Chapter 4

Winterhold - Sundas 6 of Hearthfire of the 202 of the Fourth era

Asia watched in awe at the landscape that stretched out before her. The vast snowy fields reached the horizon, reflecting the midday sun. At that moment, she was traveling on a cart that Edzard had acquired to make the journey more comfortable. The days following their arrival in Windhelm had been hectic, especially because Edzard was suspected of being the possible perpetrator of the murders of Rolf and Angrenor. The accusations arose because some believed it was retaliation for Rolf's mistreatment of Asia. Fortunately, the charges were dropped when it was proven that Edzard had not left his house that night.

However, the fight he thought had gone unnoticed ended up becoming the town gossip, and it was only a matter of time before all of Skyrim knew what had happened.

Five days after that attempted arrest, Edzard and Asia left Windhelm for Winterhold. The journey was uneventful, with the only exception being an attack by a frost troll. Edzard dealt with the creature with a powerful lightning spell, and Asia witnessed the monster disintegrate into ashes.

"Asia, be careful." Edzard warned her as he saw her leaning dangerously over the cart's railing.

"But this way I can see the landscape better." Asia replied with a pout.

"If you fall, you could get sick." Edzard insisted.

Asia sighed and moved away from the railing. As she sat back down, a cold wind made her shiver and adjust her cloak more tightly. As she did so, her eyes fell on the small gold brooch that fastened the garment.

Flashback

Asia was sitting in Edzard's room, engrossed in reading a book. Although she knew she shouldn't be there, the best books in the house were in that room, and she couldn't resist sneaking in during his absence.

"Ahh… I finished this book." Asia sighed as she got up to return it to the shelf. Just as she was about to place it back, a voice broke the silence.

"I always wanted to know who was reading my books without me noticing." Edzard said with a smile as he saw her trying to discreetly put the volume back.

Asia froze, like a deer cornered by wolves. She hadn't expected Edzard to catch her, but there he was, looking at her with that mischievous smile.

"Ed… I… I…" she stammered, not knowing what to say.

With a telekinetic movement, Edzard snatched the book from her. Her surprise grew when she saw the cover.

'Nords of Skyrim. An interesting read…' he thought to himself.

"Why were you reading this book, Asia?"

"I wanted to learn more about your people…" she murmured, lowering her gaze, embarrassed for sneaking into his room.

Edzard sighed, walked to the shelf, and placed the book back. Then, with a gentle gesture, he placed a hand on Asia's head.

"If this is because of what I told you, don't worry. I already told you that xenophobia is very present in the old holds. Not all Nords are the same. Those from the west are more cosmopolitan." he said, smiling.

Asia nodded and turned to leave the room, but before crossing the door, Edzard called her.

"Wait, Asia. I have something for you."

Intrigued, she approached. Edzard took a small cloth package from his pocket, unwrapped it, and showed her a brooch. It was a gold disc with an engraved cross, and in the center shone a small emerald.

"Is it for me?" Asia asked, amazed.

"Yes. It will help you fasten your cloak better."

Asia took it excitedly and put it in her dress pocket before throwing herself into Edzard's arms with enthusiasm.

End of Flashback

"Asia!"

Edzard's shout pulled her out of her thoughts. Looking ahead, she saw that they had arrived at a village. Several houses were destroyed, though it was evident they were being repaired. In the distance, she saw that a wall was also being built.

"Ed, where are we?" Asia asked as she got off the cart.

"We are in Winterhold." he replied, signaling to some young men who were approaching.

When the young men arrived, they began unloading their belongings and carrying them to an imposing building.

"Ed, what is that castle?"

"It's the College of Winterhold." Edzard said.

"So, are we staying here?" Asia asked excitedly, as she had never been in a castle before.

"Yes. This time it won't be just for a few days." he replied. "We will stay for three weeks; I have many duties as Arch-mage that I need to resolve."

Asia smiled at the idea. Although she enjoyed traveling, she longed to stay in one place for a longer time.

They both began walking towards the college gates. When they finally arrived, Asia realized that the building was situated on a cliff, connected to the town by a bridge that seemed about to collapse. The college was a fortress composed of three towers connected by a wall. Two of the towers were circular, while the third, the largest, was square. They were separated by a wide circular courtyard.

As they crossed the bridge, Asia, fearful of the height and the state of the bridge, held Edzard's hand tightly, feeling a shiver as she saw the drop that awaited them if they stumbled.

Upon reaching the large college doors, Asia was impressed to see several people waiting. They all wore long robes, dark pants, and fur-lined boots. Both men and women wore the same attire, although the colors of the cloaks covering their shoulders varied.

An elderly man stepped forward from the group. His hair, white as snow, was combed back, and he had three braids on each side of his head, adorned with black leather ribbons at the ends. Additionally, he had heterochromia: his right eye was hazel, while the left was green. He wore the same robe as the others, but his cloak was a dark green.

"Welcome back, Arch-Mage." said the elderly man, bowing deeply, a gesture the others imitated.

"Thank you, Master Tolfdir. It's good to be back." Edzard replied with a smile.

"I see you've brought someone with you." Tolfdir commented, curious.

"Yes, but we'll talk about that in my study." Edzard said firmly. "The other masters may leave. I will inform you personally later."

The masters nodded and left the place.

Edzard took Asia's hand and guided her inside the complex. As they walked, Asia noticed an imposing statue in the courtyard of a person she did not recognize.

After climbing a staircase, they arrived at the Arch-Mage's quarters, found on the third floor of the central tower. The room was spacious, with shelves full of books, a large bed for two people, and even a small indoor garden.

While Edzard arranged their belongings, Asia approached the garden, amazed. She was intrigued by how it was possible to have one in that place, but what caught her attention the most were some light spheres floating around.

"Ed, those spheres look like the one you summoned when we met." Asia said, curious.

"It seems you've already seen Edzard in action." Tolfdir intervened, entering the room. He wore the same robes as always, but now carried a gray staff with a fire ornament at the top, in the center of which shone an amber gem.

Upon hearing him, Edzard approached, and they hugged, laughing like old friends.

"It's a pleasure to see you again, Ed." said Tolfdir, holding Edzard's shoulders with a smile.

"I'm also glad to see you, master." Edzard replied, smiling.

"And tell me, who is the young lady?" Tolfdir asked, looking at them mischievously. "Your new lover?"

Edzard and Asia blushed at the insinuation.

"No, we don't have that kind of relationship!" exclaimed Edzard, while Asia nodded quickly.

"Then why is she here?"

"It's a long story, so I suggest you sit down and get comfortable."

The three of them sat at a nearby table, where Edzard introduced Asia and began to recount what had happened in Solstheim: how he had met her and the origin of the young woman.

"So, you found and saved a girl from another world, and now you're trying to find a way to send her back home." said Tolfdir, concerned. He knew it was possible to find that kind of knowledge, but he also knew its dangers.

"Yes, master, that's the plan."

Tolfdir sighed, understanding that his former student would fulfill his promise at any cost. He saw Asia closely, noting her beauty and how obvious it was that Edzard was growing fond of her. He could even sense that he was beginning to feel something deeper.

"Miss, can you show me your Sacred Gear?" Tolfdir asked, intrigued by these artifacts.

Asia nodded and summoned two silver rings with green gems on the middle fingers of each hand. Seeing them, both Tolfdir and Edzard approached to see them more closely. Although Edzard already knew of their existence, he had never asked Asia to show them to him, and he was glad he had waited. The rings emanated an aura of magical power similar to that of a low-level Daedric artifact.

"Incredible. The amount of magical energy they emit is astonishing. Also, their design and materials are unlike anything I've seen in my long life." commented Tolfdir, fascinated. "Asia, how much do you know about magic?"

"Not much, only what Ed has told me."

Asia hadn't wanted to ask more about the subject, as the Catholic Church disapproved of the use of magic.

"Hmm… Ed, have you assessed her magical potential?"

"No, I haven't." Edzard replied, looking at his master. "I thought that, not being from this world, she wouldn't have the magical reserves we possess here."

"We lose nothing by trying." commented Tolfdir, turning to Asia. "So, Asia, do you want to know if you can learn the magic of Tamriel?"

Asia was surprised by the proposal. Part of her wanted to learn, but another part doubted, as her religion forbade magic. However, she remembered Cindiri's words and, after reflecting, sighed and decided.

"Yes, I want to learn magic." declared Asia, with determination.

Edzard was surprised to see the conviction in her eyes. Smiling, he stood up and approached her. Kneeling, he took her hands in his. A soft blue glow emanated from Edzard's hands, while his eyes shone intensely.

What he saw left him astonished.

'Magic… Asia has magical reserves, but how is it possible? She shouldn't be able to use Tamriel's magic.' Edzard thought, worried.

Determined to discover the cause, he used his version of the spell "Vision of the Tenth Eye." This spell, unlike the original, allowed him to see things hidden from mortal eyes, such as auras or blessings. When he activated it, Edzard noticed a golden aura around Asia, completely enveloping her, and he could clearly see the rings of her Sacred Gear.

'The color of this aura is not normal, and the feeling it provokes… I feel like I've seen something like this before.' Edzard thought, increasingly worried. This type of aura could only mean one thing. However, as he continued seeing, a symbol appeared around Asia: a finely crafted rope, with a knot at the end tying both ends together.

The impact of seeing that symbol caused Edzard to lose concentration, ending the spell abruptly. He fell to his knees, gasping, which alarmed Asia and Tolfdir, who hurried to help him sit so he could recover.

"Ed, are you okay?" Asia asked, very worried, as she had never seen him in that state.

Edzard nodded. He was fine in magical terms, but he felt mentally and physically exhausted. Although he had enough magic for the spell, it put great pressure on the user's mind and body, as it showed things that should not be seen by mortal eyes.

Seeing Edzard nod, both Asia and Tolfdir sighed in relief.

"So, Ed, does Asia have enough magical reserves to learn magic?" Tolfdir asked, with clear interest in his voice.

Edzard nodded again, which caused both Asia and Tolfdir to gasp in surprise.

Although Tolfdir had suggested checking if Asia could learn magic, he had done so only to evaluate his former student's progress in detection spells. However, the results of the small test now intrigued him deeply.

Asia was also astonished. She had never thought she would be able to learn magic; in fact, she was sure of the opposite, as Edzard had explained that magic in Nirm came from a different source. Knowing it was possible filled her with excitement.

"So, Ed, tell us, how much magic does Asia have?" Tolfdir asked, curious.

"Asia… has normal magical reserves." Edzard replied, gasping slightly, still exhausted and struggling to breathe. "But… do you know what the symbol of a circle made with a rope tied at both ends with a reef knot means?"

Hearing the question, Tolfdir raised an eyebrow, intrigued, as he began to reflect on the meaning of the symbol.

'A circle made with a rope tied with a reef knot?' Tolfdir thought, rubbing his beard in concentration.

He spent a good while meditating until he finally understood. Immediately, he hit Edzard on the head with his staff, causing his face to crash into the table. Asia, who had been listening in silence, was startled.

"Ouch! What's wrong with you, master?" Edzard protested, rubbing his head. "Why did you hit me?!"

"For being an idiot!" Tolfdir exclaimed. "Edzard, that symbol belongs to a particular goddess!"

Hearing this, both Asia and Edzard widened their eyes. Asia, confused, didn't understand what they were talking about, while Edzard, on the other hand, began to connect the dots.

'I'm an idiot… of course I've felt that type of aura before, when I helped the temple in Riften extend Mara's benevolence.' Edzard thought. Mara's benevolence was the devotion of the temples dedicated to the goddess of fertility, agriculture, and love. These temples strove to promote unity among creatures through love and compassion.

Noticing that Edzard had understood which deity the symbol belonged to, Tolfdir took the opportunity to ask him why he mentioned it.

Edzard began to recount that he had created variations of many spells thanks to the knowledge obtained from Hermaeus Mora's black books, which transported him to the Daedric Prince's own plane.

"So, the spell you created allowed you to see that Asia has the blessing of Mara herself." Tolfdir said, impressed by his former student's ability.

Edzard nodded silently.

"Well, changing the subject." said Tolfdir, "now that we know Asia can learn magic, what do you plan to do?"

"It's not hard to guess… I'll enroll her in the college."

This response left Asia speechless. She at once stood up from her seat and began jumping for joy, causing Edzard and Tolfdir to smile. When she finally calmed down, she sat back down, allowing the conversation to continue.

"I suppose Asia will take the entrance exam in three days." commented Tolfdir.

Edzard's eyes widened; he had forgotten that detail.

'Asia has no training in magic.' Edzard thought, panicking. However, he suddenly remembered a crucial aspect of the exam.

"Master, the exam will be conducted by schools of magic, right?" Edzard asked, with a smile he couldn't hide.

Tolfdir nodded, confirming the question.

"Asia, which school of magic would you like to learn?" Edzard asked.

Hearing the question, Asia frowned as she thought. She wasn't sure which school to choose, as they all had something interesting to offer. After reflecting for a while, she decided.

"I want to join the School of Restoration." Asia finally replied.

"Are you sure about that? Although it's possible to change schools later, it's not an easy process." commented Tolfdir.

"Yes, I'm sure." Asia replied with determination, glancing at Edzard, who was deep in thought.

Tolfdir nodded, recognizing the firmness in her gaze. However, he also noticed Asia's subtle gestures towards Edzard and understood what was happening.

'Well, it seems an interesting story is unfolding here.' Tolfdir thought, with an amused smile on his face.

"Well, Ed, it's been interesting talking, but I have tasks to attend to for the entrance ceremony. So, I'll take my leave." said Tolfdir, standing up from his chair and heading towards the door. However, before leaving, he turned once more. "Don't forget to talk to the other masters; they will also need to know why Asia is here."

With those words, Tolfdir left the room, leaving Edzard and Asia alone. Edzard sighed as he stood up, aware that he needed to prepare lessons for Asia and give a report to the other masters, although without revealing Asia's true origin.

'Tolfdir won't say anything, so I need to think of a more elaborate excuse for why she's here.' Edzard thought.

As he stood up, Asia did the same. However, before she could say anything, Edzard spoke first.

"Asia, can you stay here and tidy up a bit?"

"Alright, Ed." Asia replied. "But where are you going?"

"To the library. I need to prepare you for the entrance exam and give a report on your situation."

"Okay, take care."

Edzard nodded and headed to the library while Asia began to organize their belongings.

Three hours later, Edzard returned with several books and scrolls in his hands. Asia was astonished to see the amount of material he brought. Edzard placed them on the table and called her to start the lessons. They spent several hours studying until Edzard went to the kitchen to get dinner for both.

After dinner, they resumed their studies, completely forgetting the small problem they faced: there was only one bed, and they were two.

College of Winterhold - Middas 9 of Hearthfire of the 202 of the Fourth era

Asia found herself surrounded by a crowd of applicants for the entrance exam to the College of Winterhold. There were mages of different races and genders: Argonians, Dunmer, Bretons, Imperials, Nords, and Redguards, all of them a few years older than her. While they conversed among themselves, Asia remained alone in a corner, somewhat nervous.

She had spent the last three days studying in Edzard's room. He had made sure she learned what was necessary for the exam. Those days had been uncomfortable, as, unable to leave the room, they had to share the only available bed. The mere memory made her face turn red, but she couldn't dwell on it much because the doors of the college's main hall opened. The masters began to come out, and along with them, an Orc headed towards a small table nearby. The Orc sat down, took a sheet of paper and a quill, and then nodded to Tolfdir, who stood in front of the applicants and cleared his throat.

"Welcome to the entrance exam of the College of Winterhold." announced Tolfdir, capturing everyone's attention.

Upon hearing him, all the applicants fell silent and focused on the elderly master.

"As you may know, this exam will determine if you possess the basic knowledge necessary to enter the college." Tolfdir continued, scanning the crowd with his gaze. "You will be called in alphabetical order. You must provide your full details and choose which school of magic you wish to enter, explaining the reason for your choice. Then, your test will be supervised by the master of the corresponding school of magic."

With those words, the applicants moved to the edge of the courtyard, leaving a wide open space for the tests.

"Very well, we will start with the first applicant." said Tolfdir. "Asia Argento, step forward."

Asia jumped at the sound of her name; she hadn't expected to be the first called. All the applicants turned to look at her, increasing her nervousness. Even so, with timid steps, she advanced to the center of the courtyard. Upon reaching Tolfdir, he gave her a reassuring smile.

"Very well, please state your full name, date of birth, place of origin, and the sign under which you were born." Tolfdir instructed.

"M-my name is A… Asia A… Argento, I was born on the 11th of… Second Seed, I'm from E… Evermore, and I was born under the sign of the Shadow." Asia responded with a stutter, visibly nervous.

The Orc, sitting at the table, noted the details while Tolfdir nodded.

"Good. Which school of magic do you wish to enter and why?" Tolfdir asked.

"The School of Restoration." Asia said in a low voice. "I want to study that school to help people in need."

Upon hearing her choice, several of the applicants began to murmur and laugh at her.

"Does she really want to study Restoration?" an Imperial whispered disdainfully.

"That's for priests, not real mages." added a Breton with a laugh.

"They don't even count as real mages." murmured another.

Asia lowered her head, embarrassed by the mockery. But then, a suffocating pressure fell over the courtyard. The applicants fell to their knees, unable to withstand the weight of the aura surrounding them. Even the masters could barely stand. The air was saturated with magic and killing intent. Many of those present began to tremble.

Asia, terrified, felt fear take hold of her, as tears threatened to slide down her cheeks. But suddenly, the pressure disappeared as quickly as it had come.

"It seems the Arch-Mage has decided to calm this situation." commented Tolfdir with a bead of sweat on his forehead, noting how overprotective Edzard had become. He had never seen his former student so angry. "Let me remind you that the Arch-Mage does not tolerate any disparagement of the schools of magic. To him, all are equally important for the advancement of magical studies in Tamriel."

The applicants panted, surprised to discover that the crushing aura came from a single person.

Asia, for her part, was still in shock. She had never imagined that Edzard could project such power. But then she remembered what Cindiri had told her: Edzard could be kind, but he was also someone to fear when angry.

"If there are no more interruptions." Tolfdir continued. "Asia's reason is completely valid and reflects the spirit of the School of Restoration. Now I will leave her with the master of that school, Colette Marence."

Colette, a Breton with dark brown hair streaked with some gray, stepped forward. She was a middle-aged woman with a serious face and dark eyes. She wore the master mage's robe, complemented by a dark brown cloak. Upon reaching Asia, she took out a small dagger and made a cut on the palm of her hand, leaving the applicants gaping.

"Well, Miss Argento, I am Colette Marence, master of the School of Restoration. You will have three tests. The first is to heal the wound on my hand." said Colette, looking intently at Asia.

Asia instinctively almost used her Sacred Gear but stopped herself just in time and instead cast the "Healing Hands" spell. To everyone's surprise, the spell took effect almost at once, closing the wound in an instant.

Colette looked at her hand, genuinely surprised. She knew, thanks to the Arch-Mage's prior explanation, why Asia was there. All the masters had wondered what particular interest Edzard had in her. When they examined her magical reserves, they hadn't seen anything remarkable. But now, before their eyes, it was clear that Asia had a natural gift for restoration magic.

"Very well done! You have passed the first part of the test." commented Colette with a slight smile on her face. "For the second test, you must use a ward to protect yourself from a spell I will cast at you."

Asia nodded and stepped back a few paces. When she was far enough, she conjured a ward, a magical barrier. Colette saw the ward closely and decided to evaluate Asia's magical ability, opting to wait a few seconds before attacking. Noticing that the ward did not lose strength, she conjured a fireball and launched it. The spell struck the barrier but was completely blocked without Asia suffering any harm.

"Did you see that?"/ "How could she maintain the ward for so long?"/ "I have no idea."

These were the murmurs of several applicants, astonished by the ward's resilience. Although creating a ward is relatively simple, keeping it stable requires constant concentration and a considerable amount of magic. That's why beginner mages often struggle to sustain it for long.

"Excellent, you also pass the second test." said Colette, visibly more satisfied. Asia was proving to be a true prodigy in restoration magic. "The last part of the test is optional. You must use an offensive spell from the School of Restoration."

The applicants frowned, confused. They knew the School of Restoration had offensive spells, but these usually needed a large amount of magic, something not many novice mages could handle. Some even laughed mentally at what seemed like an absurd challenge.

"Alright, I'll take the last test." Asia affirmed firmly, surprising everyone present. "Could you raise a ward, please?"

Colette nodded and conjured a simple ward. Everyone, from the masters to the applicants, watched her with curiosity, not understanding why Asia had accepted that test. When the ward was ready, Asia began to concentrate magic in her right hand. A golden light gathered in her palm, and then she launched a small golden fireball. The spell struck Colette's ward, weakening it considerably until it almost vanished.

"What spell was that?" "I don't know, but it looks like a fireball." "I've never seen anything like it."

These were the whispers among the applicants, and the masters, including Colette, looked on in disbelief. Asia had used an offensive spell in a school known for its healing focus.

"Excellent, miss! You have passed all the tests." said Colette, once she recovered from her astonishment. "It is a pleasure to welcome you to the School of Restoration at the College of Winterhold."

Applause echoed in the hall, and when Asia turned towards the masters, she saw a smiling Tolfdir clapping, followed by the rest of the faculty.

"Congratulations on passing the exam, Miss Argento. I am impressed by your magical ability." commented Tolfdir after he stopped clapping. "You must have had an excellent tutor."

The applicants frowned, confused by Tolfdir's words, while Asia blushed from the attention she was receiving.

"The truth is, I couldn't have asked for a better master." responded Asia with a broad smile.

"I see." said Tolfdir, stroking his beard while keeping his smile. "Miss Argento, I ask that you proceed to the designated area for applicants who have passed."

Tolfdir pointed to his right. Nodding, Asia headed towards the indicated area, taking small jumps of joy as she moved.

The tests continued for another four hours, ending around lunchtime. Of the more than one hundred applicants, only forty managed to pass the tests. Among them, only seven, including Asia, entered the School of Restoration. Most of the successful applicants chose the Schools of Destruction and Conjuration, with fewer in Illusion and Alteration, and almost none in Restoration.

"Congratulations to those who have passed the entrance exam." announced Tolfdir. "Please follow Onmund, who will take you to your dormitories."

He pointed to a young Nord in mage robes, a student of Destruction, whose blue eyes were the only visible part under his hood.

"Once your rooms are assigned, you will be taken to the dining hall for lunch. After that, prepare for the admission ceremony in the Hall of the Elements in three hours." concluded Tolfdir before leaving with the other masters.

Onmund led the new students to the Hall of Attainment, where the apprentices' dormitories were found. The hall was situated in the tower to the left of the college entrance. Asia received a room on the third floor. It was small, with a single bed, a desk, and several shelves.

After arranging her belongings, Asia dressed in the uniform provided: a mage's robe, black pants, and matching boots, with a brown cloak secured by a brooch in the shape of a bird with outstretched wings. She then headed to the dining hall for lunch.

After the meal, along with the other new students, she made her way to the Hall of the Elements for the admission ceremony. This was a spacious room, illuminated by large windows, with a fountain in the center that emanated a gentle magical energy. To the left was the door leading to the Arch-Mage's quarters, and to the right, the library, known as the Arcanaeum.

When all the students were inside, the masters made their entrance, accompanied by several people: a Khajiit, a Dunmer, a Bosmer, and Onmund himself. Once everyone had gathered in front of the new students, Tolfdir stepped forward to start the ceremony.

"Welcome, everyone, to the Hall of the Elements." announced Tolfdir. "Now, to begin the welcome ceremony, the Arch-Mage will say a few words."

Upon hearing this, everyone in the hall fell silent, as they were about to meet the Arch-Mage, the head of the college. This was the same person who had silenced all the applicants during the entrance exam by releasing a powerful magical aura. However, no one appeared, causing Tolfdir to put his hand to his forehead and start muttering curses.

"Please, Arch-Mage, could you stop hiding among the new students." said Tolfdir angrily, as a vein began to show on his forehead. "And could you also stop eating that apple."

At that moment, Asia heard a sigh beside her. Looking over, she saw Edzard standing, eating an apple with a nonchalant expression.

Edzard was wearing a long-sleeved blue shirt, black fingerless gloves, pants, and boots of the same color, and a large gray cloak that extended over his chest. On the back of the cloak was the symbol of the College of Winterhold: an eye surrounded by a circle with five spear points. Noticing that everyone was watching him, Edzard finished the apple in one bite, winked at Asia, and then walked to the front to start the ceremony.

Many of the new students, except for Asia and some Nords, were astonished, as they did not expect the Arch-Mage to be so young.

"Hey, is that the Arch-Mage?"

"He looks very young."

"He looks like he's my younger sister's age."

"He's cute."

"You're right, I'd take him home and never let him out."

These were just some of the murmurs among the new students; however, they were silenced by a cough from Edzard, who was now positioned in front of them.

"As Arch-Mage of the College of Winterhold, I welcome you to the institution that will be your home during your time of learning here. Although the college is very permissive regarding the research of magic, there are certain rules that must be followed to avoid sanctions. These sanctions will depend on the severity of the infraction." announced Edzard. "The rules are: first, do not harm your fellow students in any way, and second, do not steal from your fellow students."

All the students present nodded in acceptance.

"As for your study schedules." Edzard continued as Tolfdir handed him a sheet with some notes written on it, "you will all study from Morndas (Monday) to Loredas (Saturday). Classes are divided into two schedules: the morning, which runs from eight to noon, and the afternoon, which is from two to six."

Upon finishing, Edzard used magic to send sheets with the schedules to the students.

When Asia saw her schedule, she was surprised to discover that she only had classes on Tirdas (Tuesday) in the morning and Turdas (Thursday) in the afternoon; the other days had classes in other schools.

"As you can see, everyone will have classes with their own school twice a week. Enchantment classes are mandatory for everyone, and after that class, there will be lectures from any school, which are open to all." announced Edzard. "Now, if anyone has questions, please raise your hand."

Upon hearing this, everyone began to ask questions, creating an uproar that ended when Edzard cast a lightning spell at the ceiling, whose thunderous noise silenced the hall.

"What part of 'raise your hand' didn't you understand?" Edzard commented with a kind smile, although his dark aura promised pain if they didn't pay attention.

The students fell silent and began to tremble at the energy emanating from the Arch-Mage; however, a Breton raised his hand. Noticing this, Edzard nodded, confirming that he could ask his question.

"What should we do on the days we don't have classes?" asked the young Breton, who wore a maroon cloak, indicating he belonged to the School of Destruction.

"You can do whatever you want: practice spells, go to the Arcanaeum, or, if you wish, look for a job." Edzard replied with a smile. That was an interesting question.

"Work? What do you mean?" inquired the Breton, completely confused.

"I mean you can go to the city to look for employment. After all, you need to obtain materials for your classes and research." Edzard explained enthusiastically. "As you know, Winterhold is in reconstruction, and to create good relations with the locals, it is likely that you will work helping with the reconstruction. This way, everyone wins: the inhabitants of Winterhold get labor to speed up the reconstruction, you get funds for the supplies you need, and the college shows that its members help the community."

Upon hearing this, all the students nodded, understanding the situation. Those who could not receive support from their families, either because they were poor or had left without their blessing, saw an opportunity here to earn income.

"Very well, does anyone else have questions?" Edzard asked again.

When it seemed there would be no more questions, a young Imperial raised her hand. Edzard nodded for her to ask her question.

"What are our obligations to the college?" inquired the young woman, who wore a dark blue cloak, indicating she belonged to the School of Illusion.

"That is a very good question, miss." Edzard replied with a smile, causing the young woman to blush and making Asia pout. "The truth is this place is for studying and practicing magic freely. The only obligations are to respect the rules. If you make discoveries in your research, we expect you to share those findings so we can add them to the college's library."

Upon hearing this, Asia was surprised. Edzard was giving them free rein to study, practice, and research magic without restrictions. Looking up, she saw another student, a Dunmer wearing a dark purple cloak, indicating he belonged to the School of Conjuration.

"Arch-Mage, if we need rare materials for our research, how will we obtain them?" asked the Dunmer.

Everyone present shuddered slightly. It was well known that the College of Winterhold did not prohibit necromancy, but neither did it encourage it; they simply considered it another field of research. The rare materials were mostly parts of human bodies.

"Yes, regarding the rarer materials, these must be obtained by yourselves." Edzard said, disguising a grimace. Then, he glanced at Enthir, a Bosmer with red eyes and light brown hair styled in a mohawk.

Enthir understood and nodded; it seemed he would have to look for body parts to sell.

"Very well, to conclude, if anyone has questions or doubts about research topics, do not hesitate to ask your masters. If the doubts are about administrative matters, bring your inquiries to Master Wizard Tolfdir." announced Edzard, addressing both the new students and the masters. "With this, I conclude the admission ceremony. I wish you good luck in your studies. See you next time!"

After finishing his speech, Edzard and all the masters said their goodbyes and left the hall, followed by the students, who dispersed into small groups. Some headed to the local tavern to drink and spend the night with company, while others, like Asia, made their way to their respective rooms to rest and prepare for the next day.

Author's note:

To those who have made it this far, Thanks for reading. The truth is that this is not the original chapter, since about half of it was rewritten. I hope this one has been better for me and that it does not have as many errors as the original. Because being honest, I don't know how to write much in English and I'm relying on Google translators and the dictionaries that come with office 2019.

Well, I apologize for any misspelling. Do not forget to leave a review if you liked the chapter or if there is something that needs to be improved. With nothing more to say, until the next chapter.
