Chapter 46-Arizona
I didn't know what to think, after everything that had happened my head is about to explode. My dad seems sad, like talking to Carlos has opened up that old wound. I had mentioned as much to Callie, she said she'd talk to him, but I'm not sure if he'd talk to her, I'm not sure he'd even talk to me. Alex and I are out getting the barn ready, for the wedding. "you think Pop would get back with Carlos?" Alex was on a ladder, painting a beam.
"I don't know" I look up at him "I don't think he even knows"
"I could see the feelings are still there" Alex went on "for both of them"
"you never quite get over your first love" I mutter, thinking about Joann, even though she did horrible shit to me I still loved her, and I guess a part of me always will. But I have Callie now, I smile thinking about my fiancée. "I hear you there" he says, "there, what do you think?" he asks coming down from the ladder. I look up, honestly I couldn't see anything different, this was and always will be our old dusty barn, where my grandpa had milked the cows, and the stray cats ran in and out. I saw some movement out of the corner of my eye, and one popped out from a hole in the wall. When I was little I used to name them all, but I stopped when Simba, an orange one I had named, got sat on by a cow. It wasn't long after that, grandpa got sick, and dad sold the cows. Shaking my head I look at Alex, who was smiling at me. "what?"
"you're getting married"
"I am" I said
"it's I do" he laughs, rolling my eyes I look around. We had done a lot in the last few days, the flooring we ordered for the dance floor would be in tomorrow, someone would have to go to town to pick it up. "why don't you and Callie go into town tomorrow and get the flooring, we can install it the following day" a day alone with Callie sounded amazing, I smile "good idea"
"maybe you can finally take her on that date" he laughs
"maybe you should take Aria"
"I have" he says "we had an amazing date down by the creek" his smile grows and I can see his face starting to get red.
"dude, did you finally do it?"
"I don't know what you're talking about" he says turning his head
"Alex" I laugh, he turns to face me, and I have to bite my tongue as to not laugh at the tone of voice that came out of him at what he said next "oh my god Zo, it was amazing" he stops and laughs "that sounded so girly"
"like the old Alex" I say
"shut up" he throws the towel he had at me "come on, we gotta let the paint dry before we can do anymore in here" I nod and follow him out of the barn. Once outside I turn to look at it, Aria and Lucia are going to decorate the outside, they explained it to me, but honestly I don't care. All I care about is that I'll be marrying the love of my life. Jack and Rose run up to me, of course Pen isn't far behind them, she's never far behind. "hi guys" I say, bending down to scratch their ears, Rose lays down and shows me her belly, so I scratch that. Pen, who is still growing, is still a wild thing, although getting better at the jumping, dad and Callie have been training her. Hearing a car come down the driveway I make my way around the kennel and see Mrs. Webber. "I didn't know Sheldon was here" Alex says, as we watch Sheldon jump out of the car and beelines for us. "oh she's dropping him off" he laughs as Sheldon licks his legs, and almost knocks him over.
"Sheldon" Mrs. Webber calls after him "I'm sorry guys, he's been couped up in the house for a while" Alex and I both smile and make our way closer.
"it's alright" Alex says "come on boy, let's get you checked in"
"are you nervous?" she asks once Alex is inside
"no" I shake my head looking at her "not at all" I smile
"I remember the day Richard and I got married" she smiles "seems like yesterday"
"I bet it was a great wedding" I say and she laughs "hell no" I wait for her to go on "everything that could go wrong went wrong"
"um" I say, and she starts laughing "don't worry honey, everything will be perfect, besides all that really matters is you love Callie and Callie loves you, just remember that and it'll be the perfect day" I nod and smile. Alex comes out "he's all checked in Mrs. Webber"
"how many times do I have to tell you, call me Adele" she says "you young people" she shakes her head.
"sorry, Pop drilled it into our heads to be polite" he says
"and good for him" she smiles "Richard and I are off to Seattle, his niece is getting an award for something" she shrugs then as if to prove some point "she's a doctor"
"have a good trip" I smile
"we will thank you" she smiles and gets into her car.
"she's sure a nice old lady" Alex says as we watch her car disappear. I shake my head and head into the house. The bathroom was calling.
