn't allow herself to have those feelings again for him, they had a good stable relationship and friendship for themselves and their daughter. She didn't wanna wreck anything by bringing up any old flame feelings.
As Will drove home, he couldn't help but think about Gia. He remembered back in college when they would date. They had been so happy with each other. They made each other laugh. He was head over heels in love with her. She had given him the best gift of all in their little girl. Immediately Will shook his head. No way in hell he could have those old feelings for another woman. He was engaged for god sake. He was in love with Natalie. He worked too hard to get his relationship stable with her. He didn't wanna wreck it.
By the next day Gia had taken her daughter to school and went to work with Jay as they were working on the joint task force case. Bright and early Will was awake, he went to shower and got dressed. He could go treat Ray, do any other errands and then pick up his little girl and spend the day with her.
The older Halstead went to the Burke house hold, he was walking with Tim inside carrying his medical bag.
"How long has it been since you've been here Will?" Tim asked.
"Oh years, everything still looks the same" Will replied, a smile on his face.
He saw another man on the couch. "Hey Tommy"
"Will," He replied.
Tim told his father he brought Will, an older man with white hair stepped forward. "Will Halstead, good to see you son"
"Good to see you too Mr. Burke" Will replied.
"Ray please, how are you kid? Anything new with you?"
"I am a father actually"
"No kidding"
"I have a little girl, she's my pride and joy"
"What's ner name?"
"Luna. I call her my little star"
"You sound like a good father"
"I try everyday to be one and I'm getting married soon"
"No kidding"
"Yeah, venues have either been booked or cost a fortune"
"Well?"
The redhead looked slightly dumb founded. "Well what Ray?"
"Are you gonna ask me?"
"Oh no. Ray I can't ask that of you"
"You're technically not asking"
"Thank you, I really appreciate it"
Will then began examining him. "You don't sound too good. I hear a slight murmur. I do recommend going to the hospital"
"I don't do hospitals Will"
"There's only but so much I can do, you needs tests and other things done and need to follow up with a cardiologist"
"I said I'm fine"
"Alright, I'll bring these to the hospital and call you with the results"
"Thanks kid. Bring that little girl of yours around I wanna meet the mini Halstead"
"I will do my best she's with her mother this week"
After that Will had left and taken what he needed to Med, while he waited on the results he checked his phone. Natalie had seen him and went over.
"Hey, what are you doing here on your day off?" Natalie asked, smiling.
"Just getting something checked and making Lu Lu an appointment" Will replied, hoping Natalie would see through his lie.
"Is she alright?"
"Yeah, I'm just being cautious from when she got sick before. Wanna make sure it's not anything major"
"You're a good father Will"
"I try"
Will had gone back and gotten Ray's results and called to tell him. "Everything looks good Ray, like I mentioned before I recommend you see a cardiologist...Yes I understand and I'm very appreciative and grateful.." He looked over at Natalie smiling. "Yeah I can see what I can do on my next day off. See you soon"
Before Will knew it the afternoon and he went to go pick up his little girl. He was gonna take her to the park and then to get ice cream, it was going to be perfect. Between working, dealing with his engagement and wedding planning he hasn't had any time with his daughter. It had actually been the longest he hadn't spent time with his daughter.
He arrived at the school as everyone was leaving, kids running to their buses, kids walking with their friends, or to their parents. WHen Luna came out she saw her father and smiled running to him.
"Daddy" She tackled him in a hug.
"My baby girl" Will smiled while hugging her. "Today for the afternoon, I'm completely yours until you have to go to your mom"
"Can we do anything?"
"Anything you want honey"
The redheaded father had taken his daughter's backpack and went to the car. Luna had gone to the car as well. Will had driven off going to the ice cream shop. He got a small vanilla ice cream and let his daughter get a small sundae.
"Daddy, there's a father daughter dance in a few weeks. Would you like to go with me?"
"I'd love to sweetheart"
"I really want us to match"
"I can try and make that happen"
After they finished their ice cream they went to the park. For the entire afternoon Will loved it, soon it was getting late and he had to take his daughter to her mother. When Will had arrived at Gia's place he walked her inside and Gia was inside. She was livid but wouldn't show it in front of her daughter.
Luna had run to her mother hugging her. "Hi mom"
"Hey sweetheart. I have to talk to your dad about something, I ordered Chinese for dinner. Go start your homework while you wait"
The eleven-year-old nodded and hugged her father, Will kissed his daughter's head and watched as she went upstairs. He then looked at the fuming look on his ex's face.
"What did I do?" Will asked.
"What do you know about Ray Burke?" Gia asked, trying to keep the anger out of her voice.
"He does some real estate, owns a bar, a construction company, and-" He was cut off before he could finish.
"A reception hall"
"Yeah"
"You went to see him?"
"Yeah he wasn't feeling well so I made a house call. How do you know?"
Gia pulled a small device out and played a recording.
"Hey Ray, your blood work looks good. I just recommend you see a cardiologist" Will said on the recording.
"I'm not going to a cardiologist, I want you Will I'm giving you that hall for like 2 grand that's practically free" Ray's voice came on. "And bring your little girl by sometime. I can't wait to meet the little princess"
Gia cut it off and the intense glare stayed on her face. Will looked at his ex with a look.
"Are you listening in on my calls? Gia, I thought we put this past us"
"We weren't listening in on yours. Were listening in on Ray's"
"Ray's?"
"PD and the FBI have been investigating for two years and look who waltzes in. Jay's brother. My child's father"
"Why you investigating him?"
"Because he's a gangster"
"Oh come on he pays off a building inspector once and a while"
"Try money laundering, fraud, embezzlement. Now you're involved with him. And you told him about Luna. Are you out of your mind?"
"Ok one, I'm not involved with him. I'm just using his hall for the wedding. It's no big deal. And two, Luna's my daughter just as much as she is yours. I can tell whoever I want about her"
"Yeah? And what if god forbid he does something to her? He does one thing. If Luna so much as scratches her knee. I'm cutting his balls off then yours. So whatever you're doing, just stop. Don't you bring OUR daughter around that man or so help me on everything. Hell will be unleashed"
"Last time I checked, I've been Luna's parent a lot longer than you have. You don't get to tell me who I can and cannot bring her around"
"When it involves her safety, yes the hell I do. I respect your wishes by keeping her away from the district and away from my cases. The least you can do to respect mine. Keep Luna away from him. I'm only asking once, I find out you brought him around her. You will never see Luna again"
"No. No you don't get to do that. I gave you visitation don't you dare pull that I'll never see her again"
"Don't bring her around Burke, don't mention her around him. We won't have a problem. Now go home before something seriously bad gets said that one of us may regret"
"I'm going to see Luna then I'll go"
"Fine"
Will went up to see his daughter, the eleven-year-old was listening at her door when she heard footsteps and went back to her bed. Her door opened and her father stepped inside.
"Hey honey, I just wanted to see you before I go," Will says softly.
"Bye" Her voice is soft.
"What's wrong baby?"
"I heard you and mom fighting"
"It's nothing, just grown up stuff. Nothing for you to worry about"
"Please, I like staying with you and mom. I don't wanna choose"
He went and sat down beside her. "Honey, what your mother and I were arguing about is just adult stuff. We'd never make you pick who you wanna stay with. Don't worry alright. Everything's gonna be fine"
"Promise?"
"I promise"
Will pulled her in for a side hug and kissed her head. "I love you, more than you'll ever know. So does your mother"
"I love you guys too"
"I'm off for the night be good for your mother alright"
"I promise daddy"
"That's my girl"
Will kissed her one last time and left her room and the house. Gia knew this case and their relationship would be affected. Hopefully not by much.
