*Picks up from the previous chapter. This is a small take I thought of*
Luna- 11
What the hell had Will done? He crossed a huge boundary not to mention he cheated on Natalie with the mother of his daughter. He kissed Gia. He hasn't been able to stop thinking about it. Everything about it felt so perfect and so right. Like they belonged.
Luna had wanted to spend the day with her father, she had an off day from school. All the teachers had meetings and Will had a rare day off. He wanted to spend it with Luna. The eleven-year-old had wanted to go shopping for the upcoming father-daughter dance. She wanted to try and have her dress match with her father's suit.
If it was one thing Will had been good at over the years, picking out his daughter's outfits and clothes. At first he couldn't tell you anything about picking out girls' clothes now he could pick out an entire wardrobe of them.
He was on his phone texting Gia his and their daughter's plans, he was also texting Natalie the plans in case she ended up looking for him. Luna came out dressed in a light green dress. It was sleeveless. The top half looked like a kind of top and the lower half was big and puffy. Around the middle looked like a diamond belt going around. The green had complimented her long fiery red hair that fell into long perfect curls.
When the redhead father laid eyes on his baby girl he couldn't believe how much she's grown in just 11 years. It still felt as if yesterday she showed up on his doorstep in a small car seat.
She twirled in the dress. "What do you think daddy?"
"It's perfect sweetheart. Perfect for my princess"
"You really think so?"
"I know so"
"I can't wait to show mom"
Will froze as his daughter talked. He and Gia still hadn't had a full discussion since the two kissed. They hadn't known what it meant as far as their relationship. He was engaged to Natalie. She wasn't seeing anyone. Could it have meant nothing? Could it potentially mean something? Sure they have a child together. But nobody would ever go that far as to kissing their child's other parent if they weren't together. He was so lost in his thoughts he didn't hear his daughter calling him till she felt him tugging his shirt.
"Whatcha tugging on me for you little munchkin?" He pulled her close, tickling her.
Luna giggled. "I surrender"
"Go change and we'll see if your mom wants to get lunch with us"
"Can I show her the dress too?"
"Of course you can"
Will was too much of a sucker at times to tell his daughter no. Once Luna was once again wearing her regular clothes and Will paid for the dress the father and daughter left heading out.
Gia was taking a quick break needing some air, focusing on the case was hard when all she could think about was kissing the father of her daughter. She hadn't been that close or remotely that intimate with Will in years when they kissed it felt as if all that came flooding back.
Her phone buzzed with a text from Will. -Wanna grab lunch with me and Luna?
An outing with her daughter and Will. Like a normal family. Family. They were her family. She and Will weren't together but they cared for each other, they loved each other. They have a beautiful daughter from their love.
Something else had been bugging Gia, earlier that morning she had gotten a job offer to work full time in Washington DC over at the FBI field office out there. She'd have to leave Chicago and start her life all over again in another state, another city. Possibly uproot her daughter from the only home she's most likely ever known away from her family and friends here.
She knew Luna saw most of Will's colleagues as her family, Jay's as well. How could she take her daughter away from all this? She had already made the selfless decision once and gave her child to Will for her job. Could she do it again after building a relationship with her? After a year of bonding and connecting, making up for lost time? All this had weighed on her mind. Jay had gone out to find her when she hadn't come back.
"Everything alright?" Jay asked his niece's mother.
"Yes. No. I don't know. Just so much on my mind" Gia answered.
"Wanna talk about it?"
"You really wanna hear about my problems?"
"Why not? Gia, you and Will may not be married but you're still my family. You're Luna's mother. I was angry at you once but I understood why you had to leave Luna. It was a hard complicated decision but you made damn sure to get Luna out so she wouldn't get hurt. You came back and you're in her life now. You're making up for lost time. Hell you're the sister I never had"
"You're the annoying pain in the ass brother I wish I had"
The male detective chuckled. "So what's bugging you?"
She immediately wanted to tell him about the kiss but she knew if he did it would somehow spread like wildfire and get back to Natalie. She didn't want to be the cause of Will ruining his relationship with Natalie. He deserved to be happy, just as she deserves to be happy.
"This morning I got a job offer. DC, full time field agent for the FBI"
He let out a whistle. "Damn that's a nice offer. What'd you say?"
"Nothing. I told them that I'd think about it and I'll see"
"What do you want to do?"
"I can't uproot my life again Jay. I'm finally settled for once in my life everything feels as if it's normal. I have Luna, I see her often, I have a job, a place of my own. I found my home here in Chicago. I can't leave my daughter again for the same job just somewhere else. I don't want to uproot her whole life and move her across the country and take her from Will"
"I take it you haven't talked to Will about this yet"
"He's been out shopping with Luna for this father daughter dance. I didn't wanna mess up their time together"
"I know you're going to make the right decision Gia and no matter what you pick. You always have my support"
"Thank you Jay. Can you tell Hank I went out for a bit, I wanna go see Will and Luna. I'll be back"
"Not a problem"
Gia left and went to go meet Will. They met at a small family place, Will had gotten his and Luna's food ordered. He was just waiting for Gia to arrive. He didn't know why he was so damn nervous. Luna was playing on her phone when she glanced at her father.
"Dad, is mom coming?" Luna asked.
"I'm sure she's on her way. She and your uncle just got caught up with something" Will told her. He started to drink some of his water.
"Do you love mom?"
That question made him choke on his water. Had his 11-year-old daughter just asked him that question? Luna frowned.
"Are you alright dad?"
He nodded as he was trying to get his breath back and made sure the remainder of the water went down. He wiped his mouth of the water.
"Sweetheart when you asked if I loved your mom. I do love her. I'll always love her. But I'm not in love with her. You can love someone but not be in love with them"
"If you love her, why not marry her and not Natalie?"
"It's not that simple honey"
"Why not?"
"It's a lot more complicated than that and I thought you liked Natalie"
"I just do it's just. A lot of kids at school and their parents are together and with you and mom. You guys aren't. They think I'm weird because you and mom aren't together"
"Hey, forget those kids at school, families come in all forms. Some kids have both parents. Some kids only have a mom, some only have a dad. Some kids have divorced parents. Some kids may have two moms or two dads. There's nothing wrong with the way our family is. Families come in different forms all the time. Your mother and I don't have to be together or married to show you how much we love you. We'll always love you and each other even if were thousands of miles apart"
Luna hugged her father and he kissed her head, Gia had been listening to the last part as she walked in and wiped her eyes of the tears they fell. She went to join them. The father and daughter saw her round the table.
"Welcome" Will smiled.
"Good to see you" Gia returned the smile.
Luna snuck under the table and hugged her mother and Gia hugged her. Will couldn't help but just smile. Seeing two of the most important girls in his life was everything to him. They were his family. When Gia was with Will and their daughter it meant everything to her. This was where she belonged. Not New York. Not DC. But here in Chicago. With her family.
