Bartemius Crouch Jr.

(With Amelia Bones and Minister Fudge)

Amelia and the minister met up outside Bartemius Crouch sr's office. It was time to talk to the man. They knocked and waited. No one answered. Just as they went to knock on the door again Percy Weasley shows up. He smiles at them.

"Good afternoon Minister, Madam." He greeted them.

"Good afternoon Mr. Weasley." They greeted him back.

"Can I help you both with something?" He asked.

"Yes. We are looking for your boss." Amelia said.

Percy bit his lip. "He's been sick for the past few days. He sent an owl to tell me what I am to work on."

"Oh?" That was news to them.

"I'm really sorry minister. I thought you knew." He grabbed the letter. "He said he informed you."

"I see." He said before reading the letter. "I'm sorry to say I was never informed. Are you the only one working?" He asked. "He noticed that the other desks were empty and Percy's desk was overflowing with paperwork. The poor boy looked exhausted.

"Yes sir." He looked very worried.

"Why is that?" He asked.

"With Lord Crouch out of the office the others feel that this is a chance to give me some experience. At least that is what they told me. I did try to report them but either they are always there or they intercept my messages and then pile more work onto me." He answered.

"I see." He frowned.

"I will make sure they are handled." Amelia frowned.

"Thank you." He was relieved.

"You're welcome." She smiled at him.

"You will be compensated for your work. Take the rest of the day off and relax." Fudge ordered.

"Yes sir." He nodded and left.

Amelia and Fudge shared a look. They then reviewed the footage orb. Not many knew that there were orbs in the office to record the room. It was a new invention and served to help prevent theft or abuses of power. The reason why not many knew was that they didn't bother to listen or read their mail. It proved that Percy Weasley was telling the truth.

Amelia quickly called the others that were supposed to work in the Department of International Magical Co-operation into the office. They spotted Amelia and Fudge and they paled. They had a feeling they had been caught. An hour later and they were all sitting at their desks working. Fudge had given them an hour lecture and then called their assistant head into the office. He was supposed to be on vacation but these fools needed supervision. Lord Baggins was pissed off to hear what happened and he made sure his employees knew it.

After that was taken care of Amelia, Fudge, and a couple aurors went to Crouch's home. He didn't answer the door. One of his house elves did and she informed them that her master hadn't been home for days. That was all she could tell them. That made the two share a look.

"Where could he be?" She asked.

"I have no idea. I'll send him a message and have an auror look for him." He answered.

"Okay." She nodded.

"Did you send the aurors to Hogwarts?" He asked.

"Yes. Dumbledore has already sent a message demanding why." She wanted to roll her eyes at that.

"Of course he did. Let's inform the school and then have a press meeting." He said.

Amelia agreed and they went to the school. Dumbledore tried demanding answers but they refused until all three schools were gathered in the Great Hall. Everyone believed it had to do with Potter and they were partially right. The minister looked at them all before speaking.

"When a champion is chosen by the goblet a contract is formed and those contracts are kept by the unspeakables. Harry Potter had such a contract but somehow his name disappeared from the contract and was replaced by another." He revealed.

Everyone that wasn't a ministry worker was shocked. There were many that even shouted out in shock. Harry Potter was no longer a champion. The Hufflepuffs were pleased that the light was back on Cedric and that the attention seeker wasn't stealing it anymore. Many asked/demanded to know how that happened and who replaced him.

"Calm down everyone. Now had his name just disappeared that would have meant he died but since it was replaced by another and no death certificate has appeared we can only assume Lady Magic herself changed the contract. She would have been the only one able to." He answered.

"Who replaced him?" Professor Sprout asked.

"That is why the aurors are here." He said. "The name that replaced him is someone we believed to be dead. Since his name appeared we now know he isn't. The problem is that he was a criminal that was in Azkaban." That made many panic.

"Who?" Moody asked.

"The reason we believe his name replaced Mr Potter is we believe this person entered Mr Potter into the tournament and bewitched the goblet into choosing him. That person is Bartemius Crouch Jr." He said looking at Neville Longbottom. 'Poor boy.' He thought, seeing how pale he had become.

"That filth is dead." Moody growled.

"No he isn't." Amelia said. "After we saw the contract we looked for his death certificate. It was a fake." She answered.

"Now the aurors are here to keep you all safe as well as apprehend Crouch jr. If you see him or are suspicious of someone please go to an auror. He is dangerous." He showed them a picture.

"What about Potter?" Dumbledore asked.

"We will continue to search for him but he is probably in the muggle world and he is hiding himself well. We may never find him." He answered. 'He should be more worried about the students here and the criminal hiding here.' He angrily thought.

"I see." The elderly wizard was less than pleased.

"Well, I have a press conference." Fudge said. "All of your parents have been told." He told the children before leaving.

Kingsley was searching the castle when he was approached by a crazy house elf. He was shocked but then remembered Dumbledore telling him about him. It was Dobby, the house elf that Potter had saved.

"How may I help you Dobby?" He asked.

"Dobby knows a house elf that knows about the nasty criminal." He said.

"Oh?" He looked at him.

"Winky. She use to be Crouchy house elf." He said.

"Take me to her." He ordered.

"Yes auror." He took him to the drunk elf.

"Is she okay?" He asked, shocked.

"No. Given clothes had made her sad." He explained.

"I see. Winky?" The auror went to her.

"Huh?" She looked at him.

"I am auror Shacklebolt. I have some questions about your former employer, the Crouchs." He said.

"I's failed them." She sobbed.

"What do you mean?" He asked.

"I was supposed to be watching master Barty but he managed to throw off spell and get away. Master Crouch gave me clothes." She cried.

"Why would you need to watch Master Barty?" He asked. 'So Crouch sr knows.'

"Mistress Celia was sick and she convinced Master Crouch to free Master Barty. She took Master Barty's place in prison with potion and Master Crouch took Master Barty home. Mistress died in prison but everyone thought it was Master Barty. Master Crouch put Master Barty under controlling spell. I bes watching him until the world cup. Master Barty was able to throw off spell. He had been there under invisibility cloak but he escaped. I was given clothes." She broke down.

'I believe I am only being told this since she is drunk.' He thought.

"I try to take care of him here but he refuse." Winky said.

"He's here?" Kingsley hoped she would tell him.

"Yes. Pretends to be crazy auror teacher. Keeps the real one in a trunk," She chugged more alcohol.

"I see. Thank you." He said, standing.

"Dobby locked the door to his office. He can't escape." Dobby told him.

"Thank you Dobby." He said.

"Yous welcome auror." He said.

Kingsley grabbed a few other aurors and told them what happened. Some scoffed since they believed house elves were below them. They still followed him. Dobby was waiting for them. He unlocks the door. Unknown to them he had a silver flask in his hands. They found Moody in the middle of transforming back.

"Holy shit!" A muggleborn auror cursed. "The house elf was right."

"Shut up and focus." Another snapped.

The group quickly apprehended Crouch Jr. Three aurors took him to the ministry. The others unlocked the trunk and took Moody to the hospital. Dumbledore knew since he had been watching from his office and was pissed. All his plans were failing. He knew who to blame, Harry Potter.

Back at the ministry the minister and Amelia stared at Crouch jr. Kingsley was explaining how he had learned what happened. That was when Dobby appeared. He smiled and handed them the flask. They were all stunned.

"He tried to harm Harry Potter." He said.

"Are you bonded to Mr Potter?" Amelia asked.

"No. Dobby wishes but mean bushy haired Granger convinced him that bonding with me was wrong." He was sad about it.

"Oh?" They looked at him.

"Harry Potter raised by nasty muggles. Granger gave him false information so that Harry Potter wouldn't bond with me. Dobby does have his journal though. Can't read since he placed spells on it and wrote in serpent tongue." He said, handing it over.

"Thank you Dobby. Do you have a master?" She asked.

"No. Dobby works for Hoggywort but isn't bonded to Dumblydore. He's evil." He said. "Dobby work to protect the kids from him."

"Would you be willing to do an interview?" She asked.

"Dobby would." He answered.

"Wonderful. I will let the aurors on his case know." She said.

"Okay. Dobby needs to get back." He said.

"We will contact you." She said before he left.

"Interesting." Fudge said.

"Indeed. Well, let's start the interrogation." She said.

"Let's." They entered the room.

"Traitors!" Crouch hissed.

"Bartemius." Fudge said as they sat down.

"I won't tell you scums anything." He sneered.

"That's okay. At trial we are legally able to use veritaserum." He told him.

"Go ahead." He said, but they could see the fear in his eyes.

"Alright. Take him to his cell." He ordered.

Crouch fought as he was taken away. Amelia and Fudge sighed. They knew they weren't likely to learn anything until the trial. They hoped Lady White and Lord Mio had better luck. Amelia made sure to send the journal to the unspeakables and send word of a witness to Lord Mio and Lady White. They then went to their office to do paperwork.
