"I don't know if healing him has separated him from the others." Natalie said after managing to get the bullet out and heal Bo.
"Whether it did or not, ending the time loop should." Xander hoped.
"Time loop?" Bo asked.
"Like father used to talk about." Isabel told him. "Something Sutter does must trigger it."
"According to our references it's because of an injustice and the injustice must be righted to break it." Xander told them.
"There is no injustice happening here." Bo answered, frowning thoughtfully. "Sutter doesn't want me dead because I'm an Indian, no matter how much he insults me because of it, he wants me dead because I've been trying to rally the people to fight back. To overcome their fear. The Sheriff tried to fight back too and when they killed him the people were terrified." He jerked suddenly as he connected with Phoebe, who was sobbing, he could hear her as she tried to explain to the people around her what she saw.
"He killed Bo, they just stood there. They did nothing!"
"I know that reaction." Xander eyed him. "Phoebe and Cordelia both jerk like that when they get a premonition."
"I think it proves I'm still connected to her, because that's not how my gift works, I get dreams with glimpses of the future. She was explaining to the people gathered around her that she saw me get killed and people just stood there and watched, did nothing. Too afraid. I believe you."
"Their fear kept them from acting." Natalie stated. "The loop triggered and if it's not so an injustice can be righted, than maybe it's to give the people a chance to right something they regret, standing by and doing nothing."
"They're good people." Bo explained. "Unlike Sutter and his men, they never had a problem with us being different. That might have changed if they knew about my dreams, fear triggering a reaction there too. But they never had a problem with us living and working in this town. We grew up with many of them, if we can just convince them to stand up to Sutter."
"To overcome their fear." Xander nodded. "I have some experience with that, I've faced down personal nightmares come to life myself and worked not to let other fears rule me. Metaphorically, Sutter is feeding on their fear, we need to starve him."
"I need to confront him, in front of them." Bo decided.
"That's what you decided to do originally and it led to your death and the time loop." Xander mentioned. "But you're also the one the people know, an outsider coming into your town and standing up to Sutter doesn't have the same impact, we know, we stood up to him earlier and we were told it probably just made things worse. But that doesn't mean we can't support you while you confront him. And if there's one thing we're both good at, it's talking." He glanced at Natalie.
"It's literally part of my job." She said ruefully. "And while I don't like the idea of him running a gauntlet, I also agree it's what's needed to help end this. Watching him die originally created the regret that triggered the time loop. We have to let the people know they'll regret not acting."
"I'm pretty sure we were followed out here, whoever it was broke off before we got here." Xander informed the others. "Whether it's one of Sutter's men or a scared townsperson, Sutter knows you're coming."
"He'd know anyway. He knows only dying will stop me from fighting."
"It's too bad that once we fix this you'll form a new time line and we'll probably never see each other again." Xander grinned. "Because I think we could have been friends, I don't back down either."
"Than perhaps in another life we'll have the chance to be friends." Bo held out his hand and Xander shook it
"Time to go." Xander said. "You have a horse of your own to ride? If not, Isabel and Natalie will have to double up."
"Yes, out back."
Returning to town didn't take long and Bo fearlessly tied his horse to a hitching post and turned to confront Sutter and his muscle. He hadn't mentioned to his sister and the two new comers that his connection with the girl had also shown him that this confrontation was going to cost him more blood, but he also knew this was important and whether it was his blood, his life or both he had to lose, he'd fight for these people. He met Sutter's empty eyes and didn't flinch from the evil he saw there. Sutter wasn't a demon, he was a human monster, by choice.
And Bo was a man who refused to give up on his friends, by choice.
