Chapter XIV.
Last Time.
Yang then fires a shot at Roman, but Neopolitan drops down in front of him and completely blocks it with her lace umbrella Hush. Roman calls upon Neo, who takes a slow bow. The team regroups before Yang rushes forward to punch Neo, who moves to block the attack with her umbrella.
"Ladies, gentleman… Ice Queen."
"Hey!"
"Always a pleasure. Neo, if you would."
Yang makes to strike Neo, only for a cyan wall to appear for a split second, and the wall, Neo, and Roman appear to shatter like glass. The shards collapse to the ground and Yang looks around for her enemies, only to see them already escaping in a Bullhead.
"Damn it!" Naruto cursed before spinning his pistols and then puts them in his holsters. "(Sigh) Guess we should head back." He said walking up to the others.
Now.
Beacon Academy.
Naruto sat beside his team before turning to the stage to see Pyrrha standing in front of Cardin with low lights surrounding them. She suddenly strikes Cardin who tries to counter only to hit her shield before getting driven back. He falls to one knee and then rolls to dodge as she comes down from above. Eventually, Pyrrha launches her spear at Dove Bronzewing and then knocks him down.
Next, she fires a shot at Sky Lark and then blocks Feather's Edge with her shield. Switching from sword to spear and driving him back, firing another shot before knocking Sky to the ground. She attacks Cardin again who unleashes a short column of fire from the red Dust crystal in The Executioner by smashing the floor. She dodges the blast and then blocks Cardin's swing before he and Sky attempt to double-team Pyrrha.
Only for her to avoid them both before vaulting over Cardin. Pyrrha throws her shield, which hits Cardin in the face, and bounces back to hit Sky as well. She then flips back through the air to catch it then lands on Sky, incapacitating him. Dove and Russel rush her together, but she drove them back. Kicking Dove away who manages to recover, landing on his feet as Cardin leaps in to smash at her with his mace.
Pyrrha dodges and opens fire with the rifle-form of Miló, but Russel defends Cardin, deflecting every shot with Shortwings. He and Dove charge at Pyrrha, with Russel leaping into the air and performing a triple somersault. However, the double-kick attack is easily blocked with her shield. Russel and Dove proceed to strike at Pyrrha together.
She falls back still managing to parry every blow, as Cardin attempts to capitalize on the distraction. Pyrrha opens fire again but this time Cardin deflects the bullets with his weapon. He charges at her only to be met with a knee to the chin, the two clash with Cardin receiving several hits. Russel ducks in under Cardin for a surprise attack, but also proves himself unable to wear her down.
Pyrrha dodges every slash and then hits him with her shield, Dove moves in after Russel is knocked to the ground. After a couple of deflected swipes, he fires on her with Hallshott, but she goes right through using her shield. Dove was then knocked out of the fight by an errant swing from Cardin, who moves in for another assault.
Pyrrha knocks Cardin into the air and then leaps after him. Cardin blocks a few hits but she quickly maneuvers herself to slam him into the ground.
"And that's the match."
Lights came on showing they were on the stage for fighting as Glynda walked up to them as the other students watched from the seats in their Hunter clothes. "(Groan!) Lucky shot." Cardin said before falling on his side. "Ugh."
"Well done, Miss Nikos. You should have no problem qualifying for the tournament." Glynda praised the redhead who nodded with a smile.
"Thank you, professor."
Glynda then tapped her scroll at that. "Alright, now I know that's a tough act to follow, but we have time for one more sparring match. Any volunteers?"
"I'll go." Naruto raised his hand and then flipped over the railing and landed in a crouch.
"Ms. Belladonna?" Glynda asked Blake who slams the book she was reading shut and stares wide-eyed at Glynda. "You've been rather docile for the past few classes. Why don't you-!"
"I'll do it." Mercury raised his hand at that.
"Mercury, is it? Very well."
Mercury struts into the arena, visibly sizing up Naruto. Their spar begins when he makes the first attack and is knocked down. Recovering quickly, he deflects an attack from Naruto and kicks him. Naruto catches the kick and then leans under it before jumping p to kick Mercury in the back of the head for a Pele kick.
"Look out!"
Naruto heard a voice in his head before rolling out of the way of a stomp. "Use your knee!"
Naruto brought his knee up to hit Mercury's chin before jumping back from another kick. Naruto saw barrels around his shin, showing his weapon was similar to Shiki's. "Focus!"
Naruto jumped over another kick before spinning for one of his own having Mercury jump back. They continued throwing punches and kicks for several minutes before Mercury forfeited having Naruto look at him in confusion. As they all left, Naruto sighed before an image of red-slitted eyes appeared in his mind for a second.
Team RWBY Dorm Room.
Upon returning to the dorms, the others talk to Blake, insisting that she goes to the dance, citing their concern over her not sleeping and barely eating. Blake insists that figuring out what Torchwick and the White Fang are up to is more important than school. They mention they have already learned that the White Fang are operating out of Southeast Vale and that Vale has been the primary target of Dust robberies, but Blake is not satisfied.
Weiss Schnee and Yang Xiao Long push for Blake to relax for at least the night of the dance and state that they can resume their search once they are rested. However, Blake refuses, calling the dance a waste of time, and leaves the room.
Rooftop.
On the roof of the Beacon Academy dorms later that night, Pyrrha and Jaune spar. Jaune has improved a lot since arriving at Beacon but is hesitant to begin training in Aura use, despite Pyrrha's assurance that he will soon discover his Semblance. Jaune is too distracted by Weiss' rejection to concentrate, to which Pyrrha responds by urging him to ask someone else to the dance.
He claims that someone as popular as Pyrrha could never understand the rejection he has to face, sarcastically saying that if she does not arrive with a date to the dance he will wear a dress. As he heads back inside the building, Pyrrha frowns to herself. She turns around to look at the school, not noticing the door opening.
"Oh, Pyrrha?"
She turned to see Naruto standing at the door as it closed. "What's wrong?"
"I-It's nothing."
"Come on, we're friends, you can tell me," Naruto said walking over.
"It's… It's the dance."
"Oh?"
"Yeah, I'm not sure I'll be going."
Naruto blinked at that. "Really? Can't dance?"
"No… (Sigh). I've been blessed with incredible talents and opportunities. I'm constantly surrounded by love and praise, but when you're placed on a pedestal like that for so long, you become separated from the people that put you there in the first place. Everyone assumes I'm too good for them. That I'm on a level they simply can't attain. It's become impossible to form any sort of meaningful relationship with people."
Naruto shrugged at that. "Wanna go to the dance with me?"
"W-What?"
"Yeah, I mean I'm not much of a dancer so I been going back and forth on going… So, you wanna go?" Naruto asked with a smile.
Later, Naruto was walking back to his dorm before looking up to the sky and bumped into something soft on his chest. Pulling back, he saw Yang smiling as her chest jiggled slightly as Naruto stepped back. "Hey, Naruto."
"Hey, Yang."
"I was wonderin'… Did you want to go to the dance?" Yang asked as Naruto rubbed the back of his head.
"I… Asked Pyrrha."
"Oh," Yang said, dejection in her voice as Naruto looked at her.
"Yeah, she's never gone to one before."
Yang blinked at that. "Really?"
"Yeah, she said since she started tournaments and got famous, guys either think she intimidating… Or a stuck-up bitch who let her fame go to her head."
"Well, it's nice that you're taking her then."
"I can save a dance for you. I have great stamina so I'll be ready."
"I bet you say that to all the ladies," Yang said with a grin before crossing her arms under her bust pushing them up and exposing a little more cleavage.
Naruto tilted his head at that before realization dawned on him. "I did not mean it like that."
"Sure ya didn't~" She sang before elbowing him. "I'll wear my sexiest dress for you." She said before turning to walk away, pulling her hair out of the way so Naruto could stare at her short shorts-covered ass before he continued walking away.
The Next Day.
Team RWBY minus Blake got the ballroom ready for the party with Weiss making sure everything's perfect. Later, Yang goes to find Blake and talks to her alone in an empty classroom. Blake is still unwilling to stop her efforts in finding and stopping Torchwick and the White Fang, despite the protestations of her teammates. Yang tells her that she does not need to stop, merely slow down, and not let her obsession take over her life.
Yang explains that she and Ruby grew up in Patch, an island off the coast of Vale, while their father was a teacher at Signal Academy and their mother, a Huntress, would take on missions. One day, though, their mother did not return from a mission, leaving Yang, Ruby, and their father heartbroken. Yang then reveals that Ruby and Yang's father had lost another lover once before: Yang's biological mother, who had left shortly after her birth under mysterious circumstances.
Yang explains she became obsessed with finding her mother, to the extent that it took over her life entirely. And that one day, as a child, intent to follow a possible lead, Yang journeyed out with Ruby to a remote area, where they are unexpectedly attacked by Grimm. Exhausted from the journey, Yang was powerless to fight back, and both sisters would have died if not for the timely intervention of their uncle, who killed the beasts and saved the pair.
Yang confides that she still continues her search, but does not recklessly let her obsession drive her life, and urges Blake to do the same and calm down for just one night. Blake still resists, causing Yang to become angered. Yang claims that in her current state, Blake would not be able to fight her, let alone Torchwick.
Yang hugs Blake and asks her to slow down, not just for herself, but for the people she cares about then promises her a dance. Blake softens and agrees to slow down, following up on her partner's proposition.
Next Night.
In the ballroom with streamers hung through glass chandeliers, pink and blue balloons are everywhere, and students in dark suits and bright dresses are stepping with each other to the music between the white-clothed tables, Yang stood at the door in a white dress before Ruby came in. "Ooohh, you look beautiful!"
Ruby's wearing a short, red, sleeveless dress with a thick black sash around the waist and black trim along the bottom. The bodice of the dress is split vertically to the sash and laced with black lacing. The yoke of the dress is transparent mesh with an opaque collar and hem, as well as opaque lines connecting the collar to her shoulders, black stockings, and pumps.
Ruby groans as she looks distressed. "Can we have a serious talk about how Weiss fights in these?" She asks as she tries to maintain her balance as she walks to the podium.
Just then, Naruto in a black suit with an orange tie walked in with Pyrrha. She's a turtleneck sleeveless red dress with her back exposed.
Natsu just wore the jacket revealing his bare chest as a girl walked with him in a black dress.
She has brown eyes and shoulder-length blonde hair that is tied by black ribbons in a small ponytail to the right side of her head with the rest of the hair loose.
Haru walked in a blue suit with his date who was wearing a dark blue dress and is average in height.
She sports her brown locks in a short hairstyle, falling barely past her nape, with fringes running above her eyebrows. She also has a curvaceous body and large breasts with ELIE tattooed on her left arm.
And Shiki in a black suit walked in with his date wearing a red dress.
She is a young woman who has blue eyes, fair skin, and wavy ash-blonde hair that reaches to her waist, fashioned with a red clip on the left side of her head. A pair of triangle-shaped earrings hang from her ears along with a necklace displaying an image of a heart circling her neck.
They all took their dates to the dance floor, Naruto missing Yang checking him out. Naruto danced with Pyrrha as a slow song started before smiling at her.
Later, after dancing with not only Pyrrha but Team RWBY, Naruto walked out to get some air to cool down before seeing a woman in a black bodysuit and domino mask running along the rooftop. Narrowing his eyes, Naruto unbuttons his jacket before jogging after the woman. He saw her go into the communication tower before calling his locker.
After a minute, the locker landed and he picked his holster out leaving his rifle. Putting the belt on, Naruto took the revolvers out and walked inside. Looking around, he saw knocked-out guards before seeing the elevator floor light stop at the top. He walked over, got ion ad went to the top.
He got out into a computer room before looking around, bringing his guns up by his head. The woman then stood up from behind the desk. "You know… I'm sure you're not supposed to be here."
The woman just smiled before she uses Dust to form glass crystals and blasts them at Naruto with Aura. Naruto jumped back to fall on his back and retaliates by firing rounds at the woman. She blocks the rounds reminding Naruto of the fight he helped Ruby with before coming to school. "Oh, you're that woman from before. Been itching for a rematch!"
Naruto spun in a break-dance style to get back on his feet and fired at her again as the woman then summons her weapon, two blades that look like dark glass.
The woman dodges and forms a bow with the blades. She fires three arrows that explode on impact with the floor, pushing Naruto back.
Ding!
James Ironwood arrives at their floor in the elevator, and Cinder retreats when Naruto turns to address the new arrival.
Up ahead, the woman had her clothes changed to a black dress and removed her mask revealing Cinder who walked to the dance hall and started dancing with Mercury as the computer blinked with a black Queen chess piece before turning off.
Morning Ozpin's Office.
James and Glynda stood at the desk where Ozpin's sitting. "They were here… Ozpin, they were here!" James yelled as he angrily slams his fist against Ozpin's desk.
Glynda sighed at that. "We're very much aware of that! Thank you, James."
"Fantastic! You're aware! Now are we going to do something about it or should we just stay the course and continue to ignore what's right in front of us?!" James asked before a ding went off having them look to see Naruto in his Huntsman clothing with Fox Bolt over his shoulder.
"Sorry, it took so long… Natsu wouldn't leave me alone."
"Thank you for coming, Naruto. How are you feeling?"
Naruto shrugged at Ozpin's question. "Okay, I guess. I'd feel better if we got her."
James then walked over. "Naruto, I feel it's appropriate to let you know that I think what you did last night is exactly what being a Huntsman is all about. You recognized a threat. You took action. And you did the very best you could."
"Thank you, sir." Naruto nodded before Ozpin spoke.
"Now, the general here has already informed us of the events that... transpired last night, but now that you've rested, we were wondering if you had anything to add."
"Was anyone else with her? Did she look familiar to you at all?"
Naruto shook his head at that. "No… She was wearing a mask, and she never said anything to me. But I know she fought with glass. I don't think that was her Semblance, though. And her clothing lit up whenever she attacked."
Glynda looked down at that. "Save for the glass, that sounds like the woman I fought the night we met Ruby."
"Embedding Dust into clothing is an age-old technique. It could have been anyone." James sighed as he walked back to the desk
"I thought she was connected to Torchwick and the White Fang." Naruto sighed before speaking. "Blake told me there was a possible hideout in the Southeast… A tip she picked up on when going to that White Fang get-together if that helps."
"Thank you for your cooperation, Naruto. Why don't you go and spend some time with your team? You have a big day ahead of you."
"Naruto turned to leave at that. "Any time."
"And Mr. Uzumaki, please try and be… Discreet about this matter."
"Yes sir." Naruto nodded before getting in the elevator. Once going down, he saw Ruby in her Huntress clothes before speaking. "Hey, Ruby."
"Hi, Naruto. Was that about the woman you fought last night?"
"Yeah, it was the same woman we fought before joining the school." He replied having her eyes widen. "So be on the lookout for her or anyone acting suspiciously." He finished before walking away with her to the dorms.
