A/N: Sorry for the wait. All mistakes are my own.
Kieran is holding a mass.
"Thank you all for coming. It means more than I can tell you." He spoke to everyone gathered there today. "We gather today for the first public service of our newly reopened church. St. Anne's can finally once again be the heart of our community, where we can congregate as a people united. Here, this hour, we come together to praise God and give thanks. The events that took place at our church were tragic."
Klaus, Caroline, Stefan and Marcel, sitting next to each other, started to talk, while Kieran continues speaking.
Marcel sees someone he recognizes across the church, but can't get a proper look at her.
"Problem?" Klaus inquired.
"No," Marcel answered.
"Then pay attention. We're meant to seem like devoted parishioners." Klaus instructed.
"Really? Have you ever been truly devoted to anything?" Stefan asked, turning to look at him.
"Well," Klaus turns his eyes to Caroline. "I can be quite devoted with the right incentive."
He smiled wickedly, and Caroline swatted at him with her arm. "We are in a church. Don't start being crude."
Klaus grabbed her hand that smacked him and lifted it to his lips, kissing the inside of her wrist. His eyes locked on hers.
Caroline ignored the flames of desire licking across her skin at the touch of his lips.
"...and it is that hope in our hearts, and with the help of many benefactors, that allows us to be here today. So we gather with renewed spirit, made stronger, committed to the ideals of peace and love. Amen." Kieran finished.
While Kieran's speaking, Bastianna enters the church.
"Amen." Everyone repeated.
In the cemetery, Sabine guides some tourists. "Each tomb is well cared for. Families honor their dead with display of affection and respect."
"Is someone there?" Trapped inside a tomb, a girl calls out, but the group outside doesn't hear her.
"This place belongs to the Deveraux family, known throughout the Quarter for their strong connection to witchcraft." Sabine continued.
"Please help me!" the young girl called out.
"And if you look close, these fresh bricks tell us someone in the family has recently fallen," Sabine informed the group.
The girl screams. The tourists look disturbed by the noise. In the next moment, she bursts out of the wall of bricks and tumbles out of the tomb, frightening the tourists, though some of them take photographs.
"Hello, Monique." Sabine greeted, not the least bit surprised by the young girl's resurrection. "Welcome back to the land of the living."
After the mass, the people leave St. Anne's church. Kieran stands in the front of it. Marcel, Stefan, Caroline, and Klaus join him.
"Lovely sermon this morning, Father. Quite inspirational." Klaus complimented.
"I wasn't expecting you to join us," Kieran replies.
"Oh, we were hoping for some word from your human sources on the recent Haitian invasion," said Klaus.
"My guys have their ears on the ground and no one has seen or heard any sign of whatever his name is," Kieran told him.
"We have our people searching, but the search hasn't turned anything up," said Caroline.
"Your people?" Kieran asked.
"The wolves." Caroline clarified.
Kieran failed at hiding his surprise that Marcel hadn't tried to run them out-of-town like he did the Crescent wolves.
"He is called Papa Tunde," Marcel informed him. "And right now he's wandering in the Quarter with the power he absorbed from every soul I had buried in the Garden, so you might wanna put your ear a little closer to the ground."
"Or I could steer clear of whatever war is brewing between your kind and his before I find myself–" Kieran trailed off as his niece appeared and shook his hand.
"I wanted to congratulate you on getting the church up running. I can see this is a bad time." Cami said pointedly. "Nice to see you, Marcel." she walks away.
Stefan arched an eyebrow at the retreating blonde.
"Cami!" Kieran called after her and then looked at Klaus.
"Well, don't look at me. I tried to send her away," said Klaus, and his phone rings. He answers it. "Yes, Diego, what do you have for me?"
"Uh, we got a special delivery," Diego answered.
"Would you care to elaborate?" Klaus pried.
Diego stared down at the body of Papa Tunde lying in the middle of a white, magical circle with blood all over his suit.
"Either our witch problems are over, or they're just got started," Diego informed him.
Klaus hangs up, slipping his phone in his pocket, and wrapped his hand around Caroline's waist. "Marcel. Stefan" he indicated for them to follow and they leave.
"God be with you. Thank you. God be with you. God be with you." Kieran said to the church visitors.
Bastianna appears. "Oh, I doubt that, but I do appreciate the thought."
"Bastianna!" Kieran is shocked.
"Toursion fou, mort de l'espirit!" Bastianna cast a hex on him. "Give your nephew Sean my regards when you see him in hell."
Fear coursed through Kieran, knowing nothing good was going to come from the words that left her cursed mouth.
Elijah crouches near Papa Tunde's corpse in the middle of the courtyard. Klaus and Marcel are standing beside him.
"Can I get you anything, brother? A magnifying glass, a pipe perhaps?" Klaus asked mockingly.
Caroline and Stefan had disappeared upstairs. It made Caroline uncomfortable knowing there was an attack so close to home and she wanted to check on Davina.
She didn't trust that the witches won't hold a grudge against the younger girl for helping them,
"You have a theory you'd like to share with us, Niklaus?" Elijah asked in return.
"Back in the day, the witches wanted to send a threat, they just killed a chicken and leave it on your doorstep," Marcel commented.
"It's rather a large and ominous chicken, wouldn't you say?" Replied Elijah.
"Papa Tunde defeated Rebekah with ease, almost got the two of us as well. If he was supposed to be the prizefighter, why leave him for dead in our front yard?" Klaus questioned.
Rebekah shows up. "Well, don't you look cheery? Listen to this: A girl literally exploded from a grave today as Sabine was giving a tour of the city of the dead. It was Monique Deveraux."
"What?" Klaus looked at her.
"The tourists thought it was part of the show, but the witches are celebrating like it's some kind of bloody miracle," Rebekah informed them.
"Maybe it is," said Marcel. "They think that all hope is lost, but now suddenly a Harvest girl is resurrected. You kill a witch that took the harvest girl's place and the harvest girl comes back, infinitely stronger.."
"I have a theory about who one of them could be," said Zach, making an appearance. "Celeste. I mean, it's got to be. Davina was trying to tell you. She was drawing pictures of Celeste. She was warning us that a great evil is coming. Maybe its connected to her",
"How do you know this?" Elijah asked him.
"Caroline talks to me. She makes sure we know what's going on so we don't get caught with our guard down."
"How efficient of her," Diego muttered, his distaste for the wolves clear.
"First, Papa Tunde returns to settle old scores, now your murdered lover is back. This isn't witches attacking vampires. They're declaring war on us." Klaus said to Elijah, his anger thinly veiled.
Rebekah and Elijah are talking inside the compound.
"It's not too early for scotch, is it, with all the witchy shenanigans and subterfuge afoot?" Rebekah wondered.
"It is entirely too early if one intends to drive, yes," Elijah answered.
"Funny, I don't have any plans to go anywhere," said Rebekah.
"Katerina is not safe here. You have to take her to the plantation house until this is over." Elijah told her.
"You did not just ask me to help, Katherine." Rebekah glared.
"If Caroline can move past her history with her, why can't you?" Elijah asked.
"Caroline is too forgiving for her own good," Rebekah glowered. "And secondly, are you worried about Katherine or whether you can trust me?" asked Rebekah. "I told you I am done making moves against Nik. I just want to make the witches pay for playing games."
"It's precisely because I trust you that I'm asking you to do this," Elijah responded.
"Here's a novel idea: why don't you let Katherine decide for herself?" Rebekah suggested. "Why are you dictating her fate?"
"Because she doesn't believe she's going to live much longer." said Elijah.
"Then perhaps you should take her yourself," Rebekah told him. "Instill your belief in her."
"Well, then, that would make me the very hypocrite you've accused me of being." Elijah reminded. "Rebekah, I cannot control my feelings and I can't push my beliefs and wants on her... My actions, however... So, would you kindly do this for me?"
"You know Katherine hates being told what to do.. She's not gonna like it and I doubt she's going to listen. But I will do it for you if only to end this silly quarrel between the two of us." Rebekah smiled and leaves the room.
Marcel grabs her.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" Rebekah demanded.
"Listen, everybody's running off looking for resurrected witches. Meanwhile, I think I saw one at the church: Genevieve." Marcel told her with meaning.
Rebekah's eyes widened. "What?"
"I can't be sure. I only caught her out of the corner of my eye. Been with Klaus since. But it looked like her." Marcel insisted. "And you and I both know that she would have a reason to wanna be back. A lot of unfinished business, a lot of secrets that you and I don't want getting out."
"I have to take Katherine to the plantation. You need to find Genevieve and end this." Rebekah ordered. "End it like we did the last time."
Marcel nods, then leaves.
Caroline made her way to Katherine's room. She was on the bed, glaring at Sophie, who sat at the end of it, going over a chant from a book. Nadia Katherine's daughter paced by Davina, who was sitting on the floor surrounded by a mountain of books.
"Any progress?" Caroline asked, looking around the room.
"If there was, do you think I would still be lying in this bed?" Katherine grumbled, sitting up in the bed.
"Katherine." Caroline shot her a sharp look. "You're dying. You're not dead. You don't have to confine yourself to a bed. Better yet, you should be out enjoying the time you have left in case you kick it."
Katherine smirked. "That's some excellent bedside manner, Care. I didn't know you had it in you."
"I've been pouring through the grimoire's the Mikaelson's have, but I haven't found anything yet." Davina said from her spot. "But I won't stop looking."
Caroline smiled at her. "Why don't you take a break?"
"Break?" Nadia interrupted. "You want her to take a break? My mother is a ticking time bomb. She is going to stay here until she finds something."
"Last I checked, you have no say on the matter." Caroline retorted.
Nadia stepped up to her. "I don't care."
Caroline stared her down unflinchingly. "Touch me and you will regret it."
"Nadia," Katherine called out. "Go get some air." The last thing she wanted to see was Klaus kill her daughter because she dared lay a hand on Caroline.
Nadia looked at her mother for a long moment.
"Don't make me repeat myself." Katherine scoffed.
Nadia gave an annoyed huff and stormed out.
"Davina go for that break." Caroline smiled. "You too, Josh."
Davina nodded, and Josh followed her out.
Caroline turned her focus on Sophie, who was studiously ignoring her. "I have news you should be more than happy to hear."
"Unless it's to hear that you are letting me go, I have no interest in what you have to say."
Caroline walked toward the door. "I guess you don't care then that a harvest girl rose from the dead whose name just happens to be Monique Deveraux."
"What?" Sophie dropped the book and rushed to stop Caroline from leaving, grabbing her arm and turning her back around. "Monique's back! You have to let me see her!"
Caroline ripped her arm from her. "I don't have to do anything."
"Caroline, please," Sophie never thought she would beg Caroline for anything until now. "Please, I have to see her, help her. She needs her family and I am all she has left."
"If you want to see her, then I suggest you consider it an incentive to not fail at the task you've been given." Caroline's voice was icy. "Until you save Katherine's life, you will not be seeing your niece."
Katherine grinned. She rather liked this new and in her opinion improved Caroline.
Genevieve sits at the bar at Rousseau's. "Tea, please."
Kieran enters. Cami sees him while pouring the tea. "I'm busy," she told him.
"Cami, just hear me out." Kieran pleaded with her.
"You know, I came to your reopening because I wanted to try and make amends. Then I see you talking with Klaus, out in the open, like it's business as usual in the Quarter," said Cami, making her disappointment in his choices clear.
"It is business as usual. For the past three centuries, the O'Connells have always tried to keep the peace." Kieran said in his own defense.
"Save me the family history," Cami told him. "It's all lies on top of lies."
"Cami, pour me a drink. I have to tell you something." Kieran insisted.
Cami hands him a drink. He takes it. She noticed his hands were trembling. "Uncle Kieran, what's wrong?"
"I'm in trouble. What happened to your brother Sean is about to start happening to me." Kieran informed her.
Cami's eyes widened. "What?"
"I've... I've been hexed," said Kieran. "And I don't know how long I have."
"Wait. I know some people," said Cami. "There has to be some sort of... I don't know, antidote or…spell..." her mind drifted to Davina.
"Cami, I need you to promise me one thing. When it gets bad, I need you to be as far away from me as possible," said Kieran.
"No. No! There has to be some sort of way." Cami protested.
"Of course there is." Genevieve appeared. "If you wanna save your uncle's life, all you have to do is take this—" she shows Cami Papa Tunde's blade, "and make sure it ends up in Klaus Mikaelson's heart."
Hayley didn't know how much time had passed, but it had been a few days since Caroline or Klaus had visited her to torture her, but that didn't mean all visits had stopped.
Zach and his pack visited along with Dwayne.
Dwayne watched her like he was planning to eviscerate her and Zack and his pack took turns to make sure she knew what a disgrace to wolves everywhere she was. How if her own pack knew what she had done, they would be disgusted.
She tried to force their words away, but they got to her. She feared they were right.
And then there was the mental torture as Zach made sure she knew Caroline was more a member of his pack than she could ever hope to be.
It didn't matter that Caroline was a vampire; she was family to him.
It made Hayley burn with jealousy. She had fought so hard to gain a family, a pack, to find somewhere she belong and it came so easily to Caroline.
Then unfortunately there was the physical torture. After she would heal, a wolf would appear, torture her until she felt like she was going to die and then leave.
The process repeating whenever she completely healed. The wolfsbane they slipped her only made her healing slower and the pain worse.
She was in constant pain and she saw no end in sight, but she wasn't ready to give up.
She needed to get free. She wasn't ready to die.
Sophie could feel the desperation overtaking her. Knowing Monique was back and not being able to see her was torture.
Everything she did, every heinous act she had committed, was so she could save Monique.
She would be lying if she said she hadn't been stalling. Not really trying to find a way to save Katherine, but making it look like she was.
She wasn't stupid. She knew the moment she fixed Katherine. She was as good as dead.
She was not going to let her life end this way. She was prepared to bide her time and wait for her moment, the opportunity to escape and get out of here.
That was until Monique's resurrection.
Now she had to do as they asked if she had any hope of seeing her niece again. She would have to do everything she can to stay alive once they got what they wanted from her.
She didn't know how she was going to accomplish that, but she would cross that bridge when she reached it.
Now all that matter was Monique.
She a ran a hand through her hair, pouring over the books Davina had abandoned when she left to take a break.
"How can I help?"
Sophie head jolted up, she had almost forgotten, she wasn't alone in the room with Katherine.
She looked over at Nadia, the vampire that was Katherine's daughter, and felt an almost kinship.
They were both fighting for their family. If she could exploit that to her advantage, maybe once she saved Katherine, she could by some miracle managed to make it out of this compound alive.
If she did, she could take Monique and leave New Orleans. Start over somewhere new.
"I think the question you should be asking is, what are you willing to sacrifice to save her?" Sophie said.
"Anything." Nadia answered without hesitation. "I spent my whole life searching for my mother and now that I found her, I don't plan to lose her."
Sophie smiled slowly. "That is exactly what I wanted to hear. I believe you and I can help each other."
"If you can save my mother, I don't care what you want from me, I'll do it."
When they returned to the Quarter, Elijah asked to speak with Caroline privately.
Caroline was hesitant at first. Most of the time when she spent anytime alone with Elijah, she wanted nothing more than to cause him pain, but since learning of Hayley's betrayal he had been more welcoming to her and she was trying to let her anger against him go.
"I wanted to talk to you about the wolves." Elijah began as they walked down the street.
the streets were crowded, the tourist of New Orleans out in full.
"Why are you talking to me and not Klaus?" Caroline wondered in confusion. The wolves were Klaus' pack.
"Because they look to you," Elijah said, surprising her. "Zach and every single member of his pack would go to war for you. Not Klaus but you. They came here searching for Klaus, but you welcomed them, you helped them, you gave them a home, a place they could belong. You didn't want anything in return. You more than earn their loyalty and to them, despite being a vampire, you are considered a very valuable member of their pack."
Caroline never thought of it that way. She knew it was odd to others how close she was to the wolves, but she didn't see anything wrong with it. She hadn't given much thought to how the wolves thought of her.
"You're a vampire, yet you are their luna." Elijah began.
"Luna?" Caroline repeated.
"Their alpha female." Elijah clarified. "And it shows. You are loyal to them and they are loyal to you. A slight against you is a slight against them. I know you care about them. One of the main reasons I am coming to you with this is because I know you have their best interest at heart."
"What is it exactly about them you want to talk about?" Caroline asked, feeling a wave of protectiveness come over her.
"I think with what's happening right now, it would be best if the wolves take a step back from the quarter until we solve our current problem."
"You want me to tell them to leave?" Caroline felt the familiar annoyance when she was around Elijah flaring up. "Have you lost your mind?"
"I don't believe I am being unreasonable here, Caroli-"
"No, don't Caroline me," Caroline snapped. "You basically just said that the wolves trust me, depend on me and you want me to throw them out of the city?"
"I just need them to leave the Quarter, not the city, and it's only temporary." Elijah tried to justify.
"You talk about the wolves attachment to me. Did you fail to notice my own attachment to them?" Caroline stepped toward him. "I have very little family. My own friend's back in Mystic Falls didn't care about me as much as Zach and the pack do. When I came here to New Orleans, I didn't expect my life to change the way it has. I'm going to be a mother. I've built a family for myself. A family I can trust. That includes the pack and I don't care what the hell is going down in the Quarter. I am not turning my back on them for whatever the reason."
"I'm trying to keep them from being casualties." Elijah insisted. "Can you just think about this? You yourself have been a victim, caught in the crossfire of someone eles's war. Do you want that for them?"
Caroline hated that he had a point, that he was right. She turned away from him, running a hand through her hair, frustrated.
Elijah watched as she paced back and forth. He could practically see the gears in her mind turning as she thought about what he said. He hoped she would come to the right decision.
He tried not to grow impatient with the longer she took to decide.
Finally, Caroline turned back to him with a determine look, something telling him he should be wary.
"Okay," Caroline agreed, surprising him. "But I'm not telling them they have to leave the Quarter. I'll tell them to go to the old plantation house until this is all settled. Not all of them have turned. Some won't be happy about it, but is safer for the others."
"That's agreeable." Elijah said.
"And I am going with them." Caroline told him.
"Absolutely not." Elijah disagreed immediately. "At the compound, you're protected. You cannot stay in a house full of wolves. It's not safe for you or the babies."
"Not a single wolf in the pack would ever hurt me. Like you said, they would go to war for me and I will do the same for them. You want them out of the way. I am going with them. Either they stay or I go with them. Those are our only options." Caroline insisted.
"And what of my brother? You think he's just going to be okay with you leaving him?" Elijah asked, already dreading Klaus's reaction.
"I'm not leaving him." Caroline rolled her eyes. "You Mikaelson's and your dramatics."
"That's how he will see it." Elijah insisted.
"I'll handle your brother."
Elijah didn't think it was going to be that simple.
"Oh and Elijah,"
Elijah didn't like the sweet smile she was giving him. Nothing good could come from it.
"Do have fun telling Klaus the new plans." Caroline turned on heel and went off in search of Zach.
Elijah glowered at her retreating back. There was some evil in Ms. Forbes, after all.
With a sigh, Elijah went off in search of his brother, figuring it was better to get this over with now.
"The plantation?" Zack repeated.
"We're being exiled? What the hell for?" Rya, a female wolf, demanded. She had blond streaks in her raven black hair and tanned skin.
"You are not being exiled. Not all of you have turned. There are kids to think about. Things in the Quarter are going to get bloody before they get better, and I don't want any one of you to get hurt." Caroline explained.
"What if you get hurt?" Davis said. He was only fifteen and was one of the wolves who hadn't triggered the curse yet.
"I won't. I am going with you guys." Caroline said. "This is temporary and when this is all over, we will all return to the quarter together. I'm just trying to look out for you. I've been used as a pawn before, and I don't want any of that for you."
"Okay," Zach said. "If you believe this is what is best. We'll do it."
Caroline was sure it was hormones, but she felt tears fill her eyes at his trust. She reached out pulling him to her, hugging him tightly.
Zach wrapped his arms around her. "Caroline?" he asked when he heard her sniffle.
Caroline pulled back, wiping at her eyes. "Sorry, it's the hormones. It's just it's nice to have a family."
Zach smiled. "I've always wanted a little sister."
Caroline laughed. "You've got one."
Caroline turned to Rya and hugged her next, followed by Davis. "I love you, guys."
Rya chuckled, muttering about pregnant women and their hormones, while Davis blushed.
Elijah found his brother down in Hayley's cell stabbing her with hot pokers.
Hayley's screams had led him there.
"I've been looking for you." Elijah told his brother, ignoring Hayley's pain cry as Klaus twisted the poker inside her.
Klaus released the poker. "I'm a little busy."
"It's important." Elijah insisted.
"It always is with you." Klaus ripped the hot poker from Hayley and dipped it into wolfsbane and then stabbed it through her clavicle.
Hayley screamed so loud it echoed through the room, bouncing off the walls.
"Elijah, please." She whimpered. "Help me."
Elijah ignored her as if she hadn't spoken. "It's about Caroline."
Klaus's reaction was instant. He turned away from Hayley and walked toward his brother. "Talk now."
"Caroline and I decided it was best the pack leaves the Quarter until the current enemy is dealt with accordingly. Caroline suggested the plantation for relocation."
"I'm not seeing how this is about her." Klaus said impatiently.
"Caroline only agreed to this because she is going with them."
"What?" Klaus's eyes flashed amber. "You pushed her to leave me?"
Klaus stepped toward Elijah.
"She's doing what is best for the pack."
Klaus' hand shot out, wrapping around his brother's throat. "And what about what is best for her?"
"I'm trusting Caroline to know what she is doing." Elijah responded, knocking Klaus's hand away. "I trust her not to put herself at risk or your children. You should trust her, too."
"I do trust her," Klaus said without hesitation. "I trust her more than I trust anyone."
Elijah felt the implications of his words. Niklaus trusted Caroline over him. The words hurt, but in a way Elijah was glad for it. Glad his paranoid brother trusted someone.
Stefan tossed a suitcase onto the bed and watched as Caroline began opening up the dresser, pulling out t-shirts, tank tops, jeans and shorts.
It threw him a bit to see Klaus' clothes lying next to hers in the dresser. It was so domestic.
Maybe the fact that these minor details, proof of Klaus and Caroline's relationship, still surprised meant he hadn't fully come to terms with their relationship.
"Are you sure about this, Caroline?" Stefan questioned. "A vampire alone in a house full of werewolves is a disaster waiting to happen."
"You sound like Elijah." Caroline began folding the clothes neatly into the suitcase.
"Maybe he has a point." Stefan sat down on the bed next to her open suitcase.
"And I will tell you what I told him. The pack will never abandon me, and I refuse to send them away on their own." Caroline began putting some undergarments into the suitcase.
"They can't control themselves during a full moon, Caroline." Stefan said worriedly. "They will have no control over what they do."
Caroline went into the bathroom, connected to Klaus's room, filling a bag with toiletries. "Their not new to the moon. They know how to deal with their transformations, Stefan. Can you just trust me that I know what I am doing?"
"I want to" Stefan leaned against the doorjamb. "But you let your heart lead you and I'm worried it's going to get you hurt."
"You're not going to change my mind, Stefan." Caroline pushed past him, back out into the room.
"Then I'm going with you." Stefan said.
Caroline turned to him. "You don't have to,"
"I know I don't, but if you're insisting on doing something dangerous, I am going to be there."
Caroline smiled at him. "Thanks Stefan."
Stefan nodded. "I'm going to go pack," as he moved out the door, he passed Klaus. "Did Elijah tell you?"
"What do you think?" Klaus glowered, pushing past him.
Stefan turned and watch as Klaus's bedroom door snapped shut behind him.
He did not want to be Caroline at the moment.
"Were you planning on telling me before or after you left me?" Klaus didn't beat around the bush, after slamming the door shut behind him.
Caroline turned to him, taking in the way he held himself. He was tense and angry. Preparing for a fight. For an attack against him, whether it was a physical one of the body or an emotional of the heart, remained to be unseen.
"I am not leaving you." Caroline turned back around, shutting her suitcase tightly and fastening it close.
"You're going back to the plantation house without me." Klaus ground out.
Caroline turned back to him, taking a step toward him. "Because you're needed here. You and I both know you are going to put an end to this threat. You're in charge now and it's your responsibility to lead the vampires of the Quarter, but you have a responsibility for the wolves, too."
"I don't care about that." Klaus snapped. "I care about you being by my side."
Caroline closed the distance between them. Seeing the doubt in his eyes, she knew he needed reassurance. Caroline grasp him by the nape of his neck, and brought her mouth to his.
Klaus took control, kissing her savagely as he tangled his fingers in her hair.
Caroline skimmed a hand down his back, pulling him tighter against her,
Klaus's hand slid down from her hair, down her back, grasping at her ass roughly.
Caroline pulled away with a moan, feeling desire coil low in her stomach. She couldn't let them get carried away until they were done talking about this.
"I will be by your side. I am always by your side." Caroline ran a hand through his curls. "You know how much your pack means to me. I don't have a lot of family, but I have them and I have you. I won't turn my back on them. You take care of the threat and I will be back here. The second it is safe for the pack. I know you hate this, but when you took over the Quarter it became your responsibility to lead them all. Wolves and vampires. To be the Alpha. The King."
Klaus chuckled low in his throat. "I see what you did there, love. Appealing to my dominant side."
Caroline grinned. "Is it working?"
"I'm not gonna answer that." Klaus brushes her hair back.
"Do what needs to be done and nothing else is going to matter." Caroline cupped his jaw, scratching her nails through his stubble.
Klaus said nothing, and Caroline waited for him to say whatever was on his mind.
His hand slowly drifted down her body. "You talk about the Quarter needing me. Don't you need me?"
Caroline's breath caught in her throat as his hand rest on the curve of her stomach.
Klaus's touch to her stomach since learning the truth had been hesitant. Almost like he was scared.
In a weird way, Caroline felt comforted that she wasn't the only one scared when it came to impending parenthood.
She worried that her bonds with her babies wouldn't be as strong and Klaus he was afraid of getting close.
Caroline understood her own fears, but she had yet to talk to Klaus about his. He wasn't one to admit to being afraid.
Caroline's hand came up to caress his face, directing his gaze to hers. "Yes, I need you all the time." Caroline's hand came down to cover his on her stomach, lacing their fingers. "Our family needs you. Always."
Klaus nodded and tugged her back against him, his mouth coming over hers in a desperate kiss.
Caroline could feel the words he wasn't saying in his kiss. He needed her, too. He just couldn't put it into words.
Caroline moved her hand from his and gripped his arm, turning them around.
Klaus backed up until he felt the back of his knees hit the mattress.
Caroline pushed at his shoulders, and he took the hint, sitting down on the bed.
Caroline climbed into his lap, never once breaking the kiss as she took control.
Klaus groaned. He loved when Caroline took charge. She was the only one he didn't mind handling control over to.
He squeezed her ass as she ground down against him, her tongue sweeping into his mouth, her hands grasping his face.
Caroline felt her body come alive in that familiar way whenever Klaus' lips touched any part of her, his hands taking welcome liberties with her body. Desire coursed through her, sharper than she felt in days.
She circled her hips, needing friction, needing something, anything to satisfy the desire working through her.
"I need you," Caroline gasped, pulling her mouth from his, panting.
Klaus moved one hand from her ass and cupped her heaving breast, his thumb brushing across her clothed nipple and feeling it harden beneath the fabric.
"Tell me," he squeezed both her ass and breast roughly and it a sent jolt straight to Caroline's throbbing core. "Tell me what you need."
Caroline nip at his bottom lip, enough to draw a drop of blood and sucked on it, the small taste of his blood sending a fresh wave of arousal through her.
Klaus pulled her down on him roughly. "Tell me, Caroline."
The words to tell him to fuck her, deep, hard, fast. Any way he wanted to as long as he eased the ache between her legs was on the tip of her tongue when their bedroom door opened without warning.
"Sorry to interrupt, but we need to talk," Rebekah blew into the room like the wind.
"Rebekah," Elijah was hot on her heels.
Caroline whimpered in dismay and buried her face in Klaus' neck. Klaus groaned in annoyance, glaring at his siblings. "Could we do this any other time than right now?"
"No," Rebekah answered bluntly. "You can fuck like bunnies later."
Caroline rolled her eyes heavenward and climb off of Klaus lap, fixing her shirt and running a hand through the tangles Klaus's fingers created in her hair.
"Talk and leave," Klaus ground out, reaching for Caroline's hand.
"Are you really planning on staying with the wolves alone?" Rebekah demanded.
"Stefan will be there." Caroline told her.
"Cause that makes it so much better." Rebekah muttered. "He's just another chew toy for them, along with yourself."
"The wolves would never hurt me," Caroline defended.
"Wolves can't always control themselves, seeing as you've suffered from a wolf bite more than once. I would think you would know that better than anyone." Rebekah insisted.
Caroline narrowed her eyes. "Did you come in here just to berate me?"
Rebekah shook her head. "That is not what I am doing. This is about putting yourself in unnecessary danger."
"You all sound alike." Caroline grumbled.
"Rebekah has agreed to take Katerina to the plantation with the wolves. It's not safe for her here, right now." Elijah interjected. "She has agreed to stay with you until you can return to the Quarter."
"The last thing I want is to spend time with Katherine or a bunch of mutts for any length of time, but if you are insistent on this, I don't want you to be on your own. If something happens, I want to be there to do what I can for you."
Caroline knew Rebekah was hardly one for kind words or acting as a guard service for her brothers. This had nothing to do with Klaus or Elijah. For weeks Rebekah had been trying to apologize for betraying her and Caroline could see she was still trying to make it up to her.
The truth was, Caroline knew how to let the past go, but if Rebekah wanted to prove that she was sorry by being helpful, she wasn't going to tell her otherwise.
"What about curing Katherine?" Caroline asked, instead.
"Sophie will be staying here." Elijah said. "We can't let her out of the compound. She will be locked up again. Devina, Josh, and Nadia will be going with you. Davina will keep working on it."
"So me, the wolves, Stefan, Rebekah, Katherine, Davina, Josh and Nadia." Caroline listed off. "What could possibly go wrong?"
"Now that that's discussed, how about you two get out?" Klaus stood, glaring at his siblings.
Rebekah rolled her eyes and walked out the door, Elijah close on her heels.
As soon as they were gone Klaus was pushing Caroline's suitcase to the floor and tossing her onto the bed, crawling over her like the predator he was.
Caroline welcomed him. She couldn't even bring herself to protest as he tore her clothes from her body and proceeded to make her scream his name in ecstasy, giving her the pleasure her body yearned for.
The plantation group had piled out of several cars in front of the plantation. The wolves taking up at least 4 vehicles, Katherine, Rebekah, Nadia, traveled in another and then Caroline, Stefan Davina and Josh and Zach.
"I thought I was gonna have to drag you to the plantation kicking and screaming," Rebekah commented.
"Yeah, well Davina and her friend, what's his name, are driving me crazy with their non-stop chatter," said Katherine, and glared. "If I had known they were coming too, I wouldn't have come."
"I think you should be more grateful to Davina when she is trying to save you."
"Why would I be grateful to those who've done nothing but fail," Kathrine replied.
"You know I can hear you," Davina glared, tempted to boil Katherine's blood.
Katherine rolled her eyes. "Witches are so sensitive these days."
"I seriously have no idea what my brother sees in you," said Rebekah.
Katherine sent her a saucy smirk. "I can think of a few reasons."
Rebekah pretended to gag.
"What's going on here?" Katherine asked. "Did you really decide to throw a party for little old me?"
"What?" Rebekah's eyes narrowed. "What the hell is going on here?"
There was a man moving a dolly inside the truck. "What business do you have here?"
"Kegs out back," the man answered as one of the wolves from her brother's pack stepped out of the plantation house.
"What are you doing here already?" Rebekah demanded.
"It's a full moon," the man answered. "Hayley's pack is turning tonight and Caroline wants us to welcome them on the one night they will be human. We already got a message out to Eve in the bayou. Caroline thinks it a chance to expand the pack's ranks. The greater the rank, the greater the pack."
Caroline turned around to look at Caroline. "And why do you want to do this?" Rebekah questioned.
"So we can find out where their loyalties lie." Caroline answered.
"You sound more like Klaus every day." Rebekah said.
"Is that a compliment or an insult?" Caroline asked.
"Both," Katherine answered for Rebekah, the smirk on her lips giving her thoughts on the matter away. She like it. "I'm always up for a party. With me dying and all it might just well be my last," Katherine smirked, turned salacious. "I won't say no to a good time."
Stefan sent her a glare when she flashed him a seductive smile, and Rebekah rolled her eyes.
"Quick question, but what are we going to do when the full moon and all the wolves turn and we become their chew toys?" ask Josh.
Zach smirked at him. "Not everyone will be a chew toy. The pack recognizes Caroline as one of us. She'll be fine."
"Well, that's something." Josh said.
"You have nothing to worry about. I thought about this and Davina has a solution similar to the vampire boundary spell. When the wolves turn, they will be spelled into a room." Caroline explained.
"You can do that?" Stefan looked at Davina.
"We'll find out tonight."
Caroline tugged the younger girl into her side. "Don't doubt yourself. You're going to do great."
Davina smiled up at Caroline. The blonde had a way of making her feel like there was nothing she couldn't do and that was an amazing feeling to have someone believe in you that much. .
"This plan doesn't sound foolproof." Nadia complained.
"No plan is, but it's better than no plan." Rebekah interjected.
"Says the only vampire here who can survive a wolf bite." Nadia glared.
"Perks of being an Original," Rebekah smirked at the other girl. "I'm sure I don't need to remind you the differences between the two."
"Hey, didn't you two have something going on with Matt?" Caroline asked.
Stefan looked at Rebekah with a raised brow.
"And it was quite fun." Rebekah smirked.
"You and Rebekah?" Katherine looked at her daughter. "I don't know if I should be proud or not." then she smirked. "How was it?" she asked, receiving a fair share of eye rolls.
"I'm not answering that." Nadia responded.
"Why not ask Stefan? He's been with her." Caroline shot a teasing smile Stefan's way.
"Traitor." Stefan accused.
"That doesn't answer the question." Caroline taunted.
Stefan sent her a glare and looked over at Rebekah, finding her already watching him. "It's an eye-opening experience."
Rebekah was a little surprised by his answer, but she was further thrown by the look in his eyes. It was almost wistful.
Sabine walks down a street in the French Quarter, followed by Elijah. She turns around to him. "Elijah. To what do I owe the pleasure?"
"My family needs an ally among the witches, and you've helped us in the past. Perhaps together we can avoid an unnecessary conflict." Elijah suggested.
"They may be willing to make a deal if it were with the noble Elijah. But there will never be any peace as long as it involves Klaus." Sabine told him. "Let's not forget you are holding Sophie hostage."
"Is that what it's always about?" Elijah questioned, choosing to ignore her comment about Sophie. "You want my brother out of town?"
"I'm just telling you how they feel. My people are scared, they're desperate, but they're not dumb. You have two nieces on the way. It stands to reason you'd be willing to discuss how to run him out of the city." Sabine reasoned. "And return Sophie safely to us."
"Let's walk together," Elijah suggested. "You can take me on one of your famous tours."
When Monique first came back, she expected her aunt Sophie to be there to welcome her back.
She sat in the backroom of Rousseau's pondering at her aunt's predicament. Celeste had explained how her aunt was a prisoner of the Mikaelson's and it was up to them to free her, but Monique wasn't sure Sophie deserved to be saved.
Sophie didn't believe she would come back, didn't believe in the harvest, or the knowledge of the ancestors.
She didn't have faith, and that wasn't something Monique could just forgive.
There was a brush of wind and Sophie looked up to see a woman with long brown hair, standing across from her.
"Monique Deveuax?"
Monique squared her shoulders, staring hard at the woman. "What do you want?"
"I'm Nadia. I want to offer my friendship. I am acquaintances with your aunt. I believe we can help each other." Nadia tossed her hair back. "Would you like to see her?"
Monique didn't much care about seeing her aunt again, but she did have questions for her and she wanted answers.
Cami is sitting in St. Anne's church, holding Papa Tunde's blade in her hand. Klaus enters. Cami quickly hides the blade.
"I got your message. Where's Kieran now?" asks Klaus, taking a seat next to Cami.
"In the attic. Resting, praying." Cami answered. "He's gonna go crazy and die, isn't he? Just like Sean. And we'll still be in this stupid fight because he lied to me about the witches. And vampires. And you."
"Camille. I can see why you hate me. Truth be told, I have done some dreadful things." Klaus admitted. "But the lies your uncle told were meant to protect you. He is a good man with a loyal heart. And he is your family. As for these witches, their attack on Kieran should be proof enough they are the enemy. In that we are united." Klaus stands up.
Cami follows him, holding the blade in her hand. "Klaus."
He turns around and looks at the blade, then at Cami, then at the blade again. Cami hands it to him.
"This is Papa Tunde's blade," Klaus observed.
"A witch gave it to me," Cami told him. "Said it would cause untold pain and torment, even to an Original. She said if I stuck it in your heart, she'd heal Kieran."
"And yet you chose to reject their offer," replied Klaus.
"Maybe if I were more like you, I could do it, but I'm not–"
"A monster?" Klaus asked, cutting her off.
"I'm not stupid," said Cami. "If there's a war going on, I wanna be on the winning side and you've already threatened my life once already."
"Let's see what we can do about saving your uncle, shall we?" Klaus responded.
"Where did Nadia go?" Katherine asked.
She was used to Nadia getting her whatever she asked and being at her side that it didn't take long before she noticed her presence.
"She said she was getting hungry." Josh answered, passing Davina a book.
The three were in a library, Katherine getting comfy on a couch and Davina was seated at a table.
Katherine felt annoyed that her daughter left her alone with the teenage witch and baby vamp sidekick. Perhaps she could convince Stefan to keep her company until Nadia returned.
Sophie glared down at the surrounding books.
She wanted nothing more than to tear out every fucking page.
Scrolling through them endlessly and coming up empty-handed was frustrating.
She needed to fix Katherine so she could get the hell out of here.
She needed to see her niece and get the hell out of dodge before either Caroline or Klaus kill her for what she did.
She looked up when the door to the room opened up. She would have tried to escape if she knew it wasn't spelled to keep her inside.
Davina had clevered up and link the spell to her blood specifically. There was nothing she could do to get free until Davina reversed the spell.
She caught sight of Nadia walking into the room. "What are doing back here without your mo…" she trailed off as the person she wanted to see most walked through the door. "Monique?" the book she held clattered to the floor. "Oh, my God, Monique."
Monique stood stock steel as her aunt threw her arms around her, hugging her softly.
"Oh my God, Monique, I can't believe you're here." Sophie cried, clinging to her niece. "You have no idea how happy I am to see you."
Monique didn't make a move to return the hug and said nothing in reply.
Sophie pulled back slowly. "Are you okay?"
"I'm fine." Monique walked around her and surveyed the room. "So this is where you're being kept."
"For now." Sophie answered. "But once I help Nadia's mother. I will be free."
"Do you actually believe that?" Monique asked. "You manipulated and used Klaus Mikaelson's biggest weakness against him and you think he's going to let you go and not kill you? You think Caroline is going to let you go free after what you did to her?"
Sophie frowned. "How do you know about that?"
"You know better than anyone that the ancestors have power beyond death. I've been with them for months. I know everything you have done." Monique's eyes flashed angrily. "You sacrificed someone from our coven for your plans. You sacrificed a witch's child to make it possible for a vampire to get pregnant, and now Klaus Mikaelson's devil spawns are going to be brought into the world."
"Everything I did, I did for you." Sophie defended.
"If you had had faith in the harvest in the first place, you wouldn't have needed to do anything. If you really think about it, this is all on you. And now the supernatural world is going to be in danger the second Caroline Forbes gives birth to the Original Hybrid's abominations,"
"I don't care about any of that. I only care about my family." Sophie defended.
Monique watched her, and there was something about her icy gaze that made Sophie feel like she was facing an enemy. "What happened to my mother?"
Sophie's eyes filled with tears. "She died for the chance to bring you back and I promised myself that I would get you back at any cost so her death would not be in vain."
"And look at you now. You're a prisoner." Monique said. "Everything you do makes things worse."
Sophie watched angst as her niece turned away from her. "I'll fix it. I promise I'm going to fix it."
Monique turned back to her. "If you want to fix it, then kill Caroline Forbes before she has a chance to give birth to those cursed children."
Sophie watched her niece leave, unable to believe what had just happened.
The reunion with Monique didn't go as she expected. More so, Monique was different. Colder. There was something less human about her and unlike the sweet girl she remembered.
"Are you really going to kill Caroline?"
Sophie had almost forgotten that Nadia was there. "Do you really think I am going to answer that question, honestly?"
"Look, I don't care what you have to do, but do not do it before you help my mother. If I am going to help you get away from the Mikaelson's, I expect you to keep your end of the deal."
"And I will," Sophie said. "But until I am free, I need you to make sure nothing happens to Monique. If word gets out that she wants Caroline dead, no one, not even me, will be able to save her. Do whatever it takes to keep that from getting out and I will do absolutely everything in my power to save your mother."
Nadia nodded. "You better keep your word."
She turned on her heel, planning to return to the plantation house, hoping that no one had noticed her absence.
Davina was getting settled in with Josh's help when her phone vibrated with a text from Marcel
Need to talk. Alone.
Davina frowned, wondering why he didn't just call. She sent him a text back.
When?
She didn't have to wait long for his reply.
Now, There's a lake a little over a mile north of the plantation. Meet me there. I will be waiting.
Davina bit her lip. It sounded important, but the place was full of wolves and it was a full moon tonight.
This better be damn important with the risk he wanted her to take.
"Caroline," Davina found Caroline talking with a few wolves in the study. "I'm sorry to interrupt, but I need to ask you something?
"Go ahead," Caroline said, stepping away from the wolves, walking back out into the hall with Davina.
"I need to leave for a little bit, but I will be back in an hour or so. Is that okay?"
Caroline frowned at Davina.
"I promise it will be quick." Davina insisted.
"Davina," Caroline shook her head. "You don't have to ask permission to do something. All I ask is that you make it back before nightfall. It's a full moon tonight and if you are not a wolf, it won't be safe for you."
"I can protect myself." Davina argued.
"I know you can," Caroline assured, touching her arm. "But that doesn't stop me from worrying about my friend."
Davina smiled warmly. "I'll be careful."
"Good. When you're back, we can have dinner together." Caroline grinned. "I may be a vampire, but these babies crave actual food. Bacon cheese burger and fries. God, I need some fries."
Davina laughed. "I'll send Josh on a food run while I'm gone."
"Would you," Caroline asked hopefully, and Davina nodded. "Oh, I love you."
Davina laughed as Caroline pulled her in for a hug but returned it. "Okay, I'll be back soon."
"Remember to be safe," Caroline called after her and Davina loved the warm feeling in her chest.
It was nice to have someone genuinely care for her like a sister would and that was what she was beginning to see Caroline as.
She always wanted a big sister, and now she had one.
Marcel paced by the lake, a relieve breath leaving him at the sight of Davina approaching.
"What's so important that you couldn't have just talk to me on the phone?" Davina wondered.
"I can't have anyone overhearing." Marcel answered. "I need you to find someone for me with a locator spell. A witch."
"Why? What is this about?" Davina questioned.
"It's best you don't know the details. She is someone who is back from the dead. One of the witches that raised from the harvest." Marcel explained. "Her name's Genevieve and I can't stress how important it is that I find her."
Davina nodded. "Okay, I'll do it and once I have her location, I'll text you the address."
Marcel hugged her in thanks. "Thanks, D."
"Now, could you do a girl a favor and drop me off near the plantation? It's a full moon tonight and I don't want to be torn apart by the Bayou wolves."
Marcel grinned. "I got your back."
Marcel scooped Davina into his arms and vamped away.
It wasn't long before he was leaving her on the outskirts of the plantation and disappearing just as Josh was returning from the food run she sent him on.
Caroline sat on the porch swing with Davina and Josh.
Caroline moaned as she chewed on some curly fries. "So good."
"It sounds like you're enjoying them." Josh ginned and Davina smacked him, taking a sip of the soda he got her.
"Drink your blood, Joshy, before I do." Caroline threatened, eying his glass of blood.
"Joshy?" Josh repeated. "Yeah, nope. Don't call me that."
"I don't know, it's got a ring to it," Davina teased.
Caroline looked up as she heard the sound of multiple branches snapping. Setting her food aside, she stood and walked forward slowly, her hand gripping the bannister.
"What is it?" Davina asked, alarmed, moving to stand beside Caroline.
"Should I go get someone?" Josh pointed his thumb behind toward the house.
"No," Caroline said, watching as olf after wolf walked from the treelines.
"Their not from Klaus's pack, are they?" Davina asked.
"No," Caroline said as she watched the wolves shift back into their human states. "This is the Cresent pack. Hayley's pack."
Davina turned away at the naked males while Josh blushed.
"Josh, go get some clothes. Lots of clothes. Ask some of the others for help."
Josh nodded and vamped away as Caroline waited. None of the wolves approached, but their eyes left her.
Caroline didn't know what to expect. She didn't know if they were angry about Hayley. Didn't know how they were take to Klaus' pack, her pack.
Zach quickly joined her on the porch as a vaguely familiar wolf walked out from the trees.
Zach immediately stepped in front of Caroline.
However, Caroline recognized the wolf. It was the same wolf that was following Hayley around previously.
"Zach, it's okay. I don't think he's here to hurt me." Caroline said, looking at the golden eye werewolf.
Zach stepped aside, but his eyes never left the wolf.
"Klaus bites his own hand and lets the blood drip into a goblet.
"You've gotta be kidding me." Kieran complained.
"A vampire is trying to reverse a witch's hex placed on you, and it's the cup you find sacrilegious." Klaus commented.
Kieran cuts his hand.
"Are you sure this is going to work?" Cami questioned.
"Not remotely." Klaus answered. "But I can't attempt to use my compulsion to counter Bastianna's curse if the good Father has vervain in his system. Thus, we bleed him out. I never said this would be pleasant. If you can't stomach, you are free to leave."
"Just do what you have to do," said Cami, shooting him a glare. She wasn't going to abandon her uncle in his time of need.
Caroline watched as the familiar wolf shifted back. He was tall with dark hair, and black facial hair. He was handsome and broad shoulder with blue eyes.
"Is it true?" He asked, his voice deep. "Are the rumors about Hayley true?"
"Depends what you've heard." Zach said, tossing clothes down to the wolves.
The naked pack got dressed as more of Caroline's people filtered out of the house at the new arrivals surrounding Caroline.
"That she made a deal with some witches, stole a pregnancy all in the name of finding her pack." The dark-haired male answers.
"She's done more than that." Caroline grumbled. "She's manipulated and deceived everyone since I met her. As long as she gets what she wants, she doesn't care who she has to sacrifice. Hayley only cares about herself."
"Are you saying that because it's true or because she stole from you something that should never be taken from a mother?" The man asked. He wasn't challenging her. He seemed to genuinely want to know.
"I say it because I've seen her do it. She sacrifice the life of 12 hybrids all so she could get the names of her parents. Then to come here to New Orleans and steal babies that weren't hers in the name of her pack. It's fucking disgusting." Caroline said venomously. "No one who has morals would ever want to be associated with her."
"And who are you to speak of a wolf who is trying to find her place in a city full of your kind? You're a vampire or how you've forgotten with the wolf company you keep." a blonde broad shoulder wolf accused.
"She is a vampire." Zach declared. "And she is a member of my back. She has as much loyalty in her as any wolf. She cares for those around her without an agenda. The same can't be said for Hayley. I would be ashamed to have her share blood with my pack."
The dark-haired male smiled then. "Let us see for ourselves the loyalty you possess. Show us you are better than her. Welcome us back to the Quarter."
"I know of your curse," Caroline said. "I don't know if it can be undone, but I am willing to help where I can and as for welcoming you back to the Quarter..I'm not going to do that."
The blonde wolf scowled, and Caroline held her hand up for him to be quiet.
"I don't have to welcome you back to the Quarter because you are not prisoners. Every wolf here is free, there is no confinement to the bayou. You want to be free, then take it. I will help. No one here will be unjustifiably prosecuted. You can stay here and be with your pack or you can take your pack to the French Quarter and start new lives. Hell, if you want, you could become a part of Zach's pack."
"What's the catch?" The dark man asked. "You say we are free, but at what cost?"
"There is no catch." Caroline stepped down the steps to stand within reach of the wolves, watching as more came out of the trees. "For the longest time, I let others dictate my life, cared about their opinions, but when I took control of what I wanted of what I did, everything was different. I was different, and I became someone I like. Strong and fearless. I am free. You can be too. Take control of your choices, of your life, of who you want to be. No excuses."
"It's that easy?"
"It can be, and we will support you." Caroline held her hand out. "You are welcome here among us. Think about what I said, hell get to know the pack before you make the decision. None of us are going anywhere. Take tonight and be human, be anything you want and if, at the end of the night, you decide you want to take back control. I'll help you."
The dark-haired male took her hand and shook it. "One night." He agreed.
Caroline grinned then. "There're clothes in the house. Help yourself. Also, food and drinks. Make yourself at home."
"Jackson," the dark hair man said. "I'm Jackson and this is Oliver."
"It's nice to meet you." Caroline said. She looked at Oliver, who was still looking at her with this look of disdain. "Maybe,"
Jackson whistled and more wolves walked out from the trees.
Caroline motioned for them to follow her inside and, with the help of Stefan, brought them sets of clothes.
Caroline was thankful that The Mikaelson's had multiple walk-in closets to choose from.
Davina took the time while everyone was busy with the new wolves arrivals to return to her assign room and did the spell Marcel ask for.
After receiving the location for the witch that Marcel was looking for, she sent him off a text before rejoining everyone.
Caroline was in a circle of wolves, and Davina bit back a laugh.
Marcel and Klaus walked around declaring to be king of the Quarter and here Caroline was effortlessly holding Court with the wolves, in a house that had a few vampires.
She looked like a queen surrounded by her royal subjects.
As the hour grew late, Stefan and Caroline led Zach's pack into a large room that was meant to be for entertaining guest.
Davina had spelled bound the room. No wolf would be able to leave it and on top of that she made a sleeping potion for them all to drink. Hopefully, it would last until morning.
Zach didn't feel comfortable leaving Caroline with a bunch of wolves on her own and made Stefan promise to not let anything happen to her.
Zach threatening to chew him like a chew toy if he failed.
Stefan bit back to the sarcastic response that he knew and cared for Caroline a lot longer than Zach.
Stefan was left to wonder if Caroline knew the loyalty she was inspiring in others.
If Klaus wasn't careful, he would lose the control to Caroline. She was a leader by nature and she gained more followers by the day. More and more like Zach ready to follow her into the depths of hell, if she so much as she asked.
Rebekah glared down at the large pan she was steering with a spoon on the stove, holding her cell phone to her ear, her agitation growing when she reached Marcel's voicemail.
"So help me God, Marcel. If you don't call me back with an update, I will kill you myself." She threatened.
She needed to know if he handled their Genevieve problem. If he didn't she might just have to come clean to Klaus with any luck, her honesty would carry some weight.
Rebekah felt eyes on her and turned to see the wolf, Oliver, in nothing but a pair of jeans, leaning in the doorway, watching her with heated eyes.
"Oh. I beg your pardon. I was expecting someone... furrier." Rebekah said, thrown by how attractive he was.
"You're one of them, aren't you? An Original?" Oliver asked.
"Yes. You might want to say that with some more respect." Rebekah warned. "I suppose you'll be wanting to speak with Caroline."
"Or I could just talk to you. I'm Oliver." he introduced himself. "I didn't catch your name."
"I'm Rebekah. Caroline, more of your guests have invaded the house!" She called out, not looking away from Oliver.
Stefan appeared in the doorway. "Oliver, why don't you join your pack? I believe your leader Jackson is talking matters with Caroline as we speak."
Oliver reluctantly left the kitchen, and Stefan looked at Rebekah in amusement. "Some things never change."
Rebekah's eyes narrowed on him. "What is that supposed to mean?"
Stefan stepped forward and brushed her hair back.
Rebekah's breath caught in her throat as Stefan's fingers brushed her neck.
"Your driven by your lust." Stefan's eyes were dark on hers.
Rebekah swallowed. "I like to think of myself as someone who is driven by their desires. Passionate."
Stefan smiled. "You'll get no arguments from me. Need some help." he nodded at the pan cooking on the stove. "I'm pretty good at cooking, surprisingly enough."
Rebekah stepped back, and he brushed by her. She breathes deeply, watching as he took over, uncertain by the sudden charge she felt being alone with him again.
The plantation garden is lit by hundreds of candles and lights, music is playing, the Crescent werewolves are all around.
Oliver starts dancing with Rebekah. "Come on, you can do better than that!"
"Sorry, I've got a burdened brain tonight." Rebekah replies.
"No, no, no, no, no, no. Tonight is not the night for burdens." Oliver protested. "It's to celebrate. It's to enjoy life for the few hours that we get to live it. It's to hug our friends, our family and to dance our asses off."
"Stare any harder and maybe one of them will drop dead." Caroline said from beside Stefan.
Stefan looked at her. "I wasn't staring."
"There was some definite staring going on. Or more like glaring."
Stefan looked away.
"If I didn't know better, I would say you were jealous."
Stefan said nothing.
"It's strange how being here, not having to live up to expectations, can make you be honest with how you feel and what you want." Caroline touched his arm. "It doesn't have to be a bad thing. It wasn't for me."
Stefan looked at her again. "I don't know what I am feeling."
"Then try to find out." Caroline encourages before heading into the house just as Katherine pass by her, ignoring Nadia's insistence that she needed to be in bed.
Stefan was considering following Caroline's advice when Katherine steamed rolled over him and dragged him over by the fire to dance with her.
She had a bottle of whiskey in her hand and was encouraging Stefan to drink with her.
Caroline made her way toward the study, looking for a book to keep her occupied.
She turned when she felt another presence in the room and turned to see Jackson watching her from the doorway.
"Sorry to interrupt, but I wanted to apologize to you."
Caroline looked at him, puzzled. "For what?"
"Hayley. Everything she did was to find her pack and, in a way, I feel responsible. What she did to you should never have happened."
"Hayley's actions are no one's fault but her own." Caroline paused, observing him. "You were the wolf always watching her."
"I had to keep my eye on her. There's history there." said Jackson.
"I wasn't aware you really knew each other." Caroline confessed.
"Mine and Hayley's parents knew each other. They were of the same people, but not the same bloodline." Jackson explained. "Now, you know how pack hierarchy works, right? Everybody has their part to play, and... Hayley and I had our part, too."
"What part was that?" asked Caroline.
"She was supposed to be my wife." Jackson informed her.
"I feel like this just got awkward." Caroline said, considering she had Hayley locked away and tortured her on a regular basis, since finding out about her treachery.
Sabine and Elijah are walking through the streets of the French Quarter.
"So this next part of town is one of the few areas where any of the original French architecture remains. The most of the buildings were destroyed in the seventeen hundreds when the city burned for the first time." Sabine explained. "Am I putting you to sleep?"
"As surprising as you might find this, it's not every day that someone asks you to betray your own brother…" said Elijah. "Celeste."
"How did you know?" asked Celeste, not surprised he had figured her out.
"As Davina was drawing your likeness, I dared to imagine that your presence was near. And when Sophie discovered that there was no magic in your remains, I wondered – could you have possibly cheated death by using your power to place your essence into the body of another? And if so, then who? And then I recalled the lovely Sabine." Elijah responded.
"Are you continuing to follow me, Eljiah, or do you wanna talk?" asked Sabine.
"You know who I am." Elijah replied.
"Original vampire, always wears a suit." Replied Sabine.
"Your visions of my brother's child precipitated the death of the last elder within your coven…" said Elijah.
"Tell them what you saw." Agnes insisted.
Celeste chanted.
Elijah kills Agnes.
"Ensuring that the Harvest ritual could not be completed – unless you were to control it. You have been playing a very long game indeed. But to what end?" Elijah questioned.
Celeste steps closer and kisses Elijah. "Oh, Elijah, my lost love... After all this time, don't you understand? I died because of Klaus. And even after all his vindictive lies about witches led to my death, you stood by him. All because of your vow – "Always and forever.""
Elijah starts feeling dizzy. "What have you done to me?"
"Oh, it's a simple enchantment. You needn't worry. I'm not here to kill you, Elijah. I'm here to teach you the error of your ways. "Always and forever" was the greatest mistake of your life." Her words were filled with bitterness and anger.
Elijah falls to the ground.
Klaus hands Kieran the goblet where he laid in the bed of Davina's old room in St. Anne's church.. "Drink up. It will heal your wound."
Kieran drinks Klaus' blood.
"I think you've suffered enough." said Klaus and compels him. "You will overcome what the witches did to you. You will resist the dark urges of their hex."
"Did it work?" Cami questioned.
"How do I know if it worked?" asked Kieran. "All I know is that the vervain is out and I'm at the mercy of this murderous bastard. I bet you find that really funny, don't you, Cami, you little–" He looks shocked as he realizes what he said. "I'm sorry. I don't know why I said that."
"Well, I guess that's our answer." said Klaus.
"Wait, Klaus!" Cami called after him. "Where are you going? What are we going to do?"
"I'm gonna find the witch who did this, and then I'm gonna do what I do best." Klaus informed her.
"Monique Deveraux,"
Monique was walking down a main street, but turned. "Klaus Mikaelson, what do you want?"
"Well, at first I wanted a witch to do a locator for me so I can find a hexing witch," he smirked. "But who needs a locator spell when I have all the leverage I need right here?" He grabs Monique and disappears.
Elijah is crouching on the ground, breathing heavily. "You poisoned me with a kiss. At least you haven't lost your sense of irony."
"We may have time for more." said Celeste. "But first I'm going to cure you of your greatest flaw – this absurd devotion to your lunatic family."
"Your anger is with me." Said Elijah. "Now, if you have come here seeking revenge–"
"Oh, I'll have my revenge." Celeste cut him off. "Starting with Klaus. He is gonna know pain and torment like he's never felt before. Unless you choose to save him, of course. But then that leaves Rebekah, your tragic sister. She's about to find herself in quite the predicament. You could save her. But then that leaves Caroline in jeopardy."
"No. No, no…" Elijah protested, fear for his family and Caroline and the children she carried inside of her.
"Poor girl. Caroline has no idea how dangerous it is to be a member of your family, one who is much easier to kill." said Celeste in mock sympathy. "Oh well. With your body weakened by my spell, you won't be able to save them all. You'll recover with just enough time to choose one. Who will it be? I can't wait to find out."
Klaus walks through the streets of the French Quarter with Monique Deveraux in tow. "Witches of the French Quarter! I have with me Monique Deveraux. What a shame it would be were I forced to send her back to the death she's just escaped! Should you wish to prevent this, bring me the witch, Bastianna!"
"The hell you think you're doing?" Marcel demanded.
"I'm opening negotiations." Responded Klaus, unsurprised by Marcel's arrival.
"You know my rules. We do not hurt kids." Said Marcel.
"Spare me the hypocrisy of your moral code. It didn't stop you from killing Monique's mother." Klaus reminded him. "Bastianna! I know you're close. The stench of witches hangs in the air. Mark my words! I will end this girl with the very blade you meant for me."
"I'm not saying it again. We do not kill kids." Marcel said firmly.
Klaus holds the blade near Monique's throat. Marcel vampire speeds up to him. They start to fight. Within the fight, Klaus loses the blade. Klaus breaks Marcel's neck.
"I decide who lives and dies here, Marcellus." Klaus sneered.
Suddenly Nadia Petrova appears with the blade in her hand. She sticks it into Klaus' chest, where it immediately starts to slide towards his heart. Klaus starts screaming in pain.
"I'll take it from here." said Bastianna, announcing her arrival.
Nadia said nothing and simply walked away. If Sophie failed to save her mother, forming alliances with the witches would ensure the survival of her mother, and that was all she wanted.
"You have Hayley locked away." Jackson repeated.
"Considering her actions, no punishment is too harsh," Caroline said darkly. "Look, talking about Hayley is only going to piss me off. Why don't you tell me why your pack stayed exiled to the Bayou instead of going somewhere else?"
"New Orleans used to be our town, and we lost it all because of some infighting. The vampires came after us, and if Hayley's family and my family were united, we could've taken them. So our parents decided to bring the two lines back together." Jackson informed her. "I stuck around because of her. Sorry, I know you said you didn't want to keep talking about Hayley, but that's why I was never able to bring myself to leave."
"Sucks for you that Hayley wasn't the person you expected her to be." Caroline said.
"Look, obviously, things didn't work out the way anyone thought they would. Our pack made a huge misstep with the vampires when we refused to back down, and Marcel had us cursed by a witch." said Jackson. "I didn't anticipate Klaus's pack or you for that matter. You earned the loyalty of a pack that wasn't known for trust. You inspire loyalty. These people will follow you given the chance to know you. You can help them, help us. You're helping us break our curse and doing that ensures our loyalty to you, despite the fact that you're a vampire."
"What are you talking about?" Caroline questioned.
"Your witch friend. She told Eve she was coming here tonight to set us free." said Jackson.
"Wait, what witch friend?" asked Caroline, confused. Davina would have told her and Bonnie was in Mystic Falls. He had to be mistaken.
Rebekah and Oliver are kissing somewhere in the woods, away from the wolves.
"I'm sorry." Oliver apologized. "I really like you, but this is the deal we made."
"What deal?" asked Rebekah, confused. "With whom?"
Some wolves appear, growling and baring their teeth.
Bastianna, Celeste and Genevieve are at the Cemetery, chanting a spell.
Elijah's lying on the ground. His phone starts buzzing. He awakens, still breathing heavily.
"Caroline." Elijah spoke her name into the phone.
"Elijah, something's going on with the witches." Said Caroline. She had tried calling Klaus, but he wasn't picking up and it was worrying. He always picked up for her.
Something was wrong. She could feel it. .
"Listen to me. You were right. Celeste is back." Elijah told her. "Niklaus, Rebekah – you're all in danger."
At the plantation house, the door claps shut by a gust of wind.
"What's going on?" asked Jackson.
"It's a trap. I didn't make a deal with any witch." Caroline informed him. "No surprise there. The witches really have it out for me."
"What?" replied Jackson.
"Caroline, you have to find Rebekah. You stay with her until I get there. Niklaus would never forgive any of us if something were to happen to you." Elijah told her.
The house is catching fire.
"Elijah, it's a spell. They're trapping us inside." Caroline told him, her mind immediately going to her pack that were spelled into a room to keep them from hurting anyone during the full moon tonight.
The three witches continue chanting. At the plantation, flames erupt all around the house as the doors and windows slam shut.
"You know what to do." said Celeste.
Bastianna and Genevieve leave.
Caroline rushed from the room, kicking the door off the hinges. She rushed up the stairs, searching first for Davina just as the girl appeared in the hallway.
"Something's wrong!" Davina rushed to Caroline.
"Witches, they sealed the house and are trying to burn it." Caroline rushed out. "Where's Josh?"
"Outside with Stefan. Stefan was trying to convince him to go on a bunny diet or something." Davina answered.
"Okay, that's good." Caroline said. Her mind went to Katherine, and she was glad the she-devil went outside earlier. She was safe. She could barely keep tabs on Nadia. She came and went as she pleased.
Caroline's eyes widened. "Oh, God!"
What is it?" Jackson asked, having followed Caroline.
"The pack." Caroline flashed away to the large room, they sealed the wolves in. Gripping the handle, she rips it away, sending it crashing against the wall behind her.
The pack was transformed into their wolf forms, their paws scraping across the floor as they scratched and clawed, angry growls rumbling from their chest.
"Caroline," Davina pulled her back. "You can't do anything for them."
"Let them out." Jackson said.
"I can't. If I take down the spell, they will tear into every vampire here tonight. Josh, Stefan." Davina looked at Caroline. "You,"
"I don't care." Caroline said, surprising Jackson. "I am not going to let a part of my family burn to death. Take down the spell, Davina."
"Caroline," Davina shook her head. "You don't know what you're asking of me."
"Yes, I do, but I am not going to put my life before theirs. Take it down." Caroline ordered. "You have to take it down."
Davina nodded, seeing in Caroline's eyes she wasn't going to leave without them, and already she could smell the smoke and feel it polluting the air as she breathed it in. The house was growing hot.
Davina started chanting. The second the spell was down, a wolf burst from the room.
Jackson grabbed Davina and pulled her behind him.
A second wolf burst out, slamming into Caroline, knocking her to the floor.
Caroline landed roughly, her head hitting against the wall. The wolf climbed over her, his teeth bared and snapping at her.
"Caroline!" Davina screamed.
"Stay back." Caroline said and tried not to move before she could react further. Another wolf tackled the wolf on her away, his teeth snapping around its neck until it gave a pain whine submitting.
That same wolf came to Caroline's side and nudge her with his muzzle, urging her to move and get up.
Caroline stood cautiously as all the wolves had escaped, running from the house except for two.
Caroline looked down at him and she couldn't explain it, but looking at him, his protectiveness, she knew instinctively who it was. "Zach."
He nodded and moved behind her, pushing forward, telling her to get moving.
Caroline grabbed Davina's hand and flashed down the stairs.
The fire was spreading rapidly as Caroline return to the room with the large windows. The wolves charged them but they wouldn't break. Jackson picked up a chair and slammed it against the window. The chair shattered while the window remained strong.
Hearing Davina begins to cough earnestly, making difficult for her to cast a counter spell, Caroline pours water from a vase of flowers onto a towel and hands it to Davina. "Here. Breathe through this."
Davina coughs. The fire gains size. Suddenly a window shatters. It's Elijah, fighting his way through the fire. He moves to grab Caroline, and she waves him off. "Get Davina out of here."
Reluctantly, he lifts Davina into his arms and through the window.
Caroline looked at the wolves, at Zach. "On three. One, two, three."
Together Zach and Caroline jumped through the window, the rest of the pack and Jackson following.
"Where's Rebekah?" Elijah asked Caroline.
"I don't know. She went off with one of them." Caroline answered. "I don't know where Stefan is either or Katherine."
Rebekah's lying on the forest floor with numerous wolf bites all over her body. Dead wolves are lying around. Someone steps closer – it's Genevieve.
"Help me." said Rebekah.
"It's been such a long time, Rebekah." said Genevieve. "I'm going to enjoy this."
Stefan laid on the ground, his back twisted at a nasty angle, blood leaking from his ears and closed eye sockets, unconscious on the forest floor, his hand laid against the ground as if he had been reaching for someone.
A trail of blood scattered across the forest leaves.
Later, Rebekah is gone, and Elijah takes a look at the dead wolves. He finds a black jacket, which he picks up.
Celeste appears, followed by the other two witches. "Missing something? You won't hurt me. I'm the only one alive who can break the curse on the Crescent wolves. And Genevieve knows where your sister is, where you're precious Katerina is. Bastianna has Klaus tucked away some place safe. He's suffering horribly, I might add. And all because you chose to save Caroline instead of your own blood. She is all I need now to make every single one of you suffer."
When Elijah walks towards her purposefully, she uses magic to bring him to his knees, screaming.
"What a horrific ending to your pathetic, diseased family." Celeste sneered. "I guess "always" isn't forever, after all."
Caroline stood in front of the burning house, wolves surrounding her. Jackson stood nearby.
"I have to go. The moon." said Jackson, indicating that his time as a man was almost up. "I understand it now."
"Understand what?" Caroline asked, doing a head count of her pack, sighing in relief that they were all here and non wolves ones as well, Davina beside her.
"Why they follow you." said Jackson. "You are willing to put yourself in danger for them."
"That's what you do for family." said Caroline.
"But you're not family." Jackson argued.
"Family doesn't end in blood. It's deeper than that." Caroline corrected. "If you want, I will try to help your pack and what you do with freedom after that is up to you."
"Even after what Hayley did to you?" Jackson asked.
"To hell with Hayley. I don't blame you for her actions. No one should suffer a curse that isn't their fault."
Davina stepped forward. "I will do everything I can to help. I know better than anyone what it's like to have your fate out of your hands."
Jackson looked between the two and leaves with a departing nod.
Cami and Kieran leave a building, stepping out into an alley. Cami is calling Klaus. "Come on, come on, come on. Klaus, where are you?"
Bastianna is standing near them. "Mr. Mikaelson is currently indisposed."
"What happened? What did you do?" Cami demanded.
"I did nothing." Bastianna answered. "Someone completed your task for you."
"If you got what you wanted, then my uncle–" Cami started.
"Will die soon and in great anguish." Bastianna interrupted. "You see, dear, you failed to hold up your end of our bargain. You chose instead to side with evil as your uncle has done many times before you. But take heart. His punishment will atone for his attempts to prevent the Harvest. His suffering will purify him. You'd do well to heed his lesson, girl. To oppose us is to oppose the natural order. By choice or by force, the witches of the French Quarter will rise again."
Marcel is surrounded by some of his guys in the courtyard.
"We've looked everywhere for him. Tore apart the cauldron, the city of the dead. Wherever they got him, he ain't in the French Quarter." Diego informed him.
"MARCEL!" Elijah charges toward them. "Where is my brother?"
"I got guys out looking for him right now." Marcel told him.
Elijah starts throwing vampires against the walls.
"Elijah!" Caroline exclaimed, arriving with her vamp speed. "Where is he?!"
"Klaus threw one of his classic temper tantrums, snapped my neck, tried to take on a coven of witches by himself." Marcel recounted events. "He got dropped. I don't know where he is or how to find him."
Caroline felt her heart dropped into her stomach. Klaus was gone. This could not be happening.
"They also have Rebekah and Katerina. Every one of you will help me to find them. I'm gonna kill them all." Elijah declared to the vampires gathered.
Caroline looked at him, and he nodded at her. He would make sure they returned every member of their family to them.
Monique felt the bricks biting sharply into her back. Her feet dangled off the ground as Nadia's hand wrapped around her throat.
"Where is my mother?" she hissed.
Monique stared at her without fear even as she struggled to breathe.
"Answer me," Nadia said.
"You and your mother chose the side of the Mikaelson's. You made your bed." Monique's eyes were cold.
"I chose to ally myself with witches because I had no other choice. I can't help my mother's connection with the Mikaelsons." Nadia defended.
"We are not a last resort." Monique snapped.
Nadia felt a blinding pain in her skull and dropped her. "What are you doing?"
"No vampire is an ally of mine." Monique said. "The four of us, when we return, we'll have enough power to rid this city of vampires, and we'll kill anyone who doesn't keep the faith. Including my aunt Sophie."
"What about Davina? She is not one of you." Nadia said through the pain.
"She was and she will be again." Monique waved her hand, snapping Nadia's neck.
Monique turned and Celeste, Genevieve, and Bastianna were waiting for her. She joined them to walk down the street.
The witches had won tonight, and they knew it.
Caroline stood those around her solely focused on her. There was Elijah, Stefan, Davina, Josh, Marcel and his guys, Zach and the pack, the vampires of the Quarter.
"Klaus was right in saying that the witches have declared war on us." Caroline's voice was strong, carrying a confidence and authority in her voice that commanded everyone's attention.
"They have plotted and taken from us again and again and they won't stop. They will do whatever it takes to ensure they conquer all of us. I've experienced how far they're willing to go for their own gain. If we let them, they will come for every single one of us until only they remain and we cannot let that happen."
"Together, we can stop them. I intend to get Katherine, Rebekah and Klaus back." Caroline continued, her anger simmering at the surface, knowing the witches had Klaus.
Murmurs broke out among the vampires.
"I know there are more than a few of you who hold grudges against the Originals and Klaus. Hate how when they returned, they took over what you see as yours." Caroline looked at Marcel and his inner circle. "However, now is not the time for a petty turf war. I'm not asking you to forget your differences are your anger. I am asking that you work with me to face down an immediate threat that is targeting every single one of us."
"If you choose to stand against me, that is your choice. I don't care. I will get Klaus back no matter the cost, I promise you, but we have a better chance at winning this fight by being united in a common enemy."
Caroline stepped forward, locking eyes with everyone in the room. "Will you stand with me?"
Zach and the wolves stepped forward without a moment's hesitation. "I speak for the entire pack when I say we will follow you anywhere. We know exactly where our loyalties lie, and it will always be with you."
Caroline stepped forward to stand with them. "Do you stand with us or will you wait for the witches to come for you next?" Caroline looked at the vampires.
Elijah and Stefan moved to stand with Caroline.
Josh looked at Marcel and then moved to stand with Caroline.
Davina reached for Caroline's hand.
Marcel watched, and after a moment, moved to stand with her, and the vampires joined him.
"Whose going to tell Klaus that New Orleans no longer has a King but a Queen?"
"I don't care who runs this damn city. I just want to get our people back and I will get them back." Caroline declared determinedly.
Caroline knew she would do whatever it took to get Klaus back. Damn everyone and everything else.
She wouldn't rest until she could feel him next to her.
The witches were not going to win the war if she had anything to say about it.
