"First trail ride," Sero dropped a small bag on the table and poured water into his glass.
Izuku grinned as Kacchan set down his plate of leftovers. "What's with the gift?"
"That's from all of us," Kiri opened the remaining boxes of food. "It's a rite of passage for any newbie that comes in without experience."
"Don't go thinking that's from me," Shin teased.
Sitting down he opened the bag and pulled out a red and silver beaded band, he wrinkled his brow. "Uh, thanks? Is it a necklace? I think?" They all burst out laughing. Frowning he put the band back in the bag and ate a bite of his taco.
"Wait!" Shin pulled it out as Sero took his new hat off the peg.
"It's a hat band Kacchan," Izuku smiled between bites. He was enjoying the easy banter of the group, a sense of unease still hung in the air, but no one was breaking the bubble, for now. They all needed a break from the boiling emotions of earlier.
"Ohhh," he mumbled as Shin fastened the decorative trim around his hat and held it up for him to see. "Damn," his eyes widened in approval, "that does look nice."
Placing it on his head, Shin pulled it gently forward onto his forehead and stepped back to appraise him. "Wow," he put his hands on his hips, tipping his head both ways.
"Yeah?" Kacchan smiled cockily.
"Nothing helping, you're still as ugly as ever," laughing Shin sat down and started munching on his cheesy tortillas.
"Shin!" Izuku scolded him playfully.
"It looks good," Sero nodded. "I like the silver and red against the black."
Turning to face him, Kacchan lifted his brows in question. "Do I look okay?"
Like earlier, Izuku couldn't get over the transformation. If there was someone built for a cowboy hat it was this man. He was glad he'd chosen black, the contrast to his blonde hair and red eyes was perfect but now with the small bit of color, Izuku' mouth went dry. The red in his eyes flashed the same color as the stones. "Yeah, okay," he mumbled, hiding his loss for words by taking a bite of his food.
"Just, okay?" Kacchan pretended to frown as he pulled the hat lower. "I was hoping I was starting to look more like a cowboy." He winked knowingly at him.
"Gonna take more than a fucking hat!" Shin barked out loudly.
Izuku chewed his food slowly, studying him. Those hooded eyes blazed from just under the dark rim giving him a dangerously sultry aura. He swallowed hard, Kacchan was all cowboy, exactlythe way he liked. A sweet feeling of excitement pulsed through him.
Smiling at his open stare, Kacchan pulled his hat off. "I guess no answer means yes," he drawled and hung his hat back on the peg.
"You keep practicing riding and you'll be ready for Ridge valley by next summer easily," Kiri sipped on his beer thoughtfully. "Might be our last chance to ride it as a group."
His words broke the bubble.
"Kiri," Shin whined softly.
He shrugged. "It's gonna be here one way or another, ignoring it only gives us less time to think of a solution or plan for getting the hell out of here."
"What if we bought a different ranch? We could just move there."
"There's not much for sale around here Shin," Kiri sighed. "I've got a good nest egg saved, and I've been looking. The local families pretty much own anything usable and tend to keep this area to themselves. Even if Inko's geo report is right, it could take years to reach the more arid lands."
"By the way," Katsuki cut in. "I wanted to ask if there were any cows I could buy and send out to that valley?"
Izuku looked up slowly, "you wanna buy a steer?"
"Is that a cow?" Kacchan scrunched up his face.
"Yeah, it's a boy cow." Shin snickered.
"Oh, okay. Yeah." He nodded, "I was thinking that I could send one to that teacher that helped me get my certification. He really went out on a limb for me trying to get me jobs and everything. I know he'd be blown away by that steak."
"How do you know about our private stash?" Shin narrowed his eyes at him. "Are you already stealing our food?"
"Shin," Sero smacked his shoulder, "he defrosted it by accident the night you two went out to Snipe's place for the herd."
"Oh," Shin's face bloomed a fierce red as he glanced over at Kiri. Picking up his quesadilla he took a huge bite.
"How much would it cost?"
Izuku paused. "Well, if you just want one, I guess you could buy from us, but you could also get one from anyone in the valley."
"Why not yours? I'll pay a fair price."
"Aaaah… um," Izuku stammered uncomfortably, and Shin giggled. "If you're serious about this Kacchan, the smaller ranches have more generic breeds that go for about three or four thousand a head. We only have a specialty breed that sells for as much as eight to ten."
"Oh shit," he coughed, grabbing his water. "That's a little more than I have," his ears burned a bright red.
Izuku bit his lip. He had a sudden desire to tease him. "I'm sure we could give you some kind of discount."
"Yeah?" A blonde brow arched upward as he peered over the water glass, his adam's apple jerking smoothly as he drank. Those hooded eyes blazing a hole right through him as a small trickle of water gathered at the corner of his full lip, which curled upwards.
He was doing it on purpose. Another jolt of desire ripped through Izuku.
"Or," Shin laughed. "If you stop buying those porn magazines you might save enough."
That burning gaze snapped in Shin's direction as he set down his glass. "Porn? You mean my car magazines?" His eyes narrowed menacingly, "are you the one that came through my fucking window?" Shin dipped his head laughing.
"Shin," Izuku scolded, "how many times do I have to tell you to stay out of other cabins." Sighing, he peeked back at Kacchan. "Just ignore him."
"I already fucking do," he growled and poured salsa over his taco. "Back to the cow."
"Steer," Shin corrected him, laughing harder.
Clenching his jaw tight, Kacchan nodded. "Right… steer. I guess if I buy one I'd still need to graze it for two more years? And that won't work, especially if you have to vacate the ranch."
"Well, I don't think you need a whole steer, that's over 200 kilos of meat or five hundred pounds." Izuku smiled at the look of shock on his face. He definitely had a lot to learn. "Why not just buy some of what we have now?"
"Boss!" Shin pursed his lips.
"Giving away our only source of good food Iz?" Sero chuckled.
Izuku flipped them both off and smiled sweetly at Kacchan. "I could probably sell you a dozen steaks, does that work?"
"I appreciate that and… we can settle on a price later." He winked. Izuku could feel the heat climbing into his cheeks, the man was a damn mind reader.
"Well, one very minor problem has been solved," Shin groused. "By the way, I'm going to look into those races this week, I still think Float could make some good cash."
"Okay, but don't mess up my baby," Izuku warned. "She was magnificent on the trail today. A bit shy at first but settled right in with Bombshell. She's gonna be a great cow pony."
"I promise, nothing that'll mess her up," Shin bounced excitedly. "I'll even front the purse money."
"You don't have to do that."
"I want to Iz, my contribution."
Exhaling loudly, he dipped the corner of his taco into the salsa. He knew if he didn't give in, Shin would bug him until he did. "Okay."
"Also now that the quad is up and running," Sero interrupted. "Katsuki and I will take over the local pastures. Kiri, I want you and Shin to head straight to the aquifer in the mornings. That'll shave some time off and we can start winterizing."
"Winterizing?" Kacchan glanced between them.
Smacking him on the back, Shin chuckled, "we gotta batten down the hatches. Once the snow blows in, you won't need those ice packs for your balls anymore. You can just stand outside."
"What he means," Sero added, "is checking roofs, putting heaters into the water troughs, making sure nothing is blocking the creeks, plus checking food stock, bale the grass hay and review storage. In fact," getting up, he walked across the kitchen reaching for the cookie jar. "I was thinking we could expand one end of the calving barn for food storage instead of building another barn, which would save us some money." Sitting down, he pulled out a cookie and took a bite, groaning as he chewed.
"What is that?" Shin shoved his hand into the jar coming out with a cookie. He spun around and looked at Kacchan. "Did you make this?" He just nodded and ate his taco. "Damn, it sure is hard to make fun of you." Biting into the cookie he smiled. "Oh shit, this is good."
"It's a snicker poodle," Sero took another bite, moaning appreciatively.
Looking at the cookie, Shin wrinkled his brow. "A snicker poodle? Really?"
Kacchan choked on his taco. "Doodle," He coughed on his food, laughing so hard he was struggling to breathe. "Snickerdoodle."
Sero shrugged, "doodle, poodle, whatever. It tastes really good."
Kiri pushed his plate away and sipped on his beer, he wasn't paying attention to them. Izuku could tell his mind was elsewhere and most likely wasn't something he wanted to deal with right now. Kiri liked to tackle problems head on, grabbing the proverbial bull by the horns and not letting go until it killed him, or he took it down. "You think of any other ideas for money?" Shin quieted hearing his question.
There it was. Izuku blew out a long breath. "Yeah, I've been thinking and I did come up with one thing. I'm gonna talk to the bank tomorrow. Nezu is the only one with the kind of money it would take to pay off that note."
"Isn't Shouto the loan manager?" Sero tipped his head, "why wouldhegive you a loan. He's the one that benefits if you don't marry him."
"Well… he can't discriminate against me. I'm pretty sure he'd have to present my loan request either way." Izuku frowned slightly, "plus what if Kacchan is right?"
"Me? When did I ever suggest going to fuck face to get a loan?"
"You said that he could be a victim too, maybe he didn't really want to marry me? What if he's trapped in something as well?"
"I doubt that," Shin nibbled his cookie, "I think he's the culprit behind everything. Don't do it Iz, can't you go to a different bank?"
"Nezu's bank specializes in our valley. It's not easy to find someone willing to finance our properties."
"If you think that's a way to get money, then it's worth it, but you're not going alone." Shin glanced around the table. "One of us should go with you."
"I don't know," Izuku frowned. "Shouto doesn't really like any of you."
"That's okay, we don't like him either," Kiri quipped back and grabbed a cookie for himself.
"I could just go and hang out in the back of the bank." Kacchan growled, "I don't want that jackass within ten feet of you alone."
"O-Okay," Izuku chewed his lip nervously. Suddenly the thought of seeing Shouto didn't seem like such a good idea. "How about we all go tomorrow? We need supplies and we could get everything done at once."
"Sounds like a plan boss," Sero glanced at Kiri, who looked worried. Izuku pinched the bridge of his nose and silently agreed with them both, tomorrow was going to be trouble.
Sitting in Sero's truck, which was parked on the main drag in front of the large brick building, the five men stared at the bank.
"I feel like this isn't the best place to park," Kiri shifted uncomfortably looking out the tinted windows. "Why not the main parking lot?"
"What do you mean?" Sero looked at him in his rearview mirror. "We can sit here while Iz goes in, then run our errands afterward. "This is a prime parking spot."
"You do realize that you've got four ex-cons sitting in a truck outside a bank, like we're casing the joint?" Shin broke out in a giggle next to him.
"Geez Kiri, the whole town knows us, shit Hound Dog came to my birthday party."
"He came to your party idiot because that was your parole check-in date!" Kiri slapped the back of his head. "It was a coincidence."
"Still," Sero smoothed down his hair, "he stuck around and hung out with us. He's always been friendly."
Kiri crossed his arms, "I don't like it. We should run errandswhilehe meets with Shouto. Then if he needs help, we're close by."
"Iz?" Sero glanced over at him.
Unable to tear his gaze away from the front doors, Izuku tried to drum up the courage for what heneededto do because what hewantedto do was run back home. "I'm fine," he lied.
"Actually," Kacchan hung his arms over the seat and tapped him gently. "I need to open a checking account. Think they could help me with that?"
"No!" Shin yelled. "I finally figured out where you're stashing your cash!"
Turning, Kacchan frowned at him. "I thought I said to stay the fuck out of my cabin you nosy shit."
"Shin," Izuku admonished him quietly, which seemed to help.
"Sorry," he sat back and sulked.
"Yeah, they can open an account for you Kacchan." Izuku worried about him coming into the bank though. While it'd be nice to have him there, it might make things worse with Shouto.
Kacchan bumped him on the shoulder. "How about I go in after you, give you time to get your meeting started with him."
Izuku smiled, maybe he could read his mind. "Okay," he breathed out slowly. Opening the door, he jumped down and threw his bag over his shoulder. Pushing his hat squarely on his head, he gave them a quick nod. "I'll see you in a bit." Walking up to the building, he opened the double doors and headed inside the bank.
"He's crazy, no way Shouto's giving him a nickel," Shin muttered.
"Let him try, if he loses his ranch without trying," Sero tapped his steering wheel and sighed. "Imagine how stupid he'd feel."
"'Suppose," opening the door, Shins tugged Kiri out with him. "We're going to check on the races. Gran's always at the diner, he'll know how to enter and if Float has a chance."
Sero watched them from his side mirror. "Boy, that mare must be fast for Shin to stick his neck out like this."
"Why's that?"
"The horses in this valley are as prized as the cattle. A fast cow pony is worth a lot of money. Shouto has bred most of the champions himself. Those races can have decent purses but there are some speed demons that come through there."
Grunting, Katsuki remembered him flying out of the barn on Medusa. "From what I've seen, Shinsou seems to like speed, maybe he knows?"
"Yeah," Sero flung his arm across the back of the seat and leaned on the headrest. "He's always able to get a horse to really run. I think his craziness infects them or something," he laughed softly. "Are you going in yet?"
"No, I'll give him ten minutes, I don't want to screw up his chances. Prick face made it clear what he thinks about me." Katsuki squeezed the handle tightly, it was taking everything in him to not to jump out of the truck and go check on him. Even though Freckles had made it this far in life without him, he was starting to feel that letting this man out of his sight wasn't becoming much of an option for him anymore.
"Oh, hey!" Sero slapped the seat. Katsuki jerked in surprise. "Vlad is right on this block, let's give him that box of meat for your friend. He'll pack it in dry ice and get it sent overnight."
Not wanting to leave his post where he could see the front door, Katsuki squinted at the row of business. "Where is he?"
"Right there," he gestured down the main street.
Katsuki gauged the distance between the two store fronts.
"Don't worry, even Shouto won't do anything at his work." Sero smirked. "Plus you can even stand outside and watch for Iz."
Grumbling, Katsuki jumped out. "Fine, fine."
Pushing open the door to the bank, Izuku felt the cool air of the A/C blow over him. Another unseasonably warm day had made it feel like summer rather than fall. The bank was fairly empty considering it was after the lunchtime rush. He saw Tsuyu sitting at the teller window. Looking up, she smiled at him.
"Mr. Midoriya!"
"Hi Asui, call me Izuku."
"I would but it's Nezu's policy, we have to be formal before we can be personal." She looked at his empty hands. "Did you need something?"
"Is Shouto in?"
Her cheeks turned into perfect circles of bright pink. "Uh," she clasped her hands and fidgeted. "He's still at lunch, would you like to wait?"
"Suuuure," Izuku drew out the word slowly. "Did he have a meeting?" Shouto was more punctual than a clock, so he was surprised he wasn't back yet.
"I think so?" Asui flashed her professional bank teller smile. "Why not sit over there," she pointed to a chair in the far corner.
Izuku leaned back trying to see the almost hidden chair. "Way over there?" He frowned, "I could wait in his office."
Glancing at the side door, her cheeks burned brighter. "Well, he usually locks it when he leaves."
"Okay," he breathed out and walked to the far corner to sit. He thought he'd timed the meeting perfectly. He was already a nervous wreck and sitting here waiting was not going to make anything better. Playing with the leather strap of his bag, he sucked on his cheek trying not to think too much.
"At least go around!" The sound of Shouto's voice echoed in the quiet lobby. Sitting up Izuku saw him dart across the bank, barely waving at Tsuyu. Unlocking the door to his office, he slammed it behind him, closing the blinds.
Izuku stared at the door, willing himself to stand. It was surreal seeing him again. While it had only been a few days since their breakup, the peace that had enveloped him since had made it feel like it'd been years. Taking a deep breath, he quieted his nerves and walked to his office.
The front door of the bank opened and Mirio stormed through, almost running into him. Stopping, he glanced at Shouto's office and back at Izuku. His eyebrows sprang up so high they nearly hit his hairline. "Hey Izuku," he hooked his thumbs into his jean pockets, clearing his throat. "What brings you to the bank? Don't see you here much."
"Hey Mirio, just some business with the ranch."
"Huh," he nodded, not moving. "Bank business?"
"Um, yes?" Izuku hesitated and wondered what Mirio was up to with Shouto. The whole town knew he had a crush on him and recently he'd been hearing rumors that he came to see him almost every day. Shouto probably just tossed him out on his ear since he never did allow anyone to bug him. Of course… Izuku suppressed a smile, he could only imagine what his reaction was going to be once he heard they'd broken up. "Is there something you need from Shouto?"
"Yeah, but it can wait." He sucked on his bottom lip. "Maybe I'll come back."
"Okay," Izuku could hear the indecision in his voice. He stood rocking back and forth staring at him, a blush creeping into his cheeks. Izuku realized he wasn't going anywhere. The silence grew awkward. "Oh, uh, how's the ranch? I assume your family is doing good?" He tried to fill the space with small talk.
"Doing okay," he shrugged. "We got a new breed of cattle. Not sure if you saw them on your land yet?"
"No, I haven't. Kiri and Shin are doing most of the daily rides. What are they?"
"We've been crossing our girls with a Highland stud and finally have a full herd. They're beautiful, you should go see them if you get a chance."
"Seriously? That's amazing, I will! I've only seen pictures of that breed. When did you start them?"
"Been a few years, I guess you were at University, took us awhile to get the herd going, kinda tricky, should bring us a better price in spring though."
"Good luck-"
The door suddenly ripped open.
Jumping back, Izuku yelped. Shouto, looking completely disheveled, snarled at him.
"Get the hell out-" his eyes widened, and his mouth gaped. "Iz?" He looked between him and Mirio, his face frozen in shock.
"Shouto?" Izuku gawked at him. This was not the man he knew. His hair was sticking up and his tie was crooked. Even the buttons on his shirt were misbuttoned.
"Are… are you okay Shouto?" For the first time since he'd known him, he looked uncharacteristically rattled.
"Yes, of course," he smoothed his hair, combing it quickly with his fingers and straightened his tie. Glaring at Mirio, he looked back at Izuku. "I'm glad to see you here, I was just going to call and set updinner plans with my fiancé." Enunciating the last few words loudly, he smiled stiffly at Mirio. "Sorry Togata, could I go over your account another time? I need to meet with Iz."
"Oh, I'm not really busy." Izuku noticed that his entire demeanor had changed. A lazy smile crossed his face, and his eyes twinkled mischievously. "Go ahead, I'll just sit and wait my turn… sir," chuckling, he sauntered to a chair and sat down.
Thinning his lips, Shouto glared at Mirio. "Are you sure? It could be a while."
"I'm good," he flashed him another wicked smile. "Besides, I need to finish up with you on a few things."
Inhaling sharply, Shouto closed his eyes for a split second, then smiled at Izuku. "Come on in." He waited for him to get settled before closing the door. "I talked to your mom." He sat down in his chair and gathered himself.
"I know."
"She said you had a good talk? You're ready to continue with the wedding?"
"We did, one we should've had a long time ago." Izuku pulled the paperwork out of his bag and set it on the desk. "I'm still not going to marry you though. What I need is a loan from the bank." Picking up the note his mother had signed, he pushed it across the desk.
Shouto furrowed his brow and leaned forward slightly as if trying to hear better. "What?"
Plowing ahead, Izuku pointed to the note, "I need that much money plus a bit more, it's time we convert to cattle and start to wean the ranch off water rights."
Snatching up the paperwork, Shouto read over the document. "Are you still sick or something?" He let out an incredulous laugh, "I mean Iz, either you fell and hit your head, or you been around that crazy batshit juvie-"
"Stop!" Izuku snapped. "I am here as a customer of your bank. If I am misaligned in any way, I will report you to the bank president."
"Yeah, well I'm the loan manager and your request is denied," he flipped the paperwork back to him and smirked. "Good luck getting that much money Iz."
"Why? This is stupid, I don't want to marry you."
"Fine," Shouto flashed him a condescending smile, "then default on your mom's loan."
"You." Izuku bit back his retort and shoved the paper into his folder, his mind reeling. He wasn't sure what he'd been expecting from him. Maybe it'd been stupid, but he'd hoped that the bank would at least consider a loan despite their relationship. "Wait," he paused, "you can't deny my loan."
"I'm the loan manager, of course I can."
"No!" Izuku's face brightened. "You're myfiancé, isn't that a violation because of our relationship? You can't deny orapprovemy loan." Laughing, he jumped up and opened the door. Seeing Asui sitting at the empty teller window, he called to her. "Miss Tsuyu?"
Walking across the bank floor, she gave a wide berth to Mirio, who chuckled in response. "How can I help you Izuku?"
"Can you join us please?"
"In there?" Her eyes widened in surprise.
"Yes, please." Smiling, he pulled out a chair, "I'm here to make an inquiry into a loan with the bank. Shouto reminded me that because of our relationship, you would need to be the lead. He wants to make sure there are no inconsistencies." Smiling triumphantly, he sat and began pulling out his paperwork.
"Oh! Yes! We do have a policy…" her voice trailed off as Shouto humphed loudly and sat back, crossing his arms.
"I have all the ranch's tax returns, P and a financial pro forma." Setting down the thick stack, Izuku smiled smugly at Shouto. "I think this is everything that you'll need."
"Great! Wow, so prepared! Let's get this processed."
"The fee is upfront, and you can enter any of the races. We pay down to third place." Gran stirred his coffee as Shin read over the list.
"None of those are stakes, right?" Kiri peered over his shoulder. "We don't want to risk losing her."
"No, we don't do stakes. It's only between us valley folk." Smiling, he sipped from his cup.
"So, you're still running over at the Todoroki ranch?" Kiri was surprised by the purses, they were bigger than he'd thought.
"I like this one," Shin pointed to the young mare category. "Float is only five, so she'd qualify."
"Has she ever run a track?"
"No, just pasture."
Gran nodded. "You live near Snipe, take her over there and run her on his old track. See how she does. If you can, race her with another horse or two. If she's solid, then bring her over. We run the races in three weeks."
"Do we wire the money?"
"Once you know she can run, then yeah, have Izuku send me the money."
"Iz?" Shin shook his head, "I'm paying."
Gran smashed his lips together hard, the creases deepening along his mouth. "Ranchers only kid, that's the rules."
"That's stupid, it's his horse, but I wanna pay," Shin rolled his eyes, "what's the difference?"
"The difference is rules. Ranchers can sponsor any rider and horse combo, but they have to pay. That way it's all of us just having some fun. Anything else gets sticky."
"Sounds good," Kiri jumped in before Shin could blow up, he looked like he was ready to pop off. Looping his arm over his shoulders, he squeezed him hard. "Iz will wire the money if she can run."
Smacking his lips, Gran squinted at them both. "Good, good," his dark eyes glinted. "I hear Izuku picked up one of Toshinori's mares."
"Yeah," Kiri nodded.
"You planning on riding her?"
"Not Kiri," Shin lifted his hand, smiling shyly. "I'm the one that likes speed."
"You're riding?" His voice hitched up a notch.
Kiri bristled at his tone as Shin's smile faded. "Is that a problem?"
Gran smacked his thick lips and stared into his coffee. "Just… never had you at a race before."
"We'll keep to ourselves and stay out of everyone's way." Kiri pulled Shin closer.
"Not what I meant," he shook his head. "Been hoping you'd show up." He winked at Shin. "Was a bit surprised. I've heard you can make a horse forget that it has to stay on the ground."
"They say that about me?" Shin cast a quick look at Kiri.
"It's true," Kiri smiled at him proudly. He was glad to hear something positive. Gossip about Shin tended to be around his more rebellious nature.
Gran set down his coffee. "Shouto's been the reigning champion almost six years straight in several categories. This year, he's only in one race." He tapped the paper, pointing to the young mare entry. "He's got a new filly, just turned five. She's out of Chargebolt, fastest quarter horse stud around." Leaning forward, he lowered his voice. "If that rumor is true, I think you're the best chance we've got to beat Shouto."
"We?" Shin snorted. "Like you'd really root for me over a Todoroki."
"Well, technically I'd be rooting for the Midoriya ranch, since they're your sponsor."
"True," playing with the paper, he squirmed under Kiri's arm. "No one's gonna hassle me?"
"No one will give a hoot, especially if you beat Shouto." Winking he laughed, a gravelly sound that turned into a cough. Picking up his cup, he lifted it high, "hope she works out."
"Us too," Shin slid out of the booth.
"Here, take the flier, that way you have all the information."
"Thanks," grabbing it, he tipped his hat and headed out the diner. "Sometimes I forget there are other people in this valley when I don't get off the ranch much." Shin murmured worriedly.
"Is it that big a deal?" Kiri pushed him across the street.
"Shit, I don't know. Do I really want to deal with all these assholes?"
"Get over it. Iz will handle everything. We'll stay at the trailer, show up to the race and win. Right now, we need to focus on getting her ready."
"You think we should?" Shin stopped at Sero's truck, it was empty, and the doors were locked. "I thought you said I shouldn't."
Cocking a brow, Kiri smiled. "That was before I heard Shouto had a horse in that race."
Fidgeting with the paper, Shin bit his lip. "Yeah, but he's been running since he was a kid, I heard he used to come home from school to race. Gran said six years he's been champion. Plus, that mare, even I've heard of Chargebolt."
Snorting, Kiri threw his arm around his shoulders and pulled him close. "No one sits a horse like you, Shin. And sure, as hell no one makes a horse run like you. Gran is right, I think Medusa has freaking wings when you ride her." Shin's face turned bright red.
"I dunno…"
Ruffling his hair, Kiri held himself back from kissing him in the middle of the street. "You know how Inko and Iz are into all that fate stuff? Normally, I don't give it too much thought, but right now Shin, I'd say this is destiny. We get her ready and you beat his ass, grind him into the dust where he belongs for what he's done to Iz."
Shin stared at the ground. "Right."Kiri still doesn't know."What he did to Iz."
"Shin?" Kiri could see him withdrawing into himself. "You're not scared of those fuckers, are you?" He snapped his head up and snorted. Kiri laughed at his change of attitude. "I'll be there too," he gave him a rough squeeze. "There's no way anyone even looks at you funny."
Shin laughed and poked Kiri's cheek with his finger. "Gonna beat 'em up for me cowboy?" He quipped mockingly.
"Yeah," Kiri gave in and brushed his cheek lightly with his lips. Drawing back, he could see those beautiful eyes filled with awe. His heart jumped into his throat.
Shin swallowed hard and looked away. "Okay, we'll go over to Snipe's tomorrow and try her out."
"These figures are really solid Izuku," Tsuyu was looking over the application. Shouto had been silent the entire time, an irritated scowl on his face. "Um, would you like me to present it to the committee, Mr. Todoroki?"
"Make sure the geo report is in the package Asui, I think that could be a problem in getting the loan." Shouto leveled a dark look on Izuku.
"It's in here, but as he said, they're restructuring everything towards cattle, so that should make up for any loss of water contracts over time."
"Yes." Shouto thinned his lips. "The committee will want my opinion though and I'll be sure they keep those risks in mind."
"But as his fiancé, remember, I'll have to be the lead on the loan," Asui responded and then paled as he landed a death glare on her. "I, uh, well, that is bank policy."
"It is," he clasped his hands tightly, "I think we're done then." He dismissed her with a curt nod.
Shaking Izuku's hand, Asui couldn't help but smile. "Thank you for this opportunity to work with you. I don't get to help much with loans, so this is really exciting for me." Grabbing the paperwork, Tsuyu leapt from her chair and ran out of the office.
Izuku felt relieved, he'd managed to get through the meeting without one blow up from Shouto, of course asking Asui into the meeting had been a last-minute stroke of genius. With her intervention, he might get the loan. "Thanks Shouto, I know this can't be easy for you, considering everything."
"Shut up," Shouto hissed, darting to the door and slamming it shut. "What kind of game are you playing here?"
Shit,he'd celebrated too soon. "Same game you played with my mom," Izuku threw his bag over his shoulder. "I just need to get the ranch out from under your family's loan, since I'm not going to marry you."
"You stupid shit. You can suck up to Asui all you want but I'm part of the bank committee and there is no way in hell I'm recommending your loan, especially a ranch run by a bunch of convicts."
Tipping his head Izuku laughed softly, "you seem to be really hung up on my ranch hands Mr. Todoroki. You do know that my mom has won awards for her program? It's been a model for other ranches and working programs?" His words gave him confidence. "In fact, the mayor hosted a luncheon and gavemy moma key to the city, and not because she was rich, but for what she's sacrificed and given back to other people." Shouto crossed his arms not budging. "Now," Izuku pointed to the door, "I'm leaving."
"You can throw up goodwill, but cold hard cash wins every time. I'll be sure to squash that damn loan." A knock on the door startled him, rolling his eyes, he swung open the door. "What now?"
Holding the paperwork for his checking account in his hands, Kacchan laughed at the open hostility in Shouto's voice. "Interesting bank greeting." He smiled innocently.
"You?" Shouto let out a strangled noise. Glancing over at the tellers who were all watching them discreetly, Shouto forced a smile. "How can Ihelpyou?" He bit out sarcastically.
"I came to pick up Izuku, the woman at the teller window said he was in your office?"
"Kacchan, I just finished," he squeezed out the door. "Good talk Shouto, I look forward to hearing back on the loan."
Watching them leave, Shouto's stomach twisted in panic as his mind began racing with the possibility that Iz got the fucking loan.
Someone tapped him on the shoulder. "My turn?"
"Hell?!" Startled, he jumped and slammed into Mirio. Planting both hands on his chest, he shoved him. "Get off." His mind was in overdrive. If Iz paid off the loan… he was fucked. Between his churning stomach and the massive headache forming, Shouto felt like he was going to throw up if he didn't do something, but there wasn't anything he could do at this point. That fucker had cleverly taken it out of his hands. Glancing at Asui, who was all smiles at her window, he swallowed the bile that rose in his throat. "Mirio?"
"Yeah?"
"Buy me a drink." Without so much as a glance at him, he strode across the bank floor and waved to Asui. "I'm going to go check on some properties!"
"Oh, okay," she craned her neck to watch them leave.
"Bye Tsuyu," Mirio waved.
"Would you shut up!" Shouto fumed as he ran out to the parking lot and opened his truck. "I'm driving."
"Yes, sir."
Jiggling the handle of the truck, Shinsou glared at Sero. "Could you unlock the door?"
"What's the rush, they're still in the bank."
"It's hot," he groaned.
"I got some cold drinks," he lifted his bag.
"Perfect," Shinsou dug into the bag and pulled out his favorite blueberry drink, he threw the red one to Kiri.
"Looks like they just finished." Sero pointed towards the bank. "And Iz appears to be alive with all limbs intact."
"I'd kill that fucker if he touched him." Shinsou twisted the cap off his drink. Hitting Sero, he pointed to the truck, "unlock… now." The truck chirped as Sero hit the fob. Climbing inside, he wilted, "shit, it's hotter in here, put on the A/C!"
"Now I know why I don't take you into town very often." Sero turned on the truck and the air started blasting.
"It's not cold enough!" Shinsou whined, crawling over the seat to put his face directly in the flow of air, his hair bouncing wildly. "But this does feel better."
"Give it a sec, it'll cool down."
Iz opened the door and gave a thumbs up to Sero.
"Nice! Did you get the loan?"
"Not yet but Asui-" The sound of screeching tires echoed loudly from behind the bank cutting him off.
"What was that?" Shinsou pulled his sweaty face from the stream of air to look out the window.
"Check it out," Kiri pointed as Shouto's truck squealed through the light, smoke billowing from his tires. Suddenly lights flashed from the opposite side as a hidden cop car came flying out of the alley.
"OH SHIT!" Shinsou lunged over Kiri's lap, rolling down the window, he practically crawled out of it to see. "Shouto just got tagged by Hound Dog!" Grabbing the seat, he shook it hard. "Get in everybody, quick! Sero, go, drive over there! I wanna see."
"Geez, Shin." Sero glared in the rearview mirror. "Calm him down Kiri."
Shinsou slapped him on the head. "Go Sero!"
Letting out an exasperated sigh, Sero waved at the others. "Get in, we'll drive by and see what's going on."
"Really!?" Shinsou hugged Sero over the seat.
"Not if you're acting like a damn teenager though, grow up, sit down and put your seatbelt on. Let's not give Hound Dog two tickets in one day."
Kiri pushed him back and grabbed his seatbelt, pulling it over his body. "Relax Shin," he mumbled, snapping in the buckle.
"I can't," he bounced in his seat. "Have you ever heard of Shouto getting a ticket? I mean, he's the golden boy!"
"He did seem a little weird today," Iz shut the door and put on his seatbelt. "Mirio was in the bank waiting to meet with him too, I wonder if he left him sitting there."
"You think he's trying to get a loan too?"
"Maybe?"
Shinsou was trying to see over Kiri, but from his angle he could only see Hound Dog standing by the driver's side window.
"He did mention they have a new breed of cattle though, I'd love to go see them."
"Yeah, they're cool, remember those, Shin? I didn't see them today, but I think they like to go down on the far side of the aquifer."
"I saw them after we split up," Shinsou peered out the window as they neared Shouto's truck. "Not so fast," he giggled excitedly.
Slowing the truck, Sero rolled down Iz's passenger window. "Go ahead," he whispered. "See what's up."
Izuku had to admit he was kinda curious about what was going on. Leaning out the window, he waved. "Hey Hound Dog, everything okay?" He glanced up to see Shouto sitting in the driver's seat and their eyes connected. He looked tired, a sense of defeat hung on his strained features. For a half-second Izuku felt sorry for him, then looking past him, he saw Mirio in the passenger seat. The big blonde gave him a sheepish smile and blushed. The feeling vanished.
"Hey Iz," Hound Dog waved as Sero's truck stopped. "Sorry," he grimaced, "you can't bail your man out today."
"I can't?"
Shouto was staring straight ahead now, refusing to look at him again.
"Nope, he ran through that light hell bent for leather. Don't care what's going on, no reason to endanger our citizens."
"Well, Hound Dog, it's sorta my fault." Izuku rested his chin on his arms, hanging them out the window. Shouto snapped his head around and narrowed his gaze, a scowl pulling his lips down.
Hound Dog clicked his pen hovering over the ticket. "What do you mean?"
"You see," Izuku tried to keep his voice light. "I called off our engagement today, at the bank. We're not getting married." If he'd dropped a bucket of ice water over the head of the three men, he wouldn't have gotten a better reaction. Shouto's eyes grew so wide, they looked like they'd pop from his head. Mirio leaned across the cab almost falling into Shouto's lap and Hound dog fumbled with his ticket book.
"What did you say Iz?" Mirio called out.
"Nothing!" Shouto elbowed him.
"Hell no," Mirio unbuckled his seatbelt and scooched up next to him. "Hound Dog is it okay if I get closer, I can't hear."
"I, uh," he was still gaping at Izuku.
"I said we're not getting married." He cupped his mouth so he could hear.
Mirio smiled wide and he touched his hat, "much obliged for that information Iz." Chuckling, he slid back to his spot. Izuku wanted to wish him luck but then maybe, he should warn him instead.
"Sorry to hear that, boys." Hound Dog tapped his pen a few more times, twisting his lips. "I guess I can't give a ticket to a man that's been handed his walking papers." Reaching up he patted Shouto's arm. "Slow your butt down, if I see you speeding again, I won't let pity get in the way." Slapping his ticket book closed, he walked back to his patrol car.
"How dare you!" Shouto hissed out his window. "I said this isn't done."
"Well, I say it is," Izuku flashed him an innocent smile.
"Fuck you," Shouto pulled out ahead of Sero's truck and drove off.
"IZ!" Shinsou kicked the seat. "He deserved a damn ticket! Would've been nice to see him squirm."
"I know," Izuku sighed, "but telling Hound Dog that we broke up," he shrugged. "It seemed like it would work in my favor." He turned to look over the seat at him. "He keeps threatening me that it isn't over. I don't know what he's planning but think about it Shin, if the whole valley gets wind of us breaking up, then he's gotta accept it himself."
"I suppose…" he pouted. "Would've been nice though."
"Where do you think they're going?" Sero pulled back into traffic.
"My guess is they're heading to Tumbleweeds, if they're going to the highway. It's the only place to go this time of day unless you head out of town."
"What's Tumbleweeds?" Katsuki couldn't keep the smile off his face. Freckles had really cut ties, and not just privately but in a very public way. He wanted to pull him to the back and hug him, hell, he wanted to kiss him.
"A bar that has pool tables and a music stage, we go out there now and then when a good band comes into town."
"That doesn't happen much," Shinsou settled back in his seat, chewing on his lip again. "I guess since you've told Hound Dog, it's gonna be all over town, we really have to get the money now."
"Yep." Kiri nodded, throwing his arm over his shoulder. "It'll work out one way or another."
"Kiri's right," Sero turned for the ranch. "Looks like we either keep the ranch or find a new life next year. Either way, Iz is free."
"I'm scared though," Freckles peeked up at the guys. "If I lose my grandpa's ranch, it'll kill him."
"What? Who lost the ranch? You or your mom?" Katsuki snorted. "You always put the blame on yourself."
"I know Kacchan," he sighed. "Still in the end, it's down to me."
"You mean us, bossman."
"Right," he smiled wistfully, "us." Jumping from the truck, he raced to open the gate.
"Tell me why I'm the one doing this?" Katsuki held the gun and timer in one hand, his reins in the other.
"Well, we figured running four horses would give Float a real experience at a race." Shinsou checked his girth for the millionth time.
"You'll be fine Kacchan," Freckles chuckled. "Bombshell rarely gets fussy with loud noises."
"You're shitty liars, you all just wanna race." Swinging his leg over, he dismounted. "And if you think I'm firing a gun while sitting on a horse, you're fucking nuts."
"It's a starter gun you moron."
Hearing the raspy voice behind him, he swung around. An older man in faded yellow chaps and a chocolate brown cowboy hat was sitting on the back of a mule. He grinned and held out his hand.
"Here give it to me, my beast doesn't mind the noise. You just man the timer."
Handing him the gun, Katsuki looked around for a mounting block. "How do I get back on?"
"Get on?"
"Yeah, the horse? I need a mounting block."
"Who the hell let you ride a horse without teaching you to mount? What if you'd fallen off in the middle of nowhere?"
"I'll help you after the race Kacchan," Freckles called and waved at him. "He's just learning Snipe."
"And you gave him a gun?" Snipe scoffed. "I thought you were smarter than that?"
Leading his horse to the finish line, Katsuki laughed harshly, "I keep telling everyone that he's trying to kill me."
"He's on Bombshell!" Freckles threw up his hands as if that was some kind of defense. Katsuki clicked his tongue.
"Oh," Snipe kicked his mule to keep up with him. "You're fine son, you could light a firecracker under his belly and Bombshell would just take a nap." He snickered loudly.
"Not buying it," Katsuki stopped at the finish line.
"Alright, when I shoot the pistol, you hit the timer, be ready to go quick, these babies will fly."
"How long does it take for them to run this length usually?"
"Quarter horse is the fastest horse in the world," Snipe grinned. "I think First Moonflash still owns the world record, just over 20 seconds."
"Shit, twenty seconds? Seriously?" Katsuki leaned forward watching as the four of them were getting ready at the other end of the track.
"Hell yeah, they run about 55 miles per hour, like I said, fastest horse in the world, even faster than a thoroughbred but only in a short distance. This track is a quarter mile long."
"Oh, quarter horse," Katsuki laughed. "I get it now."
"My guess is that little filly is gonna outrun the whole lot."
The four horses lined up waiting. Shinsou was in the middle.
"Ready boy?"
Scowling at the nickname, Katsuki nodded. The pistol sounded like a pop, echoing in the air. He hit the button on the timer and kept his eyes on the horses as they leapt off the start line.
Shinsou and Float flew to the front immediately, her thick muscles propelling her forward ahead of the others. Freckles was on Medusa and was staying close, but Katsuki could see he was losing ground, fast.
Riot and SoySauce were trailing behind with Sero and Kiri whooping and hollering trying to get any more speed possible from them.
A gap finally formed as Medusa lost contact. Shinsou was leaning forward, almost parallel to Float's neck and just before they crossed the finish line, he heard him yell at the mare. Her haunches pulled up tight under her body and she flung herself forward, like a bullet shot from a gun, she sailed by him. He snapped the timer off.
Looking at the time, he whistled softly as the other horses thundered by him.
"What was it boy?"
"The name's Katsuki," he groused and held up the timer, it read thirty-two seconds.
"HOT DAMN!" Snipe ripped his hat off and slapped his thigh.
"Is that good?"
"First race? Girl never seen a track. That's raw natural talent right there. Work with her for a few weeks and she'll give them all a good run for their money."
Shinsou trotted up, Float was blowing out so hard that the pink of her nostrils was showing. She danced sideways and chomped her bit. Spinning her in a quick circle, Shinsou patted her neck.
"Well?" Freckles came up with the others behind him.
"Thirty-two seconds." Katsuki held up the timer as proof. All four faces went slack.
"Seriously?" Shinsou gaped and then flung his arms around Float's neck. "Fastest cowpony in the world!" Turning in the saddle he grinned at Kiri. "I told you that day! She's something else!"
"Wow, I knew Toshinori had some fast horses, but I only bought her because she's so sweet," Freckles patted her thick rump.
"Sorry Medusa," Shinsou reached over and scratched between her ears. His mind was buzzing from the exhilaration of the race. "You're still my favorite, but you and Bombshell just lost the ranch speed record."
"Hey everyone," Ochako walked up to the finish line, "I heard the gunshot, scared the crap out of me," she looked accusingly at Snipe. "I thought someone had finally murdered you, you old coot." Grinning, she shielded her eyes from the afternoon sun to see everyone.
"Hi Ochako," Sero smiled, "been a while since we've seen you."
Smiling back, she blushed, "it has."
"I thought you moved into the city?" Kiri was circling Riot trying to cool him down, the gelding was prancing like a show pony.
"I did but the hospital put me on straight shifts, so four days on, four days off. Figured I could just live here on my off days, a lot better than the city."
"She parked one of those tiny homes in my pasture." Snipe started backing up his mule, "let me know when you come tomorrow, I wanna help you out."
"Will do, Snipe!" Shinsou's cheeks hurt, he was grinning so hard. His heart was still racing from flying down the track. "Thirty-two seconds," he laughed, burying his face into Float's mane.
"Iz, I think it's safe to wire the money to Gran for the race. Let him know she'll be in the young mare group." Kiri sounded so proud, his heart kicked up another notch.
"She's going against Shouto's mare?" Ochako tipped her head.
"Yep!" Shinsou settled his chin on Float's neck. "She's gonna win too."
"How fast was she?"
"Thirty-two seconds."
"Not bad, that's fast… but you know his filly is out of-"
"Chargebolt, yeah I know," Shinsou sat up, huffing slightly.
"He's been working with her for almost a year too." Ochako added. "I've seen her run, she's really fast."
Shinsou frowned, the feeling of happiness was starting to evaporate. He played with his reins. "Yeah?"
"Sorry," Ochako shoved her hands in her short's pockets and shrugged. "I mean thirty-two seconds is really great, seriously, for a first run, but you need to shave off some time to beat him."
"She's right," Kiri pulled up next to him. "Our girl shot off well but was still a little bumpy. I was behind her, and she weaved a bit. Let's go home for now, she did well on her first try. Tomorrow though, we'll work the start line a couple of times and get her to stay straight." Reaching out he scratched Float's neck. "Ochako?"
"Yeah?"
"When you say you've seen that filly run, any idea of her time?"
"Shouto keeps it under wraps, but the last time I was there, Enji mentioned he got her under thirty seconds."
"Under thirty?!" Shinsou gasped. "That's fast." The first bits of worry started whirling in his brain.
"Shin."
Kiri's sharp tone cut through his thoughts. Looking up expecting his normal ass-kicking scolding, Shinsou blinked. Instead of his usual stony face, his eyes were soft with an understanding smile on his face. Sucking in a sharp breath, his brows knitted tightly. It was as if…
He felt a soft tingling ripple through him.
"We got three weeks Shin," Kiri moved his hand from Float's neck to his leg, squeezing his thigh. "Only need to shave off a few seconds. I bet a few more practice races, she'll be under thirty too." He didn't move his hand, the heat soaking in through his jeans.
"Oh…Okay," He studied his face. It was as if…as if he really did love him. Shinsou nodded wordlessly. Averting his gaze, he saw Katsuki trying to get on Bombshell, the comical sight broke the intensity of the moment, and he burst out in laughter.
Spinning around to see what he was looking at, Kiri laughed with him. "That'll take a while," he whispered as Katsuki missed the stirrup again. Then louder, he yelled over to the others. "Time to head back. Sero, you comin'?"
"I, uh, yeah, I'm comin'." Sero couldn't take his eyes off of Ochako. Her hair was pulled up in a ponytail exposing her long neck and she had on her short shorts in the unseasonable heat. Her legs were milky white and smooth as silk.
"Actually, Sero," Ochako gave him a sly smile. "My disposal conked out on me. Can you help?"
"Katsuki's the mechanic," Shin pointed to the man trying to get on his horse.
"It's alright," Sero gave her a wolfish grin. "I'll do it." Riding up next to her, he took his foot out of the stirrup. "Wanna ride behind me down to your house?"
"Only if Miss SoySauce will let me," she giggled, petting the mare's nose.
"Since when do you fix disposals?" Shin snorted.
"You know," Sero helped Ochako onto the back of his horse. "I did have a life before this ranch, I know my way around tools and machines."
"Right," he rolled his eyes. "Didn't you lose the wrench in the tractor engine that one time?"
Ignoring him, Sero started down to the lower pasture. "Hold on babe," he whispered. Her arms wrapped around him as she pressed into his back. Kicking his horse, he urged her into a jog. "That disposal needs urgent attention," he teased softly.
"See you later Sero!" Izuku laughed at the sight of them trotting away. Ochako's ponytail was bouncing wildly as SoySauce jogged down to the lower pasture.
"I know the real reason he's fixing her stupid disposal," Shin humphed loudly. "He just doesn't want to clean the fucking troughs today."
"Maybe," Kiri mused. Riot chomped his bit noisily. "Alright boy, time to head back. Iz, you comin'?"
Looking over his shoulder, Izuku saw Kacchan still trying to put his foot into the stirrup. His tongue was sticking out, one leg raised high with his hand clinging desperately to the saddle. Biting back a laugh, he shook his head. "You two go ahead," he slid off Medusa. "I'm gonna give Kacchan a quick lesson on mounting the horse from the ground."
"Ha!" Shin barked out. "You'll be here all day." Clucking to Float, he trotted down the track laughing loudly as Kiri followed behind.
Crossing his arms, Izuku watched as Kacchan lifted his foot two more times, both times missing the stirrup. "Are you done doing it the wrong way?" Red eyes flicked an annoyed glare at him.
Mumbling, Kacchan tried again, "I'm completely aware that you do this for your own entertainment." He glared at him again, "I'm still a beginner at this shit. You keep making me do stuff that seems fucking impossible."
Coming up behind him, Izuku grabbed his hips, feeling the tension in his body. "Relax Kacchan," he shook his hips gently.
"Get me on the fucking horse and then I'll relax," he growled.
"Well, I'm trying to help you do just that but first you need to relax and…" he patted his arm. "You need to let go of the saddle." His gloved hand held on for a brief moment longer, then he released the horn. "Good job," Izuku cooed softly. His body relaxed under his grip. "That's it," he squeezed his waist encouragingly.
He grunted in response, "now what?"
Pulling on him, Izuku walked them both backwards until they were lined up next to Bombshell's shoulders. Standing behind him, he admired the way his t-shirt pulled tight across his muscular back. He noticed that his hair was starting to curl at the nape of his neck. "Your hair's getting long." He tugged at it gently wishing he'd taken off his gloves.
"Uh, Freckles?" Kacchan bent his head forward, his hair slipping from his fingers. "If you do that…"
"Sorry," Izuku smiled at the red blush slowly infusing Kacchan's ears and neck, his heart started pumping a staccato response in his chest. Although his life was still a mess, he was now officially single, and that fact was not lost on either of them at this point.
Focusing back on his lesson, Izuku moved to stand next to him and slid one arm around his waist, Kacchan's muscles jumped from his touch. A thrill shot through him as an explosion of butterflies radiated from his stomach only adding to the chaotic beat of his heart. Izuku cleared his throat. "From here you can get on your horse and still control his head."
Freckles wasn't stopping, if anything he was now snuggled closer against his side. Katsuki could feel his body responding way too quickly. If he didn't concentrate on something else fast, he was gonna be as hard as a fucking virgin slow dancing for the first time.
His dad popped in his head, it was the day he'd taught him to change the oil on a car.
All right, son… take it one step at a time. First you raise the vehicle. Then you need to position the catch pan and remove the plug. Just be sure to inspect the vehicle while the oil drains.
His brain was resetting, although slowly, at least he was in control to some extent. Blinking, he realized he was in front of the saddle. Clicking his tongue, he found his voice. "Oi, why do I feel like I'm getting on backwards from this angle?" He eyed him for a brief moment.Damn…that same smile was back, lighting up his entire face. His jeans tightened.
Next reinstall the drain plug and torque, then remove the old oil filter.
Freckles held him tighter. "I know it seems strange," he smiled reassuringly. "But from this direction you have more control." Leaning across his body, he grabbed the reins. Katsuki groaned inwardly as his shoulder dipped low, rubbing against his groin.
Now we clean, mount and remove the old O-ring. Be sure to lube the new filter and attach it by hand.
"Kacchan?" Freckles pressed his body closer, giving him a tight squeeze. "If you don't pay attention you're never getting on the horse." He pointed to Bombshell's back leg. "See, from this side you're at his head and he can't roundhouse kick you if he gets scared."
"Roundhouse kick?" That statement snapped him from his oil change.
"A horse's back leg can kick forward as easily as it can backwards."
"Fuck?" Katsuki stepped back slightly but Freckles pushed him forward again.
"Stay still," he scolded him.
"And eat horse hoof for dinner?" Katsuki edged back again. "I'm not an idiot."
Sighing, Freckles patted his back, "I know you're not, but I promise, you're perfectly safe right here, go back too far, then he'll just bite you."
He glanced between mouth and hooves. "It's a fucking weaponized animal!"
"Kacchan," he giggled, quickly quieting, as Katsuki crossed his arms and landed a death glare on him. Letting out a long breath he sighed. "Will you trust me?"
His damned green eyes were so wide, practically begging him, and his fucking body…Katsuki could barely think from the heat of his touch, it seared every inch of his skin through his shirt. He clicked his tongue. "Fine."
"Good… job," Izuku blushed as he pushed him back into the perfect spot.
Katsuki arched his brow, had he almost saidgood boy? Blood rushed straight to his dick.Fuck.
"Now if you can't reach the stirrup, you can always lower it and adjust it once you're on the horse." Stepping in front of him, Freckles grabbed the fender to lengthen the strap. "I'll go ahead and lower it for you today." As he moved to make the adjustments, his back brushed against his body.
Katsuki clenched his jaw as his damn body wiggled against him. He went back to his oil change.
Time to remove the oil fill cap and then we'll add new oil.
"The stirrup bar," Freckles tapped the small metal piece on the strap, "comes out when you pull." Tugging at it, the tooth caught in the small hole. Jerking harder the metal piece strained against the tight opening. "Damn, Shin just punched these," he gritted out and yanked harder. The tooth suddenly released, sending him flying backwards, right into his arms.
Katsuki held his breath as he steadied him, his whole length pressing into him firmly.
"Sorry!" Freckles laughed self-consciously but didn't move as he lowered the stirrup. The oil change came roaring back in his mind.
Replace the oil fill cap and start engine.
"There, that'll be easier for you Kacchan." Dropping the stirrup, he stopped and pushed into him.
Now just turn off the engine, lower the vehicle, and check the dipstick level. Good job, son.
"Freckles…" Katsuki grabbed his wrist and spun him around. "I'm sorry but the oil change is finished."
"What?" He wrinkled his brow as Katsuki captured his mouth in a kiss.
His lips were softer than he'd expected, almost velvety. From this close he could also see that the spray of freckles scattered from his cheeks into his hairline. Katsuki wanted to kiss each one. Groaning, he dragged his tongue along his lip, begging for more. Freckles leaned into him, his hands moving up his back as he opened his mouth. Sweeping his tongue through his heat, he tasted the deep flavor that was him. Shaking off his gloves, Katsuki knocked his hat from his head and shoved his fingers deep into his thick curls. "Freckles…" he breathed out, needing to slow down. "I'm going to have to dismantle an entire engine at this rate. We should-"
Standing on his toes, Freckles looped his arms around his neck and cut him off, licking and nibbling at his lips. Katsuki wrapped him up tightly and devoured him, his tongue dancing through his mouth. His taste and smell was intoxicating. His cock pushed painfully against his jeans.
"Freckles…" Katsuki gritted out.
"You have my name down," he teased, sucking at his lips.
"It's been…" Katsuki blew out a quick breath. "We need to go slow," he held his face tightly.
"Mmmm?" He moved to his jaw, kissing and nipping his skin.
"Not helping," Katsuki squeezed his eyes shut.
"I helped a lot, Kacchan," he bit his skin playfully. "You'll be able to mount your horse all by yourself now." Tilting his head back, his green hooded eyes gleamed with desire. "Just like a real cowboy."
"Mount?" The thought of getting on the horse in his current condition made him cringe. Katsuki side-eyed Bombshell who was watching them with half-closed eyes. "What are we going to do about the horses?"
"Yeah, that could be a problem," he sighed and laid his cheek against his chest. Reaching out he pet Bombshell's nose. "Don't tell Shin and the others, okay boy?" He stroked his head, "it's our secret."
"No…uh…" Covering his eyes, Katsuki laughed. Freckles was giggling with him, then pointing to Medusa, he giggled harder.
"Now with her, we're screwed, she has as big a mouth as Shin." Twisting his head to see him, he winked, his eyes glinting with laughter.
Catching his face in his hands, Katsuki kissed him again, lips brushing tenderly as their laughter died.
"Hmmm," he hummed happily.
Enjoying his mouth one last time, Katsuki took a deep breath and hugged him. Casting a baleful look at the saddle, he gently pushed Freckles aside. "I better give this a try." Looking down at the bulge in his jeans, he tugged his pant legs down, trying to give himself some room.
"Nothing helps," Freckles laughed, adjusting his own pants. "I guess my lesson didn't help much after all." He moved around to hold Bombshell's head. "I really did like that kiss though."
The words took him by surprise, grabbing the stirrup he cast a quick look at him. "Me too Freckles." He paused but knew if they didn't head back now, it would be near impossible to stop.
"Maybe," Freckles hesitated, petting Bombshell's head. "Maybe…while it's still warm and the others are busy with Float, we should go up and check on the herd at Ridge valley."
"How long… does that… take." Katsuki gritted out as he managed to get his foot in the stirrup. Swinging his leg up and over he landed softly in the saddle. "Shit!" He laughed out loud, "I did it!" His jeans pulled painfully tight over his hard-on. Grimacing, he adjusted his seat back further.
"Good job, Kacchan," he shortened his stirrup again, "that does it, we're going to Ridge valley."
Eyeing his mischievous grin, he cocked a brow, "is that close to the ranch?"
"Sort of," he shrugged nonchalantly.
Letting out a snort, Katsuki kicked him with his boot lightly. "Where is it Freckles?"
Laughing, he walked to Medusa and mounted quickly. "It's a little bit away."
Clicking his tongue, he gathered his reins. "Define, little bit."
"An easy trail ride there, and I can even lead Bombshell if you feel uneasy. We'll pack in, say hi to the cattle and come out." He started towards the ranch.
"I get one stupid trail ride under my belt and you're dragging me to the wilds?"
"This is at least three, Kacchan," he huffed playfully looking over his shoulder. "And it's not the wilds!"
"Two at most," Katsuki countered.
"Two and now you can mount on your own."
"And how long is the ride? I can barely walk after our lessons!" He continued grousing as he settled in for the trail ride home.
"I'll buy you a present."
"Always with presents," he shook his head. "I feel like a kid with divorced parents." Freckles laughed, a carefree vibrant sound. Katsuki grinned, there was no better laugh in the world.
"Have you ever slept on a bedroll under the stars? Nothing like it, Kacchan. Might as well take advantage of this weather."
"Shit," his heart just about stopped, "you mean we stay out there? Together? Overnight?"
"Yeah, that's the point." He smiled at him coyly.
"Alone?"Fuck, maybe it was worth getting himself killed.
Green eyes gleamed. "Like I said, that's the point." He tipped his head. "So?"
"So," he heaved a long sigh, "you promise I won't die?"
"Yes, Kacchan, I promise. We'll get in a few more lessons." Turning back around to focus on the trail, Katsuki could hear him humming some song. He watched his hips swaying with Medusa's stride, his dick swelled painfully again. Searching for a more comfortable position in the saddle, he searched his memory for another distraction. His dad smiled at him.
Let's dismantle the engine now, son.
"Drain any fluids, such as oil or coolant, from the engine." Katsuki started reciting the process.
"What?" Freckles turned around, wrinkling his brow. "What engine?"
"Remove any external components, such as the exhaust manifold and the radiator."
"We're riding horses to the valley, Kacchan. What are you talking about?" Slowing Medusa so that they were side by side, he looked at him. Katsuki pulled his black hat low and gave him a devilish smile. Freckles sucked in a quick breath, a red hot blush racing into his cheeks. Chuckling, he urged Bombshell into a trot leaving a speechless Freckles behind.
Alone with him under the stars.Katsuki tried to remember the next step, but freckled cheeks and green eyes kept invading. His dad popped back in his head, pointing to the cylinder.
Stay with me son.
"That's right," he continued, "next you remove the cylinder head and set them aside."
"S-Seeerrrooo," Ochako laughed as SoySauce shook her body in a teeth chattering jog. Holding on as tightly as possible she tried to stop from bouncing.
"That's it," Sero wiggled against her chest, pushing into her breasts.
Pinching his side, she laughed and wailed at the same time. "Stopppp!"
"Look, your house is right here," he eased SoySauce back to a walk and stopped at her front door. "Best taxi in town," he grinned, holding out his hand to help her dismount and slid off behind her. Loosening the girth, he pulled off the horse's bridle.
Inspecting her now dirty legs, Ochako muttered, "what was I thinking?" She began wiping at the horsehair stuck to her skin. Suddenly arms were around her middle as Sero swept her into the air and over his shoulder. "HEY!" His hand swatted her ass. "SERO!" She wiggled to get free, his shoulder jamming into her belly.
"Ma'am, you are cleaning those luscious legs, which I fully intended on taking care of myself." Opening the door, he ducked so that she cleared the frame easily. "I will ask you to refrain from further touching of your very fine silky legs," he kissed one thigh. "And…" tossing her onto her bed, he smiled as she burst into giggles, "let me clean them myself."
"It's just sweat and horsehair," Ochako sat up and opened her legs lined with a thick line of white coarse hair. "I'm taking a shower."
"No, ma'am," Sero jumped on the bed and pushed her down, holding her wrists. Pushing his hat back on his head, he dipped down to kiss her neck and ran his tongue along her skin. She shivered under his touch.
"I have to get back to the ranch soon, so if you don't mind." He jumped off the bed and ran to her bathroom. "Hang on, okay." He called as he slammed her door.
Getting up on her elbows, she grinned, he was so damn handsome. Hearing rustling and water running, she tapped her finger on the comforter. "Um, Sero?" No answer. "You said you have to get going soon?" Tipping her head, she stared up at the ceiling. What the hell was he doing?"You know it takes me a while to cum baby, so better get going on things, since you have to go back."
"Well then, let's get started," Sero sauntered into her room.
"Finally-" Ochako stared at the man in front of her. In one hand he had a towel but… "Sero?" A giggle burst out.
"You like it?" He spun around and wiggled his hips.
He was completely naked except for his cowboy hat and chaps. His white ass was framed by the dark leather and as he turned back around, his dick… Ochako gasped with laughter. He was already swollen and hard with his cock standing proudly out of the front. He swung himself from side to side. "Look," he winked, "condom already on, so I can take you when you're ready." Her laughter turned to a soft moan. "Now stay still baby, while I take care of you."
"Cowboy," Ochako's face flushed a bright red, "you are so twisted." Smiling, she reached out for him, "and so fucking ingenious… I like it."
"No ma'am," he jerked back from her hands. "Sorry, you are just too dirty right now to touch a pristine cowboy such as myself," he licked his lips. "Now start by spreading those pretty legs a little wider for me." Pushing on her legs, he knelt down and slowly wiped up her thigh, tracing behind the washcloth with his tongue. "You taste like my horse."
"That…" Ochako closed her eyes as he nibbled on her skin, "sounds like a fantasy too big for me to unpack right now." He chuckled and bit her harder. She sucked in a sharp breath as his hand dipped into the tight fabric of her shorts searching.
"I'll just take them off," she moved to unbutton them. He swatted her hand.
"I believe I asked you to remain still?" He reprimanded her as he began cleaning the other leg. His fingers pushed deeper into her shorts.
"Okay…" she breathed out, wiggling her hips impatiently, she gave him room to slip under her panties.
"These are indecently tight," Sero kissed her, leaving tiny marks as he nipped her tender skin.
"But…" he'd managed to find her clit and began swirling his finger, she closed her eyes and bucked against the rhythm he knew she liked. "It's so hot," she breathed in a long sigh as the waves of pleasure were starting to already build. The beginning, damn, she loved this part.
"Mmmm," his mouth covered her shorts just below his fingers and he blew his hot breath into the fabric. Biting through the thickness.
She let out a long moan and sank her fingers in his hari. She needed to feel his mouth on her. "Off, please," she begged.
Sitting up, he stilled his hand. "You want me off?"
"Dammit Sero," she groaned, "my shorts, not you." She lifted her hips and moved herself against his finger. His black eyes glittered as he sat back on his heels and threw his cowboy hat onto her dresser, her eyes drifted down to his cock. Her pussy tightened in response, she could feel the sweet tension with each rock of her hips. "Please!" His finger started again, clutching her comforter she groaned. "Not enough…" she looked up at him and smiled, "cowboy."
Yanking her short's button loose, he thankfully tugged everything off and tossed them in a heap on the floor. "Damn, you are so fucking beautiful," his eyes sweeping up her creamy legs to the now stark white skin and thick lips of her pussy. He blinked. "Ochako?"
Blushing a bright red, she pulled a pillow over her face. "Do you like it?"
"I.. it's.." Gulping hard, he choked. "Shit.. I… damn your skin is so white," he traced her newly bared skin with his hand, she jerked upwards looking for more. "Did it hurt? I mean, to have it done."
"Yes!" She was desperate for his fingers again. "I've been wanting to, but was afraid you wouldn't like it."
"Ma'am?" She peeked out from the pillow. "Please refer to exhibit A of our evidence that I do indeed like it."
Moving the pillow more, she noticed that his cock was standing straight up bumping his stomach, a load of precum gathering inside his condom. She grabbed him and pulled him down over her. Wrapping her legs around his waist, his chaps rubbed roughly on her skin. "Fuck me cowboy."
"With that enticing new patch of milky goodness?" He untangled her legs from his body. "I'm afraid I'm gonna need to inspect you a bit closer first." His mouth trailing down he licked at the fresh skin.
"Oh!" Ochako gasped, "that feels strange."
"It tastes delicious," rubbing his mouth over her pussy, his tongue found her clit and pressing down, he licked, hard.
"T-Too much!" She tried to bounce up, but he grabbed her butt and flipped her hips straight up, burying her head into the pillows. He latched onto her clit and sucked, digging his tongue into the sweet center. Like an overdose of drugs, pleasure flooded her brain. "There, but.. but not so… not so hard!" Speaking was optional at this point.
He didn't stop, shaking his head to get his face deeper between her legs, she jerked and twisted at the feel of his rough skin. "Fuckkkk, Sero!" Then he began to hum as he pushed two fingers inside of her. Any reason left in her brain disappeared as his fingers stroked just inside her pussy, directly behind her clit. She spasmed under him, clenching as his fingers pulled on the orgasm building. Suddenly he released her. "Gonna cum for me?" His voice was tight, like he was struggling too.
She thrust upwards, pushing his fingers deeper. "Seroooo…" her groan caught in her throat. She squirmed looking for his mouth, "Can't…" she gasped, feeling the pressure peaking.
"Yeah, you can."
"No." she shook her head and opened her legs wider. "Dammit, Sero!"
"Beg your cowboy," he laughed wickedly, "beg for your cowboy to suck that pussy into submission."
She was close, so fucking close. "Please baby," she whimpered, "don't wanna lose it, so fucking close. Pleassssee."
His mouth closed back over her clit and sucked, his tongue flicking where his fingers stroked, he finished her off with one long suckling motion on her clit. Her muscles clenched and heaved as she cried out, wetness gushing between her thighs and dripped down her leg. Panting, her body went limp. Holding her up by her thighs, Sero's tongue licked at the juices dripping down her tender skin. She shuddered as another pulse rocked her. Slowly, he lowered her ass down on the bed.
"Ma'am?"
Ochako groaned, her hips still jerking reflexively.
"I thought you said it takes you a long time to cum."
Laughing, she smacked his thigh, her fingers brushing the worn leather of his chaps. "Cowboy, you're unhinged," she smiled up at him shyly, his dark eyes glittering with lust. "It just takes forever when you're not around."
"Thatisa crying shame to hear," lowering on his elbows, he pushed up her shirt, freeing her breasts from her bra. Licking around her nipple, he pulled at it with his mouth until it puckered stiff and hard. "I think we might have time for you to cum again."
"Really?" She ran her hands down his firm back. "I'd like that."
"Mmmm," he was already sucking on her hard nub, rubbing his cock between her thighs, soaking himself with her cum.
"Now little filly," his voice was strained. "Spread those legs for me again," he rubbed the crown of his cock against her pussy, grinding against her clit. Whimpering, she angled her hips so that he could slide inside her body. Her breath grew ragged as he thrust into her gently.
"You feel…so fucking good." He panted as he rocked in and out, going deeper each time until she could feel his balls bump against her bare skin. "Damn, you are fine."
"I am," Ochako squeezed his cock with her muscles, sucking it into her body. "Cum for me cowboy," she drawled playfully. Trailing her fingers down his cheek, sweat beaded on his forehead, his face intense as he worked his hips in small circles. She raised her body up and matched his movements. She was relishing in the incredible sensations rippling through her when he pulled all the way out. "Wait," she whined, "no!" She rolled her hips.
"Stop baby," he pushed her back down to the bed and holding her down, began to fuck her with shallow thrusts.
"T-There," she could feel her muscles tensing under him. His fingers slid between their bodies and began to work her clit. "I believe I need you to cum and squeeze my dick real nice and hard to suck me dry."
"Uh…huh," Ochako knew she'd agree to riding butt-naked across town at this point. His finger was going fast but his dick was too slow, she shook her head. "Sero, together, same rhythm."
"Oh no," he smiled at her wickedly, tapping on her clit, he shook his finger faster. "I know you like to be fucked slow as molasses, but this is where you feel it." He snapped his finger on her tender flesh and rubbed her clit. Ochako jerked her hips up under him, slamming his cock deep inside.
"Hold on," he hissed trying to stay in control.
Hearing him so close to the edge, Ochako clenched her muscles, hugging his dick with her pussy with every stroke. "Come… on… cowboy," her breath was coming in short gasps as she pulled him in deeper. He pulled out too slowly and then with short quick shallow pumps he rubbed her sweet spot. The spasm was so powerful her muscles practically seized up followed by waves of intense pleasure that spiraled out across her body.
Her pussy was vibrating she came so hard, pushing deep Sero reveled in the way her body flexed and squeezed him until his own orgasm hit. A pulling deep in his balls as he came, moaning her name. "Ochako, babe." He pumped into her a few more times as his balls emptied their hot load. Shivering from the intensity of his orgasm, he lay on his side and snuggled with her, leaving his cock in her body, he enjoyed the occasional tremors that floated through her. "That was…"
"Unexpected," she kissed his arm and laced her fingers with his.
"What?" That answer was surprising. Spectacular, amazing butunexpected? Was he losing his touch?
"Well," she turned to look up at him, a content look on her face. "How often do you come over during the day?"
"Oh," he chuckled, "that kind of unexpected, you're right." She let out a long breath and nestled into his body.
"When do you have to go?"
Leaning back, he slipped off his condom and tossed it in the trash, then grabbing his phone, he opened the timer and set it. "Two hours."
"Sero? But… don't you have to get back?"
"I believe I had to go into town and get you a new disposal." He hugged her tight and relaxed letting their bodies mold together. "Let's just enjoy each other for a bit."
"I like that," Ochako sighed.
"But, my little filly, don't get too comfortable, I'll be needing to make sure you're entirely clean after we take a rest."
"Okay cowboy," she giggled and closed her eyes, sighing as she relaxed into his arms.
