Chapter 25
—Edzard, remember. Change is the most important of all the forces that exist in our world. Without it, nothing would exist—
Quaranir to Edzard in 01 5.E
Edzard was walking through the corridors of McCarran International Airport. Along with him were four other people. These people were Asia, Marie, Valerie and finally the last member of the group, Aika.
Aika had ended up joining the group thanks to none of them knowing how to erase her memory without causing her serious damage. He said this because Valerie had suggested doing the same thing that she had seen them do in her cartoons to erase someone's memory, and that was to give them several hard blows to the head with a bat. Unfortunately they couldn't do that, because being beings with superhuman strength they could end up killing her by mistake.
So in the end they decided to tell her the basics they knew about supernatural beings. After that conversation, came a bigger problem. That problem was that Aika had asked to be taught magic. The reason why that was a problem was very simple, because neither Edzard nor Asia knew how to use earth magic. Valerie hadn't learned how to do magic either, so there was no one to teach her.
Edzard had spent several minutes thinking of a solution. In the end he had only come up with one and that was to give Aika the same thing that he had given to Asia. Because he had studied his ability to empower others for a while, he knew that he could also empower others with his blood.
So after making up his mind, he gave Aika a cup filled with his blood. Aika drank the cup and fell unconscious for a few hours. By the time she woke up, she already possessed minuscule reserves of Magicka.
With that resolved, he called the hotel where he planned to stay and asked if they could rent him another place with an extra room. The next day they rushed to the international airport and left for the US.
Aika had taken advantage of the trip to talk to everyone and thanks to that they had learned that she was playful and could be said to be kind in a certain sense. The only problem is that she was a pervert. In fact, her perversion was such that she had asked Edzard to take away her virginity.
Of course, that request was quickly turned down, since he wasn't one to sleep with women he knew, just like that. Also, he was a married man. In fact, when Asia had told Aika that he and she were married, Aika had just smiled and said that she wouldn't mind having a threesome. After that, he turned and looking at Valerie also said that he wouldn't mind if that threesome turned into a foursome.
Everyone had blushed when they heard that. Asia and Valerie had started to stutter, while he just stood still without saying anything.
Sighing, Edzard stopped dwelling on the past and straightened his coat collar. He was dressed in a black coat pulled up to the neck, light blue jeans, and black sneakers. Asia, who was on Edzard's right, was dressed in a white blouse with a dark green vest, a maroon plaid skirt, maroon thigh-high stockings, black low boots, and a red beret on her head. Marie, who was in her mother's arms, was dressed in a dark blue dress, plus she wore a white coat over her. Valerie wore a white turtleneck top with a light blue coat, with a black skirt with black pantyhose and tall brown boots. And Aika was wearing a white shirt with a pink jacket, a black skirt, thigh-high black stockings, and low brown boots.
When they left the airport they took a taxi and went to the hotel where they would spend the next two weeks.
Once at the hotel, the group walked quietly for a while until finally they could see a girl who matched the description of the person they had to look for when they arrived in Las Vegas.
The girl had blonde hair in two pigtails and her eyes were blue. She wore a gothic lolita outfit that consisted of a black dress with white details with a black bow at the front of her waist. She has a bow around her neck, which has a green gem embedded in it. Additionally, she wears thigh-high white socks of her own with a pair of black shoes. She also has a black bow-shaped bow on her head.
Seeing her, the group approached her. As they did so, Edzard used the vision of the tenth eye spell to see the number of wings the girl had.
'Only a pair of wings? It seems that the Fallen believe that I am a normal human. Better to leave it like that for now. I don't want them to send someone powerful after me.' Edzard thought as he deactivated his spell.
When they were in front of the girl, she looked at them for a second, until her eyes remained fixed on Edzard. The girl looked Edzard up and down, then pulled a photo out of her pocket. With the photo in hand, she began to look between the photo and Edzard.
"Okay. It seems that if you are Edzard Rolandson." Said the young woman saving the photo. "I am Mittelt and I am the one in charge of taking you to our boss."
Mittelt took hold of the skirt hem of her dress and bowed as she introduced herself.
"A pleasure, Mittelt." Edzard said looking at Mittelt. Turning his head, he spoke to his companions. "Girls. Because they don't go forward and go to the room. I will go after my meeting."
Asia and the girls nodded in response.
Edzard said goodbye to each one and left with Mittelt. As they left the hotel, Edzard saw a black limousine parked outside.
'What the fuck is a fucking limousine doing here?!' thought Edzard looking at the expensive parked car. 'I don't know why, but I feel like this is a complete waste of money.'
Edzard looked around expecting the limousine to be someone else's, but gave up when he saw Mittelt approach the limousine. Sighing, Edzard followed her. As he passed by the butler holding the door open, he saw the butler frown and give him and Mittelt a look of utter contempt and disgust.
He was tempted to use a spell to find out how many wings they had, but in the end, he decided against it as he might be found out and that would be too much trouble. So to avoid any trouble he sat in one of the seats in the limousine and waited quietly.
As the limousine moved down the main avenue of the city, Edzard decided to start talking to Mittelt.
"Excuse me, Mittelt." Edzard said calling the attention of the mentioned. Seeing her looking at him, he continued speaking. "I can ask you some questions? I mean, if it's not a problem?"
The fallen angel nodded in response.
"I know that what I am going to start by asking will be a little disrespectful, but how old are you?" Edzard asked, since the appearance of the young woman confused him a lot. After all, it seemed that she was a girl no older than fifteen.
Mittelt's face soured at that moment. She already knew why he was asking. So with a pout, she replied. "I am older than I look."
Edzard put on an awkward smile when he realized that Mittelt had been angry at the question he had asked.
'Damn it, Edzard. Don't you remember that age and breasts are the most sensitive topics to talk about with a woman?' Edzard thought, remembering what Aela and Serana always told him. In fact, Serana had hit him when he mentioned that she was an old woman over a thousand years old. The force of the blow left him unconscious for more than three days.
"Sorry. Honestly, I didn't ask to offend you. You just don't look your age." Edzard said smiling awkwardly.
"Buff..." Mittelt snorted in annoyance as she looked away.
Edzard simply sighed when he saw Mittelt look away. Turning his head, he began to see the casinos, shops and hotels that were in «Sin City».
The limousine stopped in front of a forty-story hotel. The hotel had a Victorian look and radiated luxury from all sides. Getting out of the limousine, Edzard and Mittelt headed for an elevator.
As Mittelt manned the elevator controls, Edzard seized the opportunity and used vision of the tenth eye spell to see the limo's driver and butler.
'Two and three pairs of wings.' Edzard thought as he finished the spell. 'What are two fallen angels of that level doing driving a limousine and acting as a butler?'
Unable to come up with an answer, Edzard shrugged his shoulders. 'Maybe they are being punished for doing something stupid.'
When he finished thinking about that, the elevator beeped indicating that they had already reached the indicated floor. When the doors opened, they both got out of the elevator and headed towards the designated room.
The sun was shining on the Mohave desert. If a traveler passed through that place he would not see anything of the other world. Even the wind was blowing quietly, until out of the blue.
Booom!
A huge explosion caused a huge cloud of dust to rise.
"Aika, don't get distracted and stay focused!" Asia yelled as she threw several paralysis balls at Aika.
The young woman was concentrating as much as she could in order to continue maintaining the ward she used to defend herself. She had spent the last two weeks learning as much as she could about magic from Edzard and Asia. However, no matter how much she practiced, she still achieved nothing despite all the training, as she had only learned four basic spells. These spells had been Flames, sparks, Lesser Ward, and Healing. Furthermore, her magic reserves had not increased one bit.
However, despite these problems, something encouraging had happened for her. And it is that her body had been reinforced and now she possessed superhuman abilities that ranged from strength, resistance and above all agility.
"Aika, don't lose your concentration!" Edzard yelled watching the practice match between Asia and Aika. However, he had to return his sight to his current enemy. Jumping back, he managed to dodge Valerie's ax kick.
"Not bad, Valerie. But you are far from being able to take me by surprise."
After saying that, Edzard rushed towards Valerie quickly. Edzard managed to move fast enough to catch Valerie off guard. Seeing the opening in Valerie's guard, Edzard moved his right hand and tried to strike at the Dhampir, but was unsuccessful. This was because Valerie had used her left arm to parry the blow; however, she did not come out unscathed, as the force of his blow caused her to skid several meters.
"Ugh." Growled Valerie as she looked at her left arm. She could see that the bruised part was starting to turn dark purple. A clear sign that her arm was broken and temporarily unusable.
At that moment another explosion was heard. Both Valerie and Edzard looked in the direction of the source of the explosion and saw Aika try to attack Asia with her training dagger.
Aika moved her arm as fast as she could to try to hurt Asia. However, none of her blows achieved the target, as Asia deflected every blow of hers with her own dagger.
At one point, Aika made a thrust. This thrust was dodged by Asia, who quickly moved and grabbed the arm that Aika was attacking with. After that and with a quick movement, she managed to get behind Aika's back and place her dagger on her friend's neck.
"Dead." Asia said in Aika's ear.
Seeing that Asia and Aika had already finished their practice match, Edzard looked at Valerie again and charged at her. The Dhampir tried to react to the attack, but couldn't do it in time. In the end, she too was defeated when Edzard managed to pin her to the ground.
"Uh…. That was good training." Edzard said as he stretched. Turning his head, he saw the rest of the girls in the hotel room in Las Vegas. Aika and Valerie were sprawled out on the couches completely exhausted and covered in bruises. Meanwhile he and Asia were almost completely unscathed, the only proof that they were in a fight was their clothes, which were slightly torn.
'To think that so many things have changed in two weeks.' Edzard thought looking at the girls.
In the two weeks that had passed, the three girls had become friends. Now they were almost inseparable and went with Marie everywhere in the city. They had gone to shopping malls, movie theaters, arcades, among other places. Besides, he had taken advantage of those days to get to know Mittelt and his boss better.
In the meetings of the past two weeks, he had discovered that the young Fallen Angel was a cheerful girl who liked sweets and annoying others; however, she had a serious anger problem if you made fun of her about her height or her breast size. In fact, he had had to run from an annoying Mittelt on more than one occasion for that reason.
On the other hand, his new boss was called Azazel and to be honest he was easy to get along with, as he seemed like a laid-back person who liked to collect things, visit brothels, drink alcohol and fish. Their meeting had begun with the normal formalities, a greeting here, a question there, they even shared a few glasses of whiskey. And at the end of the day, Edzard left with the impression that Azazel was a mix between Brynjolf, Vilkas and Tolfdir, that is to say a shady guy who is sensible and seems to be old enough to give you some advice or another.
"Say it for yourself. My arm hurts a lot." Valerie said getting up from the sofa and walking towards the table. Once there, she sat in the chair and stretched her arm across the table.
"Val's right, Ed. Her body is covered in bruises, let alone her arm. Her bones are broken into five parts." Asia said as she used her sacred gear to heal Valerie's wounds. "Did you have to be so rough with her?"
"It was necessary to force her. It is better to receive these kinds of injuries in a practice match than in a real one." Edzard responded by kneeling down to pick up Marie. "Besides. She has improved quite a bit."
Valerie blushed upon hearing that compliment from Edzard.
The Dhampir had started training two weeks ago together with Aika, but unlike the human, Valerie had improved by leaps and bounds. She had begun to learn how to use her vampire powers. she too began to learn to fight hand-to-hand with the basics of the martial arts that Edzard used. On magic, she was at zero, as neither Edzard nor Asia knew anything about vampire magic or Earth human magic.
"At least you've made progress with your powers. I can barely use a few basic spells and I barely know how to use a dagger." Aika said joining the conversation.
"You have improved quite a bit too, Aika." Edzard said looking at Aika. "While you haven't been able to increase the amount of Magicka you possess, you have improved a lot in close combat. Especially considering that you were just a normal human before."
Aika smiled at Edzard's words and jumped, hanging onto his neck.
"Damn it, Aika. Do not do that." Edzard said as he kept his balance to avoid falling, because if that happened, Marie would end up on the ground too.
"Oh, come on. You are not going to tell me that your heart does not race having me so close." Aika said as she pressed her body against Edzard's.
"Aika, I'm not Issei." Edzard said feeling Aika's breasts on his back.
"I still can't believe your friends with that pervert."
"Believe it. Also, don't you think it's hypocritical to say that he's a pervert when you are too?"
Aika just shrugged her shoulders. After that, she got off Edzard.
"When do you think I'll be able to use more powerful magic than what I currently use?" Aika asked as she walked away from Edzard, but not before winking and blowing him a kiss.
"When we find someone who can explain to us how magic works on Earth." Edzard said turning his gaze away from Aika and resting it on Marie. "Although I was also thinking about seeing what would happen if you used enchanted items. If we see that it works, I could give you a ring with a Magicka augmentation and regeneration enchantment. But you will have to wait a long time to see if it works. After all, I have to investigate and see if your body can withstand the enchantments."
Aika nodded and walked over to one of the sofas and sat down to wait for Asia to finish healing Valerie.
"Furthermore, searching for a magician may take quite some time from now on. Because until now we haven't met any magicians and we wouldn't know how to recognize one." Asia said as she looked at Valerie's arm. She put on a smile when she saw her healed arm. "Ready, Val. It's already healed. How does your arm feel?"
Valerie moved her arm a little and smiled when she felt no pain. "It's perfect. Thank you, Asia."
Asia nodded and then walked towards Aika. When she was in front of her friend, she began to heal the few wounds she had gotten during her training.
"Aika. Remember that you must continue training as much as you can while we are not with you." Asia said as she watched the bruises and small wounds disappear.
"Yes, I know. Both you and Ed always remind me of that. Also, I don't think I'll have a problem practicing my weapon fighting at home." Aika said as she sprawled out on the sofa.
"Why?" Valerie asked.
"Simple, Val. My parents are always away for work."
"I see. That's good for your practice in weapon combat. About your magic, what will you do?" Edzard asked.
"I do not know. I can't just destroy things over there."
"Why don't you go train at that abandoned mansion?" Asia asked finishing healing her friend. "Ready. You are already healed."
"Thank you, Asia." Aika said looking at herself. "You are right. Going to that mansion would be a good thing. After all, it's already free of monsters and I'll be able to train my magic a bit there."
Edzard was about to say something, but he didn't, because he felt his shirt being pulled.
"Dad. When will I start my training?" Marie asked looking at her father.
Edzard saw his daughter and smiled at her. "There's still a long way to go, dear. If you behave yourself and eat all your vegetables, maybe in about five years."
Marie pouted and crossed her arms in front of her chest when she heard the time left for her training to start.
Marie's face made everyone laugh with amusement.
Night had already fallen as Edzard, Asia, Marie, Valerie, and Aika leisurely walked down the Las Vegas Strip. Tonight was Aika's last with the group, as she was due back in Japan for the start of her class in four days. Although classes start tomorrow, she had managed to obtain permission to miss classes for five more days, alleging that she was in another country.
"Do you have all the things you want to take to Japan?" Asia asked as she looked at Aika.
"Yes. I have everything I wanted to buy." Aika replied looking at her bags. In her bags were clothes and some souvenirs.
"I can't believe they spent seven thousand dollars in two hours." Edzard said as he carried the shopping bags.
"Come on, Ed. You shouldn't bother with such little money." Valerie said as she watched Marie yawn in her arms. "Looks like little Marie wants to sleep."
Asia saw her daughter and approaching Valerie, she extended her arms. The Dhampir handed the little girl over to her when she saw her outstretched arms. Asia settled Marie down and started whispering a lullaby in her ear to lull the little girl to sleep.
The group continued to walk calmly until Edzard stopped abruptly. This action made the girls stop as well.
"Ed?" Asia asked concerned as Edzard was frowning.
"I smell blood around here." Edzard replied looking around. His gaze fell on an alley and he walked towards it. The girls followed him and watched as Edzard grabbed a black hair bow. Sniffing the bow, Edzard knew who it belonged to.
"This bow belongs to Mittelt." Edzard said looking at the bow.
"Waiting. Does that bow belong to that fallen angel?" Aika asked walking closer.
"Yes."
"But why is it stained with blood?" Valerie asked.
"That is easy. Looks like she's been ambushed."
"But who would?" asked Aika, because she, like the whole group, knew that the girl was a fallen angel. "I don't think they were human."
"You are right. They have not been human, they have been two Fallen."
"How are you so sure, Ed?" Asia asked.
"The scent of the two fallen that were in the limousine is in the area." Edzard responded by clenching his fist. "Looks like there's something going on among the fallen angels."
"That would make some sense. But why would they attack her? Valerie asked.
"I do not know. But I plan to find out." Edzard replied. "I can find the place where they are with clairvoyance."
Asia, Valerie and Asia nodded, as they knew the ability of said spell.
"Good. Now how do we do it?" Edzard asked looking at the girls.
"How do we do what?" Aika asked confused.
"Ed asks about who is going to drop Marie and things off at the hotel." Asia replied.
They all fell silent, however, that silence was broken by Edzard. Since he knew that wasting time could make them arrive too late.
"I do. Wait here." Edzard said extending his arms.
Asia handed over Marie and watched as Edzard quickly disappeared through a portal generated by his Shadowkey. A few seconds later, Edzard returned.
"Okay, that's it. Let's go."
After saying that, Edzard's right hand flashed and he began to run. The girls quickly followed him.
The group ran through the alleys of Las Vegas for about half an hour until they finally reached an abandoned warehouse.
"This is very cliche. Why do kidnappers always take their victims to an abandoned warehouse?" Aika asked sarcastically.
"To be honest, I don't know. But this is new to me." Edzard said looking at the building. "Where I come from, normally the kidnapped are in caves, tombs, forts or someplace where there are bandits."
"Have you been to kidnappings before, Ed?" Valerie asked.
"Yes. In fact, whenever there were hostage rescue missions, I was the one who went." Edzard replied.
"Really. Why you and not someone else?" Aika asked.
"That was because Ed is very good at stealth and most of the other members of The Companions tend to attack head-on without using stealth." Aisa replied with a smile as she remembered Vilkas and Farkas. "The only one besides Edzard who could take on those kinds of missions is Aela."
"Uhh. Your friend, the werewolf." Valerie said wincing at the mention of the werewolf.
"It appears that there are nine individuals in the compound. Eight of them are standing around the ninth, which is hanging in the air." Edzard said as he used the detect life spell.
After saying that, Edzard's hands glowed green. The released spell spread out in a small wave that enveloped everyone outside the building.
"Wow. What did you just do?" Aika asked.
"I just used the muffle spell. With this we can move stealthily."
"Amazing. Your spell this time made no noise." Valerie said remembering that every time Edzard used a spell there always used to be some kind of sound.
"That is thanks to the «Quiet Casting» skill." Asia said smiling. "That skill makes Ed's spells silent when he wants them to be silent."
"Sometimes I think that those skills they have are very unfair." Aika said looking at both Edzard and Asia.
"Seriously. Why do you think that?" Asia asked.
"It's just that it's unfair that the humans of Nirm can gain such great skills just by practicing magic or weapon prowess."
"We don't just gain skills by training, Aika. Despite the studies on these, nobody knows what the requirements are to acquire them. In fact, there are cases of master-level Restoration mages who have never managed to gain the «Avoid Death» skill."
"Really?" Asia asked in amazement, since she never thought that there were mages who couldn't achieve a specific skill.
"Yes. In fact, reaching a certain level of proficiency in some subject will not make you gain any special ability." Edzard replied. "After all, even though I'm Expert level in restoration magic, I don't have the Necro-mage skill that Asia has."
"Wow. Look Asia, you have a skill that Edzard doesn't have." Aika said smiling at Asia.
Asia blushed and smiled sheepishly as she didn't know what to say as she thought that Edzard had all the skills that she had.
Edzard decided to help his wife, who didn't know what to say. "We can continue talking about this later. We must hurry."
After saying that, Edzard jumped onto the roof of the warehouse. The girls did the same once they saw that Edzard was on the roof. Thanks to the muffling spell, none of them made a sound when they hit the ceiling.
Once everyone was on the roof, Edzard beckoned and walked over to a window. Looking through it, they saw eight subjects dressed in black clothing. These subjects were surrounding a badly beaten Mittelt, who was tied up and held in the air thanks to a chain connected to the ceiling of the warehouse.
The boss of this small group of fallen angels looked at the unconscious Mittelt. Turning his gaze from her, he saw his subordinates. "What has he told?"
"Nothing, she hasn't said anything at all. She has been insulting us every second." answered another of the fallen looking at Mittelt.
"How much have they tortured her?"
"Quite. And despite that, she hasn't said anything."
"It seems that her loyalty to Azazel is unwavering." Said the leader of the fallen with a frown, before spitting in Mittelt's face. "It makes me sick just to see the face of a bootlicker like her. When she wakes up, heal her and start over. This time increase the punishment."
"It's fine." Another fallen said, then put a dark smile on his face. "Boss. After torturing her, can we have fun with her?"
"Umm. Do whatever you want." The leader of the fallen responded. "That, yes. They will only be able to do so once she has spoken."
"Okay, boss." Another fallen responded.
The leader of the fallen turned and prepared to leave the warehouse; however, he had only taken two steps when one of his subordinates fell dead as a slightly translucent purple arrow hit him full in the head.
"What the fuck just happened?!"
At the moment of finishing saying those words, he saw that two of his companions died thanks to their chests being pierced by two claws. Turning his head, he saw a brown-haired girl with glasses running quickly towards Mittelt. When the girl reached her side, she jumped up and using a dagger cut the chain holding Mittelt to the ceiling.
When he tried to launch himself against the human, he stopped because he heard the scream of his other companions. Turning, he saw them being pierced by swords of light.
"What- What- What's going on? Who are these guys?" asked the leader of the fallen as he backed away slowly. Seeing that he was now alone, he turned quickly and spreading his wings, tried to flee. However, when he tried to fly, he felt great pain in his back.
"AHHH!" was the cry he gave before falling to the ground. Looking up, he saw in horror how his wings had been clipped. Looking around him, he saw a young man standing with a sword made of light. The sword was bloody, a sure sign that it had been used to clip his wings.
The young man walked slowly and when he was within inches of him, he raised his sword and quickly lowered it. That was the only thing he managed to see before the darkness claimed his mind.
Edzard watched as the fallen angel's severed head rolled several meters until it came to a stop at the base of some stairs that led to an office located on the second floor of the warehouse.
They had decided to attack after deciding what each would do in this pseudo rescue mission. Asia and Valerie had had to take care of the subordinates, Aika had had to rescue Mittelt in the midst of the confusion, and he had had to take down the leader. In order to finish them off easily, he had kept his killing intent fully active, causing several of them to be paralyzed with fear.
Crouching down, Edzard searched the corpse of the fallen leader. Reaching into the deceased's pocket, he found a key. Upon taking the key, he deactivated his shehai and returned to his companions. They were gathered in a circle around Mittelt. Valerie had the young girl's head in her lap as Asia began to inspect her to determine how severe her injuries were.
"How is her?" Edzard asked when he reached the girls' side.
Asia looked up and looking at Edzard gave a sigh. "Fortunately the injuries are not as serious as they appear. Although, I will need a good amount of time to fully cure her."
"I see." Edzard said looking at Mittelt. "Asia, take her to our room and heal her there. Valerie, Aika, help Asia heal Mittelt. For that take some potions that I have in a backpack and use it as a topical medicine on the wounds."
The girls nodded.
"Ed, what are you going to do?" Asia asked.
"I'm going to investigate this place. The Fallen had a key in his pocket. I'm assuming this key will lead somewhere around here. I plan to use clairvoyance to find the place. There I will look for information to know why they were torturing Mittelt."
"I see. Be careful, Ed." Asia said as she opened a portal to the hotel.
When the portal was open, Asia carefully carried Mittelt in her arms and she along with Aika and Valerie crossed the portal.
Finding himself alone, Edzard took the key in his right hand and used clairvoyance to see where he should be heading. His eyes widened in surprise when he saw that the spell indicated that he was to go to the office on the second floor.
'This is a fucking joke, right? There's no way this guy is stupid enough to have his base in a fucking office.' Edzard thought as he started walking towards the stairs. After going up the steps, he opened the office.
The room that greeted him was a typical warehouse manager's office, that is, a room with a desk and full of shelves with documents. After searching through the shelves, he finally found a letter sent to the leader of the fallen. In this letter they told him that he must capture Mittelt and know that he knew about something that the dead leader knew.
'Dammit. I must have read his mind before I killed him.' Edzard thought with frustration, because if he hadn't killed him so quickly he would already know he was passing.
After that, he searched for a while more, but found nothing. A normal person would have left once he saw this; however, Edzard was not a normal person. His nostrils managed to catch a smell that did not match paper or dust.
Walking towards the source of the smell, Edzard came to a shelf. Searching for a few seconds, Edzard saw a somewhat strange book. Moving the book, he opened a secret door at the far end of the room.
"This is very cliche." Edzard said as he entered the secret room.
"What the fuck?!" was the cry that Edzard let out when he saw the secret room.
The room was big, very big. Inside it were several shelves of thick hardcover tomes, various racks and sheets of parchment already darkened by mildew.
Seeing that gargantuan number of books, a smile appeared on Edzard's face as some drool began to drip from his chin. However, he managed to realize what was happening to him and, shaking his head, gave himself a hard slap in the face.
'Now Edzard, calm down. Don't let the plethora of unread books seduce you. Control your impulses.' Edzard thought using his willpower to keep from drooling over the books.
After that little awkward moment, Edzard began to read the documents. When he finished reading them, he smiled widely, for these documents were magical notes from a magician who belonged to a magical organization called Rosenkreuzer.
'Lady Nocturnal thank you very much for this great stroke of luck.' That was Edzard's thought, since these notes were what he needed for Aika, Valerie and Asia to use earth magic. 'Although I might as well join in, since it never hurts to know a new trick.'
After thinking that, Edzard began to put everything in the bag that he carried on his belt. This bag was a square bag that was enchanted to hold a ton of weight. Normally there were potions, armor and some traveling items in it, but now it was the designated item to carry his new treasure.
After several minutes, Edzard finally managed to put most of the books away. When he put his hand on the last book, he read the title.
"Basic Magic Concepts for Beginners." Edzard read the title aloud. The name of the book caused him to raise an eyebrow in confusion. Because the title had caught his attention, Edzard decided to give it a quick read. However, with each paragraph he read, he concentrated more on the reading.
Asia was looking at a recently cured Mittelt, who was lying on one of the sofas in the living room. She had managed to heal her wounds quickly thanks to the joint action of her sacred gear with the healing potions. Thanks to both methods, they managed to cure her in less than half an hour. After that, they had left Mittelt to rest on the sofa while Aika was sent to buy her clothes, as Mittelt's clothes were completely in tatters.
Aika had already returned with Mittelt's clothes when the room was lit up by the appearance of a portal in the middle of the room. From this portal appeared Edzard, who was completely covered in soot, dust and his clothes showed some minor tears.
Asia would have been worried if she hadn't seen the smile that graced her husband's face. She knew that kind of smile, it was the smile that Edzard put on when she found some interesting book to add to her already great, great collection of books.
Edzard saw the girls and walked over. When he was next to them, he spoke.
"Did they finish?"
"Yes. We've already finished." Asia replied with a smile. "Look behind you."
Edzard did as his wife told him and saw Mittelt calmly resting. With silent steps he approached the girl and put a hand on her forehead.
"It's good to see that she's out of danger." Edzard said in a soft voice. Turning his head, he saw Asia. "Did it take you long to heal her?"
"No. Thank God the injuries weren't lethal, otherwise we would have taken much longer." She answered Asia with a smile.
"I see. That is good." Edzard said as he walked over to a sofa. Upon arrival, he sat down and next to him sat Asia. Across from them sat Valerie and Aika.
"So, De. What did you find in the lair of the leader of the fallen angels?" Asia asked looking at her husband.
"I found a letter indicating that they should find out how much Mittelt knew about something. Unfortunately, the only one who knew about what was going on was the leader." Edzard said sighing.
"I see. I guess killing him so quickly has made us lose track of what's going on." Asia said.
"Yes. However, I also found something else."
Saying that, Edzard took out the beginner's magic book and placed it in the middle of the small table in the room.
The girls looked at the book and read the title. Aika and Valerie looked at each other and smiled, while Asia sighed.
"You know. Sometimes I don't understand the insane amount of luck you have, Ed." Asia said as she watched her husband smile at her with mock presumption.
"Oh. What can I say, dear. Lady Nocturnal loves me." Edzard replied with a mocking smile on his face.
Asia sighed and decided to take the book.
"Ed. What did you learn from this book?" Asia asked reading the first pages of the book.
"Just that on Earth they do magic differently than on Nirm." Edzard replied with a frown.
"What do you mean by that?" Aika asked, as she was one of the most interested in learning magic.
"Earth magic is done using a magic circle as a medium. This magic circle is formed by a magic formula, which can vary in its composition depending on the type of species that uses it. In fact, on page three hundred they show some examples of magic circles of angels, devils and fallen angels." Edzard said.
Asia turned the pages of the book to the mentioned one and saw several drawings of magic circles.
"I do not understand anything." Aika said as she rubbed her head in confusion, because she hadn't understood how she should do magic.
"If I'm honest, the way they use magic here on Earth is very complex. According to that book, magic is a set of calculations to make something using the magician's own imagination." Edzard said looking at Aika.
"So, in order to use magic, you need a magic formula and a magician's imagination while doing calculations?" Valerie asked looking at Edzard, who nodded. "I know I've never asked, but how does Nirm's magic work?"
"That's very easy. The magic in nirm manifests itself in various ways. Generally, it is done as a spellcasting, but there are also potions, enchantments on objects, among others." Edzard replied. "Now, the main difference is that in using spellcasting magic we don't use formulas, what we do is use our Magicka to bring about changes in the physical world. We do not use equations only our imagination and will to be able to influence the world using our power."
"I see. From the way you say it, it seems like it's easier to use Nirm's magic, as it seems to have a standardized system of use." Valerie said with a hand on her chin.
"No. In that you are wrong." Edzard said drawing Valerie's attention. "There is no standard system. Nobody can do magic in the same way. Each person has their own way of doing magic. If I had to explain it, it is as if you were a painter and each spell was a canvas of yours that no one could replicate."
"So, according to this book, we would first need a magic formula to create a magic circle so that both Valerie and Aika can use magic, right?" Asia asked looking at her husband.
Edzard smiled when he heard that, so, getting up from his chair, he walked to the center of the room.
"I hope you have been studying magical language." After saying that, Edzard stretched out his right hand.
Asia, Aika and Valerie looked at the hand without understanding what Edzard was planning to do; however, a few seconds later they saw a bright red circle form on Edzard's palm.
This circle was made up of a large circle that had small circles at each of the cardinal points. In each of these small circles there is a letter engraved in Nirm's magical language. Inside the large circle are two squares on posts that form an eight-pointed star. A cross linked each of the outer circles with the main circle and a small circle appeared in the center of everything. This small circle, like the others, had a letter inside. Also, each of the lines that made up the star and the main circle had some words written there.
"Wow! You just created a magic formula!" Aika shouted with excitement seeing the magic circle in front of her, since that circle meant that she would soon be able to learn mage that was more in tune with her.
"Incredible. It seems we underestimated the difficulty of performing magic." Valerie said looking at the circle.
Asia didn't speak, but instead started to stare at the circle. Unlike Valerie and Aika, she could understand what was being said by the symbols the circle displayed.
'In the north circle is the "D" which symbolizes destruction. In the south the "I" that symbolizes the illusion. In the east is the "A" which symbolizes alteration. In the west the "R" of restoration. those are the main schools of magic; however, I don't understand why there isn't a circle with the "C" for conjuration, since I don't think the "C" in the center represents it. For me that letter represents the last name Cumberland.' Asia thought.
"Ed. Why isn't the conjuration school symbolized in the circle?" Asia asked.
Edzard smiled as he answered. "That is easy. The conjuration school mostly uses Daedric language for their grimoires and scrolls. So it is not yet possible for me to include it here. Maybe in the future I will include it, but for now I consider it irrelevant."
"Ed. How did you make that magic circle? Since you mentioned it earlier, that's a bit of a complicated action."
"Look at page five hundred There are some basic formulas there for making magic circles."
Asia looked at the mentioned page and was surprised that Edzard was right. There on that page were some formulas for doing magic. Seeing them well, she was able to understand them slightly.
"Study those formulas for a few minutes and come to understand their meaning and use. After that I started experimenting a bit and managed to create the circle. Of course, the formula used is not any of those that appear there. I used some basic knowledge of Nirm magic to be able to build it."
"Wow. And what can you do with it? Aika asked looking at the circle.
Edzard blushed and deactivated the circle. As he rubbed the back of his neck, he spoke. "The truth is that that is all I have managed to do. Every time I try to cast a spell with the circle, it blows up in my face."
The girls blanked their faces upon hearing those words.
"So, you haven't made any progress?" Valerie asked.
"Not yet. But we must not forget that magic is a subject that must be studied constantly. Besides, I only read that book for an hour. So give me tonight and I'll have something ready for tomorrow." Edzard replied as he flashed a grin from ear to ear.
On the plane of the Deadlands, surrounded by various lava rivers and volcanoes, is a palace made of black stone. On a throne in the middle of the great hall of said castle is a giant, four-armed humanoid being with blood-red skin. His body was muscular and had several white tribal tattoos. The being had pointed ears and horns on its head. His gaze showed hatred, fury and rage without control.
"Lord Dagon. The fighting is over." Said a dremora kneeling in front of his lord.
"Show me."
The dremora nodded and created hundreds of portals.
Each of the portals displayed an individual, either male or female. Each of them had something in common, and that was that they were surrounded by hundreds of corpses. The corpses that surrounded them showed signs of having received great violence, since they were dismembered, decapitated, divided in half, among other things.
"Is it everyone who survived the test?"
"Yes my lord." The dremora answered. "They are the best recruits we could get from their followers on Earth."
"I can see that. Will they be able to withstand the power they will receive?"
"According to our calculations there is a percentage of ninety percent that they die."
"Well, that is more than enough. Give them the artifacts. And for those who survive, outfit them in good quality Daedric armor with powerful enchantments."
The dremora nodded and departed to carry his lord's orders.
Author's note:
To those who have made it this far, Thanks for reading. Because being honest, I don't know how to write much in English and I'm relying on Google translators and the dictionaries that come with office 2019.
And here we have the first chapter of 2022.
In this chapter, Edzard has met and saved Mittelt. Also, he has met Azazel. Some details of the meeting they had will be shown in later chapters. Also, Edzard has managed to create a magic formula to be able to make magic of the DxD world. About magic, I have to say that this is a very complex topic and that it had me thinking for several days, since both in DxD and in Elder Scrolls there is not much information about how they do magic, so in the end I had to improvise with the little information there is. And finally, the second antagonist of this story appears. Mehrunes Dagon, unlike Molag Bal, will already start moving to try to conquer the land.
About the magic circle, it is the one that appears on the cover of the fic. In case you haven't noticed, I've changed the cover, as I felt the previous circle was too extravagant.
Now, I have to confess that these two are not the final antagonists, since that position is occupied by another being. In fact, that being is the one who has been pulling the strings in the shadows and is responsible for some events moving forward in the timeline.
About the identity of that being, it could give them a clue. He is known as «Change» or as «Akel.»

Thanks for the review.
demigodninja21:
Thanks for the review. Thanks for making those corrections, I'll try to fix it in the future, but I don't promise anything, since my mind is focused on the next chapters.

Thanks for the review, I'm glad you're liking the story.
Hahahaha. You summarized each chapter with those reviews. Now, about what you ask about the omake. They don't speak the same language in Westeros, what happens is that Edzard learned to speak the common tongue by reading the minds of both Jon and Robb. And if you liked chapter 17, wait a few chapters later for something like that to come, but on a larger scale. XD
Well, I apologize for any misspelling. Do not forget to leave a review if you liked the chapter or if there is something that needs to be improved or if you have any questions about the story. With nothing more to say, until the next chapter.
