Hello everybody, I'm back with more exiting reading material, I am getting really close to finishing this book, and I am glad I can share my writing with you, please enjoy the next chapter in Adventures of the PAW Patrol.
Chapter 19: Only Three Left
The next morning Chase woke up before Skye. He looked down and found her head peacefully resting in his paws. Chase smiled and stroked her fur gently. Eventually Skye began to stir, her eyes slowly opened up looking directly into Chase's eyes.
"Good morning sleeping beauty," Chase joked.
"You to prince Charming," Skye joked back.
Skye got up and stretched her legs. Chase still couldn't get over how pretty she looked.
"You are beautiful, you know that right," Chase said.
Skye blushed. "Oh, what this matted mess, nah," Skye said, referring to her messy looking fur.
"Hold still for a minute," Chase said.
Chase grabbed a comb from a drawer. He licked his paw and patted Skye's fur to get it wet. He then began to comb the matt's out of her fur. Skye sat in a trance as Chase worked on her fur. Chase finished by giving her, her signature curl.
"There that looks better," Chase said.
"Yes but now you fur looks messy compared to mine, my turn." Skye said.
Skye licked her paw and wet Chase's fur. She then combed it to perfection, when she was done Chase looked like he was going to some royal party.
"Their, now we both look like we could go to a wedding or something," Skye said.
For a few awkward moments the two blushed and looked away from each other.
"Well, uh, ahem, should we uh, go get some breakfast," Skye said with a nerves chuckle.
"Yeah, this is awkward," Chase said.
The two walked out of Chase's pup house.
"Aw, you two are so cute together," Rocky said.
"Rocky, stop," Chase said, hiding his face.
"Rocky's right, you are cute together, did you do each other's fur," Liberty asked with a smile.
"Aw, lib, come on stop," Skye said with a blush.
The pups all laugh and start towards the lookout for breakfast. Marshal walks up to Chase and whispers in his ear.
"Dude, you haven't asked her out yet have you," Marshal said.
"I, I'm working up to it," Chase said.
"Oh come on, stop be a wuss and just ask the girl out," Marshal said.
"I, I can't Marshal, I need to stay focused on finding our friends and protecting the town," Chase said, rubbing the back of his head.
"Alright but I won't stop pestering you until you ask her," Marshal said.
Chase sighed and sat down to eat. After breakfast, Chase went up to his police lab. He got on his computer and opened up his email account. He looked around at all the people he had contacts to until he found the one he was looking for. He began to type, Hello, it's Chase, I need to talk with you about something very important, please get back with me as soon as you can, Chase shepherd.
Suddenly Chase's pup tag lit up.
"Chase and Rocky, I need you two in the garage for a mission, met me down there when you can," Ryder said.
Chase sighed and took the elevator down to the garage. When he got there, he met Ryder and Rocky; he also noticed a shiny new van.
"What is this Ryder," Chase asked.
"It's a radar van for Hacker; he's going to be the newest member of the PAW Patrol. I want you two to do you regular vehicle inspection, I know it's brand new, but I don't want any accidents." Ryder said.
"Yes sir," Responded the pups in unison.
The two started their work immediately.
"I can't believe Ryder is going to make Hacker an official member of the PAW Patrol," Chase said.
"I know, Hackers a good pup, it will be fun having a new member." Rocky said.
The two quickly finished up the inspection and Ryder called the pups up, Hacker included.
"Our Mission today, is to continue the search for our friends, but first I want hacker to come up please." Ryder said.
Hacker's ears perked up and he walked to the front of the room.
"Hacker, things have gotten pretty rough for us the last few days, and we need you now more than ever, I want to ask you, if you would join our team," Ryder said, pulling out a brand new pup tag.
Hackers eyes widened, and a smile formed on his face. "Yes sir," Hacker said with enthusiasm.
"Then Repeat after me, I, Hacker promise to help others in need, I promise to put others before myself and help them no matter the cost, I promise to always finish the mission. I promise to be brave, strong, and loyal to the PAW Patrol code." Ryder said.
"I, Hacker promise to help others in need. I promise to put them before myself and help them no matter the cost. I promise to always finish the mission. And I promise to be brave, strong, and loyal to the PAW Patrol code." Hacker said holding his right paw in the air.
"Hacker, do you promise to abide by this pledge and follow our code always." Ryder said.
"I do Ryder sir," Hacker said.
"Then upon your recitation of the PAW Patrollers Pledge, I now declare you an official member of the PAW Patrol." Ryder said hanging the pup tag around Hackers neck.
Hacker yelped in excitement. The other pups all surrounded him and congratulated him on making the team. Hacker had the biggest smile on his face.
"And if you slide down the slide, there's a surprise for you," Ryder said.
Hacker barked with excitement and jumped down the slide. He landed in his new pup house, which transformed into his new radar van.
"No way, a radar van, for me," Hacker said.
"Yup, complete with a radar dish and a super computer setup in the back." Ryder said.
"Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, oh what's my first mission," Hacker asked excitedly.
"Hehe, your first mission is to find the gangs hidden base, it is somewhere down in the sewers, you radar can scan underground to find it." Ryder said.
"Yes sir, but I'm going to need someone to drive the van along the streets while I perform the radar scan." Hacker said.
"I'll do it Hack, let's go find our friends." Chase said.
Chase and Hacker set out to find the gang's secret base. Chase sat in the drivers sit, while Hacker sat at a computer screen in the back.
"You know what's funny, one day you don't trust me and you were escorting me out of prison. And now you driving my own van for me," Hacker joked.
"Hay, it's for a mission, and besides, you weren't a criminal you were a victim." Chase said.
"Okay, radar scan is a go; I need you to drive slowly so I can visualize the sewers bellow." Hacker said.
Chase turned on the warning lights and reduced his speed to 5mph. The two drove along the streets of Adventure bay for hours, until something strange popped up on the radar map.
"Wait, wait, stop back up a little bit and uh pull into the ally and park, I found something." Hacker said.
Chase did as he was told and then went back to see what they had found.
"What does that look like to you," Hacker asked, pointing to a strange open space in the radar.
"Well that looks like a hidden room in the side of the sewers, that's odd, there aren't suppose to be rooms in the sewer wall, could you make the picture clearer," Chase asked.
"I'd have to increase the X-ray radiation, which can be dangerous at high levels but I can until we get a good picture." Hacker said.
Hacker slide his chair over to the X-ray controls and began to increase the amount of radiation.
"You just tell me when the picture is clear enough." Hacker said.
"Okay, it's getting better, more, oh almost, just a little more" Chase said.
"Are you sure, more radiation would be harmful to people outside the van," Hacker said.
"Well then we need to keep people back," Chase said.
Chase ran outside and used his traffic cones to block off the sidewalk. Chase went back to the computer screen and Hacker increased the radiation.
"Just a tad more," Chase said.
"Really, more could overload the machine and possibly cause a fire, or worse and explosion." Hacker said.
"Yes, just a little more for a few minutes while I record what I see," Chase said.
Hacker reluctantly turned up the radiation to its max. Chase was able to see the room clearly and he began to write down everything his saw. Suddenly sparks started jumping from the control panel.
"Ah, Chase, it's overloading, I have to shut it down," Hacker said.
"Just a few more seconds," Chase said.
More sparks jumped at hacker and now the electrical hum could of an overloaded machine could be heard.
"CHASE," Hacker yelled.
"Almost, done, shut it down now," Chase barked.
Hacker slammed the emergency shut off button and the machine slowly shut off. Hacker sat back in his chair and let out a sigh of relief.
"How do you like you first mission so far Hack," Chase asked.
"Whew, stressful, are the always like this," Hacker asked.
"No, not usually," Chase said.
"Well enough chit chat, what have we got on the base," Hacker asked.
"Well it looks like your typical criminal base, a table with plans, a weapons rack, and a cage for hostages. I'm going to have to sneak into the base to find out what the papers on the table say, but the entrance is guarded by security cameras and a security gate." Chase said.
"I can get you in, just cut the power to the security cams by finding the electrical cord in the sewers and then plug this jump drive into the door control panel and I can hack it from here." Hacker said.
"Great, I'll call in some extra help, Ryder we found the base, please send Liberty and Rocky over to our location," Chase said over his pup tag.
"Copy that Chase, they're on their way." Ryder said.
When Rocky and liberty arrived Chase gave his orders.
"Liberty I want you here with Hacker and help him with anything he needs, Rocky you're with me, clear," Chase said with authority.
The pups barked in agreement, and Chase and Rocky set out to search the hidden base. The two found the nearest sewer lid, about 3 blocks down. Chase and Rocky navigated the tunnels until they got to the base. Rocky used a nearby breaker box to cut the power to the security cams. Chase quickly inserted the jump drive in the door controls.
"Alright Hacker, open up the door will you," Chase said over his pup tag
"Give me one second, let's see, no, diffidently not, ah yes there you are, now I can," Hacker started but was cut short by the click of a gun.
"Ah you are a clever pug to think you could hack into our base." Spot said.
Hacker put his paws in the air and slowly turned around to find the barrel of Spots 0.44 caliber canine handgun staring him in the face. Ruben stood behind him holding a squirming Liberty.
"Lucky for us we were headed back to our base when we spotted you van." Spot said.
"Hacker let us in, Hacker, talk to me bud, is everything okay," Chase said over the radio link.
"Are you seriously helping those mutts break in to our base, I thought you were better than that Hacker," Spot said with a look of disappointment.
"I'm better then a thief and pup-napper like you," Hacker growled.
"You know, we could use a pup like you on our team, you would be rich as well as honored, what do you say," Spot said.
"Use me, to steal money off the internet, never," Hacker said.
"Okay pug, I'm going to give you two options, 1 you join our gang and use your talents for good, or 2 you let those mutts into our base and we sell you to the boss as well," Spot said.
"Don't listen to them Hacker, you a good pup, don't listen," Liberty screamed.
"Well, looks like I'm going to a dark prison cell either way, so I might as well do it for a good cause," Hacker yelled.
Hacker slammed the open button, letting Chase and Rocky into the gang's base. And then he ripped the cables out of the computer and stabbed the screen with his knife blade to prevent the gang from trapping Chase and Rocky.
"Well that's annoying, for multiple reasons, I really thought you were smarter than that hack," Spot said with an annoyed look.
"I am better, better then a criminal, I'm a PAW Patroller," Hacker said flashing his new pup tag.
"Ugh, round him up, and get rid of that ugly tag," Spot said with disgust.
Butch fought Hacker and ripped his tag off as well as putting a burlap sack over his head. Spot took hacker and liberty off to foggy bottoms. Meanwhile Chase and Rocky were sneaking around in the base bellow.
"Let's make this as quick as we can, we don't know how long they'll be gone," Rocky suggested.
"Okay, try to find any evidence on where our friends are at," Chase said.
Chase made his way over to the plan table. He used his light to read the papers. One of them was a report of some kind, it read Target acquired, Breed: Siberian husky/wolf mix, gender: Female, last known location: Jakes mountain, Target status: Captured and sold.
"Hay Rocky, look at this, it looks like a missing pup file that I would have back at my police lab, except the complete opposite, it's a target file.
"Yeah, looks like Everest, judging by the information and her picture on the top," Rocky said.
Chase picked up another paper that read, Target acquired, Breed: Cockapoo, gender: Female, Last known location: PAW Patrol lookout tower, Target status: Unknown. Chase gasped, Skye, his Skye was a target.
"Oh no, Skye, she's on the target list," Chase said.
"I think we all are," Rocky said pointing to 4 more reports with Chase, Rocky, Marshal, and Liberty.
Chase took yet another paper that read, Possible arson attacks, city hall, pet parlor, Mr. porters café: failed, Farmer Yumi's barn: Success, PAW Patrol lookout tower. Chase and Rocky's eyes widened at this revelation.
"Nowhere is safe Rock, threat is more serious than I thought," Chase said. Chase whipped out his evidence camera and began to take pictures of all the papers. Chase then stumbled upon the old rusty cage in the corner. He sniffed around the base of the cage. Chase smiled at the scents he picked up.
"They were here, I smell, Everest, Rubble, and, huh, what, it can't be, it's not possible," Chase said in disbelief.
"What is it," Rocky asked.
Chase picked something up of the floor of the cage.
"He's alive, he's alive, Rocky Zuma's alive," Chase said with joy.
"What, no that's impossible, he died in the fire," Rocky said.
"The nose never lie's Rock, and look what I found brown fur, not only that, this file say's that he was captured and sold, he's alive, I just know it," Chase said.
"Oh Hallelujah, praise God," Rocky cried with joy.
Chase and Rocky laughed and yelped with Joy that their friend was alive. But soon Chase's smile faded and he grew a stern, serious face.
"We have to destroy their plans," Chase said.
Chase took a lighter out of his pack.
"Wait no, stop don't," Rocky said.
"Rocky, we have to destroy their plans, it will mess them up," Chase said.
"If you light that lighter, the methane in the sewer system will ignite and then it's doomsday for the whole town," Rocky warned.
"Then how are we to destroy their plans," Chase said.
"We tear them up; if there's anything a dog is good at its destroying important papers." Rocky said with a grin.
Chase and Rocky grew mischievous grins on their faces. Then like wild dogs of the past Chase and rocky began to shred every piece of paper in sight. Chase took out a jump drive and copied everything off of spot's laptop and then he smashed the computer on the ground. Chase also destroyed the printer in the corner to stop them from printing any plans. Rocky and Chase let out a howl of victory, and then the laughed at how fun that was.
"Oh, that was fun, but, oh we should get out of here before we are caught." Chase said.
Chase and Rocky raced back towards Hackers radar van. Chase was so excited that he didn't notice a dark figure clamp their hands over Rocky's mouth. Chase reached Hackers van with great excitement.
"Hacker, Liberty we did it oh it was great you should have, uh Hacker, Liberty, Hacker liberty," Chase said.
Chase looked around and was confused. Hacker and Liberty were gone and Hackers brand new computer was smashed on the ground and multiple cables were cut and/or ripped apart. Chase noticed something on the ground. He reached down and picked it up. Chase shivered at what he saw, it was hackers knife splattered with blood. Chase dropped the knife and looked around some more. He found multiple blood stains doting the back of the van.
"Oh no, Rocky we have a problem, Rocky, Rocky, uh where did he go, did he go back to the lookout. Ryder is rocky at the lookout with you," Chase asked.
"No I thought he was with you," Ryder said.
"Gah, Paw-fect, Just Paw-fect, Hacker, liberty, and Rocky, missing," Chase said with frustration.
Chase drove Hackers van back to the lookout. The 3 remaining pups and Ryder met outside.
"Chase, what do we do," Marshal asked.
"I, I don't know," Chase said sadly.
"But, you always know what to do," Skye said.
"AH, I DON'T KNOW," Chase yelled, startling all the pups.
"I just don't know, gah, sweet mother of a caviler King Charles spaniel, ah, I'm the police pup, I'm suppose to find out what happened to our friends, I'm suppose to protect Adventure bay. I'm carrying all of the towns burdens, and I, I just can't anymore, I'm not strong enough," Chase said, falling down on his belly.
Chase whines and begins to cry softly. Skye walked over and sat down next to him. She gave Ryder and Marshal the "Please give us some alone time," Eyes. Marshal and Ryder understood and both went to bed. Skye stroked Chase's fur gently, her gentle strokes calmed Chase.
"Chase, I'm sorry I put too much on your back," Skye said.
"What, no Skye, you haven't put any pressure on me," Chase said.
"But I have, I expected you to have the answers, I expected you to know what to do, and I expected you to always be by my side," Skye said.
"Oh Skye, that isn't a burden to me, I love spending time with you," Chase said.
"I know what we both need, a break from trouble, how about we both go out to eat breakfast at Mr. Porters tomorrow morning," Skye said.
"Wait, are you asking me out on a date," Chase asked.
"Well, I wouldn't call it that, more like an escape from stress," Skye said.
"Yeah, that sounds better, so tomorrow morning" Chase said.
"Yup, tomorrow morning, good night Chase," Skye said.
"Yeah, good night Skye," Chase said.
Chase walked to his pup house with the largest grin on his face. Chase was so happy that he didn't notice the evil scowl in the darkness.
"Fine, you ruin our plans, I'll ruin you date little pups, this is the last match paw patrol," Spot growled.
