Chapter 11
Bravil - Fredas 9 of Sun's Height of 203 of the Fourth Age
The sun was shining brightly on the city of Bravil. The city was considered the poorest in the Empire, its houses were huts that were built stacked one on top of the other. Despite this, they had great defenses, such as being located on an islet in the river, in addition to having high and thick walls, which were made of stone. When the enemy troops arrived, the bridge connecting the city with the rest of the continent had quickly been raised, thus slowing down the enemy advance.
However, despite this, the morale of the troops within the city was going through a very bad time, since for four days they had been under siege by a large army of the Aldmeri Dominion. Reports received by the Sixth Legion confirmed that they would not be able to expel the attackers by force. Besides that, they had the numbers to take the city by storm. Currently the general was in a meeting with the members of the high command of the legion.
The current general of the 6th Legion is General Decius. Decius is an Imperial in his fifties or so. His hair is black with some gray streaks. His eyes are dark brown. He wears a muscled lorica with golden details. He also wears bracers and boots reinforced with steel plates. At his hip is his imperial short sword.
"Has there been any change in the movements of the Aldmer?" General Decius asked.
"No general, they continue to maintain their position."
But when they were about to continue the conversation, they were stopped by a loud crash. When the general was about to ask what was going on he was interrupted by a legionnaire who rushed into the room.
"General, the elves have begun to mobilize! They bring siege towers and trebuchets with them!" the soldier yelled as he knelt in front of Decius.
Without thinking for a second, Decius quickly left the room and headed for the barracks. Once he was there he started barking orders at the soldiers from him.
"All archers and wizards to the walls! Infantry divide evenly between the walls! Prepare brigades to put out the fires!"
When the soldiers heard the orders, they began to mobilize. The archers and part of the infantry climbed towards the walls. Several of the auxiliaries began to mobilize to reach the water wells and begin to put out the fires caused by the projectiles of the enemy trebuchets.
As he made his way to the ramparts, Decius saw the captain of the city guard.
"Captain!" Decius yelled, drawing the captain's attention.
"General Decius." the captain replied. "What can I do for you?"
"Take your men and join them with the legionaries who will be on the walls."
"Yes, general." the captain replied. Who went to his men and ordered them to follow him.
Decius for his part continued towards the walls. Once he had reached the top he could observe the Aldmer army advancing.
'It's just liked the legionnaire said, they have siege towers and trebuchets.' Decius thought as he took a good look at the army that would soon try to violate the city. 'Roland, I hope your son can save us from this mess.'
As the defenders prepared for the enemy assault, the general in charge of the Aldmeri Dominion army was in the rear of the army with his personal guard observing everything with a spyglass.
"Humans are completely disorganized." he commented with a smile watching the legionnaires take formations. "This battle will be easily won and the city will be ours before the day is out."
"Lord Tanorian is right." flattered one of his guards. "Those humans won't know he hit them."
Tanorian Temolire is an Altmer who was born on Alinor seventy years ago. He came from a wealthy family and from a young age had shown decent skills to command soldiers. He was a typical Altmer, he had golden skin, amber eyes and long shiny blonde hair. He wore a hooded robe and over this robe he wore full plate armor.
'Those humans already knew about our invasion plans, that's why we had to change the original plan.' he thought as he remembered how the humans had quickly ended the distraction of the Bangkorai pass and how they took advantage of that to obtain a military alliance with the Red Guards.
The original plan was to invade Cyrodill from Elsweyr with two large armies. It had been decided to use the Bangkorai Pass as a distraction to get the Nords and Bretons to send their troops and legions to that place; however, due to the uprisings in Valenwood and Elsweyr, the second army had to be divided to prevent the rebels from taking over the main cities in those regions. And thanks to the rapid reaction of the Empire, he had to march with only the army that was in Elsweyr. So, forcing the march he headed towards Bravil from the city of Rimmen. While his army attacked Imperial territory, the second Aldmer army stayed in Valenwood trying to suppress the rebellions in the area.
'This battle is important. If we win it, the Empire will have to delay the invasion of Valenwood and Elsweyr' he thought as he watched his troops ready for the attack.
"Lord Tanorian, the troops are ready!" yelled one of the officers.
Nodding, Tanorian ordered the attack to begin. "Charge!"
When the Aldmer soldiers heard the orders, they began the attack. They advanced in blocks, the first were the heavy infantry, which went with plate armor and were the ones that pushed the siege towers. Behind them were archers and magicians, who would provide cover for the infantry troops. And further back was the cavalry where Tanorian was.
From the walls of the city of Bravil, Decius watched the enemy infantry approach. He watched as they pushed the siege towers, which were designed to get across the natural moat that formed the River Larsius.
When Decius saw that the enemy troops had reached the outskirts of the city, he began the counterattack.
"Archers, shoot the soldiers pushing the towers!" Decius ordered his troops. "Mages, destroy those damn towers!"
Upon hearing the orders, the archers began firing volleys of arrows causing casualties among the front ranks of the enemy infantry. The mages began to throw fireballs at the enemy siege towers; However, the enemy archers and mages did not remain without doing anything, they began to launch volleys of arrows and magic on the walls, killing several of the defenders. Added to that, the Aldmer siege weapons kept firing fireballs that caused damage to the wall and in turn caused casualties to the defenders.
When the Aldmer infantry reached the edge of the moat, the towers anchored to the ground and released the platforms, which reached up to the wall. The Aldmer infantry quickly began to climb the towers.
Seeing the attackers crossing the moat towards the ramparts thanks to the siege towers, Decius began to order his troops.
"Archers, get out of the area where those bastards will enter! Infantry, form a wall of shields! " Decius ordered as he drew his sword and headed for the wall to aid in the defense of the city.
Hearing his orders, the archers near the ends of the siege tower platforms moved away and allowed the legionnaire infantry to form. As the elves charged the legionnaires' shield wall formations, bloody combat broke out across the entire wall. The infantry of the Empire and the Dominion began to crowd as the bodies of the fallen began to fall into the moat below them. The imperial archers wasted no time and began to attack on the flanks of the enemy infantry causing significant casualties.
However, despite the casualties caused, the Aldmer had begun to penetrate parts of the wall, especially at the furthest ends of it. Little by little they were managing to sneak into the city.
Tanorian watched what happened with a smile on his face. 'Soon my victory will be assured and when I do, I will get honors for being the architect of the first victory for the domain.'
As the elf general watched his troops begin to gain ground from the defenders, his horse and those of his bodyguards became restless.
Tanorian, the members of his guard and the horsemen who accompanied them tried to calm their horses; however, as they did so, a roar was heard in the distance. Looking up at the heavens a shadow could be seen approaching at high speed towards them.
Edzard was pissed off, very pissed off and it wasn't because he was flying at supersonic speeds on a dragon, no, his annoyance was that that same dragon had decided to stop for a nap like five times on the way to Bravil from the Azurian Sea, sea that is in front of the coast of Hammerfell and High Rock.
"Dovahkiin, stop grumbling."
"Don't talk, overfed lizard." Edzard growled annoyed. "We are late because of you."
"No, we are not." Odahviing growled. "A dragon is not late, nor early, he arrives when he is needed."
"Since when are you so philosophical?" Edzard asked with blank eyes.
"I have always been it." Odahviing scoffed. "Although you'd better prepare, I already see the battlefield."
Heeding the dragon's words, Edzard looked up to see the battlefield. What he saw surprised him, for, although he already knew that the elves had more troops than the defenders, he did not expect the latter to make the attacking army bleed so much.
From the view that offered him to fly on a dragon. He could easily observe the enemy formations. So he quickly devised a way to cut off the enemy path.
"Odahviing, destroy the wooden towers first." Edzard said. "Without them, we can easily cut off the attack and give the defenders time to deal with the enemies on the walls."
"Good, and then what?"
"Attack wizards and archers."
"And what will you do?" Odahviing asked again, watching Edzard start to get to his feet.
"I, I will go to destroy the trebuchets and incidentally I will salute the enemy general." Edzard said as his left eye turned crimson red. "FEIM!"
After screaming, Edzard's body became transparent and taking a step forward he began to fall into the void. Odahviing saw this and began to laugh, until he finally roared loudly and pounced on the wooden towers.
As he hurtled to the ground, Edzard's hands began to be covered in fire. When he finally landed in the middle of the enemy soldiers, he slammed his hands on the ground, thus creating a huge blast of fire that engulfed much of the enemy cavalry.
Decius watched in utter amazement as an explosion of fire appeared from the enemy's rear, but was even more astonished when he saw a crimson dragon begin to burn down the enemy siege towers. The enemy soldiers who were not burned by the flames drowned at the bottom of the river when they fell, this thanks to the weight of their armor.
"General, orders." the legionary at his side spoke.
Coming out of his stupor and looking at his troops, he began to order. "Keep killing the damn elves, but don't attack the dragon, it's part of the reinforcements!"
The soldiers were amazed by what their general ordered, but when they saw how the dragon began to attack the enemy archers and mages, they decided to obey.
'Roland, it looks like you and Selene brought a real monster into this world.' Decius thought with an amused smile as he made his way to the stables.
As Odahviing burned down the elven archers and wizards, Edzard was cutting a bloody path through the Aldmer cavalry forces. After killing several of the knights he finally managed to reach the enemy trebuchets.
"¡YOL! ¡TOOR! ¡SHUL!"
Edzard's scream created flames that engulfed most of the enemy trebuchets. Soldiers operating these weapons began to be burned to death and those who survived began to flee the battlefield. Once Edzard took care of these weapons, he began to charge against the soldiers who were nearby. After all, he had to cause the greatest number of casualties to end the enemy morale and thus end the battle.
The day could not be worse for Tanorian, he had been very close to obtaining the first victory for the Dominion; however, this was thwarted by a dragon and its rider. Ride who was slaughtering his soldiers as if they were simple straw dolls.
"Cavalry, with me!" he commanded the few remaining knights, which began to form around him. "Charge!"
Saying that, he and the heavy cavalry began a great charge towards the soldier who was distracted slaughtering the rest of his soldiers.
Edzard was killing every enemy soldier that came into his field of vision. Although he should be concerned about being almost surrounded by enemies and having quite a few blind spots, he currently had his wolf blood activated and therefore his reflexes and reaction time had increased enormously. As he split another Thalmor in front of him in half with the help of his greatsword, he began to hear the sound of horse hooves. Pausing for a second to look in the direction where the sounds were coming from, he was astonished to see what appeared to be the enemy general carrying those who would be his bodyguards and alongside them were the survivors of the enemy heavy cavalry.
Seeing this action, Edzard started to smile. Opportunity to destroy the morale of the enemy army had just appeared before him. He quickly killed an elf who tried to stab him in the back and started running in the direction of the enemy general.
Tanorian watched in shock as the Imperial soldier began to run towards them. Grinning as he thought the enemy was a suicidal idiot, he spurred his horse to accelerate, an action that was copied by those accompanying him. When he was a few meters away from him he raised his sword preparing to kill the human in front of him.
While Edzard used a suicide tactic, such as an infantryman charging head-on against a heavy cavalry charge. The defenders had already killed the few enemy soldiers on the walls. Decius seeing this had ordered his cavalrymen to prepare. When everyone was ready, they began to advance towards the doors while he ordered them to be opened and the bridge to be lowered.
"Legionaries! This is our chance to send those damn pointy-eared beings wherever they go when they die!" Decius yelled at his men as the door opened.
"For the Empire! For the sixth legion! By the emperor!" Decius yelled when he saw that the drawbridge had been lowered. "Charge!"
With that loud cry, Decius and his horsemen stormed out of the city. Once outside, the riders formed into three lines, which advanced together.
The infantry of the Aldmer Dominion that was in the open field was completely disorganized after seeing how a dragon burned the siege towers, and roasted its archers and mages. So when they saw the great wall of approaching horsemen they could do little to stop them.
Legionnaires began to raze enemies in their path while the few remaining Aldmers tried to flee. Everything was a symphony of steel colliding with steel, screams of pain and agony; however, everything fell silent when a loud scream was heard.
Edzard saw how the Aldmer cavalry was a few meters from him, so taking a breath he prepared his best anti-crowd weapon.
"¡FUS! ¡RO! DAH!" Edzard's scream set off a shock wave that blew away much of the cavalry.
Tanorian watched the shock wave reach him, lifting him and his mount as if they weighed nothing. Finally, he was killed instantly when his own mount crushed him to the ground. All the Dominion soldiers who saw that began to drop their weapons in surrender. They were quickly taken prisoner by the soldiers of the 6th Legion who had come out to support their cavalry.
And at that moment, after more than seven hours of combat, what would be called the battle for Bravil was over. The casualties on the imperial side were three thousand five hundred dead and a few thousand more wounded among the legionaries and members of the city's garrison; however, the casualties in the Dominion army were more than eighteen thousand, thus being left without one of his great armies.
After the battle and the casualty count, General Decius had left to send the emperor the news of the great victory.
Late at night, Edzard was meeting with Decius in the general's study.
"It's been a while since we last saw each other." Decius said looking at Edzard.
"Yes, it has been almost a year."
Decius smiled at Edzard's reply. The last time they saw each other was when Edzard had gone to the imperial palace after Commander Maro reported on the destruction of the Dark Brotherhood. He still remembers when he saw it that time.
Flashback
Decius was together with the rest of the generals and the high command of the imperial legion in the hall of the imperial palace. They had been summoned for a "solemn" celebration. According to the invitations, this celebration was to honor the one who eliminated the Dark Brotherhood.
"Decius."
Decius turned when he heard his name. He smiled when he saw the man in front of him.
"Darryn." Decius greeted his old friend.
General Darryn is the leader of the Second Imperial Legion. He is a heavyset Breton, with close-cropped hair and clean shaven. He wears a black colored steel musculata lorica with white details.
Both friends hugged while smiling.
"It has been a long time, Decius."
"Don't even say it. Seven years have passed since that day." Decius said, sadness could be heard in his voice.
"Yeah, friend, it's not worth torturing us for the past."
Decius nodded to his friend. He didn't make sense to be sad about what happened, but it really was a shame that he couldn't find the only memory of his friend.
"Do you know who is the young man to whom this celebration is dedicated?" Darryn asked.
"No, all I know is that he belongs to the Fourth Legion."
"One of Tulio's guys, huh."
"Tulio is going to be bragging about this for years." Decius said with blank eyes.
"You are right."
The conversation of both friends stopped when they saw the emperor and the council of Elders enter.
"Good morning, generals, high command of the Imperial Legion and nobles of the Empire." the emperor greeted everyone present.
Everyone present nodded.
"As you know, recently there was an assassination attempt against my cousin Vittoria Vici. That attempt was thwarted by a young man who belongs to the Fourth Legion, which is stationed in Skyrim. After foiling the attempt, the young man pursued and killed the leader of the Dark Brotherhood." the emperor announced as he looked at many of the nobles present. "After that, the young man went to speak with Commander Maro. And after that he went to the same base of operations of those assassins, where he killed every one of the members."
All the nobles were silent, as they were absorbed by the feat of the young member of the legion. The high command of the legion were whispering about what the young man's prize would be and also what his name was.
"But if the aforementioned has astonished you, what is coming will stump you." What the emperor said caught the attention of those present, because they wanted to know what else that young man had achieved. "The young man has also discovered the identity of the person who made the contract and the real reason why the murder would be carried out."
"The real reason was to use my cousin's death to take me to Skyrim and kill me." Everyone presents began to scream in disbelief; however, the emperor continued to speak. "After a fortuitous stroke of luck, the culprit was discovered. The culprit was Amaund Motierre!"
When the emperor finished speaking, several soldiers from the First Imperial Legion entered the hall and pointed their weapons at the Motierre family.
"For this act of treason, the Motierre Family is arrested and all their possessions are confiscated until it is known who participated in this attempted regicide."
The legionaries quickly seized the Motierre family and carried them out of the hall. When they were out of the room the emperor spoke again.
"Very well, let's continue. It is time for the young man to make his entrance." When the emperor said that, the doors were opened. "All hail the young man who saved my cousin's life, thus preventing my death, as well as being the hero who ended the civil war in Skyrim. The Edzard Rolandson Legate."
Decius and Darryn were having a glass of wine each and when they heard that name they almost choked. In front of them, a young man no older than fourteen began to walk. He was dressed in imperial armor, but what caught their attention was the young man's appearance. He was almost a perfect mix between his old friend and his wife.
"Because of Dibella's tits."
Decius hit Darryn on the head for what he said.
Both friends witnessed how the young man was knighted, and that when he was offered a reward he asked for help to rebuild the province of Skyrim. When the party was over, they both decided to speak to the young man alone.
"You really do look like him." Decius said approaching Edzard.
Edzard turned when he heard them speak to him. His eyes widened when he saw two generals approach him.
"Excuse me, General, but who do I look like?"
"You look a lot like your father, but you certainly have a lot of your mother in you." Darryn replied.
"Do I know them?" Edzard said defensively, as both generals seemed to know his parents.
"Yes, but I don't think you remember." Darryn replied.
"Why wouldn't I remember them?"
"At that time, you were not more than two years old."
Edzard's eyes widened when he heard that, but he was more astonished when both generals knelt in front of him.
"Why are they kneeling?"
"Sorry, Edzard." they both said in unison.
"What do you mean?"
"Seven years ago, we lost a very dear friend to us."
"That friend is your father, the Centurion Roland."
"And when we went to find you in the city of Bruma, we couldn't find you." Darryn's voice was soft and full of sadness. "We lost our best friend, and we couldn't do anything for his son."
"That is why we ask your forgiveness. For not being there when you needed us."
Edzard stood there not knowing what to do.
End of Flashback
Decius finished remembering that moment and saw Edzard, who was sitting looking out the window. If one followed the direction where he was looking, one would arrive at Skyrim, more precisely the region of Haafingar. At that moment Decius remembered a rumor that recently reached him.
"I found out that you are engaged."
Edzard was amazed that the news reached Cyrodill.
"I thought the Imperials didn't care what a northern barbarian would do."
"Most would not mind, but you are different. You know, «the price of fame»."
Edzard rolled his eyes. Apparently, the Imperials had started paying more attention to him since it was discovered that he was a Dragonborn. There were rumors that he was descended from an illegitimate son of Martin Septim. That of course had caused a great political division in the council of elders. Because some wanted Edzard to take the Ruby throne, but unfortunately for them Edzard did not mind being emperor.
Decius looked at his friend's son thoughtfully and decided not to press him further.
"So when will you leave? "
"A few days before the Second Legion and the Breton soldiers land at Valenwood."
"What will you do until then?"
"I'm going to visit my parents' grave."
"I see, but before you head towards that place I have something to tell you."
Edzard raised an eyebrow in confusion, but his eyes started to widen when he heard what Decius said to him.
Alinor - Tirdas 20 of Sun's Height of the 203 of the Fourth era
The beautiful city of Alinor, with its great interwoven towers and walls that catch the sunlight and break it into a variety of colors. It is one of the great cities of the island of Alinor previously called Summer Island, being also the capital of the third Aldmeri Dominion.
In the city palace, from where the royal family of the High Elves once ruled, now the current residence of the Thalmor council. In the council room, the shouts of the members could be heard.
"The army in Bravil was annihilated ?!" shouted one of the councilors in shock.
"Yes, that has become known thanks to the few survivors who have returned to Aldmer territory."
"How is it possible that they managed to crush the army?" asked a nervous councilor as he rubbed his beard. "They weren't supposed to have the troops to do it."
"According to reports, a dragon and a soldier arrived as legion reinforcements."
"A dragon?" the voice of the person who asked the question was grave and full of authority.
"Yes, Lord Cyrelas." another councilor answered.
Cyrelas Elsinius, was an elf who was born two hundred years ago in the city of Cloudrest. He was a typical Altmer with a slim build and golden skin, the only strange thing was that his eyes were red and his hair was white. He wore black plate armor edged with gold, and draped over his shoulders was a large cloak of black silk. He was currently the Arcane Arch-mage of the destroyed Crystal tower. And he was also one of the most powerful wizards in Tamriel.
"Ummm…. A dragon that had a rider." he muttered as he rubbed his chin, but then he started to smile. "Do you know who the rider was?"
All the other Thalmor councilors shook their heads, as the identity of the rider was not seen by any of the survivors who had sent the information through magical projections.
"There is currently only one individual who has an alliance with the dragons." Cyrelas scoffed. "The Dovahkiin."
"The Dovahkiin has dragons under his command?" a councilor asked seriously.
"It is very probable." Cyrelas replied. "What information do we have on the Dovahkiin?"
"Only the information that Lady Elenwen sent us a few months ago."
"He appears to be a fifteen-year-old, his father was a Norse who was a centurion in the First Legion and his mother was a Breton healer." A councilor began to recount what little he remembered of Elenwen's report. "His father's name was Roland and his mother's name were Selene."
'Roland?' Thought Cyrelas, while thinking came a subtle pain in his chest. And it is at that moment that she remembered the young Norse who led the vanguard in the battle of the Red Ring. "I believe he was the young man who led the vanguard in the first clash during the Battle of the Red Ring."
Everyone present was shocked to hear that.
"But we made sure to kill him and his family in Bruma eight years ago!"
"It's true, you gave the necessary resources to get it done!"
"Yes, I know. Apparently, his offspring survived." Cyrelas muttered thoughtfully and concerned, as he had not anticipated this outcome. "What else do we know about the boy?"
"He is the Arch-mage of the College of Hibernalia." another councilor commented. "He is also the leader of that mob that call themselves The Companions."
"Very well." With the information provided, Cyrelas was already getting an idea of the young man's combat capabilities. "Do we have information on something more personal?"
"Yes, apparently he is engaged to a Breton girl and that together they have adopted an orphan girl." answered a councilor looking at some papers.
"Do we know the identity of both?" Cyrelas asked. "And even more important, where are they now?"
"His fiancée is named Asia Argento and his daughter is Marie Argento." answered the same councilor who previously spoke. "And as to where they are, we don't know."
"I see." Cyrelas sighed. The information that the boy had a family could give them a tactical advantage, since by taking them prisoner they could force him to withdraw or even support them.
"Send as many spies as we can to find out where they are." Cyrelas ordered.
The other councilors nodded.
"What news do we have from Elsweyr and Valenwood?" asked another councilor.
"I'm afraid we have bad news." another councilman sighed. "In Elsweyr we have lost the cities of Orcrest and Rimmen to the rebels."
"And the cities of Riverhold and Corinth have been besieged by the combined forces of the legions and rebels in the area." another councilor commented. "Besides that, the cities of Torval and Senchal have joined the rebels."
"Then we have lost the province of Elsweyr altogether." Cyrelas sighed as she rubbed her temples. "This is a real disaster."
All the Thalmor nodded, not expecting this. The Empire should have been caught off guard by the invasion; however, they avoided it and even turned the war around.
"And in Valenwood things are the same." commented another councilor looking at the reports. "We have lost the cities of Heaven and Southpoint the Bosmer rebels."
"While the lords of the cities of Woodhearth and Greenhearth have joined the rebels." he kept talking. "The cities of Silvenar and Elden Root have declared themselves neutral."
"Our army in Valenwood has been divided and they are stationed in Arenthia and Falinesti." another councilman spoke. "Both cities will have to withstand a siege of several months, giving us time to raise another army."
"Then we must start recruiting more troops." Cyrelas commented calmly. "I must also inform you that the project is progressing wonderfully."
"So, can he finish it before those humans attack Alinor?"
"Yes, once this project is finished, the Empire will be destroyed." Cyrelas commented with a cruel smile on her face.
All the members of the Thalmor council began to laugh, because if that project was fulfilled, no one would stop them.
'Laugh while you can, idiots.'
Volkihar Castle - Middas 21 of Sun's Height of the 203 of the Fourth era
Sunlight faintly streamed into what had once been an altar dedicated to Molag Bal. This room had been rebuilt as a training room.
Asia increased the strength with which she gripped her sword. In front of her was Aela, who was holding a defensive posture with her shield on top of her. They were both using blunt weapons made of steel.
Aela stepped forward and quickly lunged at Asia. When she was in front of her, she took a diagonal slash with her sword, a slash that was blocked by Asia's sword. Asia stood as firm as she could and tried to quickly counterattack using a lightning bolt, but this action was unsuccessful. This was because Aela had foreseen this and had quickly distanced herself from Asia.
The moment she saw Aela break away, it was Asia's turn to attack. Quickly she lunged at Aela. When she was in front of her, she started to attack with her sword, but Aela blocked her attacks with her shield.
Aela waited patiently as she let Asia tire of attacking her shield. As the rhythm of the attacks began to slow down, Aela quickly hit Asia in the stomach with the edge of her shield.
"Aghh." It was the only thing Asia could say as she fell to the ground and felt like she couldn't breathe.
Aela saw her friend on the ground and walked over to her.
"Dead." Aela said as she pointed her sword at Asia's neck.
Asia looked up and tried to give Aela a challenging look, but due to shortness of breath and pain, she could only wince. Aela smiled when she saw her friend in that state. Shaking her head, she held out her hand. When Asia took her hand, Aela helped her to her feet. Both friends started walking out of the room where they had been training towards the bathrooms.
"You should stop trying to fight that way." Aela said looking at Asia. Both were with the other girls in the bathrooms.
"What are you talking about?" Fortunata asked.
"In the style of fighting that Asia is using." Aela replied. "She is trying to imitate Edzard's fighting style."
"And is that a bad thing?" Laure asked as she washed her hair.
"Yes, Edzard's fighting style is not a fighting style that Asia or anyone else can easily use."
Asia listened to Aela speak while washing her daughter's hair. Asia knew Aela was right, as she was trying to imitate Edzard's way of fighting. Of course, it was just the fighting style he used with his one-handed sword, since she didn't have anywhere near the physical strength to use a greatsword in the other hand.
"And what is that due to?" Gyda asked, referring to why Edzard's fighting style was so difficult to use.
"Ed's fighting style is not just about strength and speed, but he puts a lot of emphasis on reaction time."
"Reaction time?" Fridda asked. While she and most of her friends were pure mages, she was intrigued by how the Arch-mage's way of fighting worked.
"Yes, reaction time is a way of calling the reflexes that a person possesses. Ed has the craziest reflexes I've ever seen in a person. He is able to deflect arrows with a sword, which is very difficult. He once said that when he fights seriously he is able to see his enemies move in slow motion. "
"So, the Arch-mage is immune to arrows and any magic projectile?"
"No, he can deflect arrows and magic coming from the front, and not in large quantities. For example, if you shoot Ed five arrows, all from a position in front of him, he will deflect them with his sword. If instead you throw more than thirty at him and from different angles, he will deflect them too, but he would use magic to do so or he would just evade them. " Aela replied to Gyda's question.
"Have you always fought like this?" asked Asia.
"No, he used to fight with a sword and shield, but he changed his style after a battle."
"Oh, that sounds like a great story. Do you know her?" Laure asked as her eyes sparkled with excitement.
Aela nodded. Which brought everyone closer to her. Then Aela began to tell the story.
Flashback
The breath of Aela and her companions was visible thanks to the infernal cold that was there. With her went all the other members of the circle of The Companions, even old Kodlak was with them. The reason for this group of lycanthropes to be reunited was very simple, a mission. This quest was a high-ranking quest that had been delivered by a very wealthy wizard. The mission consisted of taking down some unrelated daedras that had escaped from the mage's fortress.
"Damn, this is why I hate coming to Winterhold." Skjor said as he covered himself better with the bearskin cloak that he brought.
All his companions agreed with him. The cold of this region was hellish. When Aela was about to speak, her nose caught a faint smell of blood. Stopping, she began to sniff the environment, when suddenly her eyes snapped open.
"Quick, we have to move!" Aela yelled as she started to run north.
The other members of the group stood still for a moment, until they came out of their stupor and began to pursue Aela. None of them knew why she was so upset. By the time they could reach her they saw the reason for her actions. In front of them in a clearing was a boy of no more than thirteen years armed with chain mail, gloves and leather boots. The boy had a one-handed sword made of steel in his right hand, and a shield of the same material as his sword in his other hand.
In front of him was a tall humanoid being with blue-gray skin. He had a pair of long horns on his head and his hair was black, which was long and he wore it tied in a high tail. He wore a kind of red loincloth, went barefoot and carried as a weapon a greatsword that from a distance seemed to be of Daedric workmanship. Next to the being was a corpse of what appeared to be a Nord.
"Is that a dremora?" Farkas asked.
"No, it is somewhat similar in appearance, but it is more powerful than a dremora."
"What do you mean, old man?" Skjor asked.
"That is a Xivilai."
"Xivilai?"
"Yes, a Xivilai. A race of daedras more powerful than a dremora, but more disloyal and quarrelsome than they."
However, before they could continue speaking, they saw how the boy began to run against the Xivilai.
"You little idiot ..." Skjor said as he thought the boy was heading to his death.
"So young ..." Regret was heard in Kodlak's voice.
But to everyone's surprise, the boy dodged an attack from the Xivilai. Taking advantage of the gap in the daedra's defense, the boy began to attack with his sword, cutting the daedra in the chest. Unfortunately, this one did not seem to be in pain. The Xivilai took advantage of the moment and by turning his sword, he tried to kill the boy, but the boy used his shield and managed to stop the blow. Unfortunately, the steel shield could not do anything against the Daedric weapon and it broke into several pieces.
The boy fell to the ground while clutching his left arm, which began to bleed; However, before he did anything else, the Xivilai approached and struck the boy from hip to shoulder. And after hurting him he kicked the boy in the chest, sending him flying.
The boy skidded on the ground until he crashed into a tree. The Xivilai began to walk slowly in the direction of where the boy had fallen.
Aela saw this and tried to help, only to be stopped by Kodlak.
"Master?"
"Don't interfere Aela."
"But…"
"Easy, the child will not die."
Aela tried to speak, but she fell silent when she saw Kodlak point to something. Turning her head, she could see that the boy was getting up.
"But how?"
"He is healing himself with magic." Kodlak answered Skjor's question.
The boy's wounds were beginning to glow. When he felt that he was sufficiently healed, he ran to intercept the Xivilai. As he ran, he took his sword that was on the ground. The Xivilai began to smile when he saw the boy running towards him. In his mind the child was running to certain death, like an animal to the slaughterhouse.
The boy continued running, until he saw how the Xivilai tried to make a horizontal cut to behead him. The boy quickly jumped up and avoided the blow. When he finally finished running, he was near the corpse of the Nord there. Moving his sword to his left hand, he moved his right hand and took the steel greatsword that had belonged to the deceased.
Aela, Farkas, Vilkas, Skjor and Kodlak all looked on in amazement. The boy planned to use a greatsword as a second weapon.
"What will that puppy think about." Vilkas said as he watched the boy and Xivilai start walking in circles.
"I do not know, but we're about to find out. The battle will begin soon."
As Kodlak said, the battle resumed.
The boy ran against the Xivilai. Which counterattacked using his sword to try to kill the boy, but he responded by using the steel sword to stop the daedra's weapon. The Xivilai looked astonished, but continued his attack. Although that was in vain, since every attack he made was blocked by the boy's greatsword, which had started to attack with his other sword every time he repelled the attacks. Thus, causing some superficial wounds to the daedra.
"Is what I think is really happening?" It was a question that Skjor asked.
"It seems you noticed it too." Kodlak replied.
"What do you mean teacher?"
"The child's ability increases with each moment this battle drags on. With every second that passes, his strokes become more precise and he no longer makes unnecessary movements." Kodlak answered Vilkas's question.
That is easy to answer. The child is a prodigy of that there is no doubt, but he is also something more. "
"Anything else?" Aela asked.
"Yes." Kodlak replied looking more closely at the battle. A smile began to appear on his face. Every time the boy struck his weapon against the daedra's, he no longer saw a black-haired boy, but he saw an unpolished rough diamond. A diamond with the potential to be one of the most powerful mortals of this age. When he finished thinking that, Kodlak finally understood what was happening.
"Do you know why you improve so much in such a short time?" Farkas asked.
"Yes ..., that child is a mortal guided by doom."
Kodlak's response astonished the members of the circle. They began to see the boy better, if what the teacher said about him was true, the boy was a hero of the Elder Scrolls.
The boy and the daedra continued their exchange of blows, but it was visible that the boy's greatsword would hold no more. And that was demonstrated when in a crash, the steel greatsword finally broke. The Xivilai smiled when he saw the boy's weapon destroyed, he quickly moved his greatsword to try to kill the boy. Sadly, the boy was faster and swung his sword towards Daedra's face.
"Aghhh." It was the only thing the Xivilai could shout as the sword pierced his right eye. The sword managed to pierce the daedra's brain, killing him on the spot.
The boy fell to the ground and tried to get up only to fall; however, he never touched the ground, as Aela had moved quickly and trapped him.
"Aela, how is the brat?" Skjor asked when he approached.
"Okay, he's just exhausted." Aela replied, but she blinked when she saw the boy's face. "Wait, I know him."
"What do you mean?" Kodlak asked.
"He is the same boy who prevented a giant from killing Farkas."
End of flashback
"Wait, the Arch-mage faced a Xivilai when he was thirteen years old?" Laure said unable to believe what she had just heard.
"Believe it or not, that's the truth." Aela said before looking at Asia.
"Asia, the biggest scar on Ed's chest was made by that daedra."
Asia stayed still as she finished listening to the story. Edzard was incredible to her. He was someone very strong and what she just heard only made her feel that she was not worthy to be with someone like him.
When the bath was over, they had all gone to their respective rooms. When Asia was on her way to her room, she was approached by Serana, who had just arrived from visiting Solitude. She handed him a letter that Edzard had sent to Castle Dour.
Already being in her room and having left her daughter sleeping in the crib, she proceeded to open the letter.
Dear Asia.
I hope this letter finds you and Marie in good health.
There are many things that I would like to tell you, but unfortunately, I cannot,
I am currently in Bravil.
We have managed to stop the Aldmer and at the same time we have been able to lift the siege of the city,
Thanks to that, I have now been promoted from Legate to General.
I pray every day that this war ends soon and that I can see you again.
Sincerely and always yours.
Edzard.
Asia sighed when she finished reading the letter. A small smile began to appear on her face, she felt relieved now that she knew that the war had not had any setbacks. Thanks to this victory, the Empire still held the lead and if all went well it would only be a matter of time before this war would end.
Author's note:
To those who have made it this far, Thanks for reading.
Well, I don't know how to say this, but I'm sorry. The truth is that chapter was planned for the beginning of August, but some things went wrong. To begin with, I went on vacation from July 29 to Piura, and as is known there was a seismic movement in that region, for my good luck no one in my family was injured but I cannot say that there were no losses, the first was my laptop to which the television support fell, then the electrical system of my house over there burned, so I was without electricity for about two weeks. I was in Piura until ten days ago, and I have just been able to buy another laptop.
Well, I apologize for any misspelling. Don't forget to leave a comment if you liked the chapter or if there is anything that needs to be improved. With nothing more to say, until the next chapter.
