Prologue part 2: …and into the Fire

Spartan B-312
Callsign Noble 6

Six stood amongst the ruins of the fallback point, with hundreds of Elites, Grunts, and Jackals surrounding him, dead. Worn out from hours of fighting, wounded in too many places to count, his helmet broken and tossed aside, this is where he decided to make his final stand.

At least, that was the plan…

After a team of zealots managed to get him on the ground and get a good stab of a energy gauntlet, he was left for dead. Well the thing that sucks for him, is that the wound wasn't actually lethal, just winded him enough to make it look like a lethal hit.

He lied there for what seemed like hours but in reality was just a couple minutes, waiting for a death that wouldn't come. Seeing the Phantom dropship take off in the distance and through the cloud cover, he slowly rolled over onto his side before beginning to stand up, sore all over, and sure he had multiple broken bones.

So basically just another day at the office for a Spartan 3.

As he took stock of his situation, he scanned his surroundings, the hot and sharp wind blowing across his uncovered face. Amongst the bodies lying all around, multiple Army, Civilian, and even Spartan bodies could be seen. Knowing he needed a new helmet if he was going to make any long term plans, considering the planet was literally getting cooked by plasma, he began to walk around, checking out multiple bodies, collecting whatever armor and weapons he could scrounge that could still be used.

After spending the latter half of a hour scavenging the dead, he barely had any ammo for his assault rifle, only 2 mags, and a single mag for his pistol. He took whatever armor pieces and medical supplies he could, and began replacing what armor he could that was too damaged, while downing some painkillers before putting on his new helmet, a EOD variant that was the least damaged.

After waiting a couple minutes for the painkillers to kick in, he started to think about how to go from here. Where could he even go? There wasn't any ships left on Reach, as far as he new of, barring any secret ONI Prowlers that were in hidden bunkers that, of course, he didnt know where to find.

Maybe steal a covenant ship and fly out? No, would break the Cole Protocol, plus would just get him shot down and killed by ODP's. Find a comms relay and send out a message asking for a ride out? Ehh, wasn't the worst plan, besides just waltzing up to a covenant ship and stealing it. And it was honestly the only one he could see even remotely working.

Although small, and really just a shot in the dark, it was really his only option for getting off of reach. Well besides, maybe hiding deep in a cave, but that wouldn't work for long before he ran out of ether breathable air or food.
Deciding on his course of action, he got up and begin his long walk back to Azod, hoping that the communications tower there was still working, or even strong enough to get a message out….

The walk back took a couple hours, but he could finally see Azod in the distance. Making his way up the stairs to the main facility, he felt his training kick back in, and quickly rushed up the stairs and lined up against the wall adjacent of the door. Pointing his rifle at the door with his right hand, his left pressed a button on the panel for the door, opening it with a hiss and a shutter.

Stepping inside, his rifle snapping sharply left to right, clearing the room. Lowering his rifle slightly, he can see a couple bodies lying around, most civilian, with one or 2 in what looked like security uniforms. Guards, poor fucks probably only armed with pistols and batons.

Looking around, the Facility was quite….normal looking, clutter and bodies aside. Walking over to the front desk's terminal, he pulled up a map of the facility, looking for a way to the comm's room. Figuring out his way, he walked back around the desk and towards the open door, and down the halfway.

Walking down the empty hallways, lights flickered all around, his rifle aimed forward, taking in his surroundings. Wrecked rooms pass by him, each room telling a different story. One had cabinets and furniture put up against the door in a vain attempt to keep out the covenant. Scorch marks pain the room in its entirety, suggesting an Elite simply threw a grenade inside and moved on.

In another, a woman was slouched over her desk, blood pooled below her head, a pistol hung from her left aimlessly and a picture of 2 children held tightly in her right. Coming up to a turn, he got to see a surprising scene appear. All along the walls, blood and plasma could be seen. Multiple bodies lying around a singular Elite Zealots body, with multiple broken pieces of furniture scattered around. Did…did these fuckers really managed to kill an Elite with a steal chair?

Electing to ignore the bizarre scene, he pushed further into the facility, finally coming to the door for the comms room,

Having to brute force the damaged door open, he thankfully can see the center console is untouched. Walking over to the console, Six begins putting in the commands to send a signal over the UNSC Broadband, and links the terminal to his helmet.

"Mayday, Mayday, Mayday, this is Sierra 312 to all forces on this net. Attached file includes location for emergency pick up. If there is anyone still left on this rock, please respond."

Setting the message to repeat every 5 minutes, Six sits down with his back to the console, and tries to relax, hoping at least someone will answer.

…Hours go by, and Six begins to lose hope. He thinks back to his former team, wondering if Jun survived or not. As far as he new, he was the only member whose survival was plausible, excluding himself of course. Seeming like his plan wont work, he begins to get up and walk away when his Comms light turns on, and Six cant help but get excited.

Holy shit, someone actually answered!, Six thought to himself. Quickly turning back around and putting his hands on the console, he presses accept, and a voice comes through clearly.

"This is the UNSC Old TImer, we read you Sierra 312. We're close by but being trailed by a couple Corvettes. Get to the following coordinates for immediate pickup. If you're not there in 10 minutes, we're gonna have to leave you behind. Over and out"

…..Welp, time to fucking book it, cuz if he heard that message, EVERYONE fucking heard it.

Quickly doing a 180, Six begins to make a B-line out of the facility and towards the coordinates, about a mile away, at the same place Six handed off the Package to Captain Keys. Running through the same areas he fought thru barely a day prior, bobbing and weaving thru every hallway and body in his way.

Coming the final stretch, Six see's a Pelican flying towards the Pickup site. Unfortunately the Covenant also decided to show up too, with 3 Phantoms doing a flyby along the rooftops nearby, dropping of various troops in the process…

….Final stretch, lets do this, six thought to himself, before taking a deep breath and beginning to run as fast as he could go.

(Song played for this section-Sewers Escape-MGS3 Soundtrack)

Plasma and Needler rounds kicked up dirt and metal around him, as his heart pounding as he ran in full sprint. Taking a leap down a small set of stairs, he just barely dodges getting headshotted like Kat did by a couple inches. Landing with a loud thud, he begins his sprint again.

More shots just barely miss him, before a pair of Elites come into view as he turns yet another corner, energy swords drawn. They both lunge at him, and Six simply slides between them, completely bypassing their feeble attempt at slowing down the spartan.

Six looks up at the compass bar on his hud, Only a 100 more meters and im home free, Six thinks to himself. The toll his already present injuries are finally starting to affect him, and he can feel himself getting more and more tired by the second.

Shaking his head as he runs, he forces his body to move forward. More and more shots kick up around, before finally a shot managed to connect, hitting him in his left shoulder. Stumbling slightly, he pushes on, 50m, 40m, 30m, he can see the bay door open and 2 marines laying down suppressing fire.

With one last burst of energy, Six throws himself into the pelican. "He's on, lets get the hell out of here!" Six hears one of the marines yell to the pilot, before he feels the Pelican lurch beneath him before rapidly lifting off.

(song end)

Exhausted, Six rolls onto his back, completely out of energy to get up and sit in a seat proper.
"Cutting it close there, bud." Six hears one of the marines say to him, kneeling down next to his helmet.

The only response the Marine gets back is a weak "...fuck….off…." in return, and he grins, before gently bonking Six on the head before putting a finger to his helmets comms device.

"Spartan on board, returning to ship" he says over the comms.

"Roger, perfect timing too, those damn corvettes are about to catch up to us. Once you're back, we are making for the rendezvous point."

"Wilco Captain" is the last thing Six hears before falling unconscious due to sheer exhaustion….

So to answer some questions from some of the reviews
1-UNSC are NOT gonna be like generic Isekai protagonist # 343, they do have their limits. Yes UNSC firearms are going to be better against grimm and huntsmen due to them not being Dust based, but not just one shotting everything in sight. Tech wise they are of course going to be better than Remnant, but Remnants robotics capabilities are actually more advanced than the UNSC, simply because the UNSC didnt try making a droid army.

2-The UNSC isnt going to just take over remnant, for one. They dont have the manpower and really there wouldn't be a point in doing so. In total only about 10,000 people escape to remnant in this little flotilla and its like 60% civilians. Hell, its not really the UNSC that ends up on remnant, just a collection of whatever ships that managed to escape Reach.

3-no im not using Ice queendom for this, considering i haven't even seen it. im having the story start 3 years prior to the show simply because it gives me time to lay down the groundwork for Terran humans to establish a presence on Remnant. it'll allow me to go into more of the background elements that the RWBY show didnt really get into, like politics, economy, and military. Atlas having the only military on remnant is a dumb idea, no-one kingdom was going to entirely rely on huntsmen alone to guard their borders. Im planning on setting it so that each kingdom has different militaries set up depending on location and culture.

4-the story is mainly going to have its own lore around remnant, but it will make references to event that happen prior to arrival on remnant, like the Cole offensive, battle of Harvest, ect. I do plan on making dedicated sub chapters later on that go into Remnants history and even some characters reacting to Terran history as well, like WW2 and the Human -Covenant war.

5-if there is grammar issues or sections that could have been written betters, please say so in chapter reviews. it'll help me in the long run. this is my first story that isnt just a oneshot short story on HYF.

until next time folks...
