Chapter 47- Callie
Arizona and I had an amazing night, we went for a long walk around the property alone, well not entirely alone, Jack, Rose and Pen joined us. As hard as we tried to keep Pen out of the creek, she went in anyway, which prompted us to give her a bath when we got back. Her white coat was almost black from the mud. I am lying in bed, Arizona had gotten up to use the bathroom, and once she's up, she's up for the day. She's now downstairs, probably making breakfast, I let out a deep contented sigh and look around the room. Remembering that very first night here, the night when Arizona saved me from the tornado. Then my mind goes to what my dad had said, and I sigh, I understand now why he acted the way he did once he found out about Arizona, but at the same time. If he already knew the family, why wouldn't he be happy for me, happy that I found an amazing woman to love me. My thoughts shift, what if him and Daniel ended up getting back together, would it work for them? Wouldn't that make Arizona my stepsister? How would my mom feel? All these thoughts are spinning around my head, as I hear the door creak open, I turn my head and see my gorgeous fiancée "oh I thought you were still asleep"
"no" I shake my head and move in the bed, pulling the sheet up to cover my chest. "I've been awake since you left"
"I'm sorry I woke you" she leans in for a kiss
"you didn't" I smile and pull her in, deepening the kiss, when she pulls back "I brought you some coffee"
"thank you" she moves around the room then hands me my favorite cup "there's something I need to talk to you about"
"oh?" she says sitting down, I nod and take a sip "one thing my dad did ask, was that my mom and I return to work"
"you want to go back to work?" I shrug, I don't know what I want. "for him?" she asks
"well" I shrug again "I'm not sure, I mean, I loved my job, and I was good at it"
"I understand" she says and then goes quiet
"what do you think?" I ask
"well" she says meeting my eyes "I think you should do what is best for you, if you want to go back to work, then go, if not then don't"
"it's that simple?" I ask, I see her nod "Calliope, you don't need to work, you do enough around here to pull your weight" I nod "so yes, it is that simple, that and we don't need the money"
"I know" I smile, we're quiet a few minutes then she says "dad said they called, the flooring is in, we can go anytime you're ready" I look at the clock, it was just after 7 "ok" I smile
"I'm gonna go clean the kennels" she says kissing me "your mom is making breakfast, I suggest you get down there and eat, before Alex eats it all, it smells amazing"
"did you eat?"
"not yet" she shakes her head, I smile and set my coffee cup on the bedside table, and stand. As the sheet fell off of me, I could feel her staring at me "take a picture it lasts longer"
"I have plenty" she says and I turn to look at her as I slip my panties on "in here" she points to her head, rolling my eyes, I continue getting dressed. As we made our way downstairs, the smell of breakfast was amazing, and my stomach growled as I walked into the kitchen, Daniel was already out in the kennel, but Alex sat at the table, his plate full. "so good" he says with his mouthful of food. Arizona gives me a kiss then leaves. I take my place at the table and mom sets a plate in front of me. She always made the most amazing breakfast; I smiled and start eating. Alex was right, it's so good. I laugh to myself and finish my plate. Then I decided to help mom clean up, doing the dishes. "you and Arizona are going into town, yes?"
"we are"
"do you think you could drop off those papers at my lawyers office?"
"I'm sure we can do that" I smile, drying my hands.
"great" she smiles "I'll leave them on the table" I nod and leave the room. Making my way upstairs for some clean clothes, after Pen's bath, and the other activities last night I was in need of a shower. Standing in the shower, the water cascading down my body, I couldn't stop my thoughts from going to Arizona. She is everything I have ever wanted in a lover, she's my confidant, my best friend, my soft place to fall. I was so lost in my thoughts I didn't realize I was done, smiling at myself in the mirror, Arizona and Alex always gave me shit for taking such long showers, but not today. Today Arizona and I are headed into town, on a date, yeah, we have to pick up the flooring for the barn, but it'll be the first time her and I get to leave without anyone. To my surprise, when I made my way outside to see if she was ready she had already pulled the truck up, and was ready to go. "hello beautiful" her smile melted my heart. "you ready?" I nod, and go to the passenger side, she opens the door for me and I place a quick kiss on her lips as I climb in. She shuts the door and goes around climbing into the driver's side. "hope it's ok that we're taking this" she says starting the engine.
"I figured since we are picking up the flooring, you know more room" she turns, smiles and winks at me, before putting the monster truck in gear and pulling out. "I thought we'd pick up the flooring and then head to Joe's for some lunch" I glance at the clock, seeing it was after 10, ok maybe it did take me longer than I thought in the shower. I nod, leaning over in kissing her cheek, then reach for her hand as we drive.
"what you got there?" Arizona asks seeing the envelope sitting on my lap
"mom asked if we could drop these" I hold up the envelope "off at the lawyers office"
"oh" she nod "of course" she reaches over taking my hand as we drive in silence, contented silence. I've never had that feeling with anyone, I've never felt comfortable when silence took over, but with Arizona, she makes everything better. I let out a contented sigh "you ok?"
"huh?" I turn to look at her
"you want the music on or something?"
"no" I shake my head, she glances at me, then back at the road "I'm just enjoying the moment, it's not often we get time alone"
"that's not inside our bedroom" she winks
"yeah" I laugh, bringing her hand to my mouth I kiss the back of it "I love you" I can see the smile form and her dimples pop as she says "I love you too"
