Chapter 28
— Seriously, Ed. Only you can think of using a greatsword in combination with a one-handed sword. —
Aela to Edzard 201 4E
The sun was starting to hide on the Kuoh city skyline as Edzard was together with Asia, who was currently changing her clothes to go to her hometown for a visit.
It had already been two days since he went to visit the church where Asia grew up. After arriving at the room they were renting, he took Asia for a walk in a park and there he told her that he had come to visit her old home.
'She was quite upset when she found out. But she then smiled and cried with happiness knowing that her excommunication had been lifted.' Thought Edzard and then sighed, because he also remembered another part of the talk they had. And when he arrived, Asia was waiting for him sitting at the main table. When he asked her about the other girls, she told him that they had gone out and taken Marie for a walk. It was at this point that she used the awkward «We need to talk».
'And yes, the topic we had to deal with was uncomfortable.' Thought Edzard with a little discomfort, because the topic discussed was a very, very uncomfortable one. That topic was the feelings that the rest of his friends felt for him. 'Damn it, I still remember how my reaction was.'
Flashback
"What?! Are you sure about that?!" Edzard yelled in complete astonishment.
Asia nodded in response.
Seeing his wife's response, Edzard slumped back in his chair and put his hand to his face.
"Since when?"
"Each one has a different time." Asia replied. "Aika, since you saved her from the bullies, Valerie since she got her emotions back, and Mittelt since about two months ago."
Edzard looked at his wife and was amazed to see her completely calm. "You are very calm about this matter."
Asia looked at Edzard and put on a smile, which started to get tighter as her right eyebrow trembled non-stop. "Do you really think I'm calm?"
Edzard shook his head as he could finally see that his wife was very, very uptight about this. Taking a breath, he tried to collect his thoughts.
"So how do we deal with this?" Edzard asked looking Asia in the eye.
Asia averted her eyes as she didn't know what to do. A part of her was angry about what was happening, but another not so much. She understood the reasons why each of her friends had fallen in love with her husband, after all she had also fallen in love with Edzard for the same reasons.
'And they had the audacity to tell me that if I don't accept that we all be with him, they will take him away from me.' Asia thought; however, a smile appeared on her face when she thought about the empty threats of her friends. 'I've known them for a few months and I know they're not bold enough to try that. They just brought it up to pressure me into agreeing.'
"I don't know, Ed." Asia replied with a sigh. "Honestly, I don't know what to do. A part of me is worried, but another part of me I guess is happy."
Edzard raised an eyebrow in confusion. "Happy? How can you be happy with what you have been told?"
"The truth is that since I found out about the concubinage, I have been preparing myself mentally so that you could bring another woman into the family. However, I never expected you to bring three at once." Answered Asia, then gave a sigh. "I guess Aela and Serana were right about this. It seems that you are someone who falls in love with women unconsciously."
Edzard blushed upon hearing that. "It's not that I do it on purpose. In fact, speaking of falling in love. How come I didn't notice it?"
"Seriously Ed." Said Asia while sighing in annoyance. "Remember how Valerie tends to avoid looking at you when you're very close to her. Or when Aika hugs you from behind and just stands there without saying anything kinky or when Mittelt acts a bit tsundere."
Edzard blinked in confusion. "I do not understand. Isn't that how they normally act?"
Asia put a hand to her face thanks to the exasperation she was beginning to feel. 'Now I remember why I was the one who had to take the first step in our relationship.'
"No, Ed. Those are clear signs that they like you. But they did not know how to approach you, because it is easier to approach single young people than one who has formed a family." Asia said with her hands on her hips. "Also, they felt that they were not worthy of receiving any kind of affection from you because they still feel that they are very weak."
Edzard blinked several times. Until he finally understood what was going on. Putting a hand to his head, he scratched the back of his neck. "I understand."
"That is good. Now what do we do with this? Are you going to give them a chance?" Asia asked as she looked at the ground and clenched her fists.
Edzard saw his wife and with a sigh got up from the chair he was sitting on. Walking, he approached Asia and knelt down in front of her. Taking her hands in his, he spoke.
"Remember what I told you several months ago."
Asia nodded.
"Then you already know my answer." Edzard said as he raised a hand and placed it on Asia's head. "I'll give them a chance only if you think they deserve it."
Asia stood still for a few seconds without saying anything as she was thinking of an answer. In the end she got to one. "Then, I think I could allow them to join the family."
"Are you sure about this?"
"Yes. they also deserve to be happy." Asia said with a smile. "Although I will have to make my position as the first wife very clear."
End Flashback
'In the end, Asia ended up accepting that they become my concubines.' Edzard thought and then sighed. 'That's fine I guess, since if I'm honest with myself, I've had a certain amount of attraction to them for a few months now.'
And it is that, for a few months, Edzard had begun to feel attracted to each of the girls who had traveled with him. Although he always kept those feelings locked away so as not to cause Asia pain, since even though he may have started falling in love with the other girls, the love he felt for his wife had not diminished at all.
'I guess my family will get bigger.' Edzard thought with a smile. 'I can't wait to see their reactions when they find out.'
Edzard thought that because he hadn't said anything to any of the girls yet. They had decided to tell them everything after what would happen today.
"Ed, I'm ready."
Asia's voice made Edzard stop thinking and look at his wife.
Asia was wearing a white frilly shirt with a blue skirt that ended a few inches above her knee. Additionally, she wore a pair of low black boots along with thigh-high stockings.
"So how do I see?" Asia asked blushing and looking away.
"You look great." Edzard replied with a smile.
Asia smiled hearing that. "Thanks, you look good too, Ed."
Edzard looked at his own clothes and nodded. He was wearing a black formal vest over a long-sleeved black shirt, a pair of skinny dress pants with a chain on the left side. Furthermore, he was wearing a pair of black leather boots.
"Do you think it's wise to leave Marie here and not take her with us?" Asia asked.
"Yes. It's better to go by ourselves first. That way, if there's a problem, she won't be in danger and we can fight more comfortably." Edzard replied with a serious voice.
"Uhh. I know, but I don't know why you're so paranoid." Asia sighed, because Edzard was worried about something. His concern was such that he had told her to link her swords to a summoning circle while he linked their swords with conjuration magic. "I feel like you're exaggerating."
"I do not believe it. I feel like something is going to happen today." Edzard said as he walked to the center of the room. Once he was there, he raised his shadowkey and opened a portal to the outskirts of Asia's hometown.
"So, honey. We are going." Edzard said with a smile.
"Of course my love." Asia replied with a smile on her face, as she was happy to be able to go back to the church where she grew up.
Holding hands, they both walked through the portal with a smile.
A clear sky with the midday sun overhead greeted them both as they passed through the portal.
Asia made a smile seeing the hills and fields that she had seen in her childhood. She started walking as she let Edzard close the portal they had come through. When she climbed a hill, both her smile and her happiness completely vanished, as the small town where she had grown up was completely on fire.
"Asia." Edzard said approaching his wife; however, whatever he had planned to say after that died at the sight of the town in flames. Turning his head, he saw that Asia was standing in shock and not moving as tears fell down her cheeks. Wasting no time he gave his wife a light blow on the head.
"I know it's painful, but the longer we stay here doing nothing, the more victims there will be." Edzard said seriously.
"Yes. You are right. There is no time to cry." Asia said as she wiped away her tears.
"Well. We must hurry. So go as fast as you can. I will go at the same speed as you." Edzard said looking at the burning town. "It is better to go together. We don't know what's going on, so this way we'll have a safety line."
Asia nodded and prepared to run at full speed.
"Very good. Go."
The moment Edzard said those words, they both ran out as fast as they could. The speed at which they advanced was such that they seemed like blurs as they traversed the short distance between the place where they appeared and the town.
When they arrived at the town, they saw that several houses had been destroyed.
"What happened here?" Asia asked as she placed a hand on her chest as she felt a pain in her heart, as she was not used to seeing this kind of sight. In fact, seeing this place in that state made her remember the day she found her little Marie on that farm. However, she was brought back to the present when she felt a hand on her shoulder. Turning her head away, she saw that Edzard had put his hand on her as a way to calm her down.
"Ed?"
"Calm down. I know what I'm about to say is painful, but we can't stay here." Edzard said with a serious look and voice. "We have to continue. There might be survivors."
Asia looked at Edzard and was amazed that he could stay so calm in a situation like this, but then she remembered that he was a former soldier who fought in two wars.
'Ed must have seen worse in the civil war.' Asia thought sadly. However, she then shook her head at her and started walking with her husband through the burning town.
They continued walking for a long time, until they heard cries of struggle and pain. Stopping at that moment, both began to see their surroundings better, however, they did not see anything in the vicinity.
"There are ten people running from three small beings on the other street." Edzard said while his right hand had a red orb.
Asia nodded and together they ran towards that place. When they reached a row of houses, they took a long jump to reach the roof of one of the few houses still standing. Once on the roof of the house, they looked towards the street and the eyes of both of them widened in complete shock.
"W-w-what is a group of Banekin doing on Earth?" Asia asked completely amazed to see daedras on earth.
"I do not know." Edzard replied looking at those little winged humanoids with mottled gray skin, a spiked tail, pointed ears and horns on their heads.
"Help!"
Both Edzard and Asia snapped out of their musings when they heard that cry for help.
Seeing that those daedras were going to attack a group of humans, Edzard didn't think twice and rushed towards them with great speed. As he fell, he summoned his Sthalrim Greatsword. When he was on the ground, he quickly decapitated the first banekin he came within reach of.
The rest of the Banekin watched in astonishment as their companion died, since it was the first time that they had killed one of their own with such ease, since the rest of the humans who had faced them had been subdued very easily. They had received a direct order from Lord Dagon to capture the humans of this town to use as test subjects to find a way to make them more compatible with Nirm's artifacts and potions. This to avoid losing so many followers, because of all those who received the artifacts, only ten survived.
Putting aside their stupor they tried to pounce on Edzard, but to no avail as they were killed by Asia's swords of light. After that, both Edzard and Asia quickly left the place, leaving the family to go to the church, which seemed to be the safest place in the whole town.
Edzard and Asia continued to run through the streets of the town killing any daedra they came across and saving the civilians. Many of these recognized Asia and thanked her for helping them in their time of need. Some even said that it was a miracle from God that their "Holy Maiden" came to help them when they needed it most. Some of the villagers also asked Edzard about their relationship and he told them that they were married. This answer caused much confusion and chaos in the most pious followers, as they could not believe that Asia had married; however, there was also a group of them who congratulated them on their marriage and wished them much happiness in their lives.
"So, Ed. What's next?" Asia asked as she looked at the completely empty town. This was because they had helped evacuate all the remaining civilians.
After helping them, they both searched for more people, but couldn't find anyone else. Of course, they found several daedras, whom they quickly killed.
"We must separate." Edzard said looking west. He was looking in that direction because there he had felt a great deal of magic. Also, that many of the daedras were heading towards that place.
"Separate us?" Asia asked confused.
"Yes. That way we can cover more ground." Edzard said getting ready to go towards his target. "I will go west and you go east."
Asia looked to where Edzard told her to go and saw the church where she had grown up. Knowing that every second counted to avoid deaths, she prepared to leave, but not before taking Edzard by the arm and pulling him to kiss him.
"Be careful, Ed." Asia said when they parted ways. Saying that, she jumped up and ran towards the church.
Edzard put a hand to his lips and smiling, began to run west.
Asia managed to cover the distance from the point where she had separated from Edzard to the church in a few seconds. When she was about a hundred meters away, she heard the unmistakable sound of a fight. So she, without thinking, she headed towards the place where said sound originated. When she arrived, she saw an individual fighting two exorcists. Well, to say fight would be very pretentious, the best way to describe this was as a one-sided massacre, since the individual was sweeping the ground with the two exorcists.
Extending her left hand, she summoned a magic circle. From this circle appeared the hilt of a sword. Taking said hilt, Asia cast a magic armor spell on herself with her left hand, and rushed to help the two exorcists. Arriving a few meters from the battle, she could see that the subject was wearing modified Daedric armor.
The armor was as black as night with red lines that seemed to be veins running blood. The armor consisted of a breastplate, bracers, and boots, all over a mage's robe. The dremora's identity was hidden by a hood. In his hand was a very strange weapon, for it was not a greatsword, nor a sword, much less an axe. The weapon was made up of two blades attached to a handle taking the shape of a crescent.
Seeing that armor, Asia tried to eliminate the daedra with a quick blow, as a prolonged fight with a heavily armored dremora was very dangerous. Unfortunately, her attack could not kill the dremora, as he managed to avoid the attack, but for that he had to get away from the exorcists.
Seeing that her attack had failed, Asia walked past and landed in front of the daedra. Although she was unable to kill the dremora, she was able to make it stop paying attention to the exorcists.
"Stop!" Asia yelled in Latin as she glared at the exorcists trying to get closer to fight the Daedra. "You guys are no match for him, so retreat to the church for treatment. When you arrive tell the other exorcists who are there that the demons that attacked the place have already been defeated."
The exorcists tried to retort, but in the end, they realized that Asia was right, so they obeyed her and ran towards the church.
"Wow. Looks like someone else wants to play." The dremora spoke in a feminine voice with a hint of mockery. "I hope you are stronger than those two useless ones."
Asia's eyes widened in surprise upon hearing her, for she was not speaking in a Nirm language, but was speaking in Romanian.
'Is she speaking Romanian?' Asia thought in amazement. 'But how is that possible?'
"Who are you?" Asia asked as she pointed her sword at her. "I know you are not a dremora, so I am asking you. What are you?"
"Oh. You seem to know what a dremora is." The girl answered mockingly. "That makes you more interesting than those jerks. If you want to know my name. Well I'll tell you, since you're going to die today anyway. My name is Ruxandra."
Finishing her introduction, the woman lowered her hood, revealing her features. She was a young woman in her early twenties with white hair, but not white like an albino person, no, the shade of white was one very similar to white smoke.
After those words a silence was formed that made it possible to hear the sounds of wood burning. The wind blew lightly when out of nowhere, Ruxandra lunged at Asia, quickly managing to cross the distance between them. When she was in front of Asia, she raised her weapon and gave a quick vertical downward strike. Asia blocked the attack using her own sword. After that, she raised her left hand and created a circle of magic. From this circle came a great gust of wind, which hit Ruxandra squarely, causing her to end up flying several meters.
Ruxandra managed to stabilize herself in the air and landed on her feet.
"Wow. It's the first time I've been attacked with magic." Ruxandra said with a smile from ear to ear. "You really are more interesting than those scum from before!"
After saying that, she charged towards Asia again. When she was in front of her, she launched a horizontal blow, which was blocked. Asia responded to the blow by throwing a vertical blow, which was blocked by Ruxandra's strange weapon. And that's how she began a quick exchange of blows, where both Asia and Ruxandra neutralized each other.
The exchange of blows lasted several minutes. Sadly, neither of them managed to land a blow on their opponent. However, when Ruxandra made a diagonal attack, Asia didn't parry the blow, but deflected the attack, thus making Ruxandra's defense open. Seeing the opening, Asia extended her left hand and released lightning, which hit Ruxandra's chest squarely.
"Aghhhh!" Ruxandra cried out in pain, but she didn't back down and continued in her place. Clenching her teeth, she took advantage of this and kicked Asia in her chest, sending her flying two meters. This caused the spell to end.
Ruxandra began to pant from the weariness of wearing the armor. Looking at Asia, she gritted her teeth in anger seeing that she didn't show any signs of exhaustion.
"Damn bitch! Give yourself up for dead!" Ruxandra yelled tightening her grip on her weapon, reaching into a pocket, she pulled out a vial with contents as red as her blood. In one movement, Ruxandra drank the contents.
Asia watched in amazement as Ruxandra's sclera turned black and her eyes flashed a sickly red color. Furthermore, the blades of Ruxandra's weapon began to be covered with a pale purple aura.
"I did not expect you to force me to use the power my lord gave me." Ruxandra said as she took a fighting stance. "But now that I'm going to use it, you'll die!"
After yelling that, Ruxandra charged towards Asia.
Asia had to crouch down to prevent Ruxandra from cutting off her head.
'Her speed has increased a lot.' Asia thought as she deflected a blow from Ruxandra's weapon. 'No. It's not just her speed, her strength has also increased. She now she is on the same level as Aela.'
Asia tightened her grip on her sword and began to attack with more speed and force. Small bursts of air were generated thanks to the clash of both weapons.
Asia was so focused on the fight that she didn't see how Vasco and Mariella approached the place followed by some exorcists. Asia made a vertical blow from the top down, which was stopped by Ruxandra's weapon. After that, both separated a few meters, and then pounced on their enemy again. When both weapons collided, a shrill sound was heard.
Crack!
That sound was the unmistakable sound of a sword breaking.
Asia's eyes widened in shock as her sword broke. She was so engrossed that she didn't see how one of the fragments of her was headed for her face. This fragment ended up giving Asia a slight cut on her left eyebrow. The small cut caused a thin trickle of blood to run down Asia's face. Seeing the blood, Asia used a minor healing spell and closed her wound.
'My sword was broken by the power of that weapon.' Asia thought while looking at Ruxandra's weapon analytically. 'The aura it emits is similar to that of a daedra, but more powerful. That just means it's a Daedric artifact, but it's not one I've seen in the Arcanaeum texts, so it must be a little-known, low-level artifact.'
"Your weapon is one of great quality." Asia said as she extended her left hand and summoned a magic circle. From this circle, the hilt of a sword appeared. "In order to face you, I will have to use my best weapon."
After saying that, Asia took the hilt and pulled. The sword she received as a wedding present from Edzard materialized. The presence of the sword made all the members of the church gasp, as there was a halo of divine power about that weapon that reminded them of a true holy sword.
'This is the first time I will use Anseichim in a battle.' Asia thought as she took a short breath and then shouted. "Balance Breaker!"
The moment she shouted that, Asia's body was enveloped in a light that blinded everyone. When the light was extinguished, Asia was standing wearing her armor. With a quick movement, she placed the sword at her waist. Drawing it, she looked at Ruxandra and spoke. "Let's get this over with."
After saying that, Asia pounced on Ruxandra, who was taken by surprise by Asia's new speed, but she wasn't the only one, because the exorcists, Vasco and Mariella were also amazed.
"B-b-balance b-b-breaker." Mariella stammered as she watched Asia fight Ruxandra.
She was amazed, as Asia was moving at high speed exchanging blows with her enemy. In fact, she couldn't follow the speed of the combat and the only thing that let her know that there were two people fighting was the sound of weapons colliding.
"It seems that young Asia has changed." Vasco said seeing how Ruxandra had managed to deflect Asia's sword blow and had used the form of her weapon to attack with an upward slash. This attack was blocked by Asia, who used her forearm to stop the weapon. Both enemies continued to attack each other relentlessly and at various times, Asia had to use some part of her body to stop an attack, as Ruxandra had managed to evade Asia's guard thanks to the abnormal shape of her weapon.
"It seems so" said Mariella with concern seeing Asia fight against someone who had easily defeated several exorcists.
Asia launched a horizontal slash, which was stopped by Ruxandra, who responded by trying to headbutt Asia. Asia jumped back to avoid the blow.
"Looks like you've improved. But you are an idiot if you think that a new sword will protect you, since it will also be destroyed by my weapon." Ruxandra said mockingly.
"I do not believe it. This sword is not like others. To this sword I would entrust not only my life, but also that of my family." Asia said as she took the sword with both hands. Tightening her grip, she slashed horizontally without moving from her spot.
Ruxandra looked at Asia in confusion, however, she had to jump to the side as a crescent shaped blast of energy headed towards her at high speed.
"What the fuck was that?!" Ruxandra shouted when she saw how the crescent followed her path and ended up cutting down a house as if nothing had happened.
'I need a faster attack or one that she can't dodge that easily. Also, I don't think I'll last much longer on my balance breaker.' Asia thought. She thought this, because even though Ruxandra's weapon hadn't managed to break through her balance breaker, she had managed to make the time limit that Asia had to maintain it decrease with each blow. 'I got very confident thinking that the defense power of my balance breaker could stop the enchantment possessed by that weapon.'
Seeing that she no longer had a choice, she tightened her grip on her sword and swung into position to make use of her new technique. She stood with her feet apart and her knees slightly bent as she held the sword in both hands on the right side of her body with the point pointing towards the ground.
Asia closed her eyes and started a chant at Ehlnofex.
"The light of the stars is the light of creation."
At the moment of saying those words, the blue gem on Asia's sword, which was a very rare and hard-to-work Aetherius fragment called Aetherium, began to expel motes of multi-colored light.
"This light turns into fire."
The specks of light from the sword turned into flames of fire that began to engulf Asia and engulf the sword, creating a small cyclone that swirled throughout the blade.
"Fire is life. And life is magic."
The fire started to increase in intensity, making Asia glow like a torch in a cave.
"All magic and life began with time. And time is a dragon."
"Damn, what are you planning?!" Ruxandra shouted in fear as she saw how the fire that covered Asia turned golden.
"I plan to end this." Asia said as she prepared to use her attack. Opening her eyes, which turned red, she cried out.
"Akachim!"
Asia rushed at Ruxandra at full speed as her body covered in golden flames left behind a comet-like trail.
Ruxandra watched in awe and fear as the fire that covered Asia began to change shape. He stopped looking like a comet approaching her to become a dragon made of golden flames.
'Asia, the attack you used is very powerful and could be almost unstoppable.' Edzard's voice echoed in Asia's mind as she approached Ruxandra. 'But I'll give you some advice. Attack from the bottom up.'
Ruxandra saw that Asia was attacking in a linear manner, so she decided to jump to avoid the attack. However, she watched in horror as the golden flame dragon also soared towards her. So in a panic, she used her weapon to defend herself.
Asia saw Ruxandra and made a vertical cut from the bottom up. The two weapons collided generating a large shock wave. Ruxandra's weapon valiantly tried to withstand the impact of Asia's attack; however, the Daedric artifact was no match for a weapon forged from Aetherius's Fragments and infused with the raw magical power of the Immortal Plane, and it took only three seconds for the Daedric Blade to finally snap in half. Asia's sword pierced through Ruxandra's armor as if it wasn't there, creating a huge explosion of golden flames.
Mariella watched in amazement as the dragon that enveloped Asia turned into an explosion that had the shape of a huge golden cross over thirty meters high.
"A-amazing." Mariella said in amazement.
Vasco and the exorcists were just as amazed as she was, since it was the first time they had seen something like this. Since not even true holy swords had that same level of power.
The cross lasted a few more seconds before finally dissipating into thousands of golden flecks in the air. When the specks disappeared completely, they saw two bodies fall to the ground.
Asia landed on her feet while Ruxandra fell down abruptly. Seeing her enemy on the ground, Asia walked over to her. When she was at her side, she saw that Ruxandra was in the last moments of her life. The armor that protected Ruxandra was completely shattered, revealing a large gash that ran from her hip to her shoulder.
"N-no y-you should be so calm, brat." Ruxandra said as she spat out some blood, while a teasing smile appeared on her face. "You may have defeated me, but you won't be able to beat all the daedras in the town. Also, my partner is more powerful than me. When I don't return to base, he will know that I have lost and will come."
"The Banekin that were attacking the town are all dead."
Ruxandra's eyes widened upon hearing what Asia said, but before she could say anything else, Asia spoke again.
"And if your partner is somewhere to the west, then he's just as alive as you are." Asia said as she looked at her enemy. "My husband headed towards that place. And believe me, he is ridiculously more powerful than me."
At that moment, cries of astonishment were heard from the exorcists. So Asia looked towards the exorcists present and watched as a golden portal opened. Several people and exorcists came out of this portal. Seeing that there were some injured exorcists, Asia rushed to help them.
As Asia headed towards the church, Edzard ran through the burning town while trying not to be affected enough by the scene. For him, this type of scene was not something new, since he had already seen this type of scene many times during the civil war. During the second great war he had demanded that the towns not be attacked, since he did not consider it honorable or fair to attack the population that were not soldiers. Of course, these measures made him popular with the people and somewhat unpopular with some soldiers, but in the end, what mattered to him was avoiding unnecessary deaths.
After running for a few moments, he was finally able to see the artifact that radiated the great amount of magic he had felt a few moments ago.
'Don't fuck with me.' Edzard thought in amazement when he saw the damn structure that sprouted from the ground. And how could he not be surprised if the structure was a stone construction that was born from the ground and had the shape of an "O" in the Daedric alphabet. Of course, someone who had read so many books on the Arcanaeum knew what that construct was. 'What's a fucking portal to Oblivion doing here?'
After thinking that, Edzard watched as some more banekin began to appear through the portal. So, wasting no time, he created a ball of lightning and launched it at the daedras. The deadras were unable to prevent the attack, which turned them all to ashes.
Seeing that there were no more enemies, Edzard hurriedly entered the portal.
As he stepped out of the portal, he was greeted by the sight of a wasteland with no plant life nearby. Looking at his surroundings, his nose caught a scent already familiar to him. Realizing that, he quickly started running towards the source of the smell. Arriving at the source of origin, he saw a large number of people trapped in a canyon being harassed by about fifteen Banekin. So without thinking, he grabbed his greatsword and jumped into the fray.
Lint dodged the sword of one of the demons, then extended her pistol and dispelled a bullet of light in the face of her enemy. The demon shrieked in pain until it finally disappeared in a purple whirlwind.
'This never seems to end.' Lint thought with concern, as she had been fighting in this place for a long time. And it is that she and several exorcists were able to contain some demons thanks to their guns. This was because the demons attacked en masse, which made them easy prey for light weapons. Unfortunately, they decided to follow you when they saw that the villagers were kidnapped, which made them end up arriving at this place.
'This place is strange. The air is strange and feels heavy. Also, we move very slowly. And to make matters worse, those demons are very strong.'
"Ugh!"
Lint turned her head and saw how one of her companions fell thanks to a wound he had received in his abdomen. Aiming her pistol, she fired a bullet at the demon's head, who easily dodged it. After that, the demon turned his eyes and looked at her. After doing so, he smiled grimly and launched himself at her. His speed managed to take her by surprise, as it exceeded the speed with which these beings had been moving before.
'I won't be able to defend myself in time.' Lint thought as she watched the demon approach her. However, before he managed to hurt her, he was hit by a shadow, which decapitated him in a quick movement.
The shadow dropped to a crouch in front of her.
"Know. I didn't expect to have to save your ass again."
Lint's eyes widened in surprise at Edzard's voice.
Edzard turned his face and put on a smile when he saw Lint. Raising his hand, he greeted the exorcist.
"It's been a while, Lint."
A smile appeared on Lint's face as she spoke. "Yes. It's been a while, Edzard."
Edzard nodded and turned serious as his gaze settled on the assembled Banekin.
'Fortunately, there are only a few around here. But that doesn't matter, since, being so close together, I can kill them with a single spell.' Thought Edzard seeing the number of Banekins gathered.
Edzard plunged his sword into the ground and bringing both hands together gathered a huge amount of magic. The amount of magic gathered was not lost on the Banekin, who quickly charged at Edzard to stop any spell he planned to use.
Edzard smiled when he saw that the Banekin had taken the bait. While he could kill them quickly with a single spell, he needed them closer together to do so. By goading them into believing that he would use a master level spell, he managed to get them to come together and attack him as a single wall close together. So, without a second thought, Edzard reached out and cast one of his favorite spells when it comes to fighting huddled enemies. Lightning bolts erupted from Edzard's hands and struck a Banekin, but they didn't just do that, as they quickly began moving at high speeds through the entire tide of Daedra out there.
Lint and the exorcists watched in amazement as their enemies were systematically exterminated by the lightning bolts that erupted from Edzard's hands. A few seconds later, all the daedras had been turned to ash.
"Ahh. That was exhausting." Edzard said as he stopped using his spell. This was said because he had used a great deal of magic.
Lint put aside her astonishment and walked over to Edzard. When she was behind him, she touched his shoulder.
"Hey. What's up Lint?"
"H-how did you manage to kill them so quickly?"
"I used a spell called chain lightning. Which is very useful to attack a group of enemies if they are huddled together." Edzard responded as if it were the most normal thing in the world; however, he then decided to ask Lint a question that he had been having for a while. "Lint. What are you all doing here?"
Hearing the question, Lint began to tell Edzard what was going on.
"I see. So they chased those Banekin through the portal and ended up on this pocket realm."
"Banekin? pocket realm?" Lint asked confused, because she didn't know what those words meant.
"Certain. I just remembered that you guys don't know anything about them." Edzard said as he slammed his right fist into his left palm. Then he put his hand to his head and decided to explain to them. "Those beings that attacked you are called Banekin. They are low-ranking beings of a species that is always attacking and stalking my people. However, this is my first time seeing them around here."
"I see. So your people always deal with these guys, I guess that's why you know how to take them out."
"So is. In fact, these guys are low-ranking. In fact, there are beings of a higher rank, such as Daedroths, which are much stronger. And let's not even talk about the dremora, those guys are really hard to kill. But nothing compared to the daedric titans."
"Daedroth? Dremora?" Lint asked puzzled and confused.
"Oh. I'm sorry, excuse me, but sometimes I tend to ramble when I speak." Edzard said as he apologized. "Well, it would be best to change the subject."
Lint nodded.
"Do you know how to get out of here?"
"No. In fact, that is why we have delayed, since we got lost." Lint said as she looked away.
"I see." Edzard said as he put his hand to his chin. Sighing, he took out his shadowkey and reaching out, created a portal to the church.
Lint, the exorcists, and the civilians stared at the portal in amazement.
"This portal will take you to the church." Edzard said as he pointed to the portal.
The exorcists and the civilians looked at the portal suspiciously, but decided to listen to Edzard and slowly began to cross the portal.
"What will you do, Edzard?" Lint asked as she watched the others walk through the portal.
"I'll stay. The portal that is open in the town is generated through a sigil stone that is in a tower." Edzard answered while he looked at the horizon, being able to see in the distance the tower where the stone would be. "If I destroy the stone, the portal will close and the town will no longer be attacked."
"I see. need help?" Lint asked looking at Edzard.
"No. I can handle this alone." Edzard replied.
"I understand." Lint said in a sad voice, as she felt that Edzard underestimated her abilities.
"It's not that I underestimate your abilities. Remember I saw you fight a dragon and you were able to fight a banekin." Edzard said as he placed a hand on Lint's head. "You are strong. But it's better that you retreat, I don't want you to get hurt."
Lint's face flushed at Edzard's words.
"Looks like it's your turn now." Edzard said looking that everyone else had already crossed the portal.
Lint looked at the portal and realized that the only thing missing was for her to go through. With a sigh, she began to walk towards the portal, when she was about to cross it, she turned and with a smile, she shouted.
"See you on the other side!"
Edzard nodded and watched Lint disappear. After waiting a few seconds, he closed the portal.
"Okay. Let's get this over with." Edzard said as he began to run towards the tower.
After running for a few minutes, Edzard saw the tower where the sigil stone was. Slowing down the speed at which he was running, he managed to stop on a hill that was as high as half the height of the tower.
The tower was a structure made of black volcanic stone with a wide base, which became narrower as it approached the top. It was adorned with spikes and hooks made of the same material as the tower. Also, there were some broken chains and banners hanging from the spikes.
"Wow. Looks like someone has a good interior designer." Edzard said mockingly. "Now. Normally one would have to go through several floors and get to the top, but I don't want to take the whole trip. So he better finish it off in one fell swoop."
Grabbing his weapon, Edzard jumped back several meters. Crouching low, he began to run at high speed towards the top of the hill. When he got to the top, he jumped up and shouted.
"WULD! NA!"
The thu'um caused Edzard to rise several meters above the tower. Stabilizing in the sky, Edzard took his greatsword with both hands. As he fell, he opened his mouth, which began to exude smoke. Seeing that the tower was getting closer, Edzard turned his body three hundred and sixty degrees as he shouted
"YOL! ZAHKRII! VEY!"
Edzard's weapon generated a large burst of fire that was directed towards the tower. The unleashed power of the sword slammed into the tower, creating an explosion that raised a large amount of dust.
"It's over." Edzard said as he fell. Reaching out his hand, he used his shadowkey to create a portal and leave.
When the dust from the explosion dissipated, instead of the tower, there was a large ditch more than three hundred meters long by a hundred wide and fifty deeps.
Asia finished treating the last of the wounded when she saw that Mariella approached her. Getting up, she walked over to where her former protector stood.
"Asia." Mariella said as her eyes began to fill with tears. When she tried to say one more word, she felt Asia hug her. Closing her eyes, she hugged back the girl she thought of as her little sister.
Both women were hugging each other for a long time while they let the tears of happiness flow.
"You really have changed a lot. You are no longer that girl who used to cry or get nervous about anything." Mariella said as she took Asia's face. "Now you are able to fight much better than any exorcist I have ever seen."
Asia blushed upon hearing those words and was mentally thankful that Edzard wasn't around as he would be bothering her for months about this.
"Ha ha." Asia laughed amused while she scratched the back of her neck, because she felt a great shame for the words said by Mariella.
"No hahaha, miss. Where were you all this time that we couldn't find you?" Mariella said with her hands on her hips.
"I was in my husband's homeland. Which by chance of fate is also the homeland of my father." Asia replied with a smile.
"Your father?" Vasco asked joining the conversation being followed by Lint.
Asia blinked in confusion as she did not recognize the old man. "Excuse me but. Who are you?"
Vasco smiled kindly as he answered. "My name is Vasco Strada and I am a cardinal. The girl next to me is called Lint and she is an exorcist."
"I see. It is a pleasure to meet you both." Asia said with a smile as she bowed. "About his question. Yes, I managed to learn a few things about my family while I was in that place."
"Edzard's homeland is where these banekin come from, right?" Lint asked.
Asia looked at Lint in amazement, as she did not expect her to know about Daedras.
"How do you know that?"
"Edzard told me when we were in that pocket realm." Lint said as she brought her hand up to her chin.
"Pocket Realm?" Asia asked confused, but then her eyes widened when she understood what was going on. "Were they in a pocket realm?!"
"According to Edzard, yes." Lint replied taking a step back seeing Asia's reaction.
"That is worrying. How did these guys manage to create something like that?" Asia wondered out loud.
"Is it that complicated to create a pocket realm?" Mariella asked.
"Complicated? It is complicated to resurrect a dead person without him being a zombie. Creating a pocket realm is the same as creating a world. It's possible to create one relatively easily if you have an artifact of great power, but if you don't, it's nearly impossible."
Mariella, Vasco and Lint were so surprised that they didn't know what to say. In fact, the first thing they did was look at Ruxandra's body.
"She had that much power?" Vasco asked worried about that, because a human with so much power was something unheard of.
"No. She didn't have the power for that." She answered Asia, then remembered something important. And that was that Lint had called her husband by her name. "Excuse me, Lint-san. How do you know my husband's name?"
"Er... I've known Edzard for several months." Lint replied as she swallowed a bit, as Asia had a very scary aura around her. "More accurately. I met him in Romania when he saved me from a dragon."
Asia stopped looking at Lint and started to remember, then realized that Edzard hadn't told her anything about meeting a dragon. Also, the way Lint said Edzard didn't give her a good feeling. She didn't know why, but she felt like hitting Edzard with the pot she had enchanted long ago.
Lint, Mariella and Vasco felt how the cold ran through their spines when they saw the smile that began to form on Asia's face. Internally they began to pray for Edzard's well-being. When they finished praying, they saw how the sky lit up for a few seconds, appearing a portal above them.
From said portal they saw Edzard fall, who landed crouching on the ground.
Asia was about to scold Edzard until she saw the hilt of his gun. Just looking at the hilt, she concluded that he had used one of his most powerful thu'um.
Asia saw Edzard raise his head and smile. "It's over. The portal is permanently closed."
Asia let out a sigh, as she felt calmer now. Smiling, she walked over to Edzard and kissed him. When they parted, she hit him on the head.
"Ouch. Why did you hit me, Asia?" Edzard said as he rubbed the bruised part.
"That was for not telling me that you had faced a dragon."
Edzard thought for a few seconds, until he finally remembered that he hadn't told Asia about the dragon in Romania. However, when he was about to apologize, his nose caught a scent he had hoped he would never smell again. Looking around, he saw Ruxandra's dead body. Walking, he approached the corpse and knelt down to pick up the fragments of the deceased's weapon. Examining the weapon, his eyes narrowed and he turned to see Asia, Lint, Mariella and Vasco.
"Asia. Did she use this weapon?"
"Yes." Asia replied.
"I see. I guess you lost your Mithril sword, right?"
"Yes. How did you know? Asia asked amazed that Edzard could guess what had happened to her sword.
"This weapon is called a Daedric Crescent Blade." Edzard responded by taking the weapon and putting it in his bag. "It's a low-level Daedric artifact with the power to reduce the durability of objects it hits."
After saying that, Edzard looked at the place where Asia had fought and narrowing his eyes, he sighed as he realized what had happened.
"So you used your -"
Edzard was interrupted as three portals opened in front of him. He felt his blood run cold as he saw four bodies fall from these portals.
Author's note:
To those who have made it this far, Thanks for reading. Because being honest, I don't know how to write much in English and I'm relying on Google translators and the dictionaries that come with office 2019.
And here is the first clash between daedras and humans. Also, we have seen a human with a Daedric artifact, while I said Earth humans can't stand anything created on Nirm, it's very different if they are artifacts created by a Daedric Prince, in such cases there is a 90% chance that you die horribly and 10% chance you live.
Also, regarding Daedric artifacts, I have decided to classify them into two: "mass-produced" and "unique". This is because the lore I've found about the Daedric Crescent Blade says that in the past there were many, so if there were many, that means they were mass-produced for an army, which makes them the opposite of a unique artifact like Mehrunes's blade, since there is known to be only one.
About Asia's battle, she could only break that artifact because mass-produced artifacts are weaker than unique ones and the weapon she possesses is very powerful, due to the Aetherium. This Fragments has Aetherius magic inside it, so it greatly strengthens the power of Asia's attacks, which is made by another Aetherius Fragments, meteoric iron. The sword has some abilities thanks to certain enchantments. Some of these abilities are: releasing energy blasts like the Bloodskaal blade, having reduced weight, absorbing and storing magic in the Aetherium gem, always returning to its owner, and being able to be infused by a destruction spell.
This sword has almost the same abilities as Edzard's, but his has one more ability.
Dasgun: ¿? I do not understand
Dayside: Yes, I know. you don't have to remind me. T.T.
tsun: Thanks for the review. The fact that she is human is the main reason I added her, since my plan is to add a girl for each race, of course I had to ignore some races like the Grim Reaper, among other races.
Well, I apologize for any misspelling. Do not forget to leave a review if you liked the chapter or if there is something that needs to be improved or if you have any questions about the story. With nothing more to say, until the next chapter.
