Luna- 10
After making sure Luna was alright and she was asleep Will had taken Gia someplace private to talk. Jay had tagged along and wanted to hear this. Will brought them to the roof, it was private and not many people would be around.
Once on the roof Gia had stuffed her hands in her pocket letting the cool breeze hit her face and hair, inhaling it deeply and letting out a breath. No longer could she hide this from Will and she knew sooner or later Jay would or could potentially find out. So might as well rip off the band aid now and get it over with.
Turning she faced the two brothers that gave her looks that pretty much said, start talking. After another breath she began.
"I lied to you Will, when I got pregnant with Luna I wasn't straightening my life out, I wasn't involved with drugs, booze, nothing like that. When we met, I was a rookie in the FBI. I had just graduated out of Quantico, I was at the top of my class and graduated early. They were impressed with my skills and undercover work. We met at the college party, I was undercover as a normal college kid trying to find and take down this bastard that was selling laced opiods to the kids in college. A few in your school. My team got intel while he was there so they sent me under to find him only they got it wrong, he wasn't there. He was never there, turns out the bastard died in a shootout during the party he got caught trying to sell his crap on someone else's turf and they took him out. Before I got word about it, I met this young redhead guy and he was the most handsome guy I've ever met. I fell in love" She explained her story.
"I loved you too. I understand trying to keep your cover intact but why did you leave and abandon Luna at my doorstep? Why didn't you tell me the truth?"
"I wanted to so many times but I didn't want to put you or Luna in danger because of me and my job. I didn't want the bastards I hunt to go after you and her to get to me. I went through the pregnancy, my job put me on light desk work until after I had her. When I had her I made it to the hospital just in time and had her, once we were discharged I knew I had to do what was best for her and get her away from my work. Neither of you didn't deserve to get involved in that life, I was doing what I thought was right and protecting the both of you by staying away"
"What happened with Terry?" Jay asked this time.
"We got word that aside from being an obsessive gambler and bookie he was also involved with trafficking. Drugs, weapons, humans. I went under as an obsessive gambler trying to get in on his operations, I made some rather large bets to make it look real. We had enough evidence to arrest him once he was in jail. I came out here because I couldn't stand being away from Luna anymore. I wanted to see my daughter. I went AWOL from my job and came out here. You both know the rest. I never wanted Luna to get involved or hurt. I never intended for that to happen. If you don't want me in her life I'll understand"
The brothers had listened to her, Jay understood where she was coming from. He'd do the same thing to protect his niece. Having a dangerous job like making enemies and having them target the ones close to you was no life for a child.
Will knew she had to make a hard difficult decision all them years ago, she had to make a heartbreaking sacrifice and chose to leave Luna with him. Gia had missed 10 years of her daughter's life, there shouldn't be a reason she should miss anymore.
"I want you to be in Luna's life. For years she's asked about you and I never knew what to tell her. If you're serious about this I'm ok with it" Will told her.
"You're serious? No joke?"
"I don't agree with how you chose to do it but you chose Luna's safety when it came to your job years back. You made a heartbreaking difficult decision to leave her but you protected her for this long and I'm sure you'll still do it"
"Thank you Will. Thank you so much. You won't regret this, I promise"
"I hope not for Luna's sake"
"What are you gonna do regarding your job in New York?" Jay asked.
"Going AWOL didn't help nor answering my boss's calls. Chances are I'm fired, but being with my little girl it's worth it"
"Let me talk with my Sergeant, I think I can get you on my team"
"You'd do that for me? Really?"
"You're family and family looks out for each other. You'd be closer to Luna and be involved in her life. Luna needs her mother. I think we can put all our differences aside for her sake and work things out. She doesn't need to be in the middle of anything, especially a custody fight. She needs her parents united and working together and not against each other"
"Thank you Jay. Thank you so much"
"Until you get a place, stay with me and Luna. I'll help you find a place" Will told her.
"It's fine, I don't wanna impose. I can stay at a hotel until I figure something out"
"No imposition besides I'm sure Luna wants both of us right now"
"I appreciate it. Thank you"
"Speaking of Luna we should get back to her"
The three had gone back to the youngest Halstead. Jay split ways and went to talk to his boss about bringing Gia onto the team. Will and Gia had gone to their daughter's room, Connor looking at her one final time. Luna was still in a state of shock, tears burned in her eyes.
"How is she Connor?" Will asked his friend.
"Physically she's fine, she had some dehydration but we fixed that with some fluids" The trauma doctor replied, looking at the two parents.
"Were there any signs of….other injuries?" Gia asked, wondering if Connor took the hint. She didn't wanna retraumatize her daughter with her question.
"No signs of any type of abuse"
They sighed in relief, Will looked at his friend. "Thanks Connor"
"Not a problem, I'll go get her discharge paperwork started"He patted his friend on the shoulder.
Connor went and started the discharge paperwork, Will and Gia had gone to their daughter. Luna hadn't spoken a word since being brought in the hospital, the redhead father sat beside her pulling her close. The young girl leaned into her father.
"Are you alright sweetheart?" Will asked softly.
She simply nodded into his chest, turning as she looked at her mother. "Thank you for saving me"
The now calm mother smiled at her daughter. "You never have to thank me sweetheart, I'll always be around to protect you now"
Luna moved and went to hug her mother, Gia wrapped her arms around her daughter tightly protectively. Seeing the moment between his daughter and her mother Will smiled, he and Gia may not be together anymore but they would try and make a family with their daughter.
Soon Connor came and gave them Luna's discharge paperwork, the two parents had left with their daughter both kept their guard up. As they were walking out Jay had met them out he smiled seeing his niece, Luna ran to her uncle.
Jay hoisted her up on his hip kissing her head. "How ya doing Lu Lu?"
"I'm good"
"That's good, nobody's ever gonna hurt my Lu Lu ever again"
She chuckled a bit, keeping her arms wrapped securely around his waist, Jay had made sure to hold onto her. The detective then looked at his niece's mother.
"Gia, I talked to my boss and he'd like a meeting with you tomorrow. He said be with Luna for tonight"
She smiled. "Thank you Jay, I appreciate it"
"Let's get this one home"
The small family had gone to Will's place, they stopped for dinner and took it back with them. Once at the apartment they went and ate and made small talk. After dinner Jay left, having to get ready for the next day. Luna was falling asleep at the table.
"Go get ready for bed sweetheart, we'll be right up" Will told her, smoothing her hair back.
The ten-year-old nodded and went to get ready for bed, Will started gathering the dishes they used and Gia helped him.
"You don't have to do that, I've got it" Will tells her.
"It's fine, doing this is the least I could do to help you" She replies.
They emptied the plates. Will began washing them and she was drying them, after cleaning them they had gone to see their daughter fast asleep in her bed, The blanket half off the bed they smiled and went in fixing her blanket.
Each had kissed their daughter's head and left the room, the two stood outside the room smiling. Both just happy that they got their daughter back safe now they can work on being a family.
